    On August 13th, 2022, The Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad decided to run a steam double header for that dates Iron Horse Ramble excursion. In what is possibly the only double header before 425 goes down at the end of the year for her mandated 15-year inspection and rebuild, both the 2102 and 425 put on an impressive display of what steam power was capable of back in the heyday. Enjoy the action =)
    Due to the logistics of running a steam double header on the R&N, the steamers were cut off the train on the return run at Port Clinton shops, where a pair of diesels took over and powered the train the rest of the way back to Reading Outer.

    Reading northern 2102 they should put the old reading 6 chime whistle on it from 1985 through 1991 I think that was the best whistle it ever wore

      Both Strasburg 90 and R&N 425 altogether are both going for their overhauls after this year is over from what I heard, but hopefully they’ll be back soon after their 1472 FRA Day Inspections.

    Some people question why Reading 425's whistle is much higher in pitch than Reading 2102's. It is that Reading 425 is using its Southern Railway 5 chime Step Top Whistle it used for the 2016 Fall Foliage Excursion it sounds similar to the Reading 6 chime, but it is much more shrill and was commonly used on the Southern Railway's heavy Pacific Locomotives.

      Sorry, but the 425 is also wearing a flat top reading 6 chime, as is the 2102.

      the 425 is wearing its original Reading 6 whistle from when she made her first public appearance in 2007 after overhaul. Last time she had this whistle was 2016 during a Gorge excursion iirc.

    • @steamgent4592
      @steamgent4592 Год назад +2

      Nope. 2102 is carrying Duke Fredricksons Reading G1 whistle. 425 one of the other Reading Chimes. Barely any Reading 6 chime is exactly the same. I know of only 2 that are even close that survive. Each was made in the Readings shops and in typical Reading practice each was made differently there was no standard lengths for each note. Reading had "standards" to a point but gave employees flexibility and allowed them to play around with improvements. According to several late shopmen one G3 whistle was a 7 chime but it's unknown if it survived.

    Is 2102 doing most of the pulling?

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  Год назад +2

      For the most part yes. There are a few instances on the grades where 425 is assisting in keeping up the speed, but on the level when she's not needed, they've got her set with a drifting throttle.
