Don't give up your view. It makes you happy. I would wait until I really wanted a tunnel. If the tunnel takes away from your freedom to change up your garden as you want and the animals want, then I think you would be unhappy. Your garden is so free and easy. Gary's is more like jungle. Both great and fascination, but different styles.

Honestly, I can’t remember why this ever came up. Maybe it was when you saw Gary’s tunnel. That space is absolutely beautiful and it fits well in his space. I’m voting with the majority of us - sit down, watch the birds and enjoy the view. You can always change your mind in the future. Also, absolutely love the clips of the wildlife. Tough decision Robbie. I love your hill views. Sometimes I freeze frame and explore your hills. They are many times lush and beautiful. But I have a tunnel covered in seedless grapes and milkweed vines (volunteer). I put orange halves in there and a hummingbird feeder. The birds love the protection in the tunnel. How do you keep both, that amazing view spot and the benefits of a tunnel?? I’m with you, let’s see what others suggest.🌵🌸🐾Zoe🐾🫎

I would not sacrifice something that I don't have a control. It depends on how much it means to you. Things you could move around, you'll find a way/place to work with. I have a patch of tall grass that looks ugly but that's where I am looking at while having meals, seeing the birds lands on it, sniping a blade of grass then flying to a nearby tree to build its nest. There's more than a dozen weavers nested on the tree. I have declined many people who want to take the nest to sell it. Told them that if it falls on the ground you can have it, not while it's still hanging on the tree. How do you feel when you get home but it's not there anymore? ( I'm sick of humans whose not humane )

Dear Robbie, Good day to you and Gary. Please consider leaving your "DOG CRATE" area as you have just refurbished it to your liking. It seems, to me, to be your morning Joyful spot and once your Tree Collards are planted along the "edge" it will be almost your completed dream. Your view is seeable and as they say never "buy" a piece of land according to the trees as they are subject to change. Thus, in your case LOVE your view now, while you have it. As far as the tunnel, in these times I think it is necessary and along the drive by your Geraniums, if not too shady, would be grand. But, the tunnel can wait. Let Gary construct it and once you are "DONE" with the "DOG CRATE" area then focus on the tunnel. I have learned so, so much from both of you I can never repay you. Many thank, love and kind thoughts from dedicated viewer. Sincerely, Patricia Joan Tasker

I’m hearing more reasons to keep it tunnel-free than to have the tunnel. I’m in favor of no tunnel there because I really like to see pics of the wildlife going through, and the view in general.
What would you like the tunnel to be used for? Is there an area where there’s no real view, where the tunnel wouldn’t “stick out”?
    Just thinkin’ out loud… 🤔
P.S. What was the name of the plant with the pretty yellow flowers?
Thanks for the video - the garden’s looking lovely! 🪴 😍

Hi Robbie! Omgosh, please keep your view. I would place the tunnel along your parking lot or another spot. You would regret loosing your view. I bought a 12x12 octagonal tan canvas gazebo n put it on my deck off the living room several years ago. It was very dark even with the tan screen surround and fortunately it crashed under a major snow storm one night. I was able to save some of the metal base and my son n law and I remade it and put a clear corrugated roof on. It is now only about 8x8 square, yet very open even with the black screen added and it has been such a joy being able to walk out of my living room into the gazebo and and look out at the acres of pines surrounding my property. I also used the gazebo as a green house this past spring. I was stoked! ❤

You could plant two posts anywhere and build a little suspended viewing platform. Zero need to make it fancy if you make it so you can take it down when you're not using it. It could be as simple as a raised porch swing with safety rails or something like a ferris wheel carriage. Or a pair of them. Like a people-sized bird cage, LOL! It wouldn't even have to be that high, would it? If you picked a spot and didn't use that spot for growing tall stuff. You could even incorporate the posts into the end or one side of your tunnel - whichever has the view - where it wouldn't have to be high at all.

You know in your gut & heart what you want to do, but my two cents is that the view isn’t just a view-it contributes significantly to your quality of life, and if you were to lose it, you’d regret it immediately…but only after completing the build.
So, just think of your future self, imagine yourself going out there and not being able to watch the wildlife anymore-you know the answer, Robbie.

I have looked at your yard, as well as other gardeners yards, covered in mulch and wished I had lots of mulch. I live in a tiny town in NW PA, and I have lived here most of my 52 years on the planet, and I hope I never have to leave it. Yesterday, I was given such a blessing, I walked out my door, and a huge truck was sitting out front, with a wood chipper on the back….they are clearing limbs away from the power lines, and I talked to the guys, and I told them they can blow that mulch right into a big pile in my yard, and that I would take as much mulch as they could give me. He said they are always looking for a dump site. He said his boss gets him these jobs but he doesn’t think about a dump site. So, I told him to dump away, and he can bring all he needs to.…so that is what they are doing. I had been sitting here, for a week, wishing I had a truck to get a load of natural mulch for around my gardens, and such, so this fall I have a lot of work to do. I wasn’t sure I could use it being green like that, so I was going to let it dry out through the summer and work on it this fall. They have never trimmed the branches from the trees in this town, that I can remember, anyway. God is good, that is all I can say. Now I have mulch, and lots of it. So, if anyone wants mulch, and you see the guys in your neighborhood trimming trees, don’t hesitate to ask for it. They were trimming trees out back of my home last week, and I didn’t ask them, because they were spraying it back into where they cut it from, so I figured that is what they were doing with it, so I am so glad I asked them about it yesterday. I may not be able to cover my whole yard, but I will be able to make some garden areas and go around trees and such in my yard. Ohh, I just heard them fire the chainsaw up across town this morning…yay, more mulch. 😂

Hi Robbie. I hear your dilema, but I also hear how much you love your view of the hillside to see the trees and animals that like to travel thru there. As others have said it speaks to your heart. ❤ But I think there is a part of you that likes the idea of the tunnel too. Just maybe not where it would obstruct your lovely view. You have other options like you said... maybe somewhere on the driveway side. I would suggest to think on it for now and I know the perfect place for a mini tunnel will come to you....should that be the route you'd like to go. You have so many projects going on...don't stress yourself too much. Take it easy and enjoy. 😊

I love my trellis/ tunnel. After growing pole beans and how much easier it was to harvest, I will never go back to growing bush beans again. You seem to grow things I have never heard of or never have eaten. But that is probably because you live in SoCal, I live in Ohio. I will say I envy your over all climate especially in the winter months. I also do a lot of preserving by way of canning, dehydrating, because we cant grow year round here. I cant wait to see what you grow on your tunnel. And to have a salad farm would be awesome.

Robbie, Can't you angle the arbor so you look out the end at the hillside? You'd probably have to change where you sit. Go to Garys garden and put a chair at one end of his arbor and sit down and see how much you can see out the outer end. That will give you an idea how much hillside you will be able to see from your bird garden. It's alot of work but in the end I really think uou would be happy ❤❤❤.

No tunnel. Definitely don't block your view. As for in the driveway, I say no. No matter where you put it, it will take up too much space. If you want to think about the driveway I would stake out the area and keep it clear for a year and see if you like it. Also how would you really use it? You wouldn't want to grow the same things Gary is growing as those things are already super productive. He has totes on the ground and isn't it mostly fenced. Your stuff in the driveway are almost all up on chairs which protects it a lot from wildlife. You get a lot of wildlife go through there. I feel there are more cons than pros.

Maybe instead of a long tunnel like Gary has, turn the tunnel so it is open towards to view and out towards your swing, make 2 of them side by side. My first thought, before you even asked the question, was why were you trying to fit the tunnel in the spot by the dog crates when you have so much room in other places. Don’t give up your view and all your other plans for that area. You’ve got lots of room in the parking area or by the truck bed or the rainbow garden. Your tunnel could be an extension of one of those other gardens. I can tell by the things you said in the video that you don’t want to give up your view. It’s a place of peace and relaxation for you.

I would keep the view. I would build it in the parking. I like the idea of the tunnel being in front of where the cars are parked.

Yes you need a view. Why due need a tunnel unless you are cutting down on what you have. Tunnel makes shade.
