Tested in -15C Canadian Winter - Fjallraven Skogso padded jacket (not the Yupik jacket) Fit:- Many of the reviews I have read about Fjallraven jackets say to size down. I am glad that I sized down from Small to Extra Small (for reference I’m 5’6”, weight 140 lbs). I was initially afraid sizing down to XS size would not let me layer sweaters, however the XS let’s me layer up to three layers under the jacket no problem. If you have an average weight to height ratio I strongly recommend you size down for Fjallraven jackets. If you have above average weight, bust, or belly I would recommend you choose your normal size in Fjallraven jackets. Fjallraven jackets appear to be made for a Scandinavian lanky build with longer torso and generally speaking your normal size is just going to look way too big if you do not fit this local body build. Style:- I would say this is a “rustic style” or “Nordic timelessly simple but defined quality style”, my wife said it’s a “nice dad style” on me. My impression is Fjallraven is not a “modern style” or “city commuter refined style” like Canada Goose incase that is what you are looking for. Warmth:- Tested on a 15 min walk in mid-January Canadian winter sunny day at -15C (5F) with no wind outside (note - I also wore thermal top + bottom long base layer underwear + thick material long sleave mid layer top + denim pants + thick gloves, thick socks and fur lined insulated winter hat). - It kept me warm and comfortable during my 15 min walk. I have no doubt the Skogso jacket will be warm and comfortable with just a shirt up to -5C (23F) anything below that or during cold windy days you will have to layer up appropriately. Jacket sleeve:- As mentioned by other reviewers yes the sleeve is long. However I sized down and the sleeve isn’t much of an issue. The slightly longer sleeve does help when you stretch your arm and the material isn’t riding up. There is a Velcro to tighten it at your wrist. Zipper:- As mentioned by other reviewers the zipper is on the other side (European?) and it also requires me to keep it perfectly straight with the bottom zipper tab when zipping up. It is a bit weird but I don’t think it’s a big issue and something I will get used to. The jacket comes with a twin bottom zipper which I find useful to undo when I am seated in the car. There are plenty of pockets on this jacket…the outer pockets all have zippers. Hood:- lightly insulated hood is a great feature that kept me warm in the very coldest temperature. Bottomline: if you are looking for a winter jacket with warmth as your primary objective there are plenty of other brands like North Face that offer better warmth for a much better price than Fjallraven. If you are looking for a “modern style” or “city commuter refined style” AND you are willing to pay double the price material quality and name I would recommend Canada Goose. If you are looking for a “rustic style” or “Nordic timelessly simple but defined quality style” AND you are willing to pay more for the quality I would recommend Fjallraven. I was looking for a different style than Canada Goose and I was willing to pay more for the style and quality of material - I went with the Fjallraven Skogso Padded Jacket and I would recommend this jacket for sub-zero Canadian winter weather with layering when appropriate.
I have a yupik, sarek and two greenland jackets. Never thought they would be extra fashionable somewhere. We just use these in Finland because it can get cold in the winter. We tend to use brands that have more value on the usability and specs. No one is walking around with prada here but everyone has just as expensive clothes with minimal branding.
The most important part of your wardrobe is your coat. It's pretty much the only thing that you're going to wear every single day (besides maybe your shoes or whatever) so you better like how it looks. On the other hand, it's also the part of your wardrobe that has to be the most functional to keep you warm. You will fall in love with the right jacket.
In Swedish Fjällräven is arctic fox or mountain fox. But fjällröven is mountain ass. Probably a condition you’d get from hiking with improper underoos.
Now that you've owned your Yupik for quite a while, would you recommend it? If so, do you wear your normal size in the Yupik? I know I've read many reviews that recommend wearing a size smaller than you normally wear in most jackets.
So I'm moving to the cold and I need some help buying winter gear. What is the purpose of getting such a bug jacket when you could get a down and a water proof shell?
It is called Winter Fox in English. The Keb pants are awesome. They are hiking or climbing pants but keb is the most comfortable ecoshell. The black looked better on you kid. They have other cool clothes but colors are a huge thing for this brand.
People may still think they are better of with a Canada Goose or The North Face or Mountain Hardwear, just by looking at pictures. This way doesn't work for Fjallraven: this brand needs to be tried and worn actually, to recognize where the money went... sturdy materials, good fit, and a no-nonsense, practical design with LOTS of pockets. I own the Yupik, Barents, Ovik down jacket and Ovik down parka, as well as the classic expedition down jacket and... to save the best for last: that brutal 3kg heavy Expedition down parka no. 1! And just yesterday, I bought a Greenland down jacket... just try one of these on in a shop, and if you're after some real quality jacket, you will be HOOKED :-) By the way, the same goes for their trousers... the only ones I'm wearing nowadays, summer and winter!
I have there pullover wind jacket its good for the summer etc but not really a winter jacket at all getting a napapijiri rainforest winter jacket at Christmas tho instead of the fjallraven pull over jacket
my place dont have any winter but is a lucky day bc i going to a place that have winter ty for showing the jacket great great videos i sup and i buying the jacket that you buy want
Depends where you live in Canada. Toronto has fairly mild winters. 8 hrs north of Toronto sees winter reach -30 regularly with the wind chill bringing it up to -40 +. I'm sure if you make your way up to the Yukon they would be saying that is toasty.
I also wanna buy yupik parka, but according Fjallraven it's not 100 waterproof(zipper) also they got water column at 10 000 mm etc... Still nice jacket have to size down 1 or 2 sizes. Fjallraven Barents gots watercolumn at 7000 mm, so it's pure bollocks whit waterproof have been talking whit them, think they know best !!?
I've ordered an alpha industries N3B parka and I got it in a medium which is my normal size but don't know if this jacket is going to fit me the way I like it l, guess that's what I get for ordering rather than trying to find one in store 😂
I know how it feels when it's hard to pick only one. Those jacket looks pretty dope. I wish there was winter where I'm from man but unfortunately in Puerto Rico it feels like summer every day, every month, every year smh #sneakertalk50k #sneakertalk60k
Great video, love the jacket I probably would have gone for the black tho. I don't have a winter jacket yet but it doesn't get to cold here so I should be straight. Keep up the good work #SneakerTalk50k

My mom had/ still has a fjällräven kånken backpack and she has had that bag for almost 30 years and it has just now started deteriorating.
3:25 winter jacket starts
"the little logo once you open the zipper is pretty and need and sweet" :D LOL

There is a Fjallraven store on Queen St W by the way, west of MEC.

Now that you've owned your Yupik for quite a while, would you recommend it? If so, do you wear your normal size in the Yupik? I know I've read many reviews that recommend wearing a size smaller than you normally wear in most jackets.
What size did you get eventually?
So I'm moving to the cold and I need some help buying winter gear. What is the purpose of getting such a bug jacket when you could get a down and a water proof shell?

"Synthetic down" = term used to glorify polyester.

Depends where you live in Canada. Toronto has fairly mild winters. 8 hrs north of Toronto sees winter reach -30 regularly with the wind chill bringing it up to -40 +. I'm sure if you make your way up to the Yukon they would be saying that is toasty.
