When you parked it up I thought-what a lovely looking bike. There’s something about the BMW that say a Multistrada doesn’t have, just my opinion ..looking forward to seeing more content on it. 😊👍

Looks identical to my 2018 1200 Exclusive apart from the different cylinder heads. Mine has the same electronic wizardry. The emergency call will detect if you've been in a crash. It can tell the difference between dropping the bike and being in a severe accident. If you have had a slow speed fall, it will automatically call the help centre and an operative will speak through it to see if you are alright. If you've had a big one, like a sudden impact, it will immediately call for emergency assistance wherever you are. Theres a lot of piece of mind with that.

Thanks, another fantastic review. Been using my gsa on a daily commute which includes a lot of lane splitting. Initially, for the first week anyway, that was nerve wrecking with such a large beast, but you very quickly get used to the dimensions, and controlling the power. I’ve had many bikes in addition to the gsa specifically for commuting and riding off road because I thought a gsa is simply too big, too heavy or too whatever to do these chores on, but I was wrong, dead wrong in fact. This is truly one bike that can do it all comfortably. My oldest gsa just came up on 65,000 kms and even though in one mind I’m considering a new 1250 gsa when it comes out, I still love that bike to bits, and apart from the front tire pressure monitor requiring replacing, it’s been ticking like a Swiss clock. Besides, having such a wonderful bike which you actually use daily without pampering it too much is rather liberating.

Mr. Flyer- Well your videos have had an influence on me and I just yesterday took delivery of a 2019 R1250GS. I can tell that its easy handling is going to be a positive change from the old reliable R1100RT that it replaces and of course the peppiness of the bigger engine is immediately apparent. My wife has been encouraging this change of bikes (what a gal) and my analyzing the various choices of machines pointed inevitably to the GS as having the best features for our touring riding on mostly paved roads with a few dirt roads occasionally needing to be traversed as well. The Vloggers on the internet gave a wide and informative set of reviews on likely motorcycles to buy, so include yourself for the credit or blame for another happy bike buyer!

That was a very thorough and extremely useful review, TMF. Timely too. It seems, however, that I'm yet another of the 2014 R1200GS owners who is entirely satisfied with my current bike and sees no compelling reason to upgrade... even if I had the readies. But what a cracking machine!
    Cheers! 👍

Just bought the Exclusive version and found that if you bring the rear seat all the way forward it gives great lower back support. Engine is as smooth a silk and the Bridgestone tyres gives confidence . Going to have fun with the setting up of the TFT scree. Buying lots of extras for it.

    SOS button clarification.
    Hi TMF,
Just to clarify, the SOS button works on two ways:
    1 - MANUALLY: if you need it you can press it yourself (for example when you're stuck on the side of the road and just want to call the BMW assistance);
2 - AUTOMATICALLY: if the bike falls the system detects it and calls for help automatically, although you have a few moments to stop the call. If you don't stop the call, BMW will then call you back and if you don't answer (for example because you're hurt and can't even reach the bike) they'll activate emergency care automatically and send it to your location.

Great honest review as I would expect from you TMF. I had a look at the Exclusive in our local dealer this morning. The sales man came on a bit too strong for my liking. I told him I had a 2017 Rallye Sport and he went on to list all the extras already on my Rallye as 'new' on the 1250. Clueless and trying too hard. Looks great but so does my mint R1200GS. I rarely get all of the beans out of my 1200 so I'm not sure I will miss out on the extra grunt. I was impressed by your turn of speed on the damp roads. You little tinker! I always had you down as captain sensible....... Keep up the good work.

One good thing to point out Is that BMW are now offering 3 years warranty and full European breakdown cover with all new bikes. This is worth around £500 a year if you buy it with a bike out of warranty. A very good selling point over other manufacturers. I pointed this out to my local dealer as they had no advertising regarding the 3 year warranty in the dealership. I informed one or two browsers of this when I was in and they didn't know about it. TMF. Maybe you could mention this on your next GS vlog? No I am not on commission. I just think it's worth knowing if your in the market for a new bike. Thanks for your superb videos. I bought my first new GS in 1994, it was the R1100 gs with yellow seat and red fuel tank, it was rated at 70bhp, virtually half what the latest one has although much less power it was a great bike and I loved it. Good work TMF. I love my 2015 Triple Black. Only have 1 negative and that is the very clunky gearbox. So, would only upgrade for that reason ... and yes, that TFT screen would just be the added bonus. I use mine for a London City commute ... 50 mile round trip ... about 2-3 days a week. Quite doable. I can keep up with the smallest of bikes through the traffic. Mostly it is not about the bike size but how you read the traffic and identify the bigger gaps. Some days is it a drag though when it gets gridlocked! Keep 'em coming. Ride safe.

Hi TMF - I am also a GS fan, but I am concerned that the GS is not becoming so complicated that with so many technological things to go wrong - statistics denote that one of them will.... Auto suspension setting, hill hold assist, lean angle Traction control, ABS, gear shift assist, the list goes on and on ... and now adjustable cams..... if I was crossing Africa, I would be very nervous. Maybe BMW know that most riders buy these for European road trips.... I will be interested to see a 3 years owners review. Cheers !

BMW is a premium brand.. It's for people with money.. Sad but true.. You can either afford it or you can't. Having said that they are fairly reliable and unless it's 10 years old you won't have much of an isssue with anything I don't think. Also you are covered by a warranty and most things that could fail won't leave you stranded somewhere. Hope that helps lol !!

Yep, lovely bike, looking forward to the seeing the Adventure version though. I'm of the same opinion regarding the cost upgrading, I ride the first model GSA LC (2014) and the upgrade just isn't worth the £6-8k IMO. And I quite like the more grunty agricultural engine and gearbox over the more refined and smother newer model. I don't really care about keyless or quickshift TBH but the TFT is very nice but not worth the price to upgrade.

I'm afraid I will NEVER buy a new motorcycle ever again. They are simply all too expensive now. Technology is great but it's expensive. The way forward is definitely buying low mileage minters where some fool has decided to buy brand new. I'll let someone else lose a third of the bikes value the moment it leaves the dealers showroom.
I readily admit the BMW GS series of bikes are awesome machines BUT -
I fear that all this technology will eventually ruin the machine as it becomes impossible to bodge/repair outside a major city. The world travellers venerable cable tie may have finally become redundant.
Rider modes are bollocks too (my Bandit has one - it's called a twist grip and 40 years riding experience). As for TFT panels - are you so easily conned into liking something because it has got pretty colours.
It's about time we all returned to motorcycle roots and realised that motorcycles were invented to provide the working class man with a cheap reliable method of transport..... The motorcycle manufacturers have turned that idea on its head by clever marketing ploys which apparently work for them very well. Wake up and smell the coffee like I have.
Don't laugh, I ride a Suzuki GSX 1250 FA - probably THE most capable budget sports tourer all-rounder ever made. It's a 2014 Bandit 1250 with full fairing at heart. Cost me only £5K in Mint condition with 1,200 miles on clock. The idiot who bought it new was apparently scared by its torque. Awesome tree stump puller with a 150 MPH top end. Laugh all you like, my bike will piss a GS on the fast lane of the motorway. A big, reliable, fast and comfortable mile muncher for only 5K.
Don't forget you can tour the world on a 50cc Puch Maxi or a Honda Fireblade ! It's been done on both those bikes. I'd pick a 600 - 800 bike for a RTW trip not a 1200cc bloated beast like this model.
Best rely on the rich fools buying these things new and dumping them weeks later after only 1,000 miles. Save yourself a third instantly.
This BMW here costs £18K plus !?!????? That's more than a really good, reliable and comfortable car or SUV !
I'll hang on to my Bandit 1250 with a fairing. It will do almost everything one of these pretentious over-bloated / complicated things will do (some things even better) - all for £5,000.
    Stay safe

My next bike is more than likely the 2017 Kawasaki Z900, primarily because it has no electronics other than the EU mandatory ABS. It will be new to me, rather than new, as servicing 30,000 miles during a 2 year warranty by a Kawasaki dealer would be very, very expensive.
Certainly wouldn't wish to own something like a GS out of warranty.

  • @PaulSlootman
    @PaulSlootman 6 лет назад +2

The TE edition seems to be specific to the UK, in the Netherlands you can choose 3 packs with extra's: "comfort", "dynamic" and "touring". "Comfort adds heated grips, the shield in front of the grips (I forget the proper English term for that :-/ ), the type pressure monitoring and chrome exhaust pipes. "Dynamic" adds daylight running light (the U on its side), riding modes, shift assist and white indicators. "Touring" add cruise control, dynamic ESA, keyless drive, pannier mounts and the mount for the Nav VI. The combination of the items in the package gives a small discount on the sum, just enough that you don't really choose to leave anything out.
The Adventure is set to be announced in Milan.
I'll be exchanging my 2013 LC for a 1250GS in dynamic style, delivery expected in November :-) I can't wait

Hey TMF. Just an update on the SOS button. The technology detects if you have had an accident and the severity of the collision. It then tries to contact you. if nobody answers the call from the SOS services, they will then take your GPS location and pass it on to emergency services ( handy if you are up in the Alps and go over one of those sheer drops) Also you can press the SOS button as you quite rightly eluded to. It is a handy safety device for mine, so why would you get rid as one of your earlier readers pointed out ? There is nothing more to pay and if you have a bump, do nothing and help will come.

I rode a 1250gs on Monday. I agree with your comments. My RT has manual adjust suspension and I found the auto adjust suspension great. As for the engine definitely noticeable when making progress. Took it home to show the Mrs, She thought the spoked gold wheels the demo had were cheap looking. So now for the $33K question! (that's what they cost here in OZ). Mr Flyer, you rode the GSA in one of your reviews (white one) and you fell in love with it. If money is not an issue, is it the GSA or this new GS? Cheers groover ;-)

Don Ross: My missus and daughter have been pushing me to buy the GS for the last 2 years. Mr Flyers review on that white/blue GSA was a ripper. His voice said it all, he was just about in love! I started thinking since its probably going to be my doubling bike, should I go the GSA? I know when i'm on my own, Id rather have the GS, but I'm wondering if the GSA's suspension is better than the GS for 2up. Only a test ride will tell I guess. But once I heard the torques up on the new GS to the 140's (NM's) I almost wet my pants! My other bikes got 144nm of torque and it has to be one of the most fun rides I've ever had. If the GS has got that kind of pull, then I don't think the GSA's going to compete. Cheers groover ;-)

Yep! It looks like i'm going that way as well! I'm sure his other business is selling sand to the arabs, & ice to the eskimos! I had no intentions buying a GS, even when I went to pick up my brand new s1000RR in '16. The dealer attempted to talk me into a GS. I looked at it and was intimidated in even siting on one! Rode the new bike home & weeks later started to follow the Flyer. Then the thoughts of "should I have bought that instead" were running through my head! Its now 2 years later, & the RR went 2 days ago. Im cashed up and waiting for the GS to arrive here in OZ. They say mid dec. Will be a nice xmas gift to myself! Cheers groover ;-)

Most people do not realise that the difference between the GS, Adventure and low chassis options are down to fork travel. By reducing seat height the models ability the fork travel reduces making the bike harsher and more vulnerable to impacts its on and off road capabilities. For me a low chassis version is purely tarmac on reasonable roads.
Sorry guys or as this channel would say Kids. It’s a cheaper version at at a premium.

Thank you TMF for a very quick review since the bike is only out a few days ago. I saw all four colours at the launch on Saturday at Douglas park Motorrad in East Kilbride and liked the exclusive and rally over the other two. I have a 2017 GSA which I love. I am told the 1250 GSA will be available next month however the only problem with these new bikes arriving is that the rest of us who have a GS or GSA will see our bike devalued due to the new model coming out. I realise that's the way it is however it means if we want to buy the new one we will get even less for our trade in. A win win for BMW. I am going to "try" and keep mine so I hope the new GSA is not too attractive.
