***ADDITIONAL INFO, CLARIFICATIONS, AND CORRECTIONS*** I knew this guide was going to be a bit long, but here are a few more bits I think you should have that didn't get included (or were unintentionally omitted). ***CAVES in Single Player and Don't Starve Together*** The caves are a GREAT place to spend the summer in both Reign of Giants and in Don't Starve Together. In both games, the caves have no smoldering or wildfires during the summer, and in Don't Starve Together, the temperature never gets hot enough to make you overheat! In Reign of Giants, you can still overheat in the caves, but the caves provide an effective insulation (meaning you warm up slower) that is equivalent to you wearing a Tier 3 clothing item such as a Floral Shirt. Combine that with actual insulation clothing and you can go a LOOONNNNGGG time in the caves before needing to cool down. Additionally, the bonus insulation you get from Dusk and Night is also still present! ***DUSK AND NIGHT*** Speaking of Dusk and Night, during the summer the temperatures are generally hottest during the day, a little bit cooler during dusk, and a bit cooler still during night. In the middle of summer dusk and night will still be hot enough to cause wildfires and overheating, but they also provide you with some bonus insulation. During dusk you get an additional 60 heat resistance (the same as a Tier 1 Straw Hat) and during the night, you get an additional 120 heat resistance (the same as a Tier 2 Umbrella). Combine those bonuses with your actual summer clothing, and maybe even skip the day and cool off with a Siesta Lean-to, and it will be even easier to make it though Summer fast! ***SIESTA LEAN-TO*** I forgot to mention in the video that you also get healed for 60 HP when you use the Siesta Lean-to. Also, when hammering (most) items you get half the crafting materials, rounded up, back from the structure. So for the Siesta Lean-to you get 2 boards, 1 silk, and 2 (out of the three used to craft it) rope when you hammer it, regardless of how many times it was used. And if you REALLY want to skip through summer fast, go ahead and use a Tent or Straw Roll to skip the dusk and night - just make sure you have plenty of food to fill your belly! In Don't Starve Together you can't skip time the way you do in single player, but these structures can still be used to provide shelter from the heat and other perks over time as they are used, rather than instantaneously. ***FASHION MELON AND ICE CUBE*** So here's my gripe with the wiki articles for these two items, which is basically a case of providing (I'm assuming) true information that isn't very helpful. Specifically, the wiki article states that the Fashion Melon "provides a cooling effect of 55°" and that the Ice Cube " provides a cooling effect of 40°" but never explains what that information DOES for you in practical terms. In this case, as far as I know, they basically act as a temperature source of 55 and 40 degrees, respectively, with the colder temperature of the Ice Cube being better. I'm not sure how exactly the game determines YOUR temperature when there are multiple temperature sources active, but it basically is a factor of the ambient temperature as well as whatever cooling sources are in effect. Or something like that. Moral of the story, these items just aren't very good, especially on REALLY hot summer days. ***DRAGONFLY DESPAWNING*** If you put the Dragonfly to sleep, one way to gauge how far you have to get away from her to make her despawn is to listen to her snoring sound. Once the sound goes away, she should be despawned. If the dragonfly kills you, she will most likely despawn as well. Assuming of course that your touchstone or meat effigy is sufficiently far away from her. If you die right next to your resurrection point or had a Life Giving Amulet on, she'll still be there! ***DRAGONFLY WITHOUT BARRIERS*** The dragonfly can also be fought without using fires or boulders to block her movement, but it is much harder. Because she moves while doing her swipe attack, it is very hard to dodge the hit unless you have some major speed boosts like an overcharged WX-78 or Coffee from Shipwrecked. So be sure to bring LOTS of extra armor! You can avoid the ground slam attacks though, but will need to be mindful of fire damage. In general, you'll want to go in close and hit her twice while she hits you with the swipe attack, then move away slightly to reset the fire damage, then do two more hits before running away to avoid the ground slam, rinse and repeat. I used this method in my Wagstaff playthrough episode and it is much harder that way. ----- And that's all I can think of for now, though I may add more details if I think of anything. Cheers!!
You can do a similar method on Ancient Guardian to get up to 8 hits with mag and club, I believe. Dfly stutter stepping is really fun when you get used to the timing. 2 hit back away 1 hit dodge, if my memory is good
@@MakusinMeringue Yup - though in DST the Guardian will break the campfires I believe. I usually either blow him up with 13 gunpowder or take Rock Lobsters down to do the heavy lifting, as well as help out with clockworks and dangling depths dwellers. I generally find DFly without barricades to be much trickier. I always have a hard time maintaining a consistent pattern and end up taking way too much damage!
I just wanted to say that I fucking love your tutorials. They are so helpfull and at the same time really entertaining, It's that kind of video you watch over and over again and it's like It's your first time watching. Great job!
The best way to start summer is on the last day of winter you find a heat trap, think "ah ha! I've seen this winter trap before, i know to only open the icebox" and then suddenly it's summer and you have only prepared for the cold and wet. .
Thank you for making single player tutorials. Many of us just hate DST and its mechanics, especially new crop farming and bunny nerf. That said, I think it is worth mentioning that it makes sense to surround the core of your base with some Lureplant (on hard surface so they spawn no eyes) and protect them with Flingos instead (saves you on Flingo maintenance and coverage). Smoldering priority works reliably in ROG. Dragontails can also be important in single player - you want at least one scale armor if you plan on using yourself as a bait in fire farm against the hounds (or Varg farming in general).
Yeah, I thought about including some information about lureplants luring fire during summer, but overall felt that the video was already getting a bit long and that smoldering manipulation like that was more of an advanced topic. Same with fire farms - that's a pretty niche use that is well beyond just surviving a year in-game. But very excellent points!!
I just hate how the giants' stats are ramped up even if you play DST in single player, making them so much harder to handle! I'd enjoy playing it alone but I'm going to have to think about some alternative methods, especially getting the Deerclops eyeball. What have they done to bunnies?
@@Fledhyris Bunnies used to be extremely easy to farm as long as you had one carrot: feed it to a bunnyman, tell him to attack others, he'll get killed and drop a carrot, rinse and reapeat. In DST the bunnymen drops got nerfed, you only have 33% chance of getting a carrot iirc.
I just have to say I'm so grateful for all your guides. My last run I hit day 46 and managed to defeat both Deerclops and Moose/Goose. Hoping to reach Summer in my next run!
Amazing tutorial as always. Thanks so much for putting so much effort into these. Truly the best DS content out there. P.S. Getting even with Willow for past pyromania incidents I see. Very valid. 😂🔥
Hugely informative, when I first started playing I thought Winter was the absolute worst, but I have now experienced the hell that is Summer. Thanks for the survival tips, will be making a forward Summer camp in the caves from now on :)
Hahaha - that is SOOO TRUE!! I remember that as well, struggling the first couple of winters, finally feeling good about making it to spring, then getting my ass handed to me the first few days of summer. Ahhhhh good times!
I got all the way to summer for the first time only to die from overheating 3 times xD Was heading to the caves and forgot to grab the most important thing from my main base (nitre) and then got interrupted by hounds when I was going back for it after being resurrected. I'll definitely prepare better next time! Although the Deerclops nor Moose Goose showed up so I didn't have to fight those to make it to summer. Still haven't taken them down yet, but they haven't spawned since I've gotten more comfortable managing other survival stuff. Your videos have helped a ton, though! Thank you!
Sounds like a pretty typical Don't Starve experience!! 😁 Having the giants spawn is actually really nice. The Eyebrella is GREAT for both spring and summer, and the Luxury Fan is great for cooling off and putting out fires when it's hot out. Short of those, your next best bet for emergency cooling off (in addition to endothermic fires when you might want to stay put for a bit) is the chilled amulet. Prior to making this video I honestly hadn't used it that much, but it really does work pretty well!
Comment to help the algorithm! But came across your first ever video on DS Guide and found everything amazing. Voice, on-screen text (type, orientation, size), background, sound effects, and seeing the time-stamps is greatly appreciated, and the light humour 😊.
Just in time for my own playthrough! Thank you for your continued effort towards this series, each episode is incredibly easy to digest and that's something I can't say about most RUclips guides. :)
i have been playing dst for a while and recently started playing reign of giants and the fact that its possible for summer to be your 2nd season is absolutely terrifying
Hi Salendrak, I've really appreciated your beginner's guides starting as a new player and have watched some of them several times, like the fighting video and the winter and spring videos. I would love it if you also could eventually cover the caves which can be intimidating for newbies like myself! :) Thanks again for making these guides.
Yeah, the games are similar in lots of ways, but also different in lots of ways. Especially if you're playing alone (which obviously is the only way to play single player LOL) the single player game just feels more solid gameplay wise. No lag, more responsive controls. Always feels a bit weird when I switch back and forth.
I've just binged all your DST videos. I was looking for something that can easily explain all the princeples and main mechanics for my not so much of a gamer boyfriend. He gets quite confused with all the pro terms, inside jokes and gets discouraged. However this, this is DST 101 for dummies. Thank you Sir, for making my life soooo much easier, as I do believe after watching the whole series he will be much more independent. Oh and please do not stop making videos, they are really fun to watch, I'm sure it's just a matter of time this channel will become big. Good luck ☆
Now this right here is the type of comment that really makes my day. THANKS!! 😊 There's definitely a LOT to learn about in this game, but overall nothing in particular is all that complicated once you get the basics down. Keep me posted on how you and your boyfriend do in your adventures in the Constant!!
Not debunking salendraks very good guide (good job btw u went into lots of detail and it was very entertaining) summer can be easily survived by moving in the caves to avoid the summer heat u can bring a spider egg from a tier 3 den and Berry bushes for easy meatballs and pre craft a chest ice box and alchemy engine this making summer easy, you can also escape hounds by doing this and dragonfly in my opinion dragon and ant lion loot really isn’t too good compared to other raid and seasonal bosses (unless your playing with friends) and your better off chillin in the caves farming glowberries or maybe even ruins rushing. But i digress good job man
Psssst - I think you forgot to check my pinned comment! 😆 But you're totally right! Only reason I didn't go over that sort of stuff is that I haven't covered caves yet, but when I do, I will certainly extoll the benefits of spending the summer down in the caves.
Caves are great in summer because they give yoy something to do - there's always plenty of activity you can be doing (collecting gems and gears and trinkets) while its too hot on the surface. The only problem is that you can accidentally miss Dragonfly since you don't get notification of her spawning when you're in Caves. So you have to make a trip outside at least once a day to check. In single player her spawn timer is not consistent, she might not even spawn at all if you're unlucky.
Thank you so much for this guide, summer has been rough in my gameplay and this helped a ton. Next I am trying the tame of a beefalo soI will have to search your Wagstaff play to see what you did!
I remember one vifeo where Joeschmocoolstuff was kiting Dragonfly with no exploits with just walking cane and road. No, it wasn't DST. That guy was a legend.
You should totally try the fire-block method at some point though. Or just despawn Dfly LOL. But using gunpowder all the time is gonna use up a LOT of nitre over time!
Hi! I am a massive fan of this tutorial series. It has helped me get started in this amazing game. I would like to ask whether do you have any plans on doing a shipwrecked tutorial series too? Thank you so much for the effort you have put in thus far
Yup - once I'm done with this RoG series I'll move on to Shipwrecked. Not sure how soon that will happen, but I'm guessing it'll be this summer, or maybe fall at the latest 👍
Yup Murphy got me I set up a summer base and I went to plant a spider den away from base to farm silk outside of main base but in that time a smolder happened as soon as I left and burned every single part of my plants bees and trees except a few berry bushes. Curse you Murphy
Tip: the rocky biome is good to base in summer to because nothing can burn plus there are a lot of rocks gold and more for making the endothermic campfires you need.
I prefer desert for the cactus, but Rockyland does also work, particularly if there are tallbirds and spiders around for food. If you dig up the turf in your base you can plant trees and whatnot, and of course use that turf to make your own cobblestone turf too!
@@salendrak I make my base in the desert for the cactus but my base gets to big to make even a summer base there so the rockyland plus that sink hole is just what I need
I feel like wildfire is exactly why people hate summer in this game. Winter makes sense. It's cold. Wear good clothes, warm up by the fire. Summer: EVERYTHING KEEPS CATCHING FIRE.
Hahah - thanks! The way I see it, there were never really any good guides back in the day when the game was no, and I certainly don't have any competition now!
14:23 Just play with Shipwrecked enabled. Even if you don't travel between worlds, the Luxury Fan in SW won't cool you past a certain lower bound (I think 0 degrees)
Good to know! I haven't really played Shipwrecked much for a while, and didn't know / remember that. Is that the case for linked worlds when you're on the RoG side of things?
@@salendrak Yes. I don't really play SW much anymore (I'm kinda over the poison mechanic) but I always play RoG with it enabled specifically for this reason
@@salendrak I haven’t touched Dont Starve in a hot minute so this series was great to listen to again! I finally made it to 74 days! Thank you again for this series :)
I lost my 138 day character due to summer and the hound attacks. Probably because I had stayed in a seperate base rather than actually living in the main base. It was a pretty good run though, will do it again. (Hopefully I can get pass through summer again)
HOLY CRUD! Thank you for the info. Summer used to be my killer, but now with eyebrella's and gunpowder, i can survive and kill the dragonfly >=D Thanks!
I better like the dragonfly fight without cheese or stucking her, I did it with willow and it was really fun. Also, I told you that the chilled amulet is the best summer item! And, you forget to mention the caveman method, but thats not bad, this video was long enough :)
Check the pinned "more info" comment! But yeah, the video would have been really long if I'd included caves in this one, but I'll talk about it more in the caves / ruins guide video. And yeah, you're totally right about the chilled amulet - it's great! I like the Luxury Fan better overall I think, but if you haven't gotten a Moose Goose yet then chilled is a great option!
Can you make your own ash (burning twigs and stuff) and place it near the Dragonfly for her to eat? That way, she wouldn't wander around burning stuff and you could easily put her to sleep by placing a stack of 20 ashes on the ground!
Absolutely!! Though I've noticed that this only seems to work once, and only if she hasn't gotten mad yet. But if you do it early on, you can absolutely feed her 20 ash you've prepared ahead of time, and it will knock her out cold!
To make flower salad you can use 3 red mushrooms, adding literally 92 HP because 3 red mushrooms are - 60 HP, add 8 and you get - 52. Then the salad is 40 HP so 52+40=92, gaining 92 HP from the starting ingredients.
I generally only count red caps as zero value fillers, since there is never a situation where you would eat them alone either cooked or raw. But yeah, technically they can be used for the salad. Good luck finding any in the desert though!!
Are you considering making a guide to handling Bearger? I'm pretty sure you can feed him honey and he will sleep (and despawn?) much like Dragonfly with ashes, I've done something like that with him in the past, but your guides on the other three giants are so comprehensive it would be really cool to see how you take on the big cuddly!
Yeah, I do need to cover him at some point. He kind of got missed as fall is generally super easy and doesn't really need a guide of its own, but Bearger on the other hand. Well, let's just say you don't want him to get stuck in your kitchen! 😆
For a mini-guide on Bearger, check out the Wagstaff episode, "The Second Fall", which has a Bearger fight with some explanation for how it goes. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/8UHN0HnBjk8/видео.html
🤭I JUST LITTERALY NOW KILLED THE DRAGONFLY😯 Like really I’m not kidding I’m still shocked😂💕 Thank you a lot salendrak with your help I officially survived my first year and defeated two of the seasonal bosses (unfortunately deerclops didn’t show up😆) your work really helped me out and I just wanted to thank you💕💕💕
The first 1/2 minute lol. Naughty arsonist girl got what she deserved for her misbehaviour in your Hamlet stream :) And a nice guide of course. Learned a few new tips even as a long-time player.
Hey, great video, I love it. I've heard that lureplants have a special property that makes them the top priority to catch wildfires in summer. Is it also the case in reign of giants? Or is it just a DST thing? I wonder if it can be used to fix the Morphy's law problem.
im near springs end. and i didnt find mosee goose. i have a caves base ready. the problem is that i have NO ICE since i had many problems at winter and only afforded for 1 ice flingomatic. idk iff caves are enought to sustain me trought summer. What next step should i do to survive?
Caves are totally fine for summer! Mushrooms are a great source of food (blue as food raw, others as filler if needed), there are ponds you can fish in, and plenty of mobs you can fight. Just make sure you have ways to cool yourself off when needed, such as endothermic fire / firepits, ice-box cooled thermal stones, and maybe a chilled amulet for on the go cooling.
Fun fact i start my very first base on desert because idk I like cacti at all andin my second world I end up losing 90 per sent of my base (I base near a grave yard because its mach to wedy)
@@salendrak yeah that kinda is a good idea because then summer becomes alot less scary than it was srsly the first time i got to summer i just switched to hamlet so that my base wouldn't burn down
Wait so, if we move and make a mini base- does that stop our main base from catching fire? Or is there a chance for when we go back to our main base everything will be burned down from the spontaneous fires?
Pretty much! Wildfires can only happen in a limited area around your character. So long as you are far enough away from your main base whenever it is warm enough for wildfires to happen, there will be no chance for your base to burn down!
20:20 i did that and the dragonfly survived and She didn't even woke up! I used 19 gunpowder too... i put her to sleep again and i let her despawn after...
Are smoldering events more common is solo don't starve? I've only experienced summer in DST and I only had to put out two or three smoldering items throughout the entire season, but in this video things are bursting into flames non stop
I'm not sure if they're more or less common, but in single player fires spread almost instantly, so they're far more dangerous. Whereas in DST if a fire breaks out, the adjacent items smolder before bursting into flames, so there's more time to stop the spread.
@@salendrak yeah. I started playing on my world again after over a year and didn’t know how far into spring I was. I play on Xbox now so I don’t have the mod that tells me what part of the season I’m in anymore
Ah yes I started in spring I am doing a good job day 16 with 4 crockpot and 2 boxes 10 chest no ice flingomatic the question is if iam in the oasis or volt goat biomes will my base can caught on wildfires? As wolfgang
If you're in the DST Oasis, then no, there won't be any wildfires. I'm pretty sure that anywhere you see the sandstorm will also be protected, but everywhere else you'll have to wear the Desert Goggles in order to see and move somewhat normally. I can't recall if the volt goats only spawn in one or the other deserts of DST though, so not sure on that one...
Actually, idk if this is true, but if you don't have a flingo and your stuff catch on fire, you can go off screen and it'll only catch on fire on that item/structure only I did it before because my crock pot was on fire and I simply just went away and my base was fine lol Tho someone that knows can fact check me
I did a little bit of testing with that while preparing to make the video, but wasn't able to get consistent results. The general theory is that if you can get the smoldering object to become "unloaded" then it should stop the smoldering from progressing to fire, and stop fire from spreading to other objects. But one of the tests I did was to place a sign right next to a planted lure plant. The lure plant has the highest priority and will always smolder before anything else. As soon as it started smoldering I ran away, and when I came back the next day, the plant was fine, and the sign was burnt! So rather than suggesting running away and playing with fire (hahah - see what I did there) I decided to leave that section out of the video. Best bet - stop a smolder on anything you don't want to burn / spread, and protect whatever you really want to protect with a single flingo 👍
I used to play all dont starves on pc years ago and have recently gone back to it; but on console and with only base game. And it’s really hard to know what I can and can’t do, every time I look up what I need it gives me “don’t starve together” answers. Do I not have these things because I don’t have ROG? Or can I just not find them? 🥶 thank you I’m on my 12th day of summer and it’s looking really hot and I’m not sure what to do, but I know to stay away from my base!
Yeah, if you're looking on the wiki it's important to distinguish between what items and recipes are available on which version(s) of the game. It's mostly a matter of understanding exactly which version you're playing on. Anything on the wiki that doesn't have your versions symbol won't be available. Hope that helps! (it's kind of hard to explain lol)
I always kill her with ash and gunpowder. I don't know why but I just have never managed to put two endorthermic fire pits as close together as needed so she can't get through xD I'm just to stupid for that But great guide like always :) Have you ever tried to stay inside a Slanty Shanty during Summer? I wonder how Klei implemented the houses function with the summer burning function :D
What's a slanty shanty and how do I build one?! 😆 I kid - but no, I've never done that because I've never gotten that far in Hamlet! Do you play on PC or console? On PC it's all about carefully moving your mouse up until it turns red, then carefully moving it back down until you can just barely make it. I've only messed it up once that I can think of, but manage to run away enough to then drop a third fire below the bottom one after she dropped aggro.
@@salendrak I play both. I have DS (all DLCs) and DST on Steam but I also have DS (all DLCs) on Nintendo Switch. Even though the PC version is superior in most regards (no single attack button, but two for hostile/ forced attacks, so I don't hit chester when I want to hit nightmares/spiders), the possibility to have one item on cursor at all times, mods.... but I still tend to play more often on Switch because I can chillax in bed while doing so xD But neither on PC nor on Switch I managed it so far :D But I alway tried it with the big endothermic fire pits not the small ones. Could it be that that makes a differences? Is it easier with the small ones?
@@sera-chan8194 Not sure - I've only ever done it with the small ones since the big ones take SOOO much more resources to make. I can totally see how placement would be harder on the Switch though - one of the reasons I don't play games like this on consoles LOL
@@salendrak I can see that one may be reluctant to do the big ones, but I thought I'm building a permanent "dragonfly fighting area" in the dessert (with road turf on the ground) for every summer :D
Not sure I completely understand the question, but if you are in Vanilla there are just two seasons that alternate. Summer (which is the same as Autumn in Reign of Giants) and Winter. In Reign of Giants, the seasons go in order of Autumn, Winter, Spring, and then Summer. If you start in Spring, then it goes to Summer next and continues in the usual order. But yes, Summer will always be after spring. Unless you trigger a trap that skips you straight to summer, which can happen!
I can be done, but is much more difficult. You'll still want to hit her once to trigger her ground slam attack, then hit her twice, move away to reset the fire damage, then hit her two more times. It's really hard to dodge her swipe attack though, so definitely bring EXTRA EXTRA armor!
I haven't watched this video when it was already summer on my world, so I didn't think of making a second base. By the time a watched this, Summer was almost over.. I'm a little proud of surviving 80 Days haha without dying, a little because I couldn't kill Btw what should I do now? Should I prepare for Winter again?
Yup - prepare for future seasons, continue building up your base, explore the world, delve into the dark arts, and when you're ready, tackle the caves and ancient ruins! Plenty to do to keep you entertained!!
Doh!! Though to be fair, rebuilding is certainly possible. Burnt structures can still be hammered to recover half of the original ingredients (rounded down). Though flammable contents that also burned...well, at least you'll have plenty of ashes?
Nope - spring start! On default settings, Reign of Giants randomly starts you in either Spring or Autumn, and getting blue gems if you have a spring start can be pretty tricky since you won't have seen any blue hounds before your first summer.
I mean this game isn't that difficult to play,I can easily survive for ever. the only thing that makes me quit my world after surviving my first 2 or 3 years is I get bored of playing when I reach the point of which I have done and built every thing possible(even fire farm and krampus farm etc...)
Oh I totally hear you - after a year or three I tend to get bored as well. Hence the reason I set out a couple of objectives ahead of time to make sure I stick around to complete all of those. Also, world linking can be a lot of fun too!
***ADDITIONAL INFO, CLARIFICATIONS, AND CORRECTIONS***
I knew this guide was going to be a bit long, but here are a few more bits I think you should have that didn't get included (or were unintentionally omitted).
***CAVES in Single Player and Don't Starve Together***
The caves are a GREAT place to spend the summer in both Reign of Giants and in Don't Starve Together.
***DUSK AND NIGHT***
Speaking of Dusk and Night, during the summer the temperatures are generally hottest during the day, a little bit cooler during dusk, and a bit cooler still during night.
***SIESTA LEAN-TO***
I forgot to mention in the video that you also get healed for 60 HP when you use the Siesta Lean-to.
***FASHION MELON AND ICE CUBE***
So here's my gripe with the wiki articles for these two items, which is basically a case of providing (I'm assuming) true information that isn't very helpful.
***DRAGONFLY DESPAWNING***
If you put the Dragonfly to sleep, one way to gauge how far you have to get away from her to make her despawn is to listen to her snoring sound.
***DRAGONFLY WITHOUT BARRIERS***
The dragonfly can also be fought without using fires or boulders to block her movement, but it is much harder.
-----
And that's all I can think of for now, though I may add more details if I think of anything. Cheers!!
Thanks for the extra info :)

Old Don't Starve players: Summer doesn't exist, it can't hurt you
Summer in RoG:
I survived from fall to spring, now comes summer, thanks for making guides, they are very helpful!
Awesome! Keep it up and soon you'll be surviving multiple years no sweat!
I just wanted to say that I fucking love your tutorials. They are so helpfull and at the same time really entertaining, It's that kind of video you watch over and over again and it's like It's your first time watching. Great job!
D'awwww thanks!! 😊
The best way to start summer is on the last day of winter you find a heat trap, think "ah ha! I've seen this winter trap before, i know to only open the icebox" and then suddenly it's summer and you have only prepared for the cold and wet. .
Those traps be tricky like that!
In DST the bunnymen drops got nerfed, you only have 33% chance of getting a carrot iirc.
dst has so much more stuff to it tho
I just have to say I'm so grateful for all your guides. My last run I hit day 46 and managed to defeat both Deerclops and Moose/Goose. Hoping to reach Summer in my next run!
Awesome! Hopefully you'll make it through summer and get to your 2nd fall, and then it'll be smooth sailing after that. Keep me posted!!
Amazing tutorial as always. Thanks so much for putting so much effort into these. Truly the best DS content out there.
P.S. Getting even with Willow for past pyromania incidents I see. Very valid. 😂🔥
Muaahahahah - I love it when viewers recognize what I do in one video as a follow-up to a prior video 😁
Perfect timing. I was just trying to survive with Wilson in the Summer. Thanks for the great tips!!
Awesome - let me know how it goes!!
Having the giants spawn is actually really nice.

You should consider dubbing documentaries
Heh - I'll look into that someday!
Hi Salendrak, I've really appreciated your beginner's guides starting as a new player and have watched some of them several times, like the fighting video and the winter and spring videos. I would love it if you also could eventually cover the caves which can be intimidating for newbies like myself! :) Thanks again for making these guides.
Yup - it's on the list of guides coming soon, along with adventure mode!
@@salendrak thanks! Looking forward!
Thank you for making a single player guide as I personally don't like playing DST anymore as it feels like a totally different game.
I think I’ll still spend most of summer in the caves, but man this gives me a lot of new stuff to maybe play with when I’m feeling courageous.

Great video as always! Best Don't Starve content on the tube
D'awww - thanks!! I do my best to pack as much high-quality information as possible!
THANKS!! 😊
There's definitely a LOT to learn about in this game, but overall nothing in particular is all that complicated once you get the basics down. Keep me posted on how you and your boyfriend do in your adventures in the Constant!!
Looking forward to that cave guide now :)
Not sure if it will be the next one or not, but definitely on the horizon!!
But you're totally right! Only reason I didn't go over that sort of stuff is that I haven't covered caves yet, but when I do, I will certainly extoll the benefits of spending the summer down in the caves.

@@afoxplayz7141 Hahah - no worries! Your comment was spot on, and hopefully others see it too and go spelunking for summer! After all, Wagstaff did!!
Ummmmmm you might have to wait a few more episodes - he hasn't done it yet!

Warned ya that the chilled amuleth is a cool amuleth!
Yeah, I had never really used it much in the past. Chalk this up as another of those things I learned about just making the video!
@@salendrak according to wiki (my favourite site) she/he will wake up as soon as you get nearby. Maybe it's not true but I'm pretty trustful.

Hey, great video, I love it.
I've heard that lureplants have a special property that makes them the top priority to catch wildfires in summer. Is it also the case in reign of giants? Or is it just a DST thing? I wonder if it can be used to fix the Morphy's law problem.
I think they also take smoldering priority in RoG but don't remember for sure.
im near springs end. and i didnt find mosee goose. i have a caves base ready. the problem is that i have NO ICE since i had many problems at winter and only afforded for 1 ice flingomatic. idk iff caves are enought to sustain me trought summer. What next step should i do to survive?
Caves are totally fine for summer! Mushrooms are a great source of food (blue as food raw, others as filler if needed), there are ponds you can fish in, and plenty of mobs you can fight. Just make sure you have ways to cool yourself off when needed, such as endothermic fire / firepits, ice-box cooled thermal stones, and maybe a chilled amulet for on the go cooling.

why deal with the heat when u can sleep and skip summer which is exactly what am going to do when summer comes

@@salendrak yeah that kinda is a good idea because then summer becomes alot less scary than it was srsly the first time i got to summer i just switched to hamlet so that my base wouldn't burn down
I LIVE!
YAY!!
Isn't overheating damage slightly faster than 1 HP per second? Isn't it 75 per minute?
Hmmmm, maybe? I didn't specifically test that, but just eyeballing it guessed it was around 1 hp per second. But maybe it's more?! Not sure!

Sorry for unrelated question but are there any things to subsitute gates?

I can't recall if the volt goats only spawn in one or the other deserts of DST though, so not sure on that one...
@@salendrak no in single player ds not dst the cactus that have the shape round like your base in wagstaff first summer
I just beat my first moose goose. I dunno about the dragonfly…
Dragonfly is definitely the trickiest of all the single-player giants. Proceed with caution!
Actually, idk if this is true, but if you don't have a flingo and your stuff catch on fire, you can go off screen and it'll only catch on fire on that item/structure only
I did it before because my crock pot was on fire and I simply just went away and my base was fine lol
Tho someone that knows can fact check me
I did a little bit of testing with that while preparing to make the video, but wasn't able to get consistent results.

What's a slanty shanty and how do I build one?! 😆
I kid - but no, I've never done that because I've never gotten that far in Hamlet!
I have DS (all DLCs) and DST on Steam but I also have DS (all DLCs) on Nintendo Switch. but I still tend to play more often on Switch because I can chillax in bed while doing so xD
But neither on PC nor on Switch I managed it so far :D
But I alway tried it with the big endothermic fire pits not the small ones.
Is with default settings spring(i started with fall) will came after winter or directly summer in ROG
Unless you trigger a trap that skips you straight to summer, which can happen!
what if i tried o kill dragon just with common combat without any strategies like those
I can be done, but is much more difficult. You'll still want to hit her once to trigger her ground slam attack, then hit her twice, move away to reset the fire damage, then hit her two more times. It's really hard to dodge her swipe attack though, so definitely bring EXTRA EXTRA armor!

I approve of that method! 😆
I died from freezing
During summer?! If so - that's a neat trick! Though honestly not hard to too if you over-use a luxury fan 😆
2 Thermal Stone 2 days wow
Not sure I understand this comment...
BUT I Already based in the desert
Better start building those flingos!!
I died from monster meat as wormwood
I feel like there are probably some more...creative...ways to potentially die as Wormwood...
i tried protecting my base but it burst into flames whyyyyy
i have to start all over again and salendrak dont say i told you so
Doh!! Though to be fair, rebuilding is certainly possible. Burnt structures can still be hammered to recover half of the original ingredients (rounded down). Though flammable contents that also burned...well, at least you'll have plenty of ashes?
but my base got burned done and I died
Whose your favorite character salendrak?
Don't really have one, but am not really a fan of Wolfgang or Willow. You may have noticed that Willow got punished a lot in that episode LOL
@@salendrak thanks for the tips i love them LOL
16:20 spring start? restart
Nope - spring start! On default settings, Reign of Giants randomly starts you in either Spring or Autumn, and getting blue gems if you have a spring start can be pretty tricky since you won't have seen any blue hounds before your first summer.
@@salendrak i should probably give it a try, within my at 600 hours of RoG i have never really started in spring, i just find it a bit daunting.
I starve again
Doh!!
Murphy strikes :/
I thought about creating a religion once - the Church of Murphy. Would have been hilarious!!

Summer in Florida be like
Oh, the humidity of summer in Florida....
You could try to actually try to play the game, or spam siesta lean tos and meatballs
Whatever it takes to get out of the heat!!
