    Ugh...globe shutoff valves. Have had those things get stuck before, and a quickie plumbing repair suddenly turns into a job that requires turning off water to a whole apartment building.

    Cool install options I hadn’t seen before! And relevant for new home construction pex-installs!

    If it's your 1st time working with PEX, I strongly suggest you practice (purchase a 4 ft piece at H. Depot, lowes, where ever) expanding and installing fittings in PEX b4 trying it on your line coming out of the wall. You only get one try to get it right.

    my dad always liked to open those gate valves all the way he said then it had a extra seal with gate tight up to top against the packing to keep valve from leaking around packing nut. he was a plumber too I just like good quality ball valves LOL

      I like ball valves as well. I have had gate valves stick and the stem snap in that position. We have replaced a lot at work on steam systems because of this.

    I have somewhat of the same issue under my kitchen sink.. bothe of the durl brass valves need to be replaced as they will not turn off. From what i can see there is only about 1.5 inch of pex sticking out of the wall. I pulled on it a bit but there really is no slack. I cant ell how it connected to the pex. I dont see any crimp rings to speak off. It looks like thrre is a compression nut where it slips on the pex but cant really tell without removing it. Also not sure if its pex A or B. Any suggestions.

    I think it should be required to remove diffuser from the faucet to purge debris on a job like this......

    If you’re going with a quarter turn I have to agree go with Dahl.I bought an older home & they are mostly Dahl valves.I don’t know how long they have been there but it’s been some time & I tried turning them for maintenance & they all freely turn.I had a repair done with a Sharkbite & the hot water side is completely seized.The Dahl on the other fixtures are turning freely & I will bet they have not been touched in over 10 years +.

    I use my dremel to cut the pex ring off. Usually take two to three cuts. It takes time, but you save pipe.

    What happens if the stud pipe isn't long enough for the valve?

    I saw a video where a guy put a bit of silicone inside every new ball valve before installed and worked it back and forth a bit. He said it keeps the valves from getting stuck in the future. I wonder if that really works?

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  7 месяцев назад +1

      That is interesting. I will have to check that out. I know the new valves are awesome. Dahl makes quality products.

    If you don’t have enough pipe, install another valve in series. Leave the old one in the open position.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  7 месяцев назад +1

    What a mess with a valve sticking through the sidewall. Just wait for that to fail. Hopefully it won’t.

    another good reason to never have pex plumbing copper is the way to go.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  7 месяцев назад +1

      Even if pex is used it is always good to bring copper out the wall. It does not save that much money.
