  • THE BEST MID HANDICAP GOLF BALL OF 2020... AND ITS CHEAP!!! When choosing your golf ball its important to think about a number of matters... what's the best golf ball for you? whats the best golf ball for me? whats the longest golf ball you can buy? whats the best mid handicap golf ball? should you use Titleist Pro-V1? Taylormade TP5? What about the cost of golf balls? can these cheap golf balls be as good as the expensive golf balls? surely not? surely a budget golf ball can't perform the same as a premium golf ball? in this video myself and Mid Handicap Mark test out the Taylormade soft response golf ball out on the golf course... lets do it... and lets do it now!

I've loved this ball (TM Soft Response) since i found one in the woods.... I went and got a couple dozen. I love the feel, the distance, the forgiveness of it, and especially the price. Consistently shooting 3-4 strokes under my handicap (13). First even par through 9 with this ball as well.

Picked up golf 3 years ago as a way to keep the mind & body occupied in my retirement. I play at least 3 rounds a week, year round as I now live in the the tropics of the Philippines. I'm 62yo, a disabled US Military Veteran and limited in ability to perform proper rotation, weight shifting, etc., so distance isn't ideal, but short game is pretty good. Driver swing speed is a meager 75mph, and a 3 hybrid to reach 150yds. However, what I lack in distance, I more than make up for in accuracy throughout the bag. I currently play to a 12 handicap, mostly due to distance issues on long Par 4's & 5's. I've probably bought and tried most every well known golf that exists, but keep coming back to the Callaway Super Soft. This ball just seems to fit my entire game from tee to green better than anything else I've tried.

These soft response are similar in compression to callaway supersoft. Ideal for swing speeds of 85-95mph not any faster because you compress it too much and get a too high ball flight. Like you James

When Callaway first bought out the truvis design on their chrome soft they were my go to ball...but when they started infusing graphene each ball I tried felt inconsistent.. like I was playing a different ball even though they came out of the same sleeve. I gave others a try and enjoyed most of them but ended up giving chrome soft another shot with the new 2020 line up. What ever they did to fix the problems of prior gen, except the price, it worked. That's not to say I didn't find a good alternative: the Taylormade project a and Titleist velocity are 👍 IMHO.

A coach told me years ago, "Pick a ball. Any ball, it doesn't matter, but always play that ball. There are few things that a player can control in golf. The ball is the easiest to control". Played ProStaff for years and consistency improved. Now I play TP5x. I've tried the Titleist and the Calloway balls, but they just didn't feel as good to me.

  • @jasonrogers6046

I'm a 14 handicap right now. Dad taught me how to golf when I was twelve and somewhat self-taught as an adult. Don't play enough to be good but i got tired of shooting 105 one day 95 the next week when I consistently shot in the mid-'80s in my teens. Went and got a few lessons to help fix my swing. I've been trying different golf balls trying to find the one iI like the best in the budget range. I've used the bright green and red balls, and the green is much easier to find in the rough or fairway. Red for some reason I have a hard time seeing. I played a couple rounds with Callaway Supersoft(definitely enjoy them), TaylorMade tour response, and soft response (Didn't notice much difference between these two on the course, liked them both), Titleist Tour Soft(hated them) and just got a box of Vice Pro Plus I plan on playing this week. Was also thinking about trying Snell MTB black soon. Unless i fall in love with Vice or Snell, for me i would say TM Soft Response will be what i start playing every day based on being $22 a dozen VS $35 for the others.

Ball temp makes a huge difference. What works well in the summer may be completely different with frost on the ground. That's something most testers ignore.
I've also seen quite a few reports on consistency. For instance, last year's Callaway has a lot of reports of being off centre; this year's is much better
90~ish swing speed here. I look for good driver distance, and I like lots of spin on a wedge. But what really sells me is the putter noise/feel.
Last year was a Chromesoft, (matched with a insert face White Hot). This year is the new Chromesoft, the 3 line one, but matched to a metal face old Anser 3.
Second favourite ball in both case - Pro V1x

I have been trying out quite a few different balls the last weeks. I used to play the Titleist Velocity which go around 60-70% of a ProV1/TP5 and never had any complaints. Currently I am playing some Wilson ball, around 12 quid a dozen and can´t really complain. Don't fly as far but a bit more grip around the green and just as solid. Biscally the only ball I really didn't like was the Golf Jet (or Jet Golf) #3. The #4 was ok, about the same price as the Velocity but didn't seem to do any better. Tournaments or events I do play TP5 though...

Good video. Curious about Mark's stand bag. Did he make the legs shorter or buy that way? Would love a bag like that.

Been trying out several balls. I refuse to pay $50 for 12 balls.
$3 a ball is about my limit. Yet to settle on one ball. Trying out these now-
Taylor Made Tour Response, Srizon Tour Soft, OnCore Elixir, Titliest Tour Soft, and Callaway ERC triple track.
May try some two piece non-
Urethane balls too after I test these out.

Got 2 dozen of these earlier this year. Perfectly good ball. Regarding run out/spin most players leave their chips short of the hole and a few yards of extra roll can be an advantage. These balls are cheap enough to play all the time so that you know what to expect

James, I was using TP5 and losing too much and realised not a pro so using soft response and as you said just using that ball only & than you know what the ball is going to do on different shots and play from there.

I’m currently gaming the callaway chrome soft mainly because I got them at a very very good price and it is also a very good ball
I’m happy to play with any brand of golf but for me I do like them to feel soft. Great video from the pair of you

I play Strata tour ultimate, at least until my cache runs out. Just tried the TP5x Pix this weekend. Liked it. Not sure I'll be paying $50 for a dozen, won these at a scramble for Long Drive. I always base my ball choice off irons and around the greens. Off woods doesn't much matter, all feel about the same to me

I'll play any premium golfball depending on a good bargain. I've played Pro V1, TP5, Chrome Soft and Z-Star - I cant feel any significant difference. I play on a tight course with a wide golf game so I will use quite a lot of dozens through a season! :)

I’ve been using the Taylor made soft select. 27 quid for 24 at sports direct. I’ve not been able to find a ball which has better value for money. I think there very good balls for the price. And I also watched your review of them. There half decent ay

I’m using the Kirkland golf balls for now since I’m just beginning and don’t want to spend too much since I’ll lose them. 24$ for 2 dozen. I’ll occasionally find Premium balls left on the course and use those. I hope to one day use a better more premium ball for my regular play.

I decided to try some Volvik balls and they have been performing great..... don't look past Wilson Duo they are inexpensive but perform well. I'll give these a go though and see how they are!

Kirkland 3 pc ball is great at $1 each. Distance (265-275 on drives) and feel around the green are fantastic. Only thing is the coating on the cover marks up or peels off pretty easily. Doesn't affect play, just looks bad.

Still have 3 dozen Project (A) left don't know were I'll go from there. Titleist Tour Soft? Winter is coming so I'll be hitting the strays I've found this summer.

Been sticking to the Callaway Supersofts for a couple of years now. I bought a few dozens of Chrome softs but I feel like they are a lot harder for me, good around the greens though. Hcp is 14

It depends on how you hit your pitches/chips no? If you bump and run into the slope to a raised green, then you don’t need a proV or a TP5 I would think. If you want to carry often and have the ball sit, then you do. I want it. I don’t have the speed to pull back full shots. But I want it around the green.

  • @vroomgc
    @vroomgc 3 года назад

In general slower swing speeds are better off to use a softer (less compression) ball or if its cold out, but the cheaper balls (sometimes also called distance balls) have lesser spin rates so onto the green you wont get that stopping power or be able to shape it much. You have to get a mid to high priced ball to get the spin coming into the green. So it depends on what you care about.

Price, workability, stopping on green and feel off putter. Has to have all 4!
Bridgestone E12 Soft and Titleist NXT Tour S have been my go to. But bought these TM today for my round tomorrow!

24 handicap playing Wilson Ultra yellow at £13 for 15 balls. The only time the colour is a disadvantage is in October when there are too many yellow fallen leaves on my course!
