I had the privilege of seeing him last night in Benvenuto Cellini. Unrecognisable, unkempt hair, bearded, sexy, and he sang and acted like a dream. He sings so naturally, a riposte to those who say operatic voices are affected. I've just discovered him and want to see him in everything he does. Watch his duet with Elizabeth Connell in the Verdi Otello. She is a decade or two older but acts a young woman with such artistry and can still sing ! Glorious.

I got to see him in that also. Became an instant fan. But then there was very little online to find - but now! A concert a day if I want. I just saw him in London at Cadogen Hall, super as ever. I thought in the first aria that nothing was happening, until I noticed tears running down my face! For me, this is one of the great, great voices. (And can act like mad -- always singing out of the character and the drama, not about notes.)

Spyres seems to be an exception to the rule that operatic voices are affected, cause most of them are.

Another thing I appreciate about him is his precision with language. German, French, Italian, English - each one distinct and distinctive. Such gifts!

Is that LEAH PARTRIDGE as Cunegonde ?

It must be so. Henceforth, Candide should be sung by a tenor not only well-versed in bel canto but also has the steely ring suited for Enée. Any questions?
