As one of the printing press operators who have printed the boxes and sleeves for these balls and also Callaway’s premium golf balls, I can assure you that a great deal of the pricing difference comes from the cost of printing the packaging. The premium balls are printed on material that costs around $5.00 per sheet. A single sheet yields 2 box bases and lids plus the sleeves to fill both boxes. Add in the cost of printing and converting and you can see where a great deal of the cost comes from. The balls you reviewed are printed on a much cheaper sheet and the printing isn’t nearly as complex. All the same, Great review!!!

Great Video Rick !! my guess is that for your swing speed these softer balls loose distance but for the golfer the ball was intended for that golfer might even gain distance compared to the tour balls you would play as it is easier for them to compress the ball, I always like the Super Soft in the spring and fall here in Canada but as temps rise, I switch to a premium ball .

Rick I been using for the last ten years the Titleist Velocity, it has been giving me they higher ball flight and distance I've lost with age. But in the last several years I've been finding some Callaway Warbird balls and using them too, and I find they go high and always farther, always a good 15 yards and more off the tee, and one iron farther from the fairway. When I'm hitting the tee ball good I always tee up a Warbird ball, I just wish Callaway made them in the Matte Green cover like the Velocity, My opinion but this is it. Good video content as usual, thanks.

  • @Jordan.Thompson14

Loved the video! I would make just one suggestion on it, when doing this test you should have had the ball you play (prov1) to establish the baseline for the shots, especially on the driver. It could have been just that day that the ball wasn't going as far, and you would have been able to tell if you hit the Prov1 Side by side with it.
Love the content and keep up the great work!

I used to get the Hex Tour Soft that were at Costco and I really liked them. Very soft and decent distance.
However, I did see some ball review videos recently that suggested you leave distance and control around the green out there using "soft" balls and that harder premium balls really will make a difference to my game.
I've bought a load of Titleist Pro V1X's and I don't think I will go back. Now it is winter months I will probably use less premium balls but once we get back to spring it will be back to the Titleists!

Ball speed off the face is a function of the elastic properties of the ball which dictate the rate of decompression off the face. Lower durometer (softer) balls will compress faster and decompress slower than higher durometer ones. Since it is marketed as a “soft” ball it shouldn’t be expected to perform like a higher durometer ProV1 or others in its class. That said most recreational golfers which are the intended market don’t have your ability to compress a premium ball optimally and might get more distance at their swing speeds than with a premium ball.
Something you might also consider doing when testing balls is do the Epson salt path spin test for balance.

For reference I don’t play performance balls (tp5, prov1, etc) because the magnified slice or hook from by bad shots is very noticeable with those. Super soft (or similar from other manufacturers) seems to be the sweet spot for mid to high handicap in my experience.

Rick, great stuff! Future review idea if you want to test Piper golf balls. Looks like a Vice competitor that slightly undercuts Vice on price. They’ve got different balls based on handicap.
Full disclosure, I found them after going to Amazon to pick up some of these Hex Softs…

I thinned a sand wedge this last weekend from a fairway bunker 160 yards up near the green so I feel ya Rick. It was awesome! But I still got a bogey or double bogey lol.

Have a cheap entry level ball that is good is a really important thing for the game. For people to really learn to be consistent and know what clubs do what it is a big help to use the same ball every time and be able to aford to lose them.
I know myself I would always use lake and found balls when I was younger, but as got older and could aford to buying new reasonable mid range balls my consitancey went up considerably.

Hey Rick, you can get these at Costco here in Australia, $60 for 2 dozen so $2.50 a ball which isn’t too bad you pay up to $7 for a premium ball here.

Awesome review and very helpful info Rick....The price of balls have gone to high in my opinion, and this review proved that without a shadow of a doubt for all of us amateur golfers. At least we can purchase with confidence that we will be playing a quality ball for our playing abilities. Thanks again and keep up the great videos.

I found one of these balls on my course and used it. It stopped on a dime which is what I prefer. As far as distance did not see much difference than the Pro V1. Sad thing was a sculled a 9 iron into a large fur tree and lost it. ( didn't hit any patio furniture like you) I looked all over Calkaway's site and could not find them. Thanks for the tip.

£13.99 ($15.75 USD) on a Lightning Deal. Currently sitting at £22 ($23.99 USD). Puts them right in line with the Bridgestone e6, Vice Tour, Titleist TruFeel, and Wilson Staff Elite 50/50s. I think we need to thunderdome these agaisnt each other.
Also... I could have sworn the Hex ball was a bit of a big deal about 5-10 years ago and definitely remember seeing them in most of the big golf retailers in the US.

"These balls are aimed at someone that will loose it before durability becomes an issue!" and then promptly slashes one into the club house. nice!
TBH these balls are for the mid to high handicapper who isn't hitting the ball clean enough to take advantage of a premium distance ball. Instead they are getting a soft feel which helps with their short game and reduced spin that keeps it straighter meaning more hit fairways.
Years ago I bought some Arnold Palmer Control Balls for £10-£12 that were advertised as better feel around the greens.
I'd buy these balls as I prefer a soft ball and my hadicap is 14 (clubs) as sometime I think I could throw it better

I like the Hex Tour from Costco. It’s a 3 pc. ball vs 2 pc. like your Hex Soft. I get plenty of distance and works well around the greens. At $32 for 24 balls it’s a deal!

  • @loikepalenikonu5489

I played a handful of these that I have found on the course from time to time. These are somewhere between the Callaway Supersoft and the Superfast(old superhots that were 3 piece but are now 2 piece). For the average golfer they will fly straighter but if you are low spin player with irons these will roll out on the green. They have a softer core so anyone with above average swing speed is not going to maximize ball speed like Rick showed. Better than warbirds which are rocks.

  • @lukef5370
    @lukef5370 Год назад
