To be honest, as great as Queen are, they and their fans were VERY, VERY fuken lucky to get a legend like Paul singing for them in the first place - he is right up there with the very best like Ian Gillan, Robert Plant, David Coverdale etc
Well, yeah….totally agreed. But in the studio, Freddie had few peers. His ability to sing so many different pitches, so accurately in tune, so many different tones…..But I’m not leaving Burton Cummings, Steven Tyler, Brad Delp and yeah, Don Henley off the list.
@@darksword1 My point has nothing to do with studio recordings that do not exist. I was talking about something real that happened in front of a paying audience - which was truly awful (and badly misjudged).
i really love Paul Rodgers voice and lets face it if he wasnt doing this you wouldnt be able to enjoy the Queen experience at all. So he's done all you Queen fans a massive favour by stepping up so you can still relive those glory days when Freddie was still with us!! He always admitted he was no Freddie thats why he put his own spin on the songs! Enjoy but please dont diss Paul!!
Freddie, openly admitted he was no Paul Rodgers, when the band was discussing his vocals during a rehearsal. Freddie was looking at Paul as a mentor. Full circle.
You guys are kidding, of course. Paul Rodgers is every singer's favorite singer. He's a musician's musician, as is Brian May. If you had been in a band and you lost Freddie you'd be overjoyed and in tears to get Paul Rodgers. He's just plain excellent. Of course he sounds different, but this is a different band. Period. Cheers, peace all.
This version?? every version Brian does of this song is amazing ...why?? because he originally played on it ...thats why.....Freddie & Paul ...2 different singers ...so Freddie could not have sang it the same way..
Thank you ABC for the documentary on these icons .... I heard only a 10 second snippet and am obsessed with THIS VERSION!!! OMG it’s amazing. I live the hard rocking version too but THIS IS SPECIAL!
Amazing Version of one of the best Rock-Songs in History. And i think this time Paul Rodgers' voice is really fitting, especially in the slow part! Hope the tickets for their tour won't be too expensive.
@@iorekby I have read in a few places that May was a big Paul Rodgers fan, and that on the first album he asked FM to sing a bit like Paul, but Freddie balked. Reportedly, Freddie was a huge fan of the early Robert Plant. (And yeah, why not) But I saw Queen in 1980 w Freddie, 2004 w Paul Rodgers and in 2021 with Adam Lambert. Now, face it…Lambert is damn near a super hero mutant w his vocal gifts, and I’d probably list him as the most gifted singer I’ve ever heard, male or female. But I definitely enjoyed them the most on the 2004 Q + PR show. A 2nd guitarist, more keyboards and singers, and Paul just made them a bluesier hard rock band. But let’s not mince words, without Freddie writing probably their definitive tunes, no slights to the rest of them….It is always all about the composition.
Freddie was the best of the betters, but Freddie is dead, is sad ,but true, so, this band can not stop, cause they are incredible, fantastic. God save the Queen. Filipe Rocha, Brazil.
I think all of us (Queen fans) can say - Freddie was one and only frontman for the band called Queen...but we all know that Freddie is gone. So keeping respect for the previous years and HIS genius I'm watching "new" Queen and thinking - It's a fuckin' awersome version, stage is on fire, and Paul is one of the greatest voices of rock n roll, freddie will be pround of him. The still ROCKS and have fun. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!
I like the original with Freddie, I love the version Queen did with Extreme’s Gary Chorone at tyhe Freddie Mercury Tribute concert but I loved the acoustic version they did here.
it's funny when people talk about this song changing just because paul was in the band. Actually, Brian sung this song live on a solo album in 1998 as a Japanese bonus track and it was the same version - he even performed the song like this on a uk tour he did in 2001/2 (so many people think it was new for this line up, or Paul's idea, but I'm afraid not)
Please don´t get me wrong though I´m glad that Rog and Brian keep the group going. If they ever come to my country I´ll be the first one to buy myself a consertticket.
Ótima versão ,mas, Freddie para sempre! Great version, but,Freddie for ever! Große Version, sondern Freddie für immer! Gran versión, pero, Freddie para siempre! Grande version, mais, Freddie pour toujours! Queen,I Love You!His music is part of my life.
I have to admit, I enjoyed the song. PR deserves props for touring with Queen and having to endure the PR bashing. A mild fan of his past work with BC and Free, I thought this was very good.
Dam right I'm from hartlepool and he was Middlesbrough born and bred. Same as Chris rea. The only next step was dire straits from Newcastle. The north easts culture is endless
I saw them in munich. Great show. Queens and PR iss much more harder than with freddy. so it's a new part in the queen history. Hammer to fall was so cool there
if you dont like it why on earth have you been to two concerts? but youre right...it is just all a matter of personal taste...personally i tnink theyre fantastic, and yes i was also at a concert,it was the best ive ever been to,
Incredible how a song can work well in different versions...and also very playable for Brian May-worshippers with a more limited guitar technique, like me :)))
@JordanJ39 Not wrong. I took my own son and a newly acquired foster son to see this concert in Sheffield. Josh had never before been to a rock concert. He moaned a bit that his ears were ringing!! And I was staggered at Paul Rodgers' performance. Gotta be a bit scary trying to fill Freddie's shoes. But he did it superbly. Overall the sound was far more bluesy/rocky and sleazy. If anything, I thought the show was better than ever.

It's a shame that Paul left the band, I like his style and voice

Awesome introduction at a slower pace and a great collaboration with Paul Rodgers.
brilliant - always know whats gonna happen at 02.28 but it always sends shivers down my spine !
Me too! What a song!
The band is still so tight but I can't help but to keep expecting Freddie to come bolting across the stage. RIP Sir Freddie
this version just shows how good brian may is - he re worked a true rock classic and made a power ballad.

what an amazing version of this song well done paul rodgers!!
Paul Rogers is the greatest singer ive ever heard and ive seen a lot of bands.

I was so happy for this tour in the US.. finally got a chance to see half of Queen live...Paul Rodgers.

I like how Brian smiles admiringly during Paul’s voice in the 1st verse…Allegedly Brian often suggested Freddie “do something more PR.”
Brian also said Freddie thought Paul was the best rock singer of their generation.

Oh every night, and every day
A little piece of you is falling away
But lift your face the Western way
Build your muscles as your body decays, yeah
Tow the line and play their game
Yeah, let the anesthetic cover it all
'Til one day they call your name
You know it's time for the hammer to fall
Rich or poor or famous
For your truth it's all the same
(Oh no, oh no)
Oh, lock your door but rain is pouring
Through your window pane
(Oh no)
Hey yeah, baby, now your struggle's all in vain, yeah
For we who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the Mushroom Cloud
Convinced our voices can't be heard
We just wanna scream it louder and louder and louder
What the hell are we fighting for?
Ah, just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
Yeah, while you're waiting for the hammer to, hammer to fall
Hey, yes
Let's get on the floor, yeah
Hammer

Hammer to fall
Yeah
Hey, woo hoo
Ha ha, ha ha
