I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

Rick....thanks for reaching out to Callaway and letting them know so they could double the price of these balls before your video dropped. 👍👍 🤣😅😂
@@matthewfischer9983 thats 2 dozen
Hahaha so true.
£22 a dozen now 📈
Inflation hitting hard
he bought them on lightning deal ffs
Ricks the only guy who can do a golf ball review and say “can’t really get a good chew on that” and be taken seriously.
The laughter at the broken window is gold. 😂Great stuff as usual Rick.
Hi Rick, new to your channel. I never took a golf lesson or tried at golf. I am watching your training videos and see positive results. I am happy you are seeing success on your channel. You have a great personality and coaching spirit.
Great review Rick, so good you've pushed the price up to £21 😂😂
Literally came into the comments to say this, £13.99 now becomes £21.99 which is now more than standard Supersoft 🤦♂
Must be a Euro ball - not available for a decent price on Amazon Canada
@@Settle4Bogey $42.99 in the States.
Yep, broke off the vid to check price & now £21.99 a doz😢
yeh.zero point in buying them for that prize
£22 a box just now. Amazon's on to you Rick 😂
I did the same 😂😂
@@matthewfischer9983 That’s for 2 dozen
It’s for one dozen 😂
@@austen2382 that's for 1 dozen ....... 2 dozen is £54.98.
Gone up a little since the video release.
$24 USD for a dozen and $43 for two dozen right now on Amazon
Just checked in the States and a dozen of these is $23.99 and two dozen are $42.99. They are Prime so at least free shipping and ordered today should arrive on Friday.
That thinned wedge over the green and onto the clubhouse patio was hilarious. So glad you investigated that with a camera and included the footage in the review...class!
Costco balls are cheaper and of the same quality
I picked up two dozen of these earlier this year, and have been completely happy with them. For me I'll take the softer feel and hitting fairways over the extra 10 yards any day.
Almost nothing better than you doing equipment reviews. Great look at a ball probably 90% of us could use over a “premium” ball
Classic Rick Shiels test video, I love it.
Thank you!
Yeah we’ve needed more of these. I hope Shiels does more direct to consumer brand stuff like Takomo and Sub70 clubs!
He done sub70 before
I have been missing these videos. The bloopers were mint! Thanks for the hard work Rick!
@@RickShielsPGA Don't suppose you have could do a test on the Rife RX5 tour feel balls? 3 piece and I really like them but would love to know what you think.
Rick I just started golfing in July of this year and I was shooting 42 to 48 on a par 30 9 hole course. Your videos have helped me tremendously. I'm now usually shooting around 34 to 38 on the par 30 9 hole coarse. I must thank you for the teaching videos you put. Love the content.
Bullshit.
@@aliceullrish5251 ?? What exactly are you saying is bullshit
As one of the printing press operators who have printed the boxes and sleeves for these balls and also Callaway’s premium golf balls, I can assure you that a great deal of the pricing difference comes from the cost of printing the packaging. The premium balls are printed on material that costs around $5.00 per sheet. A single sheet yields 2 box bases and lids plus the sleeves to fill both boxes. Add in the cost of printing and converting and you can see where a great deal of the cost comes from. The balls you reviewed are printed on a much cheaper sheet and the printing isn’t nearly as complex. All the same, Great review!!!
I would be curious to see you do a break 75 with a golf ball like this. I wonder how you’d do with the trade off of length vs accuracy!
10 yards its a no brainer really
I play off a 13 to 16 handicap depending on the season and I have been using these golf balls exclusively for around 2 years. There is absolutely no performance difference between them and the Chrome Soft for me. I would highly recommend giving them a try.
I can’t help but love the fact that there are affordable quality golf balls out there. It’s nice to see a major company throw a bone to us peasants!
I first came across this ball last year. I’m 70 yrs old with only fair club head speed. But I long story short, I love them! Soft, long great golf ball!
Thanks for the review Rick. I’ve been using these balls exclusively this year. It’s nice to know, I can’t blame them for my terrible play, and now I’m going to pay more to do it 😂. All jokes aside, love these reviews!
$42 now. 😂
Two things rick: you should hit a few proV1s as a reference for your shots, perhaps your swing is slower that day etc. It would be a nice comparison for us. 2. they're £22 on amazon now as we've all just searched
I was thinking the exact same thing, conditions need to be the same for the comparison to be valid, would have taken 2 minutes to hit a few Pro V1's
my current price for my preferred superhot bold is currently about $50.00(US) for 15. so about $3.33 per ball, or 2 pounds, 95P hex soft is currently $24 per dozen, or $2.00 per ball (1.77 pounds)
He's been hitting Pro V1's for several years and are what all of his baseline statistics are from.
@@AustinLindstrom I'm aware that's his go to ball and his standard distances are prov1s but there are so many variables to consider e.g weather hot/cold i hit much further in the summer, wind direction and strength, and player form. In science you would add an internal standard to a sample which is a very accurate known amount so you could compare your data against it. For all we know he was off form or a large head wind was present etc. He's used prov1 shots in the past for comparison and shown said product was not performing. It was a shame a couple weren't hit here, it's likely he would have hit a prov1 280 that day but we dont know and still a very enjoyable video.
@@Ranalol He's also not a hard science lab guy.
Good video, think it would have been worth hitting a few Pro V1's as a control. Could also have been the cold weather affecting distance.
You don’t think Rick has hit a million pro v1s in his life? He knows what a pro v1 feels like.
@@nickperryman3662 Not the feel, just for the numbers as we're not in a temp controlled studio. Easiest thing to remove any doubt is to hit a couple of Pro V1's and show the difference.
@@James__123 Yeah highly doubt these balls are 10 yards shorter than a ProV. You can find all kinds of tests of cheaper balls vs premium balls, and driver isn't usually where the difference really is. It's the wedge spin most of the time.
When I first started to play golf again after 20 years two or 3 years back, I watched Rick,, since then with his reviews and his videos I have gotten 4 pals together and we play almost every week even though we live 75 miles from each other(we meet in the middle).. thank you Rick for your honest endorsements. I and my buddy now play hot metal Mizzuno irons and we both play the Ping 425 Max and we are playing great golf again after all these years.. it really is because of Rick that we have gotten together to play weekly after 35 years..!!
Great Video Rick !! my guess is that for your swing speed these softer balls loose distance but for the golfer the ball was intended for that golfer might even gain distance compared to the tour balls you would play as it is easier for them to compress the ball, I always like the Super Soft in the spring and fall here in Canada but as temps rise, I switch to a premium ball .
Enjoyable as ever Rick. I loved your reaction to possibly hitting the club house. Quality video just like always.
Great vid as per usual! I dig these type of reviews you do with hidden gems and off the wall equipment such as illegal clubs etc... seems like it’s been awhile since you’re done such a review. Miss em bro. Thx for a great channel!
Hi Rick I’ve been playing with the Costco version of these for a long time. I agree that around the green, they tick all the boxes but for a high handicapper maximising distance isn’t as important as control around the green. I think they were around £28 for 2 dozen. Keep up the vids mate, still the best RUclipsr by far 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Picked them up in costco in June for 24
Rick I been using for the last ten years the Titleist Velocity, it has been giving me they higher ball flight and distance I've lost with age. But in the last several years I've been finding some Callaway Warbird balls and using them too, and I find they go high and always farther, always a good 15 yards and more off the tee, and one iron farther from the fairway. When I'm hitting the tee ball good I always tee up a Warbird ball, I just wish Callaway made them in the Matte Green cover like the Velocity, My opinion but this is it. Good video content as usual, thanks.
Loved the video! I would make just one suggestion on it, when doing this test you should have had the ball you play (prov1) to establish the baseline for the shots, especially on the driver. It could have been just that day that the ball wasn't going as far, and you would have been able to tell if you hit the Prov1 Side by side with it.
Love the content and keep up the great work!
Rick over exaggerates his numbers a little bit too..
I used to get the Hex Tour Soft that were at Costco and I really liked them. Very soft and decent distance.
However, I did see some ball review videos recently that suggested you leave distance and control around the green out there using "soft" balls and that harder premium balls really will make a difference to my game.
I've bought a load of Titleist Pro V1X's and I don't think I will go back. Now it is winter months I will probably use less premium balls but once we get back to spring it will be back to the Titleists!
have watched lots of your vids and have to say that is the most accurate you have ever been with the driver
Thanks for the vid Rick 🤙
Of course Amazon jsut raised the price up to £20 per box now haha! Guess I'll stick the the supersoft matt for the same price
🤣
Amazon adjusts prices based on lookups. Now a majority of the viewers will search for this ball. If you check again in a week or so the price is down again.
You should include a prov1 when doing your driver tests to ensure that you’re not having an off day when testing! It would be great to visually see the difference between the 2 when using the foresight.
I agree 100%. How can you not test the Pro V side by side at the same time. How much time would it take to hit about five more drives? Ten Pro V hits would be more accurate, but at least do five.
Best comment of any on this video. I've been saying the same thing for years with Rick. We've seen him have off and on days on the course. How do we know (or how does he know for that matter) if his swing is 2 or 3 mph slower one day or the next. It looks cold outside. Hit a PROV1 and give us a reference point. Just one shot would be fine.
I even find the chrome soft to be firm in comparison to balls I use like Pro V1x . Bridgestones even the Mizuno balls and Vice Balls.
They sell these right off the shelf in the states. Used them for a while now.
Rick once again coming through for us everyday average golfers. I may have to go buy some of these, been using the Callaway super soft lately
Let’s be honest, he is a average golfer himself.
@@samuelknott5586 what handicap are you out of interest? 💁🏻♂️
@@samuelknott5586 I wouldn't call single digit handicap "average". I play with some single digit handicappers on occasion, but they are definitely the exception, not the rule, and are definitely "above average". If I had to make a guess, I'd put his HC at around 4 (based on him usually failing to break 75, but playing at harder than average clubs for the majority of those efforts).
Callaway super soft are the absolute best bell ever..
Great content Rick. Always wondered how store branding is compared to elite
Lets Go Oilers 🟠🔵👍
Please make a comparison video maybe 5 years of each brand again or comparison between brands. I’m really love your review it’s really deep.i love that you break it down on every shot.
7:35 CLASSIC RICK SHIELS .........love it😂😂🤣🤣😅😅😁😁😀😀
Another great video, I know you did one a couple years ago Rick, but I've just tried Mizuno's newest model of the RB Tour ball, I have had IMPRESSIVE results with it. The RB Tour X was a bit hard for my liking, but the RB Tour hit 10/10 in every field (feel around greens, spin around greens, feel off putter, feel off irons, feel of driver, and distance). I actually am considering moving to Mizuno staff (off titleist) because of how impressed I am. Would love to hear/see your thoughts and findings on it. Cheers for the vids, Ricky.
They use to sell hex soft at Costco
Wow Rick Shields turning into Bubbie Golf with them wedges 😂👀
Hey Rick. I may have found an inexpensive golf ball that I'd like you to try. I have been very impressed recently with it the last few rounds. And it is... the Pinnacle soft!
Thanks for the review Rick. I think I'm going to give them a try, just to see how they affect my game. I'm a high handicaper, but the feel of a golfball does have a major affect on my confidence. Therefore, it also has an effect on my overall play. Let's see how this goes.
It's a great ball. I too am a high handicapper. It will do you well.
These were £13.99 for 10 days only over the last six months (probably over the time Rick made this video). The rest of the time they were at £21.99. That puts them alongside Titleist TruFeel, TM Distance+, Srixon AD333 and Bridgestone e12. Would be interesting to see a video comparing these as a group alongside the Hex.
TruFeel are some of my favorite for the price
Have been playing these balls the last couple of years and have always loved them. A solid cheap soft ball
Best thing I've seen all week. Even if I'm not in the market for the equipment, I'll still watch start to end. Thanks!
They raised the price to $24.99 now. Thanks Rick! 😂
42.99 right now. Fucking wankers
Braver man than me, biting into a golf ball! 😅
haha
Its best to bite them after a bunker shot, taste a little better
Thanks for the tip on these golf balls. Had the best round ever. Drives were straight stopped nicely on the greens
I've been using the Costco version (Hex Tour Soft) for some time now. $54.99AUS (£30.74) for 2 dozen. Love them. I'm a low-mid 20's playing seriously for 12 months & they do seem to make a difference for a guy with a natural fade that keeps trying to turn into a slice. My mantra on the tee box is "Better to be straight than long". Happy to sacrifice 10 metres & be on the fairway.
Only a man who remembers balata golf balls would be trying the fingernail/bite test to determine how soft they are 🤣
Bite test😂😂only works if in possession of own teeth 😂😂😂
glory days 🤣
I still have a few in my practice area at home. If we could only have that feel with today’s distances!
Hahaha. On Amazon Canada they’re listed for $84.99 for 2 dozen and $64.99 for one. Outrageous. I guess open secrets come with a price.
I have always loved your reviews, honest and upfront, I realize you have other endeavors now, but I still miss the reviews, also enjoy your podcast.. thanks for the years of equipment updates and reviews.⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳
"let's just say we got out here" points directly to the problems of this and every other indicator. Obviously looking at a historical chart, after several candles close, is a fantastic time to have closed. good luck making that call with any consistency. the other problem is flatter markets and false signals. I have my doubts about this.
Thanks a lot Rick...now they increased the price
Ball speed off the face is a function of the elastic properties of the ball which dictate the rate of decompression off the face. Lower durometer (softer) balls will compress faster and decompress slower than higher durometer ones. Since it is marketed as a “soft” ball it shouldn’t be expected to perform like a higher durometer ProV1 or others in its class. That said most recreational golfers which are the intended market don’t have your ability to compress a premium ball optimally and might get more distance at their swing speeds than with a premium ball.
Something you might also consider doing when testing balls is do the Epson salt path spin test for balance.
I am currently using the Wilson staff "Zip" golf ball. Low compression/ Soft feel ball. 22.00 USD delivered for 24 balls. Love them. Give them a try. 😀
I picked up 3 dozen on the Amazon Prime day deals. Haven't hit them yet so looking forward to this video!
On Amazon, USA - $38.99 for 2 boxes (24 balls) = 19.50 per box, or $1.67 per ball - as of 11-29-22 ---
I got these on a Black Friday deal. 24 balls for $30USD. Much prefer Supersofts. These hex soft are too “clicky” for my liking. They perform fine off the tee and around the green, but the clickiness is enough to get into my head.
For reference I don’t play performance balls (tp5, prov1, etc) because the magnified slice or hook from by bad shots is very noticeable with those. Super soft (or similar from other manufacturers) seems to be the sweet spot for mid to high handicap in my experience.
All the makings of a golf ball for high index golfers. I'm hitting Amazon right now to order a couple of dozen of these Callaway Hex Soft. Thanks Rick
Rick, great stuff! Future review idea if you want to test Piper golf balls. Looks like a Vice competitor that slightly undercuts Vice on price. They’ve got different balls based on handicap.
Full disclosure, I found them after going to Amazon to pick up some of these Hex Softs…
I thinned a sand wedge this last weekend from a fairway bunker 160 yards up near the green so I feel ya Rick. It was awesome! But I still got a bogey or double bogey lol.
I played Callaway’s Hex Diablo golf ball $22 per dozen this past summer. On normal rounds and Callaways Crome Soft $40 per dozen on my big rounds. Both really great balls
First things first; grat video as usual!! Love it too that you didn't cut out your Clubhouse shot! Don‘t get me wrong but that feels so good to see that you are „one of us“ even when its only one shot out of two hundret vs us😎
Have a cheap entry level ball that is good is a really important thing for the game. For people to really learn to be consistent and know what clubs do what it is a big help to use the same ball every time and be able to aford to lose them.
I know myself I would always use lake and found balls when I was younger, but as got older and could aford to buying new reasonable mid range balls my consitancey went up considerably.
That was a brilliant shot onto the bar patio! Ha ha.
Hey Rick, you can get these at Costco here in Australia, $60 for 2 dozen so $2.50 a ball which isn’t too bad you pay up to $7 for a premium ball here.
Awesome review and very helpful info Rick....The price of balls have gone to high in my opinion, and this review proved that without a shadow of a doubt for all of us amateur golfers. At least we can purchase with confidence that we will be playing a quality ball for our playing abilities. Thanks again and keep up the great videos.
I'm sold on the balls... now waiting for the price to go back down. Your influence reaches far Rick!
I found one of these balls on my course and used it. It stopped on a dime which is what I prefer. As far as distance did not see much difference than the Pro V1. Sad thing was a sculled a 9 iron into a large fur tree and lost it. ( didn't hit any patio furniture like you) I looked all over Calkaway's site and could not find them. Thanks for the tip.
It was great to have this secret gem that could compete head to head with the flagship models of golf ball brands at about 4 times less the price.
Is this basically the replacement for noodle balls that disappeared? That was such a good deal.
Please do a head to head review with Kirkland balls. 😁
Rick, Great review as always... but can we have Rob Potter back to test them or someone with a slower swing speed like those who would be in the market for this ball...?
What id like to know about is their findability deep in the woods. I did appreciate the recreation of my shot up on the patio, although it would have been nice to see you play it from there.
Looked cold out - should do ball reviews in similar weather conditions for distance tests.
Really thorough review. Well done.
I absolutely love the review videos! I’ve been waiting for some time for you to drop another review video on the channel. Love the Break75 but fun to see a review on things I could afford.
£13.99 ($15.75 USD) on a Lightning Deal. Currently sitting at £22 ($23.99 USD). Puts them right in line with the Bridgestone e6, Vice Tour, Titleist TruFeel, and Wilson Staff Elite 50/50s. I think we need to thunderdome these agaisnt each other.
Also... I could have sworn the Hex ball was a bit of a big deal about 5-10 years ago and definitely remember seeing them in most of the big golf retailers in the US.
I just checked at Amazon and the current price is $24 a dozen. that's a big increase and may change a lot of golfers mind about these balls.
just re-hecked Amazon, they have a 24 count box for $37.83.
$1.58 per ball
Sold out everywhere. I found one pro shop in Anchorage Alaska that had a one dozen left. I should have them by spring.
so glad you liked them as I bought these with my first set of clubs on the lightning deal 😅
I just watched a video on golf plus channel about you, I've always liked your content before but now I a much deeper level of respect for you. Next time you do a charity event I will be donating what ever I can afford.
These are hard balls with a soft cover. I got these for my father this past summer he loves these
Great review Rick, a few days late in watching and yes here in the US the price is $24 for a doz. And now a doz wont ship for 2 weeks. however the 2 doz pack is available for $43...
Love this types of video. We don’t all need to play a ProV1. Would love to see similar comparisons with lower price point drivers and wedges.
Can't buy them now at that price Rick. And I would drop 10 to 20 yards to hit the fairway every time 😂 maybe in time I would buy expensive balls but I use what ever I can ATM
"These balls are aimed at someone that will loose it before durability becomes an issue!" and then promptly slashes one into the club house. nice!
TBH these balls are for the mid to high handicapper who isn't hitting the ball clean enough to take advantage of a premium distance ball. Instead they are getting a soft feel which helps with their short game and reduced spin that keeps it straighter meaning more hit fairways.
Years ago I bought some Arnold Palmer Control Balls for £10-£12 that were advertised as better feel around the greens.
I'd buy these balls as I prefer a soft ball and my hadicap is 14 (clubs) as sometime I think I could throw it better
I purchased these a couple of weeks ago. Good to know it was a good purchase. Looking forward to testing them out now.
I am a glazier, and I say "Where you hear the crash, you better have some cash!"
Thx for the ball reviwew.
Rick DeChambeau? - not shouting fore 👀👀 good job no one was having their coffee on the terrace 😂
Have a look at the Callaway CXR control. It’s all I use and very cheap.
Yup those shot up in price. Found them for $23-$24 a box. Taylormade Distance+ balls are generally $20 for me if anyone is in the market for good cheap balls!
From “Amazin” 🤣 You’re the man, Rick!
my walmart had these on clearance last year for $2/sleeve. they only sold them by the sleeve and i don't ever remember seeing them on the shelf before they were put on clearance. Love the old hex dimple balls, Hex Bite was my go to ball for a while
I like the Hex Tour from Costco. It’s a 3 pc. ball vs 2 pc. like your Hex Soft. I get plenty of distance and works well around the greens. At $32 for 24 balls it’s a deal!
I played a handful of these that I have found on the course from time to time. These are somewhere between the Callaway Supersoft and the Superfast(old superhots that were 3 piece but are now 2 piece). For the average golfer they will fly straighter but if you are low spin player with irons these will roll out on the green. They have a softer core so anyone with above average swing speed is not going to maximize ball speed like Rick showed. Better than warbirds which are rocks.
I use the Callaway Warbirds for everyday play. I think they are decent ball's and when I hit one in the water I hardly cringe . I'd try these out for the price.
Heard about these on the pod this morning. Came here to see the model. $42/doz in the US!
your laugh at that thinned ball into the clubhouse.. gold
I missed these classic review type videos and the glass breaking sound was hilarious
The video quality is insanely good
