    It makes sense since a large percentage of people who didn't lose their jobs during the pandemic were working from home (if they had jobs where you could) so they wanted the cheapest computer possible. You also had millions of kids doing learning from home and if you needed a computer for them, the cheapest would do for homework and such.

    As someone who does IT support at schools, vga and hdmi is the standard. Its very rare for any of the towers they buy to have display ports or dvi connectors. Some of the pcs they have only have vga and so you need to use a basic graphics card to add hdmi and dvi functionality.

    • @szba98
      @szba98 Год назад +3

      Realistically if you're using it with a monitor or TV, you're set with HDMI. VGA is good for projectors and other legacy stuff

    • @halcyoncmdr4324
      @halcyoncmdr4324 Год назад +9

      @@szba98 In many cases VGA is not only good, it is essentially NECESSARY for projectors and external displays in many school and corporate environments. I WFH and was sent a pair of external monitors, the standard desktop displays the company uses, they are Dell, and they have 1 VGA and 1 HDMI, nothing else. They are 2019 models. In these environments NONE of the extra capabilities of "better" connections are used. We're still talking about 900-1080p displays at 60Hz still being standard. It gets the job done and they are cheap to replace when they are damaged or fail.

    • @OMGg4m3r
      @OMGg4m3r Год назад +2

      @@szba98 Well, a lot of monitors only practically have vga ports too as its all good a monitor having display ports and dvi but if your tower only shares a vga port with the monitor, which is often the case, you have to just cope with vga and tbh, teachers and pupils aren't really gonna notice the difference in quality

    • @EvilTurkeySlices

    People won’t go out of their way to spend a lot of money on a pc or phone, for whatever reason products like these aren’t viewed as necessary by average consumers on a budget so they simply don’t prioritize spending extra money on them. The beats headphones are popular in contrast and most people buy them for style points, their phone, and simply their music. Everyone listens to music.. it isn’t too hard to believe no one seems to care about buying a product everyone is going to see

    • @mariojescobar9357
      @mariojescobar9357 Год назад +2

      The thing is that beats are overpriced for what they are. They always seem on sale to deceive consumers that they are getting a quality product for cheap when beats are almost always on sale. You can find other brands around the same price that deliver way more and more affordable products that sound as good, if not, even better than beats for around half the price. Yes, I know that many people are okay with buying more affordable products when it comes to electronics. Still, when there is better bang for your buck options, they should do some research besides just organizing by best-selling and picking the top item in the results.

    Yeah, old people that come into Best Buy usually go for that HP Envy desktop. They don't care that its $800, they just want something that has a lot of storage and "futureproofing" so they don't have to buy another one. They end up not even using a quarter of the storage and the only thing they use it for is banking.
    I usually do not recommend that ASUS laptop though, I try as hard as I can to not get people to buy it because I see it returned so often. They end up buying it anyways thinking they can try to run their car tuning software on it, or use it for college, and it ends up not working for them.

      ARA Here- You're exactly right. These machines are not for enthusiasts. These are typically for the elderly or some remote workers. I'd be more than happy to build everyone a decent machine, but the reality we live in is this: as soon as I start breaking down computer components, how things work, and why other things are better, I'm almost instantly hit with "I'm not tech savvy" and "I don't understand a word you just said" even though all I did was explain what storage is vs memory. Had to walk away from a lady who insisted I was scamming her by not finding her a computer with "256gb of memory." I told her what the difference was, offered her a larger hard drive if she needed more storage, she insisted she knew more than me, and I went on my lunch.
      We can shame best buy and manufacturers all day about these machines, but users today are so willfully ignorant that this is a perfectly acceptable standard for a lot of them. I'm won't feel bad about it anymore either lol.

      It's not. While the one he bought is more current...the specs are virtually the same as the Asus Laptop I bought back in 2014 and used for 7 years. That laptop was a monstrous pile of garbage and I can't imagine this 2021/2022 version he bought here would fare much better. It could browse the internet and watch YT videos at 720p, but try to do anything even slightly more taxing and it slows to a crawl. Only credit I can give that laptop is that it survived for 7 years until I came to my sense and got a better desktop.

      @@TheViper4Life I also bought an E-410MA (Celeron N4020, Intel UHD 610, 4Gb DDR4 64GB eMMC). It does MS Office productivity just fine. YT videos are fine up to 1440p. Most 4K videos are fine, some might need to buffer. The eMMC storage was quite small. So, I cloned it to a 512GB NVME SSD and made the latter the boot drive. Only games from the early 2000's run fine such as MechCommander 2, Command & Conquer: Generals, Neverwinter Nights, etc. But, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl also ran fine so long as it's set to Static Lighting. Not bad for a very basic laptop. I would take it over any Chromebook.

The only reason it is that expensive, is the i7-12700 in that thing is $380 by itself, and the cheapest case listed on PCPP that fitr the parts is apparently $42, so I'm sure that could be even cheaper.

Also he completely forgot to add in the cost of the CPU 250$ probably more like 300 a year ago which is the most expensive thing in that computer. Still not super great but not as bad as he made it out to be. Also it's not even labeled as a gaming pc.

    As a ex Dell vendor who worked in Best Buy is that
    1. people think good windows laptop cost $400 and Amazing laptops cost $600 without a sale. They think anything over that they should just get a apple computer. They all go right to the value wall and when you tell them they can do nothing more then use word and visit basic websites they say thats all they need. Its a lot of convincing to get to over to the mid tier 14" laptops that are $800
    2. Desk Top towers are mostly purchased by older people, easiest sale you can get after telling them about the additional fee for a disk drive they buy it right up.
    3. Something I heard a lot was "I just need to use this computer once or twice a month to pay my bills"

    As a BoostMobile Employee who knows about the current phones that BoostMobile and other prepaid stores have, the A03S is the WORST phone I have EVER seen! The only reason why people buy it is because it’s so cheap and of course because of the BRAND NAME

    I'm surprised he left out the price of the OS on the desktop which should be about $100, add the K/B and mouse and suddenly the desktop ain't as bad as he makes it seem. With the $350t 12700, i's more like $700-750 and though it's still a a pile of crxp PC for enthusiasts..... just sayin.

    The HP Desktop at the start of the video is actually the same one I use lol. But I have the RTX 3060 12GB, 32GB of DDR4, and 11th Gen i7 Configuration. Frankly I think this thing is the best investment I've made but Jesus I can imagine it without a GPU and this video speaks for it when it's unbalanced..

    Those cheap Asus machines are not the worst when it comes to $200 laptops. You'd be surprised to learn that they have indeed got NVMe slots in them (the E210, E410 and E510). I've found that yep, it makes a HUGE difference, even a cheapo SSD.

    In defense of the IO at my work not a single display has a display port. Also, HDMI uses the same signalling as DVI so you can use a an adapter. So, if you have an old display you use VGA and if you have a new display HDMI. Not having USB 3.0 is nonsense.

    That PC would work great for a less serious environment. For example, I go to a youth center with PC's that look like that. These types of PC's are simple and are easily repairable and are friendlier to younger kids. I'm not a needy person and I have a gaming setup, so a PC like that for casual work and school is something I would purchase.
