Watched several videos on shooting with the pocket 3, and ND filters, today and this is the only one where I've actually learned something! Thank you
So helpful, thank you. Just subscribed… oh and loved Killarney national Park! You are the first person who has taken it anywhere near water 😂
Awesome! Thank you!
What impressed me most about this vid was your edit ! On point dude !! 💪💪💪
Thanks bud
Awesome video. I just purchased the pocket three, and I’m doing research on the ND filters I would love a follow up video on setting up the camera with them on!
This is like the 5th video of yours I’ve watched.
You’ve taught me tons. Wow! Thank you very much for your time and efforts.
Awesome! Thank you!
You always have the most practical and well explained videos. Thanks Vic! With this one, you nailed it the way you changed the scenes up during the dialog. I've been trying to achieve this for a long time and have lately been using note cards so it's planned but not totally scripted which is helping. P.S. The ND filters should be a must have for everyone IMHO, at least the 3-pack.
Awesome stuff Tim. Great to hear. Well done you 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Such a great video!
Thanks, Vic!!
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I picked up an Osmo pocket 3 yesterday and am excited to get into it.
Cheers Paul. First impressions of the Osmo Pocket 3?
@@VicBarry so far so very had limited opportunity to mess about but the size and feel are extraordinary. It really feels like a different kind of photo / video experience. Setting aside tomorrow to get to grips with the functionality
What are the best quality for pocket 3, cpl and nd filters. Dji, freewell or polarpro?
Your footage looks great. I'm wondering if shooting at 30fps with SS of 1/60 will be even better. For me on most movies I can't stand the judder that is produced on the 24fps (although I didn't really notice it in your video). I think in fast moving pans will help to avoid that going to 30fps. What do you think?
what kind of ND filters should i use for indoors . Like in a gym?
Brilliant as always 👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
im watching in 1080 and the quality is outstanding..4k god is on another lvl
really enjoying the channel Vic - which two filters do you think you'll be using the most 8,16,32?
On this side of the pond at this time of year? Probably the 8 and 16 mainly.
one more question, how do the ND Fillters work when shooting in Auto? Is that just a no no, because you cannot double the frame rate?@@VicBarry
They look good, typically what stop do you use the most for a sunny day for example?
Hey 👋 16 or 32 for the most part but there’s no scene the same 😀
@@VicBarry 😎 👍🏼
Have a question, I know the freewell 14 pk comes with a snow mist filter, but no black mist filter. Do you know if either the DJI black mist will stack with the freewell ND filters, or if any of the aftermarket black mist like the Skyreat Black Mist Filter will stack and stick to the Freewell ND filters? Thank you in advance for any insight you might have.
Hey. I’ve no idea to be honest. I’d hazard a guess they might stack given their size but can’t say for sure
@VicBarry thank you very much for responding.
I had seen a video where someone used the Skyreat black mist filter with a Startrc ND filter and they repelled each other. I guess hopefully they ones I ordered get here at the same time so can try. Lol
Well done!
Thanks Steve
can you share your export settings?
how do you expose correctly with a nd filter? There is no zebras or histogram whatsover.. It should be difficult to expose with that small screen alone
Love your video and humor! “Old as F..” 😂😂😂 Thank you from Colorado, US
Glad you enjoyed!
amazing video I just found your channel
Thanks Adam. Glad you enjoyed it. Plenty of Osmo pocket stuff and more besides in these parts 🔥🙏
Farewell sent these to all influencers I got some and they wanted us to say to yall viewers you need them when you don’t, save your money
Which ND strength would you recommend first getting? I have an 8/16/64 Do you use the higher ones?
It needs to be insanely bright for 64. Generally 16 or 32
Thanks for that tips! What Editor do you use for color grading 8:20 ?
Thanks. Premiere Pro
@@VicBarry Adobe Prime Pro? Thanks!
I have a love/hate relationship with ND filters. I had a problem with autofocus with a filter. Is that a rare issue?
Haven’t really experienced that over the years to be honest. Granted it could be an imperfection on the glass or a glare or something that’s causing problems
Wats ur opinion on buying variable ND filters for pocket 3. Don u think thats more value for money
If you need them for what you shoot and know how to use them to get the best results then definitely worth considering. Granted tiny variable NDs will be fiddly to use.
Is it gud to shoot short films ??
The Pocket 3 is so good I’m jealous of it…and I have one lol
I'm with you voix this will definitely save time scrolling through dross. Deffo gonna have to get myself 1 of these pocket 3 units 👍🏻
I want to get this set but I don’t want pay customs getting it shipped to Ireland from America.
Is there a Mimo app for the Mac?
Hey 👋 It’s just on mobile
ND Filters will ALSO BE USEFUL for taking EPIC Timelapses - ruclips.net/video/MRPKIY1zYu8/видео.html
Hmm tried nd filters before, bit of a faff, you put them on, great, 10 seconds later a cloud goes over and it's too dark, better let the camera do it on auto.
Ha. Fair enough but as said in the video they’re not for everybody. The camera can’t really do it on auto for the look that’s being described. But look, not for everybody 👍
Subscribed I guess
those ND filters are adding a gray tone to the video, that I don't like, the new Canon V10 camera has a build-in automatic ND filter that is invisible.
A grey tone? Where in the video is the grey tone?
@@VicBarry It's common for ND filters to add a grey tone to footage or pictures. This happens with my camera as well, but I don't mind because I perform color correction on each picture to fix it.
In your video at 3:42, you apply the ND filter and subsequently, the colors appear darker and less vibrant. I stopped using ND filters on videos years ago, except for specific scenes with close moving subjects or time-lapses, where I really need a blur effect. However, I don't use it on all footage to maintain a 1/50 shutter speed because I prefer the best look for my footage without post-production color correction.
Professional cameras have built-in ND filters that are less noticeable. For instance, Canon's new vlogging camera, the V10, has an internal ND that isn't visible, perhaps because the camera automatically compensates by auto color grading when the filter is on. The DJI Osmo doesn't recognize when the ND filter is on and uses the same settings. It might be better to use it with a log profile and then perform color grading, which I rarely do due to time constraints.
1st 30 seconds looks like hdr from iphone blow out brightness and overexposed
Not really a much for casual users point ang shoot.
Why are we trying to emulate movie like motion blur? To me, it sounds like an artifact of technical limitations
Because that’s what’s perceived as pleasant to human eyes
Hey Jay, technically it’s may be a technical limitation. But it’s the way cameras and exposure have worked for a long long long time.
It’s a real head scratcher. But when you see the same video without motion blur and with motion blur side by side, it’s immediately noticeable.
Video recordings different from what we see in real life. In real life, fast-moving objects are a blur. It coincides that traditional filmmaking preserves that blur, as an artifact of filmmaking itself and the limitations you allude to . Film or Video is always a series of still images that our eyes and brain connect seamlessly. However, if the moving objects grabbed within each still picture are themselves crystal clear, we as viewers sense something is off, unnatural, not real. That is, of course, because those moving objects seen by our own eyes never look crystal clear.
Director Steven Spielberg deliberately turned this rule on its head in the opening sequences of Saving Private Ryan. Absolutely zero motion blur makes it hyper-immersive, nightmarish.
People don’t look for motion blur 😂😂
motion blur is over rated
Yep
I agree
Try watching the footage on a 65" TV and you'll realise it's not. Every single movie known to man will have used filters to create motion blur. You may not notice it most of the time as it's naturally what your eyes see, hence the essential need of ND filters. You ask Star Wars to make their next film without motion blur. You'll soon regret that wish.
i have watched lots of dji pocket 3 footage shot with ND filter on youtube and it looks like the overall video quality somewat lost ... even small moments are causing low quality like videos.
You are incorrect.
