GT is the base version of the GeForce G series (theyre old but if u play minecraft u may as well get a 1030)
Then we have GTS, which is an upgrade to GT (GTS is kinda outdated now - I mean, COME ON, when have you last seen a GTS card?)
GTX is one step up (you see why the X is there? - I think it might stand for eXtreme)
RTX has R instead of G for “ray tracing” (GTX cards dont have this feature on their hardware by default (this caused a lot of confusion in the comments), while all RTXs do)
We also have a subgroup in the GeForce mix. These are the Titans. Some older titans are branded as gtx, some rtx. Some others have names like the titan X, titan xp (codename pascal) etc etc (With the release of 30xx series, the name Titan has been abandoned in favour of the xx90 desigantion. But you never know, they might make a comeback.)
Then we have Quadro (which costs lots (QUADRO RTX 800 = $6K) and isnt really for gaming, its for MAKING GAMES) and why am i talking bout this bc its not a GeForce series lineup
    Edit- well this blew up

I love it how every video concentrates on gaming when it comes to GPUs. Nvidia pushed RT tech into their GPUs because gameing is not their only market. Along with gaming they are targeting video producers, VFX artists, 3D animators etc. who use software like After Effects, Blender, DaVinci Resolve ... that use ray tracing for better results but slow down rendering times and make real time view almost impossible.

I have an MSI RTX 3060, I had an old GTX 1080 before it, it could barely run ARK Survival Evolved I had to have it on the lowest settings.
The first thing I did though was test ARK with the RTX and I could have the game on the highest settings with no lag.
I also don't have a very new computer it's at least 4 or 5 years old but I maxed out the memory but honestly, it did not do much for improving the game's performance.
With the 12 GB memory on the RTX it really helped make my PC last a few more years before I can retire it for uploading videos to RUclips.
But I have to agree with the Ray Tracing many games still don't have support for this that I own which is a bummer but I have noticed way more games start adopting DLS support which, given the video is now 2 years old it should hopefully start looking up to better support for raytracing. The other thing I like about it is you can also have 3 4K monitors, I used to only be able to have 2 4K on my 1080 GTX but it's nice with the extra desktop space also as a gamer and RUclipsr I have to say that three monitors is way better for recording as I can have my recording software over on one monitor record the game on my main monitor and browse the web on the game wiki on my third without needing it to be shown on screen.
Overall all though, I have to say you are right RTX is really new in that regard and it may be worth holding off for now until you know for sure more games adopt the ray tracing feature.
If you have a holder computer you don't want to give up just yet, either to wait for technology to advance a bit before you buy parts you can, however, use the RTX to get by a bit longer thanks to the hardware on the graphics card.
I just suggest being very careful who you buy it from, I got mine on Amazon and hand to replace my Credit Card because the seller sold the data or something so if you buy one on sites like Amazon makes sure to do it through Amazon Credit or website credit if possible so you don't have to replace your card if something like that happens.
Anyhow, I personally think for me it was worth the money for my needs but others may have different needs and may want to go with a GTX as they are simply easier to get your hands on.

1:42 What "Nope"? They DO mean something!
Look, GTX stands for "Giga Texel shader eXtreme" and here is the breakdown of each term:
    - Giga: A prefix meaning billion.
    - Texel: Short for "texture pixel". It refers to the fundamental unit of texture maps, with textures in games being comprised of arrays of texels.
    - Shader: In computer graphics, a shader is a type of computer program originally used for shading in 3D scenes (the production of appropriate levels of light, darkness, and color within an image).
    - eXtreme: This term doesn't really refer to any technical capabilities, but over the years, it just came to mean "high-end graphics card".
and RTX stands for "Ray Tracing texel eXtreme" and here is the breakdown of each term:
    - Ray Tracing (RT): This is a rendering technique that generates an image by tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects. This enables advanced effects that better reflect real-world optical properties, such as softer and more realistic shadows and reflections.
    - Texel: Short for "texture pixel". It refers to the fundamental unit of texture maps, with textures in games being comprised of arrays of texels.
    - Xtreme (X): This term doesn't really refer to any technical capabilities, but over the years, it just came to mean "high-end graphics card".

It's pretty for sure but my rule of thumb is I need a minimum of 60 fps for a smooth experience. Thankfully my hardware is powerful enough to run most games with RT on at 60fps especially with DLSS. In Cyberpunk for example, i turned it on and off depending on the mission as sometimes I needed higher fps vs just cruising and enjoying the graphics. I can't wait till RTX is no longer a huge fps hit as it is nice to look at.

I’m using both a GTX 1660 Super and RTX 2060 Super FE. Love both cards. NVENC is the biggest reason why I went with The 16 and 20 series cards; I replaced (returned my 5600XT) for the 1660 Super and even though it was not as powerful the experience was better for Twitch streaming. Still 90-100fps on COD Warzone and no complaints.
Now with the 2060 Super I can max out all settings with RT and get around 120fps avg. looks beautiful.
Do I need the performance of the 2060
Super over the 1660super ? No. The regular 2060 is just a hair better than the 1660Super. But why did I get the 2060super?!? Hell I don’t know. I liked the Founders edition I guess lol

These companies are artificially inflating the prices by pretending there's a shortage. Shortage only lasted a couple months they are caught up now.

I recently bought a 2080 super and I'm just a working man. Started with a $400 5700xt but the drivers are sooo bad that almost any newer game would crash at some point. Had everything updated and tried multiple drivers too, but still would crash. Returned and got money back, decided to go team green and didn't want to downgrade in performance. Everywhere I looked 2070 Supers were sold out so that left 1 option. Worked a bunch of overtime for a few weeks and decided to buy something I've always wanted, a great GPU. Bought the ROG Strix and it didn't disappoint, although it did cost me $780. Damn near silent playing almost any AAA game, never hit temps over 64, and fans never went over 51%. GPU tweekII makes overclocking real simple and I can monitor or record any spec in real time. It is pretty large but the RGB goes with my RGB build as well. I bought it cause I wanted to game on my 4k TV at 60fps, 120 fps for 1440p and so far works like a charm. I did try Ray Tracing but I did lose significant performance. It will only make sense to turn on in the future when more games come with both Ray Tracing and DLSS 2 to offset the performance drop. It is the most stable, high performance graphic card I've ever had. It will allow me to activate gsync too when I upgrade to a LG oled in the future too (gotta work that overtime again). The only downside is that none of the 20 series RTX cards have a HDMI 2.1 port on them which is necessary for 120fps on 4k, and the newer ones coming out this year will. The LG oleds have a 2.1 so should I have waited for the newer graphic cards? Maybe, but they will probably be crazy expensive and real hard to find when they first come out, not to mention I never like to be the "beta tester" for new drivers that haven't been tested wide-scale yet. If they perform well, I'll consider buying one in a year or so when they come down in price and have been thoroughly tested with easy to find performance specs available online. Until then I'll enjoy playing my games on ultra settings in 4k.

So, for the record - 1600 series cannot do ray tracing, and are in fact weaker than 1080/1080 ti and 1070/1070ti cards that came out. The 1650/1660/1660ti were made as BUDGET GPU. They barely replace the 1060 by only an 8% performance difference and 23% in comparison to the 1660 TI, but is still -8%~20% in comparison to the 1070/TI version. The only reason you see these being used so often is because they are budget cards in comparison to available NEW cards (the 2000 and 2000 super series).
Secondly, even if ray tracing is a 'technology for the future' the fact of the matter is that at launch there were 0 supported titles to even show the purpose of the technology. The 2000 Series cards were identical in performance to their older 1000 series counter parts and only became better in performance after Nvidia released the 2000 Super series which bumped up Cuda cores slightly and boost speeds giving a 15~20% gain. Any consumer can tell you that if you do this type of marketing then the product is seen as a gimmick because it isn't fully realized, has potential to fail, and has virtually no gain over older products.
In conclusion, Nvidia should have touted about the technology, got game developers to adopt it in prior to release, and had the increase in performance on top of the turing architecture to begin with. I feel sorry for anyone who got caught up in the first generation of 2000 series just because they got conned into buying a card that honestly wasn't ready to be released until the Super series came out. Plain and simple, that is why so many saw Ray Tracing as a Gimmick. Not because they didn't acknowledge the technology, but because Nvidia sold cards based on Ray tracing and DLSS when they otherwise didn't improve the performance of the card to make it appealing/worth it over having the 1000 series cards for initial release.

I enjoyed your vid., ty! I'm running an RTX 2080 (yes the one before the Super was made available) and I find it a very capable card, I do use the ray tracing on a few games, Battlefield V for example, yet as pointed out in this review, a 1070ti would still carry you far. I'm a small time hot rod junkie so I got the RTX 2080 when it was new, and it is indeed a very good card; provided that your system is able to work to take advantage of this. I built another system which uses the RTX 2070 Super. I'm happy with the performance of these cards, yet dismayed by the cost vs AMD. I have tried an AMD RX5700xt card, and was very happy with it till it failed strangely. As a result, I stayed w/the Nvidia cards as the driver software is very good and these cards are primarily without any issues driver/performance wise. So, who's to know, it's like sports cars a bit, or the armor/outfits/skins you have for your toon in what ever game you like to play. Are you enjoying your time in game? In the end more attention to some things and less to others; or none to something else. Where does the lotus flower lie? In the hand or in the eye?

    • @MLWJ1993
      @MLWJ1993 4 года назад +2

Depends on the software, some can take advantage of the additional RT/Tensor cores to significantly speed up certain rendering tasks (I think blender does at least support that). Then again, the Quadros do have specialised drivers optimised for content creation & various helpful driver options in that regard which is what most of the budget of a quadro goes to, also partly slight over pricing to steer the general masses away from accidentally purchasing a GPU they don't need for their purposes.
