    If you're about to tell me to rotate the Z Fold read or watch this first.
    ruclips.net/video/yOG6deGvFCc/видео.html
    When we talk about these two devices there is a big philosophical difference between the two approaches. By opening to a landscape orientation Google is prioritizing it and is therefore trying to push apps to accommodate tablets. They are also pushing the end user towards tablet layouts. In my opinion, that is the direction we should be pushing towards. Having big phone apps seems like a waste of time by comparison. Of course you can rotate your Z Fold, but by choosing a portrait layout Samsung is not prioritizing true tablet apps.
    If you scrolled past this explanation to tell me I was acting "handicapped" you're probably going to get blocked from commenting. Some of you guys need to grow up.

    I ended up sticking with the fold 4. I do like the candy bar form factor of the fold 4 more. It makes it easier to hold one handed. I also used goodlock to make keyboard bigger. I also like the fold 4 inner screen orientation as well. The default landscape orientation of the opened pixel is harder to old one handed than the fold 4 as well.
    One ui is also just better on a foldable. I want to like the pixel fold more because google is my main ecosystem, I just don't think it's there yet.

    One RUclipsr made a good point. He said they are two very different devices. The Pixel Fold front screen is like a small candy bar phone and he has mainly used the front screen but with the Fold 4 being so narrow and tall, it makes you want to use it unfolded. He also stated that he can hold the Fold with one hand, whereas the Pixel Fold is a little too wide to hold with one hand. It seems that they are very different experiences.

    • @shanecraigtech
      @shanecraigtech  Год назад +3

      It's definitely possible for people to have different experiences, for people to prioritize different things. I acknowledge that the Z fold is easier to simply hold on to with one hand. What I'm not prepared to say is that it's easier to actually use one-handed. Holding and using are two very different things. If you can't reach the entire top half of the screen that's a problem.
      That being said, some people have giant hands and that just isn't an issue for them. I think it's best for people to try and get their hands on the device and see which one fits their hands and their sensibilities best.

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone Год назад

      I think with the Z Fold you are most likely be using the inner screen a lot more as the front one is too narrow for most people. While on the Fold it's wider so people will tend to use the front screen more and will know that if they need more space then they could use the inner screen. That's how I see it.
      I have that Fold coming in a few days but I'm already looking forward to the Z Fold 6 as I feel like I will ultimately land on that long term. I currently have both the S22U and P7P but if I had to keep one it would be the S22U as it just does everything for me minus the shutter lag. I love Pixel devices for everything else though like their calling features. I'm still going to keep my S22U for at least another year while my P7P will be handed down to my daughter. I can't believe she will have a better camera phone then me when I get my Fold. 😂

      From my experience, the Pixel is better one-handed and I can never understand people using that excuse to promote the Galaxy Fold. My Fold 4 is a nightmare to use one-handed as I can never reach the top as it is taller; the Pixel is much easier. I suppose each to their own, but that reasoning simply does not fly with me.

    I canceled my Pixel Fold order and am sticking with my Fold 4. First, Samsung does actually have me roped into their ecosystem. I use Smart Things to control my television, my wife has an S23 Ultra so photo sharing is easier, etc. Also, it turns out that Samsung Gallery is actually pretty fantastic, especially on the video editing side. Second, Samsung's apps and OneUI. Through One Hand+ and Good Lock, you can customize the heck out of the Fold 4. Finally, form factor. Yes, the front screen is slightly cramped. But for content consumption, the Fold 4 is simply better once that screen is opened. I think Google is onto a good thing, but it's gen 1. There's work to be done and Tensor needs to go. Just my two cents.

    for those who don't know, and the one thing missing from the video, is that if you hold the dock on the zfold, auto hide becomes enabled. if you then hold the pill, itll go back to being permanent. It's not that big of a feature that will change a person's opinion on some of those talking points, but it's nice to know for when multitasking.
    My one dream is that when held in book mode, the pixel fold should auto multitask. the minute you half fold the device like activating it's version of flex mode, the app should auto split like the duo. That might work and be so much cooler for multitasking.

    For anyone that ever owned or still owns a BB Passport, you'll know why that width for a display is so perfect and I agree that the biggest appeal for me of the Pixel Fold over the Z Fold, apart from it being a Pixel, is the much larger, better suited for me outside cover display and if I were to get one, I'd use that display over the inner one majority of the time since I like using my phones one-handed.
    But that means that for my purposes, paying $1800+ for a device that I will open up every so often to use as a tablet is an unnecessary waste since I am perfectly content with my 7 Pro and my Surface Duo for when I want a larger tablet like experience with dual split screen capability.

Every review of an ipad I've ever seen that compares it to any other tablet has them in matching orientations. There are some instances you show like the flex mode, that's fine and is a perfect example of the physical design difference. On an ipad vs tab s it's fair to point to the orientation affecting the camera angles. It's not fair to keep the devices that way for everything else. Particularly confused that you compared RUclips on a portrait fold vs landscape on pixel and gave it marks for it's bigger video. I honestly think this is something you should at the least never do again. Nothing is restricting the orientations of these devices when open. Not philosophy of design or anything else. I have so many things to say, but this is why foldable phones are so interesting in my opinion. You have 2 phones that are very similar in so many aspects, yet they both offer such different experiences in the day to day use or your particular use case. One thing you did not mention at all and while I like what the Pixel brings, is S-pen support. Dex is cool, but just like you, I like to have it but rarely use it, whereas the S-pen I use every day. I never really used the stylus with any other device and I did have a Note 5. Having the larger screen though, the S=pen makes interacting with it much easier.
    Samsung's trade in deals and support are hard to beat too. I am very much looking forward to what OnePlus comes out with because I loved my 6T and that was my daily driver for almost 3 years before I jumped to my first dual screen phone, the V60. Bring on the competition!

    I don't have a Pixel Fold (Canada), but do have a Surface Duo and have used a Fold 4. I cannot comfortably use the Duo one handed when folded, whereas I can with the Fold 4, at least from a screen width perspective. I know the Pixel Fold is narrower than the Duo so it'd likely be the sweet spot for one handed use.
    What I can say is that with the Fold 4 unfolded, I would rotate my screen more often than not. There is value and convenience in having an unfolded phone immediately be in landscape orientation.
    All else being equal (meaning we disregard price, availability, support, which in my opinion all favor Samsung when you look at the incredible preorder and trade in offers provide), I'd probably choose the fold for that orientation convenience + now playing. Fold 4's S Pen and multi window compatibility are nice to haves but I never really used that in the brief time that I owned one.

    funny I agree with this whole video, and goes back to us Surface duo users. A perfect device just needing a cover display and I think microsoft would still be in the game heavy, and prob would have released the duo 3 the iteration they had done back in january. I think like oppo, the pixel fold takes the perfect size phone screen on the outside and makes it perfectly useable (I think slab phones in general got too big nowadays the reason why steve jobs before he passed hated the idea of a big iphone). This makes it so you dont have to compromise having a huge long phone in your pocket because you want or need a bigger display more practical imo. As you stated before I think now since google has jumped into this fold, 3rd party app developers will start to update their apps more and more for a tablet version. Great review

    The cover screen sparks big debate😮 I think you're wrong about the height. The height of the ZF4 is the same as any big phone and I don't hear arguments about not reaching the top of those one handed. The ZF4 screen is too narrow to type with? I've struggled to find a review on the iPhone 5 or 6 where people complained about them being too narrow to type on. We have all become too spoilt with tech these days we just nitpick. What's the point of a foldable if you just use it as a phone or a tablet if you just use it as a tablet. Most people use their tablets in portrait, so Samsung are correct on both counts. The Samsung is the better device because it can do everything the pixel can, which includes using it in landscape. The choice will come down to what you prefer a folding tablet or an opening phone.

      I can't be wrong, it's my opinion lol. You're free to disagree though. To restate a bit more clearly though, it's a compound issue. You said the Fold height is the same as any other big phone, and that's true. I don't love it on other huge phones either though. As I've said, if you're having to build software to actively disable parts of your screen so that people can use your phone with one hand you've sort of lost the usability plot.
      I say it's a compound issue though because not only is it taller than I'd like, it's also more narrow than I'd like. Content ends up being tiny and often out of reach. For me, the Pixel has neither of those issues. Your last sentence is bang on.

    Another great part of the design is that the Pixel is much better if you are like me and use a case. I have tried several Fold4 cases and they all sucked because of the issue in covering the front, meaning they end up using sticky tape for that part and that puts you off using different cases when you need. e.g. hardcore for outdoor pursuits, and thin and light for normal. Samsung's own cases get 2/5 stars and they appear to have little thought. Google's own and third-party offer some great looks and designs.
    This ties in with the practical decisions Google made that fit in well with my ideals. Form over function is Samsung; function, function and function are Google.

    The surface duo 1 works great as a foldable tablet, software oddities aside. The battery is too weak to make it my primary phone though. I suspect it would be the same case with the pixel fold. I couldn't spend a morning in tablet mode then make it through my day without charging.
    I'm liking the dimensions of the pixel fold.
    Hoping for a phone that can open up to become closer to a small laptop experience. I'd love a software keyboard that has a software touchpad built in. For those also looking for this, "touchpad for big phone & tab" app is the closest I've found.

I own both devices and the pixel in portrait mode does not do a vertical side-by-side multi app display instead it only displays them horizontally. There's just too much 'but' with the pixel fold. While apps would run like a big phone on Z fold 4 in portrait mode, users can just rotate it and you'll get the same 'tablet experience' as the pixel fold. Pixel fold on the other hand, has those black bars everytime and while you can rotate it in portait mode to take advantage of the full screen, you cannot take full advantage of the landscape screen unlike the fold 4. I also don't think that devs would prioritize optimizing their apps for the pixel fold coz it's a very niche market so the portait by default is an advange for the likes of samsung ,huawei and xiaomi foldables. And for an $1800 phone to be missing features that other oems already have (desktop interface, reverse wireless charging, etc.), i don't think it's a great buy considering that other foldables can be had for $1300-$1500. If only the cost is a little lower like $1300-1500, then the conversation would be different.

I think front screens should be kind of like the foldable Flip phones more focus on previewing/checking things. Not used for productivity. I haven't tried the Pixel Fold so maybe I will flip pun intended but for now, I think Samsung should focus more on making device thinner and lighter and think that means sacrificing the front display. As these devices are way too thick. Surface Duo 1 was the prefect thinness.
      Of course in a world without physics having both would be great, but 2 screens are just going thicker than 1 and the more narrow a device is, the better grip and handle one usually can achieve to accommodate the larger thickness. Like the way I handle the fold 4, imagining it being wider thus heavier will add more cumbersomeness to an already not ideal experience. I'll have to play with the Pixel Fold to see it but right now the Fold 4 seems too thick and bulky and it being wider thus heavier seems like you're going in the wrong direction personally.

    Jist tirn the fold into the same aspect ratio as the fold and you will get split screen gmail!

    I completely agree with you. Z-Fold is still the King!!
    @casual_connor

    Well maybe if you would rotate both phones in the same orientation then start comparing them.

      I know. Requiring software to use the entire screen is indicative of bad design.

    Samsung is definitely more refined they just need to change the weird aspect ratio. Pixel us a bit too small. A s23 ultra size aspect ratio would be perfect.

    Even after the Z Fold 5 comes out, the Pixel Fold will still be the winner in my eyes. Because of the aspect ratios alone. The ultimate proof of this would be if samsung changes their design eventually to match.
