I don’t think Klei themselves could have done a better play-through/tutorial than you did with this series. You don’t understand how much you’ve taught me about this game. You are an absolute legend!
Yay - glad you liked it! I've never personally been a fan of the traditional "Let's Play" approach of playing a game and posting huge swaths of un-edited gameplay. I think edited like this provides more overall value. Plus I don't think I could think of enough stuff to say to keep it interesting / informative / entertaining for extended periods of time 😉
Exceptionally informative and fun to watch. You honestly have a very fun, unique and professional format that I entirely admire. I really will enjoy to see you use the other characters in this format as well in due time.
I just started watching your beginner series of videos, since I played Don't Starve when it first came out but not since, and I have to say I love your content. Your videos are neat and organized, your commentary is clean but still engaging, and the way you explain everything is not overbearing, which is a personal pet peeve of mine when it is. I feel like a lot of people overexplain or aren't fun to listen to. I hope your channel does well, I think you deserve it.
Wow - thanks for the feedback! It's VERY much appreciated!! One of my main goals when starting this series (and which is an extension of my personal philosophy in these games) was to show people lots of different options, steer them towards the good ones, but not unnecessarily disparage options or methods that might be sub-optimal. Because let's face it - this game has no leader-board, it's not competitive, and it's not so punishing that optimized gameplay is even remotely needed to do perfectly well. So don't worry about "optimal" gameplay - just have fun, however you as an individual are best able to accomplish that goal!
This series was a lot of fun to make, and though I personally enjoyed the format too, sadly it didn't do so well in terms of views, so not sure if I'll be doing another one anytime soon 😢
Great video - I like the in-depth commentary, and I think the format work alot better than a traditional play-and-talk. Would love to see more :). Looking forward to seeing you deal with the giants, they tend to be the end of my playthroughs at this point...
Thanks for the feedback! I debated which format to go with, and settled on this method largely because I'm not much of a talker while playing a game. And I wanted the video to be more of an informative recap rather than an exercise in stream of consciousness lol
Only yesterday, I was bemoaning the fact that it seemed to be impossible to find a DS playthrough that didn't consist mainly of screaming and unfunny jokes. This morning, I stumbled upon your tutorials (just finished binge-watching them) and now, I'm looking forward to see Wagstaff's adventures. Yours is exactly the style I was looking for but didn't hope to actually find. Points deduction for preventing me from getting back into DS myself because now I'm glued to the screen watching your content instead. Just kidding, I love it!
I used to watch hours upon hours of don't starve let's plays 10 years ago. I missed the game and youtube and glad I found yours today. Your playthrough is by far the best; good format, good knowledge, and well, very fun to watch. Thank you for the hard work
UPDATE - Looks like it's finally processed! Full HD Version should be viewable. I'm not sure what's up with the resolution - in RUclips Studio it says the HD versions are still processing, even though the upload was now 24 hours ago. Apparently it's a bug or something on RUclips's end, and seems to happen to people all the time. Sorry!!
While watching your guide I started wondering if there would be a playthrough long enough and fun enough to see all the content applied. This was so much fun to watch as a follow up.
Thanks! I suspect that this style of playthrough takes quite a bit longer to edit than the usual fare, but hopefully that makes me stand out in a good way!
I saw more stuff in this video of urs than my 30hrs playtime in game. What a godlike start u had here. I usually struggle finding flint on day one or stone in general. Liking the series. Can't wait to watch rest.
Awesome - thanks for the feedback! Yeah, this start was pretty good. But if you want to see a really godlike start, check out my Woodlegs livestream in Shipwrecked. That starting island was AMAZING!!
Episode 2 should be going up later today (finishing it up now). Be sure to share it with anyone else you know that is into Don't Starve! For some reason, most of the content creators tend to focus on Don't Starve Together, but I think there is a LOT to enjoy in the single player versions as well :)
I’ve played so much don’t starve but I still found plenty of new things to learn from your guides so figured I’d stop by and see how you play too, definitely not disappointed!
Awesome! I'm still learning new things all the time myself! And one of the many things I love about this game is there are soooooo many ways and styles of doing things, it really can be molded to suit just about anyone's personal preferences!
Yeah, I always make a science machine as soon as I have enough materials either on hand or nearby to prototype basic gear and an alchemy engine for later. It really helps!!

@@eureitz7490 Yeah, there are lots of little differences like that which take some getting used to. I play on pocket edition every now and then (mostly when I'm out of town and bored) and I always find the pausing effect whenever doing anything with my inventory to be totally annoying!
@@salendrak well, just to update; it's the vision/ brightness of my projector hurting my game play. Now I have RoG on my computer (which is a gaming machine spec'd for DAW; i7 8700K with GeForce 1050 and 64GB of RAM). I'm no good with the keyboard; but used to using the xbox controller. Probably because I've never been able to forgive her for burning down my first year-plus cave base way back in the day 😆
Salendrak yeah, thats the main reason i dont play Willow XD, also i just made a cool cave base at day 30 and i died because first charlie attacked because i forgot to bring a light and then a rock tell on my Head and i died ;-;

I'm whatching it again for the 3rd time! When is it you publish another guide (I'm still dying and don't dare go to the caves because you didn't make a guide about it!) or another part of the Wagstaff playthrough?
Regular episodes will be starting up again in a few weeks (Guides, Wagstaff, etc). It's just been really busy over the summer with my kids home all day every day. But they'll be back in school in two weeks!!
@@salendrak Oh yeah totally understand! Hope you had fun with your kids! Much more important than my tiny pleasure of watching RUclips while doing the dishes ;)
The only mods I use are a minimap mod, and Combined Status, which shows you your temperature, naughtiness, and max health, hunger, and sanity. I feel that these are mostly QoL additions and not particularly game breaking, but others might disagree with that. But I generally recommend playing the game for at least a little while first with no mods, and only adding mods that enhance your enjoyment of it. A LOT of people use a geometric placement mod that helps make perfectly spaced and straight lines of structures and whatnot, but I've honestly never used it.
I would say maybe play vanilla until you can survive a full year, and then quickly transition to RoG. Or, if you're more daring, jump straight into RoG!
I'm guessing it's something on RUclips's end. I just uploaded the video this morning and it apparently sometimes takes a while for the full HD versions to be processed. The upload was full 1080p though, so maybe try back later?
@@alexisJonius Bug on RUclips's end, I'm guessing. Based on searches I've done this seems to randomly happen to people all the time, and has been going on for several years. The render I uploaded was in full 1080p using the same software and settings as all my other videos. Hopefully the HD version will be processed soon on their end!
hey salendrak! i came back to this series because i dont see many people doing this anymore. Also, can you make a shipwrecked series? I am playing shipwrecked right now, but Im not sure what im doing
I won't be doing any more edited playthrough series like this one, but I do have a full Shipwrecked Livestream series, and an ongoing tri-linked worlds series that has Reign of Giants, Shipwrecked, and Hamlet. Check the playlists section of the channel and/or the live page 👍
Of course! These days I'm trying to get a video out every week (sometimes every other week), but depending on how busy I am with other obligations it will vary. Currently working on a Winter guide for Don't Starve, but then will switch and do some videos for Terraria before coming back to this playthrough series. But there most definitely will be more - so be sure to subscribe so you'll be notified!
A few days ago i was thinking why would anyone choose Wagstaff. Today i tried him out for the first time. He is in my opinion the best character in the game smh
I'm honestly still a bit on the fence. His nearsightedness makes you unable to use a ton of other headgear options, unless you don't mind everything being blurry. The thumper sure is nice for trees though!
Salendrak true, but other then the blurry/not seeing things just think about this like this: his battle visor or whatever protects him from a whoping 85% physical damage which is huge early game, he has a cool headgear thing that shoots laser fire things, he has a lot of hunger, he has just so much stuff and i think he really changes the way of playing DS.
This isn't a play through. This is a walk through. Reported again. Don't lie and say this is a playthrough when you talking through the game like trying to be a pro at it.
Walthroughs explain everything. Playthrough is not that. A play through doesn't understand the game. Your game play is NOT a playthrough. This is a walk through and your title is a lie. Your game play is a lie. Reported for lieing.
Ahhhh but would it be safe to say that a walkthrough is a subcategory of playthroughs or vice versa? I've personally never been aware that there was a particular distinction between the two, and I'm not sure, if any such distinction exists, if it is uniformly used across the interwebs. But maybe that's just me!
Well that was the fastest 15 minutes of my day, and absolutely delightful. I really like this style of video!

Would you recommend vanilla or Rog for newbies? I've been playing just been playing vanilla so far
I would say maybe play vanilla until you can survive a full year, and then quickly transition to RoG. Or, if you're more daring, jump straight into RoG!
@@salendrak cool I'll try that see how far I can make it got to day 24 on my best run
why is this only in 360p?
I'm guessing it's something on RUclips's end. I just uploaded the video this morning and it apparently sometimes takes a while for the full HD versions to be processed. The upload was full 1080p though, so maybe try back later?
@@salendrak ive had other videos that have been up for days stay on 360 p, its very confusing
Damn - that's crazy! I guess sometimes they forget to feed their hamsters 😜
@@salendrak still 360 :/ i wonder what it is cus i litterally watch videos that are uploaded 1 second ago in 1080p
Alright guys I'm watching this series to learn how ro play wish me luck
You got this!!
Please do more
Yes sir! I've already got the footage for another 2 hours of so of gameplay, just need to edit and add commentary. 👍
I think that you should make flower salad with your red caps.
Can't yet - that recipe requires at least one cactus flower, and I haven't had a summer yet!
@@salendrak yes, I mean when you collect catcus flowers, then use the caps to make them.
hey salendrak! i came back to this series because i dont see many people doing this anymore.
@@salendrak okay thanks
can you create more?
@@salendrak i subscribed you
A few days ago i was thinking why would anyone choose Wagstaff.
Just say it already how maxwell portals leads. It just swaps your current character for maxwell. That's it. There is no end to the game
It's true! Though in my case I currently have WX-78 sitting on the throne. How will the meeting between him and Wagstaff go?!
i like turtles
At least you're consistent! 😂
:)))
😁
Am I the only one that sets the world size to huge?
Default is too easy.
I need to play more with some of the world gen options, honestly. Size, shape, spawn rates, etc - there are lots of ways to mix things up!
My world generation are always very "not good".
This isn't a play through. This is a walk through. Reported again. Don't lie and say this is a playthrough when you talking through the game like trying to be a pro at it.
Uh oh - are those sirens I hear?!?!
Is this a mod
No, Reign of Giants is the first DLC for single player Don't Starve.
@@salendrak i have that but i dont have that character
@@TheRustyChads Ahhh - yeah, I think Wagstaff isn't available on the mobile versions.
@@salendrak ahhhhhhhhhh thank you
@@salendrak hey were u gonna eventually do all chaeacters caude i would like to see webber
