  • The cricket world reacted with shock and outrage to revelations of Australia’s premeditated attempt to cheat against South Africa and the English newspapers have had a field day on their backpages.
    Australian cricket was landed in its biggest crisis for years when Cameron Bancroft was caught by television cameras trying to scuff up the ball with tape. He hid the tape down his trousers when questioned by the umpires, who did not change the ball.
    But in an extraordinary end-of-play press conference Bancroft admitted ball-tampering and Smith revealed it was the idea of the team management during the lunch break.

    I'm Australian. The team's an embarrassment. They constantly abuse other teams and use 'sledging' (ie; bad sportsmanship) to gain advantages in games. The only surprise about this, is that that haven't been caught earlier.

      fcukugimmeausername I am more than 150 % sure that this is not the first time Smith and co. tried to cheat. Only difference is this time, they were caught red handed. What do you do when ur caught red-handed? Apologize. So I also see no virtue in Smith owning up to the mistake. England series as well Bancroft was seen keeping sugar crystals in pocket. Any guess what that might have been used for ? Also how about the 'brain fade' incident in india. This was a planned cheating and disgraceful. I feel for the Australian people who are such good ambassador for world sport. Also I think both Warner and Smith will loose IPL captaincy for sure and maybe banned from this season as well.

      Gareth Mason What's really disappointing is that it was planned and it was the captain that okayed for this to happen! A one match ban is not enough punishment for what he did!
      Steve Smith would have gone down in history as one of Australia's best ever batsmen, but in one split moment he's gone from a national hero to a cheat! Embarrassing!
      As for Warner, he whinges and complains about other people and yet he's ok with cheating! He's an idiot!

    Hello G-Man,
    all the way from India !! I whole-heartedly agree with your view!! There used to be a time when i loved the Aussie team, but with the years going by, its just turned into disgust !! Steve Smith is a cry baby whose brain fades whenever the team is in trouble !! He did that here when he was in India and now this utmost stupid act of ball tampering..asking a player who has barely played 8-9 Test Matches do this childish act (I guess Steve didnt have the balls to do it himself).Steve,Warner,Bancroft and Leahman( I think he will turn out to be the mastermind) ..all of them should say goodbye to cricket !! And Steve Smith if you do have the balls, You need to apologise to your fellow Australians..forget the cricketing world..No one likes you !!

  • @EndlessANARCHY

    Well said Ball tampering is only a grade two offence and i think that the reason this has all blown out is because australia holds itself in such high moral standards and are quick to point fingers at or indirectly accuse other opponents for suspect behavior .
    The Australian cricket board is and i think the biggest culprit in causing such toxic behavior in the australian squad. A perfect example would be when Hansie Cronje who got banned for life and made an example of by the South African Cricketing Body for giving information to bookies.
    When in fact Shane warne and Mark Waugh did the same thing and all they got was a small slap on the wrist from the ACB giving the players a sense of not being accountable for their behavior .
    The real blame should be on the Australian cricket board for allowing such behavior to take place by not sanctioning players and not being more aggressive on indiscretions in the past .

    • @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN
      @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN  6 лет назад

      Hey Grant, thanks so much for the comment, yeah I agree ACB needs to be stricter with there players, however, I feel Hansie's punishment was a bit hard, but agree with your point. Thanks for watching.

  • @theflyingdropbear2009

    As an Australian, I agree, this series I feel means nothing now, regardless of who wins the series (more than likely South Africa), these guys should have known better.
    they don't need to cheat, they are good enough, a solid batting line-up, a powerful bowling unit, great fielders, it isn't just the planning that makes it worse, it's fact that these guys are talented players, that's the worst part.

    • @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN
      @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN  6 лет назад

      I am optimistic about this situation, I think Cricket will become a better game because of this, maybe we needed something like this to change cricket for the better. Australia is a cricketing superpower, the other two being India and England and even those two teams were never free of controversy.
      As for the Australian Cricket team, they will recover, it will just take time before things get better for them, right now and for the foreseeable future, the team will need to wear the stigma of what transpired over the weekend, maybe we will see a change in the culture of the Australian cricket team, remove sledging, but keep a certain amount of banter, bullying opposing players has to go, cronyism needs to be removed from the team, the win at all costs attitude has to be dropped quickly and the venom that seems to be running deep within the team.
      it will take years, but I think we will see a more competitive Australian team with much to prove, but a much fairer Australian cricket team, that will one day regain the respect of the cricketing fans, including the fans here in Australia.

  • @stephenedwards9857

  • @standenberg
    @standenberg 6 лет назад +1

    The irony of it all is prior to the recent Ashes series, Nathan Lyon was one of many Aussies who got involved with disrespectful Trash Talking & said Australia were gonna end a few English players careers. Warner et al should now be finished in International cricket.
    Smith didn't even apologise to South Africa...which sums him up. The ICC are pathetic too, the rules need to be updated & cheats need to be punished severely.

  • @scooterboy1949

  • @marioscoccia438
    @marioscoccia438 6 лет назад +2

    I do feel that it is time that the ICC takes a strong stand against this. The Aussies have been caught on many previous occasions. Virat Kohli on a recent tour of India suspected they did the same thing, but I think from what I can gather there was a lack of evidence on that tour of India. all they have done is give Kohli fire power to search for more evidence.

    The Australian bowlers got the ball to reverse swing very early at the Durban test also--that is why Vinnige Fanie asked the cameraman to follow the ball--something they were already starting to do. At the PE test Warner had his hands taped, remember. And there they also got reverse swing quite early. If this indicates what I think it does, the bowlers had to be in on the scheme. No experienced fast bowler will ever be unaware of the condition of the ball. That's their bread and butter--the condition of the ball, and the early reverse swing. And no experienced bowler will fail to notice a "faster rate of deterioration" of a cricket ball!! For these reasons I don't think we've heard the full story from the Australian team. BUT, do we know the full story about the Proteas-way of looking after the ball? Or the Indian way, or the English way, or ..... I have to be honest and say I don't think so!! On the one hand I am angry, and on the other hand I feel for those guys ***who have been caught***. BUT what about .............

    Hi Gareth, during the Ashes series I struggled to understand how the Australian bowlers could swing the ball whereas the England bowlers had a really hard time getting the ball to swing. Do you think they could have been tampering with ball during the Ashes? If so, what result could that have on future tours and matches against the Australians.

    • @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN
      @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN  6 лет назад

      Hey Frankie, Faf was punished for that and yes it was wrong but there was no meeting to arrange for it to happen. Australia's Captains planned this, they knew they precautions and still went ahead and that's why I have focused on this.
      David Warner once chirped that Australia wouldn't do something like this and he would be angry if any of his teammates did this and now he's involved that's why I'm upset. The team is quick to nail SA or make comments about us but when they are in trouble they keep quiet and hide.
      Faf publicly apologised. Steve, Warner and Coach haven't yet.

    • @frankiesullivan2099
      @frankiesullivan2099 6 лет назад

      He clearly knew what he was doing and he went ahead with those actions regardless of the consequences. Faf me once....
      Its good that you made the point clear about David Warner and he always is in the middle of everything. There is a certain air of karma, but that does not mean i am going to jump on the bandwagon of judgement. What they did was wrong again its not the end of the world.
      The whole argument of pre-planning these are adults every previous act of ball tampering required some form of planning, the fact these guys thought to do a little earlier than others. Shades of Grey.
      Smith and Bancroft did apologise, they fronted the media that evening and it was clear for all to see they were both in a really bad place. He got stripped of the captaincy in the same test. The reaction has been fierce and in from my point of view its over the top. Year long bans..
      Anyway really enjoy the stuff you are doing and consider myself a fan.

    what is the legal position for premeditated cheating?
    Aussie leadership did it to benefit the fast bowlers - fast bowlers also knew it. They took wickets because of this. should Starc's records be removed on the basis of 'collective responsibility'? do not sacrifice few to save all? on the basis of collective collusive responsibility, Australian test ban should be considered for few months? remember, Russia almost got a complete ban in the winter Olympics cheating. if cricket match is played in the Olympic village, then matter would have been serious under IOC rules.....WOULD THERE BE A LET OFF ..... IF THIS WAS DONE BY A SUBCONTINENT COUNTRY .... THINK???????? why is ICC backing away from a full investigation ..... do not leave it to aussie admin to do an investigation and sacrifice few and getaway??????OVER TO YOU ICC? ............ ANOTHER icc COVERUP

      Thanks for commenting Nuwan, let's hope the ICC take care of this situation properly.

    • @bruce33331
      @bruce33331 6 лет назад

      thanks.
      In sachin’s incident, Atherton’s incident, the Indian administration or
      the English admins were not involved. Therefore sanctions cant be imposed on
      the administration. But in the case of Russia and Australia, the confession
      from the captain gets the admin involved. Therefore, sanctions must be on the administration.
      This was what happened to Russia when a ban was imposed (later reduced) for
      drug administering. This is not a player fixing match or tampering or getting
      involved in drugs. THIS IS AN INCIDENT OF CHEATINGBY THE AUSSIE ADMIN.
      THAT IS WHY THE PRIMEMINSTER IS ALSO WORRIED. It is the ICC that should do the
      investigation on the Aussie admin. If not I do not think that ICC should be
      considered as a body that can ask for IOC admission under IOC rules.
      (... this not ball tampering... it is over...
      this is now an investigation on the admin for being part of cheating)

    For all the people who have no understanding of Cricketing history, yes over time all the great countries have ball tampered & lets not forget the great Sachin and even FAF (SA captain has received a charge on 2 accounts) this is a good read for all. (see below)
    yes Australia did ball tamper, just like many before them, but lets calm down a little, for those who dont know, you might find your country listed here!! But for the record I agree it must be stopped and dealt with harshly!!

    Actually the way the Australians have been treated by South Africans in general,we don't owe you an apology at all,especially De Kock degrading a mans family member.In Australia you never put down a mans wife or children,not sure how it runs in your country.And to think Australia is the only country in the world that has signalled it will take,''Peter Duttons words''.We will take White South Africans as refugees if they are under persecution.

    • @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN
      @GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN  6 лет назад

      Hi there, look I agree De Kock was wrong to get personal with David but Warner also needs to learn when to keep quiet, he has a bad history of this but again De Kock should of left Candice out of it. I love Australia and the people and I have Family from Aus but cheating deliberately is shocking and with all due respect Steve Smith owes every cricket fan an apology because he planned it.

    • @countdankula6672
      @countdankula6672 6 лет назад

      Yes he needs to stand down actually,the Australian people wont cop him staying on anyway but some of the comments are like their country has never been up to any skull duggery,it makes me extra cranky what they have done because the cricketing world was just waiting for something like this and it happened in the most stupidest way possible.

    • @mikaelappelblom6327
      @mikaelappelblom6327 6 лет назад

      Look I think a lot of South Africans are letting their opinions be heard, just as Australians are. I hate cheating and I have been upset in the past when South Africans have cheated. I feel sick to the stomach that the Aussies cheated, and the idea of South Africans possibly ever cheating in the future again is unthinkable, I hope it never happens... I hope we have learnt our lessons. But you know cheating is not a South African or Australian thing... it is a human thing unfortunately.
      So yes I think some of the comments are condescending and juvenile and deserve your wrath, and I understand where you are coming from. Having said that South Africans and Australians are very different types of people and none of us have the right to assume the moral high ground for ourselves and each other; even though that is exactly what is happening. What is acceptable for Australians may not be acceptable to South Africans and vice versa. So we have different ideas on what offends and does not offend, and then there are many things that we may well agree on.
      Not only that, but individuals are different as well, and so what is disgusting behaviour to some is amusing to others, this is human nature... none of us are Angels.
      So you really don't have to put up with our moral condescension and we don't have to put up with yours.
      Personally I don't think there is any doubt that Australia is a better country than South Africa... currently anyway, and while I have never personally been to Australia, I have family there and it seems like an awesome place; and I will be first in line to find refuge there if it comes to that :) And I promise I will be nice... not South African like ;)

    Aussie, u r 5 times wc champion. U r the greatest team, so y cheat? U can win without cheating. Also i m tired of aus vs nz vs vs sa vs eng. y make cricket inclusive to few teams and not exclusive. Y dont we see more games against bangladesh, Zimbabwe and west indies. Need to get rid of this 2 tier mentality if cricket is to prosper. Imagine, someone from bangladesh doing the same thing, the cricketing world would go crazy.

      I would hope some very strict action be taken in lieu of Australia hosting the common wealth games this year. They dont want the entire sports fraternity suspecting them.
      Anyways Australians cricketers have a tendency to go overboard, specially when their skills aren't helping them, which surely have diminished over the years
