Does gas go into your bag after surgery ? Normally, it would release through the rectum. And, if it does go into your bag, how do you handle it? Also, do you really have to stay off work or driving for weeks just for the colonoscopy? Thanks for your help.

Hi Sydney, thanks for your valuable and helpful videos. I had my stoma surgery (colostomy) back in Aug 2021 due to colorectal cancer which was very low so entire rectum had to be removed and in that process there is a high chance veins which supply blood to the organ gets damaged or cut. I was not explained in detail about ED but that would not have changed my decision. I have this issue and unfortunately Viagra has not helped at all. Not tried any other options and don't know if there are any trusted and proven options out there. Waiting for an appointment with urologist for last 10 months. Thanks to you again and everyone who has contributed. if I can be of any help, please feel free to reach out.

This is really helpful. So many videos are from the USA which has different practices, so it's good to hear what goes on in the UK. I had my colectomy and permanent ileostomy in 2015 after ulcerative colitis leading to colon cancer, and they left a rectal stump. I have had 2 parastomal hernia repairs which both failed (the last one in 2018 led to sepsis and further hospitalisation). I was then referred to a different hospital in another town at the end of 2018. Since then it's been a comedy of errors and I've been waiting over 5 1/2 years for my operation to correct a complex parastomal hernia which is now spreading to my midline incision. They have decided that I need Barbie Butt surgery because there is still inflammation in the rectal stump which continues to put me at greater risk of developing another cancer. Your description of the aftercare in the UK is extremely useful. The next step in my journey is the pre-assessment with the anaesthetist, having seen the surgeon last week, and hopefully I will get a date soon, although I'm not holding my breath as we've been here before. You've given me some pointers to put on my list of things to discuss with the anaesthetist. Many thanks! Good to hear how well you have done, and that you have good quality of life now. IBDs are the pits, aren't they!

My wife is divorcing me because of my colostomy. No sex in 4 years since my operation. I have a parastomal hernia a year after the op. Now she's decided she can't handle it anymore and is leaving me after 15 years. This stoma ruined my life.

    • @PaulBurns1

Dam Dude! I'm feelin you. I'm 6 weeks out from getting mine, which by the way, saved my life and I'm guessing saved yours as well? I don't know you or her, but I'll mention that you have to become comfortable and accepting of your body the way it is, cuz if you don't- she won't and that goes for who "She" is, whether your wife or a new girlfriend. This says a lot about your wife, if she is truly leaving you BECAUSE of your stoma and not other problems. As we get older, we are going to have problems here and there and need to accept that in our mates. If she can't accept that, wish her well and let her go. You'll find someone who'll accept you as you are. There is also nothing wrong with being by ourselves, finding contentment in the peace of the moment, without expectations of fulfillment from another. On a side note, I clean up and change bags, wear a light compression garment and a loose top, while having sex. I don't want to see a bag with poop in it flopping around lol. Well anyways, I don't often comment on YT but I felt you could use some kind words. In the hospital, I mentioned more than once, that I should just eat a bullet, I never thought this would happen to me. But here I am, alive, eating good, getting back to work, life moves on. By the way wife hide my pistol, she still won't give it back yet lol. I hope all works out for you, take care.

I am so sorry to hear your wife has been unsupportive, when you have an unsupportive partner that makes life incredibly difficult, so i understand why you feel the stoma has ruined your life. But maybe just maybe it will be a blessing and you will meet someone that loves all of you and will be supportive.

Chris, I'm curious if you've heard of this product being available in the U.S.? I've got a permanent colostomy. Like you, I've had difficult with Coloplast Mio product as it doesn't adhere well for me. I typically go through 1 or 2 a day and can't get in the pool and swim laps like I'm used to. I'm relatively thin but have a problem getting it to stick in the 9:00 position. It appears that the Pelican Modavi has a superior sticking ability and I'd really like to try it. You commented that you took a medication that caused you to virtually flood your stoma bag, could you tell me what that medications name was. I'm heading in a direction of having my colon removed and I'm using multiple enemas to try to empty material out of my colon, but they haven't given me any medication that would promote peristalsis. I would like to have this medication in my medical arsenal if you know what I mean. Thank you for this video, I've subscribed, and will be going through your other videos to get your experiences and wisdom.

    • @sydneystoma385

It is not really filters that cause pancaking, if you use flat based bags and your stoma is low to the skin, and your output is thick that is what causes pancaking.

Chris. Thankyou so much for sharing the 3 vids. I am booked in for the same soon and I am very anxious. Also the info I have been sent is all describing a rectal procedure. You have really helped. Thanks so much
