    I have a ileostomy for profound slow transit and it has changed my life ❤. I was on all the medication going from my Consultant and daily irrigation. I put up with it for 10 years and now I’m living. Good luck 🤞

    Thank you for making these videos, problems like these aren’t easily discussed and as much as I wouldn’t want another to go through it, it’s a comfort to listen to someone who would understand. I’ve had slow transit constipation for 14 years after a traumatic birth and it’s horrible. I used to irrigate till additional surgery to fuse my pelvis prevented me from doing so. Unfortunately no laxatives work and I can go 5-6 weeks without a peep. I have a lovely new consultant who is genuinely the kindest doctor I’ve met who is considering an ileostomy which I’d snap their hand off for. I know that probably sounds crazy but I’m so fed up. Your videos have made me feel like I’m mentally prepared, as much as you can be, should the surgery go ahead.

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Год назад +1

      I can completely understand why you would be considering ileostomy surgery. It was my decision to have a colostomy as I couldn't go through the suffering I was going through with my Crohn's.
      To not go for 5 to 6 weeks must be awful. That must cause incredible pain and is very dangerous.
      If I was in your shoes I would seriously be contemplating ileostomy surgery.

    Hello. I’m sorry you are having such a hard time with slow transit. I’ve had it for years. Sometimes there is no peristalsis for weeks on end. What I wanted to say was that about two years ago I was worried enough to try exercises. We had a big staircase at the front of the house and I started walking up the steps slowly one at a time. I would pull in my lower abdomen as much as I could then push off as I stepped to the next step holding the muscles in as much as possible. I would stop on each step and repeat until I reached the top. I kept doing it over the following days and the perstalsis started. Unfortunately we left there to a
    house on flat land in the
    country. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome and
    find it hard to go to somewhere where I can start doing the exercise again. Sorry, this is a long description but I wanted to share that technique with you and it reminds me to make more effort to get out❤️🙏😊

      Hi. Sorry for the long delay in replying. Exercise is good advice and works for a lot of people. Running or walking up and down stairs is a really good way to try and get things moving as you say.
      I am now doing stoma irrigation and that has been great so far, and I have felt my energy increase.
      I will do a video about stoma irrigation soon.

      Thanks for sharing. Hope you are finding relief. Also recovering through CFS and think maybe lack of exercise has contributed to transit and elimination issues. Exercising is improving/ becoming more tangible (walking and physical therapy) so hopefully digestive improvements are soon to follow! Well wishes.

In that time I'm bloated ,nausea, can't eat , the sweat drips off me and then im freezing I drink bottles and bottles of water even electrolytes, I get pain not only in my tummy but all over my body ,headaches , indigestion, I wee all the time , I'm weak and sleep the days around . I have no life . My Dr put it down to ibs c but I just don't think that's what it is. My mental health is horrendous when my gut is bad . Can't go on like this and I'm also menopausal. 😢

    I don't know other people's circumstances but digestive enzyme supplements, magnesium and vitamin b1 and b6 in foods certainly helped me speed up motility. Also it may be a good idea to make sure you have enough stomach acid. For this vitamin C, diluted apple cider vinegar before meals and possibly a betaine hydrochloric acid tablet during meals may help. Hope this is of benefit to some .

    Hello my first time on. I had and end colostomy 1 month ago. I have had colonic inertia perhaps my entire life having a BM every 5-7 days never bloated no issues. Normal for me. I am a nurse and had 3 back surgeries affected Lumbar4-5 and Sacral 6:54 S1. From 1983-1990. In the late 1997 I started having difficulty defecating. Many years, many GI visits, behavior modification, anal mammography. I always flunked tests. My last Sitz marker test 30 markers ingested and 5 days later all 30 had finally made in to the top of my ascending colon. The only way I could have a BM was to manually remove it. I hid this habit from 6:54 everyone except my Dr. Treatments always consisted of fiber and trying every new laxative on the market. Laxatives and diet gave me terrible cramps and pain. But unless I uncorked the bottle nothing would flow. So I decided I wanted a colostomy for my 80 th birthday. I had many sleepless nights worried about who would care for this problem if and when I could not! So I have my colostomy but still have colonic inertia.
    My biggest problem is I have a significant stoma divot necessitating using a convex system. I tried several but am now using Coloplast. I cannot seem to get poop to enter the bag often resulting in pancaking. Even if I have a normal stool, the matter rests in the convex portion. I drink and eat right. Any suggestions?

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Год назад

      Hi so sorry for the long delay in replying! I hope you are ok. What type of convex bag are you using? I use convex bags because I suffered with pancaking, I rarely have a problem with pancaking now. Have you discussed with your stoma team about a firmer convex?

      @@sydneystoma385 hi! I am doing good it’s been 8 weeks since surgery. Spoke with my Colopast team and they recommended I try a deep convex. Using that with the mio click . Since I only have BM mmatter every few days it’s easy to manage. I still have to deal with some pancaking because stool is normally formed. Using the disposable bag helps. My system appears to be returning to its normal state.
      How are you?

    • @LP-fw3wl
      @LP-fw3wl 10 месяцев назад

      You can try putting baby oil inside bag, especially where the output come out. For stool consistency, need it be soft to reduce pancaking, perhaps you can play around small dose movical/miralax mix with psyllium husk to keep it soft, and drink lots of water too.

    I'm a carer for my friend. I find what causes his is medication like omeprazole etc as it's a gut tablet. Also lactulose is worth taking as it lubricates the intestine and isn't to harsh. What is harsh is fibre gel.

    Constipation really sucks!! I am sorry you have to deal with this! Is this connected to the Crohn's diseease, or is this something entirely separate? Does it only affect what's left of your colon, or your small intestines too?

    You commented that you took a medication that caused you to virtually flood your stoma bag, could you tell me what that medications name was. I'm heading in a direction of having my colon removed and I'm using multiple enemas to try to empty material out of my colon, but they haven't given me any medication that would promote peristalsis. I would like to have this medication in my medical arsenal if you know what I mean. I had the exact same test with the marker tablets and it turned out i had slow motility aswell, so sometimes i have to take bisacodyl tablets and movicol because i have severe chronic constipation (which I've probably had for over a decade). Prucalopride was prescribed by gastroenterologist who assessed my markers of which I had retained 56 out of 60. After trying every remedy under the sun over many years, this is the only effective one Ive had without harsh side-effects. Keep nagging them until they sort it out for you. It s quite an expensive drug at around a pound a tablet (1 tablet per day is usual dose) so maybe they are reluctant to prescribe it longterm.

    Just wondering from colonic transit study, does yr dr think if the colostomy revise at tranverse colon instead of at sigmoid, would it help with constipation? I had ileostomy and its not fun when u dealing with dehydration, less food choices( fruits, veg ) because they cause higher watery output.

      I’ve had it since birth, I was born this way, but back then there was no official diagnosis for it, and it wasn’t until I ended up at the doctor’s for the extreme pain of it in 2010 that when tested I was told I had extremely slowed intestinal movement. I was told my intestines barely moved, causing repetitive constipation issues. It isn’t stress, although stress can make any medical issue worse, or more unbearable. I had to completely change my food choices, by simply introducing far more leafy greens into my diet (juicing made this easier)and remove as much processed sugars as possible. Which is still very hard because I love cakes and desserts. So it’s a daily effort that I struggle with, but I had to learn to just roll with it, and learn to recognize when I’ve too much of the wrong things and adjust.
