    Thank you for stating that it is what suits you , because most of us get carried away with all of those designers spaces and lose our thoughts on what we have and what we want to sew just looking at the new created clean space. thanks for making it real.

      Oh yes, years ago I fell into that trap and then I realized that it does not suit me, after all - it is a work space... do I like it to be pleasant? Yes, but I would rather have it functional and actually work for me :) I am glad that it resonated with you!

    I just recently did this. It feels so much better to walk in and be able to just pull out the box of fabrics that I need rather than waste so much time wading through piles of mess.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад +2

      Exactly :) I usually do a few mini-organization sessions through out the year, as in the process fabrics sometimes " travel" from one tub to another, but having them designated in a specific tub/place makes it way easier and faster to find what you need and get to sewing :)

      Roberta, hello there! I am glad this gave you a different perspective :) At times I have wondered if how I organize my supplies is "wrong", but then I arrived at the conclusion that it has to work for me, because I am the one sewing and creating in this space.

    I, too, am a visual person! Out of sight, out of mind, is me all over. My computer monitor at work is a sea of post it note reminders all over the sides.😂 It’s dustier, but if it’s not literally right in front of my face, I’ll never find it!

    I need a pegboard!! I use my vintage 90s Caboodle make-up box as my sewing box. I'm so glad I kept it all these years lol

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      This peg board is one of those pressed wood/cardboard ones from Home Depot, I had it for years now and first it was white and then I painted it green :) super easy and doesn't break the bank.

    I store my patterns in manilla envelopes also, and print out the pattern picture to tape on the front. I have been using an amazon box that was the right width, but am outgrowing it! Haha
    So I was literally just telling my husband earlier this week that I need to find a filing cabinet to store them in...then I randomly came across your video and saw your tote!! I love it! ❤

    Your pegboard inspired me to redo my sewing area- what a great idea! I have all my tools in fishing tackle boxes but I have to drag them out and search for what I need all the time, which is crazy making. Thank you!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity

      You will love this even more - this peg board is from home depot, it is not metal, just that pressed wood/cardboard stuff and I had it for years... first It was white, but then a few years back I painted it green. So it is not pricey and totally doable :) I am glad it gave you some ideas to make your sewing flow easier :)

    I'm Australian and live rurally so I order most things online and I have never had fabric come with ID labels like that, they'd be so handy! I too am a clear container gal, but if they are stacked and I need the 2nd from the bottom I tend to upend them all or at least shift them all but never put them back. It's the best solution for me that I have found to date. I did have my fabrics hanging once too and I loved that! It was so easy to see and grab and replace but it also meant dust and fading so I had to stop using it (I didn't have a wardrobe and was using something akin to your clothing rack). Patterns are hard to sort. I have a huge collection inc vintage and I like to order them by size which works great for those vintage ones which were single sized, but how do you sort them for multi-size? Ack! I sew mostly for children so it is the kids patterns I rifle through the most and say my niece is wearing a size 6, it is easy to look through the size 6's or 7's to find something to make her. Unless it is multisized lol

  • @katwitanruna
    @katwitanruna 4 месяца назад

    I use opaque containers for patterns and fabric to prevent fading. Other than that, see through for the win!

    I have found if I fold my fabric like the "Marie Kondo" method I can get more fabric
    In tub and when a open the tub i can see every fabric I have in the tub without digging threw it which saves me time! Love your recycle shows! Peggy T.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      Peggy, hello there! I had someone else comment the same - and I have tried folding it like that - it just does not work for me for various reasons. Some of my tubs right now are too stuffed and my ultimate goal is to get my fabric stash down and have ample room in every tub for fabric to move freely without being packed. :)

    Thank you so much. I am a visual person. I like to put things in clear containers. That way I know what I have. If I don't see it, I forget I have it and then I wind up with multiples. 🙃
    I'm in the process of moving my sewing and craft supplies to a bigger room in my house. I have been so overwhelmed. Watching your videos have given me some great ideas to organize it in a way that will work best for me. 😊 Thank you ❤😊

    Easy labels - Dollar Tree makes some that clip onto the top of the bin. You might give those a try.

    Have you considered using your embroidery machine to make labels? You could do on your fabric block or make patches

    With the bright green fabric, if you dye it with a half portion of navy, then the colour will come out like teal, which is a lovely flattering colour I find. Pop in the green and white patterned one and you’ll have co-ordinating fabrics. That’s only a suggestion, but you probably have a better idea. Can’t wait to see the results of your dyeing projects. I used to dye loads of stuff! ❤

    See through container with labels is what works best for me. I love the idea of pretty tins and boxes but those never work out for me. Because the container is transparent I can see right away what is in them ( for example jewelry making ) and read the label to see what is inside if I have more than one bin.

    Great ideas. My stash and scraps get in such a muddle. I love organisation as it is calming. How do you store all your different interfacings, iron on fleeces, bosal stiffener. Mine is constantly in such a state. I’d love some ideas. 👍👍

    Hola❤ apenas estoy en el minuto cuatro...y ya te sugeriría otra forma de guardar esas telas en esas cajas grandes..., plegadas pero en vertical, altura del recipiente. De forma q desde arriba, al quitar la tapa, visualizes absolutamente todas y cada una de las piezas. En el caso de retales no grandes, pues haz dos filas o hileras. Pero va genial, estilo Marie Kondo. Ver todo. Pq como tú has dejado las telas infantiles, tienes que tocar todo para buscar, apartar, rechazar... De la forma vertical, sólo tocas y coges lo que buscabas.

      Hello there, I tried that years ago and it just does not work for me. Often times I work with 2-3 fabrics in the same project, so sometimes I pull 5-10 fabrics to see what will work best together, how much fabric I have and then I have to refold everything back... too much energy for refolding and keeping it stacked. I am sure it works for other people, just not in my case :) Thank you!

    I have been wondering if you kept and stored your self drafted patterns. Pattern storage has become an issue for me. Storing them is easy. Finding them when I want them is the tough part. I honestly never thought of using a big envelope and standing them in a basket. Such a simple inexpensive solution! I like hanging my colorful woven fabrics and I have a cupboard for my cotton lycra. All others go into totes. I have switched to using the same size as you have. Because a big tote full of fabric is just too heavy. I just cut out my 3rd Paola chore jacket. My third time using the pattern. I sent you a warm grateful thanks. Best advise ever!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      Irene, hello there! One other reason why I use yellow envelopes is because those are sturdy enough to house not only the patterns but also an occasional muslin, or even two. Sometimes I save the muslin if I have another future project in mind and might need it for design and style lines or whatever else. I used to put them in the binder, inside the sheet protectors, but they always slide out, so the envelopes are way better :)
