Really impressed with the camera system. Pros - picture quality is awesome; simple to setup and can connect to it remotely from my mobile; it has builtin mic; can mask areas. Cons - mounting plate for the camera is not secure and cameras can be taken off easily and not compatible on the Google Home Hub or Echo Show.

Hi, I am interested in the security system... is this video sponsored by Reolink or any vendors? Thanks in advance...
@@SamInCanada no this was not a sponsored video.
This review was very clear and concise, coupled with excellent detailed information. Extremely well done. Kudos to you sir.
Thanks for the comment much appreciated.
This is the best and most detailed video for this system. Basically a training video on how to fully understand your CCTV system. Great job 👏 👍
Thanks!
The system
Is exactly the same as in your video.
This was inspired me to go for this system, because the way you make video tutorial,is absolutely top class.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great review....I love the attention to detail on the specs including cable measurements etc. I'm going to bite the bullet on one of these now!
Really good, thorough review. The thing that puts me off doing a DIY install of a CCTV system is getting the wiring in to the house from the cameras, and then to the NVR. Have you covered that in any of your other videos? Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment, no i haven't covered the installation of running the wires part but this is a tricky one as each home is different generally start high up and drill into the sofit of the guttering and get the wires into the loft and then plan where to put the NVR, loft is not ideal due to heat levels in the summer perhaps in a bedroom on top of a cupboard? Lots of planning, I ran alot of ethernet in my house when I first brought it and knew of locations to run the wires so nothing was visible.
@@GeekStreet Hi. The problem I've got is the house in 3 storeys, and I'm not climbing up 3 storeys on a ladder! I'd also have to do that in the future to maintain the cameras....
Whats the response adjustment time like if one were to have a flood light come on from it being in IR mode?
Hi when you did this review what speed is your internet how could your Wi-Fi to be Able to open up the camera in 4k resolution?
A great review very thorough and well made, good job.
Thank you.
Great high-quality review! Thank you. At 25m18s you mention "no ports open on the router" when viewing remotely - how does this work with cellular/remote connection? I figured you would need some of DDNS solution with port forwarding to get this working.
Thanks nothing to do in terms of remotely connecting.
Great tutorial, thank you.
EXCELLENT review.
Thanks!
Excellent. Considering this system and after watching this vid think It will be good for my needs, thank you.
Hi mate, can you recommend a reolink NVR system to support the RLC-822a 4K 8MP camera? and can you connect your NVR directly to a PoE switch instead of the router?
hello, would this work if you plug the nvr into a network switch like ubiquiti for example?
Thanks for this review. It was interesting to see the software which is exactly the same as my Swann system, so tried downloading and using the Reolink phone app which does work and is much better than the Swann app.
Thanks for the comment, I'm surprised that works.
Geek Street Guess it’s just a rebranded box, couple of options missing like notifications, but that’s about it
hi
i have 3 argos 2 cameras (wifi). I use the relink app on my Mac computer and iPad/iphone. Do you know if app will show these cameras as well on computer ? Also any thoughts on bullet vs dome cameras (other than plastic mount)
GO GEEK STREET wow I ❤️the cameras soooo cool
Thanks!
Excellent review! Very thorough! Do you think the person/vehicle detection capability that the bullet camera version of this set has, is worth it? (The "dome" camera set reviewed here does not have this capability according to the website).
I don't like bullet camera's as bugs, especially spiders, tend to settle under the little "roof" over the lens where their webs makes footage at night completely useless as the IR is reflected.
I read in an amazon review that this recorder can work with any ONVIF capable camera, contrary to what the website of reolink says.
Thanks, i personally think the person detection is a good idea as i do find sometimes I'm alerted over shadows on the ground which is annoying. I'm not sure how good it is in practice, hopefully I'll be reviewing that one at some point.
And yes the NVR can record any onvif camera...they gonna say no to get you to buy their camera's!
You just have to enter the login info.
Could you show how to set up the email that would be helpful thank you?
Have you tried the "cloud" option on the app? Could you give a description of what is available there? I wouldn't mind a monthly subscription to automatically upload motion detection to the cloud if that's available?
Would my Hikvision Colorvu run on the Reolink nvr? Or only Hikvision nvrs?
I am having a tough time deciding between Reolink RLK8-800D4 and Dahua 4K HDW2831TM-AS-S2.
Does anyone have any comparisons / experiences with both Dahua and Reolink?
The little icon on each camera (bottom left) are they hidable because I don't want that on my screens
Excellent video! Do you still get motion detection alert on your phone when set to 24/7 recording?
Thanks, yes you do.
Great video 🥰❤
very useful information although the hands distract
Hello ! Great Vid. One question about the operation of the NVR. When it has all 4 PoE cameras connected does the NVR get noisy because of the fan ? or is it silent operation? I have used other brands and the noise is noticeable... Looking at Reolink now for another home solution. Best Regards.
Thanks for the comment, there is a little bit on noise but I feel its pretty quiet.
I have the same system 4k 8mp but with bullet style camera and i can say this system is one of best cc system in the market
Yes definitely! I liked it so much, I've switched over to using it myself.
@@GeekStreet are you still using this ? And how is it possible to connect via WiFi to your router instead?
@@kas5857 I usually will get a wifi extender and plug the nvr or dvr into that
@@tauntonlad can it be wired back to a network switch?
Hi. How to live view on my tv without using hdmi? Let's say nvr is 10meters away from tv. is there a way, smart tv or not?
Can I use a hikvision camera on this NVR?
Thanks for the video.
Just one question. Your other cameras that showed up initially, are they also Reolnik as well, or can you mix & match other IP Cameras with this system?
No they weren't reolink cameras, you can add in most onvif ip cameras. Mine appeared because the cameras didn't have a password on them. Hope that helps
Just 1 suggestion... a day and night vision license plate reading ability distance test would be helpful.
Good suggestion, thanks!
I agree
Great video, very informative. This system is very impressive, is it possible to buy a two camera setup would you know.
Thanks for the comment much appreciated. No unfortunately minimum is 4 cameras, but I guess you could keep the additional ones as spare or sell them off?!
You can buy it separate i mean the nvr that comes with a minimum of 8 ports and 2 camera as you need from their website or AliExpress reolink store
Does its work out cheaper?
@@GeekStreet no..because you gonna buy everything with the standard price ..buying it as a package is more cheaper
Hi, can the camera picture be rotated from upside down? I want to get it but would be installed on a vertical wall pointing downwards and I’m sure the angle may not work out as it’s made mostly for installing on a horizontal surface
Yes you can do that.
Do you know if there’s a remote control that you acquire since the NVR has an IR window ? Thank you in advance.
Not that I am aware of
Hello, thank you for the great video.👍😀
I think im gonna buy 1. How long can you record whit 2tb?
Thanks, you get about 2 weeks.
@@GeekStreet was that 2 weeks from one camera or all 4 of them? Because I'm having a tough time choosing between the eufy cam 2c for a budget, but this thing might convince me to save a lil longer to get it haha
@@TheSummerwine1 my error you actually get 1 week if its recording 24/7, but this can increaed if you set some cameras to record on motion detection. Personally its best to go for a poe wired system. Wireless cameras are ok but not the idea option.
@@GeekStreet hey tyvm for the reply and sorry to be a nuisance, but is there much difference between the RLK8-800D4 and the RLK8-520D4? From what I can tell from their website it's only the camera resolution. But I was hoping it still had the same features with the app etc?
Could you please tell me what is the Difference between Realink RLK vs RLC camera?
Great review! One question: Can you record audio on all cameras at the same time?
Thanks, yes you can
@@GeekStreet thanks! That's what I want.
Hi iv been watching your videos for a while now i have a question i have a out door ip cam ptz with sound and speeker i tested the cam before setting it up outside all was well after set up it has developed a buzzing /humming noise on sound pick up outside can you advise please
I wonder if its developed a fault. Check at the PTZ.
@@GeekStreet thank you
Great review. I have a question. Can you create multiple users? Here at our apartment building we're considering buying a system like this. But only if all the residents can access the cameras. With only one administrator.
Thanks yes thats possible.
@@GeekStreet thank you.
How did it pick up your older cameras, just because they were on you network? Were they Reolink as well? I'd have expected you would have to add them if they weren't cabled into the back of the NVR?
They were on the same network and there was no password on the individual cameras. The reolink NVR is setup to auto locate hence why it picked it up.
Why does my camera only shows 1950X1080p ??? When I try to switch it to 4k it doesn’t do it
A kind of on topic/off topic question - do CCTV cameras degrade over time? I notice my Reolinks don't seem as sharp as they used to. I've never cleaned the lenses on them (lol) after three years so that's probably it but I'm just asking from a wider sense. Do the sensors degrade etc.
They don't degrade, I've never had to clean the lens myself.
Hi Geek Street, Great video. Because of this review I purchased the same system. Can I ask what other cameras did you have on your network for the reolink nvr to pick them up? I read the nvr only works with reolink cameras.
thanks
Good to hear the video helped you. The NVR is not limited to Reolink cameras you can add in other IP cameras that support onvif and the system it picked up was by Annke.
I’m thinking of buying some cctv limit is prob around 500 do I think this wud be my best option been also looking at Swann but the app seems to be poor
Yes for that budget this is ideal.
I'm saving this video to my watch later list so I'm not lost like a girl in a dark forest when my system arrives! can the system be used to record to the footage as a stand alone system (without internet)?
Lol...good to hear the video helps to that extent.
And yes it can used stand alone but obviously you won't be able to view the cameras when your away from home.
@@GeekStreet
Awesome! I'm planning on running this setup in my shop as a security system. Many thanks for your video and the reply, the content will surely help many like me for years to come!!! ^^
@@astroblemeRC great!
How do the Annke and Reolink NVR units and cameras compare? I'm torn between getting this NVR (but with 5MP cameras) and getting the Annke BNC (not PoE) unit, running their 4K cameras but at 5MP so that I can get a decent frame rate. Both come in at a similar price for the same size HDD. On paper, the Annke looks better in some aspects; H.265, possibly H.265+ but the description/spec seem to conflict (conflicts like this do mean I have limited faith in the spec they sate). On the other hand, the FPS playback on the Annke unit are quite low and I did see a review where someone had issues playing the footage on his PC. Reviews seem a bit mixed for both units... Thanks!
They are both very similar but what sold it for me was the fact the Reolink one recorded sounds. And that the one I ended up using myself. Hope that helps.
Here is real footage of an attempted burglary on my home captured on the Reolink system notice how you have hear one of the people speaking:

I bought the system and when we scan the code on the nvr, the app cannot pick it up.tje app just keeps trying to connect but nothing. Help!
can some of my wireless reolink cameras be added to nvr so i can just setup 1 device on the app etc ?
Yes, you can do that but only on the powered ones not on the battery ones.
Nice review.Just one question, how do you adjust the camera angles without it unlocking itself from the mounting plate? I really want this system, but the mounting design is putting me off. I might have to choose the ugly bullet style version.
Thanks for the comment. I've installed it a few weeks ago and you can easily move the camera into the position you need. That was one thing i was dreading but its not bad simple to do.
can you record audio from all the cameras or is it just from one?
You can record audio from all the cameras.
I've got an nvr can I just upgrade my cameras nvr is floureon
Can we see your hole house security camera setups
How much was this in the Black Friday sales?
I’d like to see a comparison between reolink d800 and b800
I can look into that in the background, but they are literally the same system. Just different style of cameras.
B800 is a 97 degree optic horizontal
D800 is a 87 degree optic horizontal
I bought this system. Terrible mounting options for the cameras and the NVR. As he said, no locking mechanism on the mounting plate, flimsy. Not compatible with most off the shelf mounting brackets or electrical outlet boxes (US). I tweaked mine to use with better mounts I bought on eBay. Also, the cabling out the camera is bulking. Had to get pvc outdoor junction boxes to secure everything inside and then added glands. They have to do a better job going forward. Everything else is straight forward. This would be great if it connected to wifi. I know all the issues with this, but I don't want to run more ethernet cable. BTW, use solid core riser ethernet cabling outside. Ran mine through Liquid-tight flex and rigid PVC. I don't want to do those runs ever again.
"rooter", lol
Can you make it turn on motion detection only at night and when you leave the house?
You can setup a schedule for times you want this motion detection to be active.
What’s the difference between this one and 820D4
Do you need a extra screen to the nvr our could you just use the Reolink APP and connect that to the NVR itself. I dont have space for the nvr and screen.
Once configured you dont need a screen. Thats how I use it.
@@GeekStreet Thx!.
Do you need a screen when doing the confuguration or can all be done within the app? Or can you access the NVR remote from a browser from my PC.
@@StephanTousgaard yes you'll need a screen when doing the initial configuration.
In case of power outage does the system need a reconfiguration? I’m thinking to use it on my vacation house so I’ll not be there all the time to reset it. Thank you!
No all settings are saved and it just continues to record when power is restored.
How long it can record for in 4k with audio ( with a 2TB hard, on low traffic let’s say)? Thank you again for the quick informative answears.

I was just about to order one of these, does anyone know if it has a dedicated Mac OSX app for it? ( as opposed to an iPhone or iPad iOS app) and if so, does it work ok?
I'm not sure about app, but you can connect to the NVR via a web browser and see all the cameras hope that helps.
Geek Street thank you, yes I saw there was browser access. I was hoping for a dedicated app. I know Reolink has something on their site, but I’m not sure if it’s compatible with this package reolink.com/software-and-manual/
@@GeekStreet I've done a bit more digging today before ordering. It seems there is a native Mac App/Client...but one big drawback, there is no cloud back-up option in Europe available. During your testing, did you try any of the 'email alert' features, where it sends you stills/clips based on motion detection. Does that function still work in the UK, or are we excluded . It's quite a big 'Gotcha' if so.
i only need 2 cameras have they got a modelwith just 2 cameras.
Hi
Its stated that the B800 cameras dont work with Google Home yet the software starts with 515?
Update 04/22/2020 Firmware for B800/D800 (IPC_5158MP8M)
I note that all POE camera / IP cameras with hardware IPC_513 and 515 are compatible with Google Home?
So a bit confused. Does the reolink B800 work with Google Home or not?
Thank you
I've just tested it and no it does not work with the Google Home.
Geek Street pity as it’s a must for me
Just to note, I've reviewed a good number of cameras and none of them ever had good performance on the Google Home hub or the Alexa show. Best is a 5 to 7 sec lag some have even had a lag of 1min, can you believe!?
You mentioned you cannot view the footage in 4k on the mobile app, you can all your camera's just need a firmware update. I had the same issue, I updated the firmware on my cameras and my NVR and the issue was resolved.
Excellent, thanks for letting me know!
Are You Able To Rewind And Fast Foward While Watching The Footage?
You are only able to rewind and fast forward while watching the footage on the NVR itself. You do not have that option on the PC software or mobile. Honestly, the NVR rewind and fast forward function isn't so good.
