If you are on a tourist VISA (i.e. not permanent resident, QRP, etc.), you need to book in a BTB approved property and there is hotel tax of 9% added.

I am not sure about the answer for long term rentals. For short term though, you would be a tourist staying in a BTB property so those would have the 9% tax. For long term, I would inquire with the property manager of any property you are interested in. Just let me know which one through email to lhinvesting@gmail.com
Hello Linda my wife and I are moving to Belize this summer. Ideally we would like to be on the Island of Ambergris Caye, but I am uncertain if we can get our truck to the island as we are driving from Canada. The second option would be to rent in Placencia initially until we get settled, then look at buying or building on Ambergris Caye. Ince our home sells and we get our closing date I would like to rent a place for 12 months prior to our arrival in Belize so we have a place once we arrive. Is this something you can help us with?

Ambergris does not allow trucks (other than people in construction that need them). Most people drive golf carts. In Placencia, we have a truck my Finance drove down from Edmonton last year.
