You’re correct about those devices on the wing slowing the plane down. They’re called spoilers. They create drag which slows the plane. They also decrease lift by disrupting the airflow over the wing and cause the plane to descend. The go fully up at touchdown to help make sure the plane stays on the ground.

Speedbrake is self explanatory. Spoiler - not so much. And you prob don't want to tell passengers that you've deployed something that causes the plane to drop from the sky. This was prob way more that you wanted but hopefully I didn't add to the confusion. And I didn't even talk about flaps - which also slow the plane but thats not their primary purpose.
I flew out of LAX with my sister back in 1968 when I was young. We were heading back home to Austin, Texas. I had been staying in Whittier with my mother for awhile. I love watching flights for some reason. I love the take off and just watching the landscape change out the window. I also love seeing MCO😊 I was just there 4 weeks ago...but i still love to see it anyway. My daughter lives 6 miles from MCO so when your outside her house the planes are super low about to land. It’s pretty loud when you are outside her house...but thankfully you can’t hear them inside😊
Fun fact, when my mom would travel always out of lax, we would have her welcome back dinner at that iconic tower restaurant. And I think it used to spin slowly from what I remember. So cool love seeing that it feels like home!! Enjoy your trip, you have a twinkle in your eyes too! Have sooo much fun🤗😎✌

That’s awesome meeting your flights’s captain on the bus and getting to know them personally as they are taking you to your destination. I have never met my flight captain. I'll try and make this short lol . The standard US aircraft is the Boeing 737 but delta has been recently using Airbus A321 a lot which are a bit more roomy however I am a Boeing guy myself . You were on a Boeing 757 a great aircraft love those and the safety record on them is amazing . You saw spoilers coming up out of the wings this as you said helps the aircraft slow to certain speeds through the decent . The 757 loves to fly so it needs help to slow it itself down lol . Delta is my go to as I have flown several others during the pandemic but I feel delta has a smooth system and as you saw great pilots .

You are correct on the things that pop up from the top of the wings. They deploy at the top of decent so that way the plane doesn't overspeed the wings while descending. They are often called speed brakes or spoilers. As you saw they deployed again upon touchdown. They help fight ground effect once on the ground and they aid in slowing the plane along with the flaps and engine reversers. Side note, if there is ever a emergency onboard upon landing they leave them up during their taxi as kind of secret code to the tower that there is an issue onboard and to dispatch emergency vehicles to meet the plane. And the reason only the one guy said he was the pilot is because these days the "co-pilot" is called the first officer. Great video as always! Much love

Oh the pop century, I have stayed there many times. Especially the building with the bowling pin. When you pause to take a shot of the 50s building, I actually have a still photo at night with that very shot. Cool.

Yeah, that's what no one is talking about. I flew out of MCO in September to BOS and sure enough, UNLESS you get a covid test 3 days prior to flight, it's quarantine city! I tested negative AFTER I got back to Massachusetts so I could avoid the entire 14 days. They will text you every morning at 11 reminding you to self isolate for the full time regardless. Good stuff. I guess we're all supposed to play make believe in here so it stays as "happy" as WDW. I do think Adam is careful, and I do appreciate that he makes these vlogs because I enjoy each and every one of them. I also wish he would stay put in FLA unless he's on a road trip from home. In FLA. :)

Yeah, that's what no one is talking about. I flew out of MCO in September to BOS and sure enough, UNLESS you get a covid test 3 days prior to flight, it's quarantine city! I tested negative AFTER I got back to Massachusetts so I could avoid the entire 14 days. They will text you every morning at 11 reminding you to self isolate for the full time regardless. Good stuff.
I guess we're all supposed to play make believe in here so it stays as "happy" as WDW.
I do think Adam is careful, and I do appreciate that he makes these vlogs because I enjoy each and every one of them. I also wish he would stay put in FLA unless he's on a road trip from home. In FLA. :)

I’m watching this from pop century as I type. I Just finished up a Disney trip, things are great in the park. Food is getting back to normal, staff is great line are alright and moving. Enjoy your time !!!
