I love watching how things are made/done. I know it would've made the video longer but I'd've loved to've see everything done in real time. Regardless...awesome video!
Thanks for that fast, down-and-dirty video Allen! That was the first silicone mask video of yours that I've seen. Thank you for the lesson. It was very informative and enjoyable!
I've slowly dipped my toes in the silicone pool by making ears, lol. I'm planning on making some faces to put in jars. I appreciate the tips and tricks!
Thank you for your work and sharing trade techniques. I'm trying to get one of my nephews (who is also obsessed with Ray Harryhausen) some materials to study outside my notes in Stan Winston School of Character Arts and practical applications in haunt industry animatronics. I'm sure I stumbled on words there and the storm is cutting my internets out, but I hope you don't mind if I send this to my sister's kid to supplement his studies.
I think this is the first time I have seen you go into an FX supply house instead of Home Depot! LOL, I am a little disillusioned . :) Edit: oh you can buy Naphtha in TX? In the Republic of California mommy Pelosi says we are not allowed to buy that still. Funny I still see Adam Savage's people using this stuff in their vids and also Xylene. They used Xylene to paint their baby Yoda puppet they said. Thank goodness for eBay I guess.
Hey! I'm the first commenter! Would placing the mask on a silicone mat help with releasing the mold, or would that be more trouble than it's worth? I always enjoy your videos. This one was especially enjoyable. I love the combination of craft and silliness.
@@StiltbeastStudios when you were hugging and pulling on it..the vaccumn fight we have with these things LOL..a certain individual always comments on how i "struggle" with demolding and i try o explain the very same thing..its a vaccumn fight LOL..even the BEST like you have to go rounds with it:)
Amazing! Thanks so much for making this one. I know it was an expense for you, so it is appreciated. As always, your teaching is "lights out" (lights out means next to flawless). The thinning of the silicon got me thinking about fake blood again. 🤔. I bet thinned silicone with some food coloring or oil paints could make a cheap alternative to the almighty Perma. Thoughts?
Hi Allen, Alan here. Lol I've seen people degass their silicone and you did not. Is it the type of silicone you used or something you do where its not necessary? My plan is to make an Art the clown mask and the best ones I've seen were made from silicone, and i believe the one in the film is silicone as well. Would this be the best option for me in your opinion?
Mesmerizing. Your videos are awesome. In one of your videos you were putting fake hair on 1 of your mask. And I am going to try to do that on my skeleton Mr. Captain that sits in the back seat of my SUV. long black hair. Under his pirate hat. Thank you for sharing your videos you are blessing.🎉🎉
Where do you get that awesome foam blade? It looks like it makes cutting that foam so much easier 👍As always you amaze me, thank you for sharing your methods and how it’s done.Your an awesome, generous man! Haunt on! 🤘🏻🎃🤘🏻
This is fabulous. I dont understand why you are not wearing a mask, even though I did notice your ventilation system, but l would still wear a mask. This stuff is all chemical 😢. Not bashing you, your talent is exceptional, just would like to see you stay safe. 🫶
Hey Alan? I’ve asked around on instagram about what to do regarding molds that grow, well, mold and so far all they seem to agree on is soapy water with a chip brush should fix that. I guess my question is how do I avoid plaster molds from getting moldy, to begin with? Plus, besides Clorox wipes (which is what I used), what else would you recommend if it comes to cleaning mold off?
1-For making natural human face silicon mask, I have front of head human face so how can I add behind of head to my silicon mask?do you have tutorial for this?2-When I haven't human live model so how can I make human face mask silicon? Means can I use from what things replacement? Thanks
What is "red fly" for the silicone additive? I believe I've heard it somewhere else, but i cant figure out what to type in Google to find anything other than bug killer 😂 Edit, is it like flocking powder?
Allen uses WED clay. It's water-based. Cheaper than Monster Clay (oil-based). Used for fast sculpts. A couple to a few days, must stay moist. Requires bagging when not actively sculpting.
thanks for your time making the comment, I appreciate all of them- and questions mean that people are thinking about the videos and are going to make stuff, I love that.
Thank God I'm not allergic to latex. It's so much easier.
it really is lol
I would love to make a silicone half mask in the future. Latex is fun, but I want to try something different.

You can also cast silicone in plaster
you can, but you have to seal it since it is pourous- I seal my plaster molds with johnsons paste wax!
Can you add the velcro afterward with the silicone you used to paint it?

the silicone really is not that bad- the resin needs a respirator if you do it a bunch. watch my safety video I did if you want more info.

clean with vinegar actually, not just soapy water- and to keep them from getting moldy put them in a garbage bag with a few silica packs.

Doesn't petroleum jelly degrade silicone?
no, it degrades latex. its inert to silicone- many silicones can even have PJ mixed in while you combine components.
