In 1958 I began my violin studies and set the bar on Michael Rabin. I Knew then that I would never clear it but he was and will always be my greatest inspiration.
Incredible playing and so interesting a format...the US TV Talent Show!!! Michael's playing was such a big part of my study time in Toronto. It may even have contributed to me switching to viola!!!
What can one say about this angelic perfomance? Rabin was a divine violinist; one of the very best musicians of all times and the sad and early conclusion of his life deprived our world of much beauty.
Genius.. thank you very much for posting it, I am so moved. I used to listen to his LP which gave perfect performances with incredibly beautiful tone. I knew he had been said to be a gifted violinist since he was a child, but I hadn't had a chance to listen to his early recordings until I came here.
Rabin = prodigy!! I just posted my own rendition of this piece- man, Rabin sure had a killer technique! If only he had lived longer... thanks so much for posting this, as most of us would never have seen it otherwise!
Wow, only 15 huh? Explosive technique! Thanks for posting the video- good motivation for me, as I'm planning on posting my own rendition in a few days (after I've practiced a bit!)
Wow! Didn't expect to see you here, Ben. I just want say thank you, as your videos helped my progress as a violinist tremendously. You must be working real hard on this piece, though 14 years of practicing is a bit long. (LOL!) I would love to hear your interpretation :)
Well, (talented and hardworking) violinists (who are the ones who tend to be successful) generally achieve their full potential of technique between the ages of 14 and 24. Listen to young Heifetz, Menuhin and S. Watanabe.
This is a perfect example of precsely why he killed himself in his (I believe) late 30s. He could not improve much on the ability he had in his middle teens and could not live with the shame.
Tricked vid? He did'nt play everything!!!! And What a vid?!!! can't beleive this is from 1951!!! Funny, he looks as if he was blind... lol (not attacking him, just opinion and observation...)
Probably under-rehearsed. The ensemble is a beat off from 1:18-1:24, plus a wrong entrance @ !:46. And the band pushes and pushes him in the last 8 bars. Remember Milton Berle was televisions #1 star and this was a wonderful showcase for Rabin's talent. So what if people tuned in for Berle and, I guess., his guest star Danny Thomas..........

So lucky to have this video. Rabin is the best!

An incredible loss to the world of music. Such a tragedy, his death! Thanks for posting.

Remembering you dear Michael on the 86th anniversary of your birth.
no words to say great violinist
he played damn good, and died so fucking young.
Masht Ali. What's with the swearing? Are you Muslim? You need to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Miraculous. Was there ever anyone better TY M.
Speechless!
...... what a beauty .... hypnotizing ..... ...
Rabin great ... every good musician should know this execution ... really impressive!
Wonderful ❤
I think he's happy every time he plays. Especially if he's doing a television performance.
well mozart is the typical example. The most well known composer to have ever lived, and indeed nothing short of a genius, yet only lived to 35.
listen to josef hassid's performance. he was a real talent too
w dniu dzisiejszym odczuwam emocje tego utworu :)

5stringFernandoSor. Michael Rabin didn't kill himself. He had some sort of illness and fell.
you can tell when rabin isnt happy when hes playing, his eyes open and looking at something
It sounded like a whistle 2 me.

Everything was broadcast live, with no chance for a retake.
