- Today, we are going to check out Reolink's 4K PoE NVR Security Camera... the B800 and also the their new 8 channel NVR (RLN8-410E) that can run these cameras. We will be comparing the video and audio quality of the B800 8MP 4K camera to Reolink's 4MP RLC-410 and 5MP RLC-420 PoE cameras and see if there is a big difference.
Reolink's 8 channel NVR can be accessed via the Reolink App where you are able to control and change the camera's settings, view and review footage that you can also download to your phone. Their app is more responsive now as compared before. You can also easily control the cameras and the NVR using their PC or Mac client software.

The audio was bad across the board but the 4mp sounded the best. I can believe that is the best any of them can get but for 4K 8mp, I have seen other companies that put those to shame. I REALLY enjoyed you taking the time to so us all the distance markers, very well done. Bravo

This makes me love my 4 reolink cameras even more. I don't have a nvr but I do have a switch, and that switch doesn't let me time out while live viewing on the best resolution. I do have the tp link deco which helps a lot.

@@justthatoneguy2175 if you don't have a NVR hardware, you can download NVR Software. Just connect all your cameras to a switch and connect that switch to your router.

Wonderfully done. Weird how their 4mp has the best sound and day image quality and only slightly less night time image quality vs the newer models. Glad I saw this before "upgrading" my cams to 8's and getting a new hard drive just to find out they have less quality and just a wider view angle. Thank you for the great honest reviews.

Nice comparison thank you! When you are trying to capture the video footage on the phone you could always record it by pulling down the menu from the top right and looking for the record button. Simply overlay that in post production that way you don't have glare on the screen and it is still high resolution. Great video nonetheless!
Just ordered this system, one thing i did with a1080p wifi Foscam was plugged in a cheap lavalier mic and i got much better audio. Works good if not in direct rain, mine is just under porch roof and no problems after 3 years.
Foscam no good slowing getting rid of all my foscam there behind the times reolink is much better and you should of waited for the new 4k AI reolink much better no false detections

Is it possible to setup couple of motion detections on one camera based on a specific time?
Can I have a PoE+ switch on my network and plug the camera into that or does the camera have to physically use the poe switch built into the NVR??

I got these model camera..everyweek or so when i try to play back video it says cant bcuz hdd needs to be formatted so i unplug power n put it back in and it works...one time i did format it..do i have to format everyweek or so?
This was a very good video. Really covered all the bases. I have to say, even the 4MP camera came out pretty clear. I wanted to ask on the 8MP camera, can you lower the resolution to raise the FPS? Or would there be no reason to do this? Thanks again

I just ordered the Reolink 4K & B800 four camera pack from Amazon yesterday, after seeing your reviews of it here in last few months. I see they have a new 2020 pack with four of the new dome D800 4K cameras too. I actually wanted one dome camera for front door, but not four of them, so I got the older B800 cameras pack instead. Hopefully they will sell the D800 on their own soon, so I could get one of them. This will be replacing my ancient, horrible video quality (analog, probably only 240p resolution) Swann DVR system. I can't wait to install it and see decent video for once.
How well is the night vision on play back? Is it like grainy or clear? Thank you!!

Just bought this system. So far I really like it but I am having an issue with the NVR. When I view footage from all 4 camera's the times don't seem to line up. For example if someone pulls out of the driveway it should go in order of the camera's but you see them leave on the last camera before they even get in the car on the first camera. Can you please help??

Hello, does any of the Reolink cameras allow for 2-way audio and can this system be used with google assistant?
Great video! My Reolink System has been acting up. 2 of 6 B800 4k Cams no longer shows up in my NVR. The 2 CAMS appear to have power because i see the IR lights. I tried my best to trouble-shoot but no such luck. Cam reset, different POE ports on the NVR, and different ports on my AMCREST Poe switch. I called Reolink support 2 separate times and each time they are asking for money. 1st request was for $149.99 then $69.99 for 6 months. I have to say the email support is somewhat better but.....
Push notifications on these cameras are bad! Anyway of connecting motion detectors or beam brakes to the nvr to alarm the push notifications?

Hey, so I bought the reolink, got it all installed, wired up. Looks great but I can’t get the app on my phone to connect. I tried rebooting the router and the NVR and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? 🤷🏻♂️
The audio seems much worse on the newer cameras. Also I hear that the 4k NVR won't work with a POE Switch any thoughts on that?

Why haven’t you done 810a 4k reolink yet have you played with it and whats the motion detection like ?
The instruction manual I found online says you MUST connect the camera DIRECTLY to the NVR and you cannot use it standalone and you cannot connect it via IP address, just by directly connecting it. Is this true? Check the quickstart guide on their website it specifically says it.

Thanks for this review. I noticed on the 5MP and 8MP cameras at night, the audio quality was nowhere near as good as the 4MP. Is there really that big of a difference? I wish the audio quality of the 4MP could be combined with the video quality and field of view of the 8MP. But at the end of the day, I think I will spring for the 8MP.

Hello friend, I have a question, does the NVR RLN8-410 record on all channels at 4k 8mp? Or is only channel number 1 capable of recording at 4k? In the NVR specifications it says "Synchronous playback 1CH @ 8MP; 4CH @ 4MP" what does this mean?
I couldn't see any noticeable difference.
You video has helped me to realise that these hard drive multiple pixel detection ought only to be a wide view back up and worth investigating in a pir detection as the alert. Thank you for that. I'll invest in a floodlight camera.

Same for the new 4K cam's. I am disappointed by their picture quality - I also own 5MP cam's and there is not really a difference between the results.
Also they use more plastic on the new designed RLC520/D800

Good comparison. I own the 4mp older NVR and was wondering if I should upgrade. I now need to factor in a new NVR in addition to the new cameras. At least I am glad that the night performance is not much better. Too bad that there is not much firmware upgrade for the older cameras and NVRs.

Can you update the firmware on you're old 8ch. NVR and let us know if it works with 4k cameras. New firmware was just released.
You should start doing the night vision test with the license plate also..... it would be nice to know if it would pick up a license plate number at night...

So glad you have done this video. How may days footage can you store on the HDD running 24/7 before it overwrites?
I'm not sure about the 4K..I only have 2 running... When, I have my 4MP setup, I was able to get about 10 days worth of footage before it overwrites at 24/7 recording and I'm pretty sure, it is way fewer days for a 4K...

These videos are great and very helpful. I have seen all of your reviews on the PoE security systems. I have been going back and forth between Swann and Reolink. For me Reolinks ability for expanded HDD both internal and external are clutch.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned in these reviews (yours and all the others) is the recording capacity. I want to only rely on one system for simplicity for my family; I can manage all these tech stuff but I have to be able to rely on my family doing it while I'm on travel. So, at 4K, "ultra" HD 8 cameras recording 24/7 how many days do you get before it overwrites?
With a 2TB hard drive, and 8 4k cameras, 24/7 recording will be around 2-3 days worth. You can either use lower resolution reolink cameras on other channels or change to motion recording only.

Did reolink fix the issue when picking up license plates at night with the infared LEDs on? I remember it would blow out the license plate so its unreadable.

Hello, so I’m new to all these security camera systems and I’m sorta confused. Is there a specific cable I need to purchase so that the audio records to the dvr?
In the settings on the camera under Basic Settings - Encode, there is a check box for "Record Audio". The camera encodes the audio and video into one stream which is written to the hard drive on the NVR, SDCARD, FTP, or other destinations you may chose.

In warranty reolink replace cam and after 24 h the image is off line...now they want replace nvr...killer cam? I have try connection direct at router and instead poe use 12 volt kit wi fi cam but b400 not on line ....if open cam therr are a fuse internally?

I'm getting ready to buy and I will your outstanding review has me second guessing my choices. My roof pitches are pretty high (~20feet up) so I immediately think I need the highest resolution camera (ie 4K) since this adds "distance" to my setup. However, I'm very impressed with the 4MP which appears to almost outperform the 4K. Any recommendations from the group? Is the 4K worth the extra $ for both the better cameras and the better NVR (they have the older 4MP NVRs on sale). Thanks
The 4K will outperform both 4 and 5 MP systems.

The reolink user interface you are using in this video is absolutely identical to the UI on my swann 1080p camera system
