Amex Platinum Credits are Worthless? I Called an Expert

As many of you all know the American Express Platinum card comes with a $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit per year; split into two $50 credits for the first half of the year, January to June; and the second half July to December. With the split of the $100 Saks credit, it can make it really difficult to actually use at Saks Fifth Avenue, because even though $50 can be a lot of money, the items at Saks Fifth Avenue can be way more expensive than that; even things on sale. Making the $50 essentially useless. However, I still wanted to see if it was possible. So, in this video, I phoned in a good friend of mine @ItsMeCJ to see if he could find me something awesome to use my Saks Fifth Avenue credit on instead of a gift card. This video will show you how that went.

I used my $50 credit to buy a nice frying pan that was originally $50 but on sale for $40. With $9.95 for shipping and sales tax it came to just over $52.

Usually get good home goods they are great gifts with the 50 dollar credit
For the credit, I don't look for the cheapest items I can buy because it feels like I'm just using the $50 for the sake of it. I've already used my $50 for July - Dec. I look for items that I genuinely want but just look for sales. I bought Saks branded Penny Loafers that are made in Italy. Marked down from $400 to $150 and a Theory sheerling jacket that was priced down from $600 to $200. Don't buy overpriced socks and underwear, buy quality items that you'll be proud to own and wear.

I usually get something that's a little bit more than $50 to maximize the benefit (typically something for the kitchen or the house otherwise). But it is kind of a pain looking. Thanks for the gift card idea. I just presumed that AMEX would flag that immediately. I will try it in this half of the year.

Amex nakes you use useless credits, which'll otherwise neve use. Thats why cancelled all amex coupon books, whe i cant cash the credits.
