  • Powerful scene from the 1989 sci-fi horror movie The Fly 2 (1989). In this scene, a furious Martin (Eric Stoltz) breaks into the records room and finds a videotape of Beth and himself having sex. But, Martin also discovers another videotape of his deceased father Seth (Jeff Goldblum) whose face is lumpy and discoloured. Martin learns Seth didn't die from a rapid aging disease and that he had got fused with a fly in a Telepod experiment and he became a mutant creature called Brundlefly. Bartok (Lee Richardson) enters the records room and tells Martin that he will soon undergo the same transformation like Seth and that he intends to expose his transformation and the Telepods in his plot for world domination. A angry and hurt Martin exits the records room and flees and Bartok orders Scorby and the guards to stop Martin escaping from the complex. Amazing acting by Eric Stoltz.

Bartok was really aiming to have his cake and eat it, too. He gets Martin as the first of the new species, and he gets perfected teleportation and "biological exploration" which his company could then make a fortune on and get full credit for. What a screw job. A monster creating other monsters.

Despite the sequel not being as emotionally gripping as cronenberg's movie in my opinion, I thought the sequel had impressive make-up effects like the original and even though this movie did try to copy certain things from the jeff goldblum movie like the love story, I liked it how this movie did explore the company that Seth worked for and explored the cure for Martin's mutation!

It would destroy the whole story if Martin in his immature state of mind at this point, would be taken in awe by how his "dad" tells him he's going to become the most awesome monster in the world, and getting all prideful and accommodating about it. He's a child in adult form you know. LOL!

Why is this movie so underrated? This scene alone is so emotional. Imagine how Martin must have felt, having learned the truth on why he was always so different from other humans, why he was aging so fast, and why he was beginning to turn into a fly-human hybrid. And then he had to learn that the one he looked up and loved like a father, had manipulated him ever since he was born just so he could study him and use him just to get rich. One can only imagine how much angst, sorrow and anger Martin felt upon learning that all he ever believed in was a lie.
Again, why is this movie so underrated?

I remember when I first saw this movie and I saw this scene. It was really heartbreaking because of the fact that Martin trusted someone who he loved like a father figure since he was born and was just using him for genetic experiments because of his fly human hybrid genes that he got from his father Seth Brundle. And then on top of that seeing his actual biological father in that video already transforming into a mutant hybrid fly, must’ve been a real shocker for him.

I think it was by Bartok saying to Martin about a new age of Biological exploration. Sounds to me like a new species of lifeform by using Martin as the prototype. I think that what Bartok meant by then using such life forms to control the world. How the telepods would be used to create such creatures I don’t know. Telepods obviously transport matter and objects I don’t know how it would create matter. I’m nerd lol have seen this movie many times over the years I have it on DVD which I bought in 2007.
