    This morning I was sewing a pillow case out of scraps from hoodies, sweatshirts and jogging pants from my kids. I never throw those in the garbage. If they are in good condition I sell them online or bring them to the barter shop and trade them for clothes in bigger sizes to fit my constantly growing kids. But if they have holes or stains I use them to repair other clothes or make patchwork blankets and pillowcases. Don't listen to people who say you can't do this with knits. We love the soft touch of old sweater fabric!
    From old sweaters of my husband and me I make patchwork hoodies for the kids, I just cut around the holes and stains. My kids love their unique style.
    So I was watching this video on my coffee break and I love that you show your subscribers how to use scraps. Let's use all our scraps, be creative, save money and make unique pieces!

    I encounter decision fatigue all the time. Sometimes, I just make a selection, place them together, look at them for a few days or just go for it. A washable glue might help to keep the pieces in place. What you came up with is brilliant❤

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  7 месяцев назад

      Oh, good thinking about the fabric glue - I will have to test it out! Yes, decision fatigue is a real thing - there are projects where I am 10000% sure about the idea, and the vision and just the overall thing and then... there are some where I stare at the fabric and it seems that I have the idea in my mind, but I just can't touch it yet, or it is just one step away from feeling very tangible. Maybe it is just how the creative process goes... it is torture and delight all in one :)

    The heart has the look of stained glass piecing. I love it. Both of your projects turned out beautiful (one of a kind). Do you have any advice on how to remove vinyl from T-shirts? I have many shirts that I would love to give a newer look to. I'm very glad that you did not trash your scrap vinyl. "Waste not, Want not." Wonderful. Thank you.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  7 месяцев назад +1

      Arvetta, hello there! Oh.. great question... I can't really think of how the vinyl can be removed, but I know that with time my RTW t shirts crack and then you can kind of peel it off... I haven't had any of my home-made vinyl t shirts crack (except for foil iron-on on one) so I am not sure if it is different kind or technique... How about trying to put smth on top of the vinyl to cover it up? Or maybe to do a reverse applique by cutting out the area of the vinyl... Or maybe something like I did with the white t shirt that I am wearing in this video?

    • @arvettadelashmit9337
      @arvettadelashmit9337 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity Those are good ideas to give a good try. The fabric in the T-shirts still looks new; however, the vinyl pictures have faded, cracked, and look ugly. Most of these shirts were gifted to me through the years. I have lost some weight and most of them are now too large for me. I have been thinking of trying to turn them into pull over blouses (with lace, buttons, ruffles, and patches). It is all worth a good try. I love hearts also.

    I'm so excited about this! 15:05 Last year, I wore my recently purchased, very good quality coat to the local art studio and managed to get two areas rubbed with paint. Oil paint. I finally came up with a solution that wouldn't compromise the coat's effective protection against rain. I bought some iron on Cricut material that also is light-reflective. I'm still riding my electric bicycle, so this is extra safety. I cut out a few little retro flowers by hand, but I'm going to take an intro to Cricut class this Wednesday. I'm hoping that I can make more flowers in different sizes. I was absolutely inspired by your repair videos and your problem solving to do this. I think this is going to be a very cute result! I think your projects today are also really fun!!! Thank you for helping me not abandon a good-quality coat. Even with the little area that I've completed, I love the coat more and feel so proud that I came up with a good solution. That's all your influence!

      Can you imagine, I had a very similar thing happen to me! Years ago, at an art class, the instructor as squirting the paint out of the big bottle and a large squirt/stream landed on my sleeve. It was acrylic paint and the stain was so huge I could not get it out. I am so glad you found a way to rescue your new coat - it is not me, it is all YOU :) Let us know how your cricut class goes and if you love it:)

      @abaigealduda2756 7 месяцев назад

      @ThoughtfulCreativity The instructor was out sick this week, but I'll keep trying each week. I'm so sorry that you had the same thing happen to you! Yes, I put the pieces together for this solution, but I promise you that 5 years ago, I would never entertain this train of thought. You really have opened up all kinds of thinking, problem-solving and experimentation that genuinely makes me feel better about some of the key little choices. Throw out the coat? Live with the sad paint smears? Or..... think like Alisa and make the coat actually better, more personal, and more effective for keeping me safe? Yes, I do credit you for helping me open my vision to expanded possibilities that bring me real joy. Thank you.

      Yep, it can definitely add up when it comes to crafting! I totally hear you. You know, another thing that I really enjoyed while doing this was.... the absence of machinery involved. Meaning, when I use Cricut (and I do love it, no doubt) I have to have a cricut, and a computer to connect it to, and then my garment laid out and it can be a lot, especially if your headspace is already so crammed. With this approach - it is just me, scissors and colorful bits of vinyl... :) sometimes less is more, right? :)

      @ThoughtfulCreativity  7 месяцев назад

      OoOOOH, YES, a photo transfer is a fun idea! Now my ideas are bubbling again :) with Cricut a lot of projects can be done in a unique way, but ultimately it comes down to if you are going to be doing a lot of card-making, vinyl cutting and things like that. You can do more, like etching and even cutting fabric... many things, but I would say I use it the most for special occasions - like gifts, special apparel, special events, I have it out the most in November, December. I hope it helps :)

      I would try it on a scrap piece and do 3 things. First, stabilizing and adding structure to the fabric underneath, because usually leather is heavier. Then you can either use fabric glue or use fabric glue and then stitch the leather to the fabric. You can also do a reverse applique - I did a project recently, you can see how it is done in my "color block tops" video.
