I absolutely didn’t like the look of these bikes but tried one out and immediately bought it (2023 R 1250 GS )and have zero regrets . And the more I look at it I’m really liking the looks.
There seems to be a big stigma surrounding this bike from other bikers. But I honestly agree those that complain about them haven’t ridden one. I’m sure their minds would be changed after testing one out 🤙
I decided to embrace my dullness at 32 years of age and got myself a GS about 20 years ahead of schedule. 0 regrets. Can easily spend all day on this bike with no discomfort at all. I love the agricultural feel to it. 😁 enjoy brother, ride safe.

On my 4th GSA in 11 years ... love the things, just tick so many boxes, can really hustle them along when needed like you said .. then when needed you can hatches down, fill that tank and churn out big big days in all weather and be totally comfortable... unbelievable bike ..
I have owned different motorcycles since the 90's. Picked up my R1250 GSA two months ago and I was impressed how far technology has advanced. On the one hand ABS, traction control and cruise control improve safety and comfort. On the other, the increased amount of sensors and electronics means more things will go wrong. It's a heavy motorcycle, but its torque and low center of gravity make it easy to ride. As far as I am concerned, buying it was not a mistake.
Glad to hear you’re still enjoying your GSA mate. I’m really happy with mine too. Just got some 50/50 tyres out on so hopefully that will help me out a little when doing some light off road too. 🤙
For me my 2023 R1250 GS checks more boxes than any other bike I’ve ever ridden. I currently have a 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke evo ,2016 BMW R1200 R/S and a 2021 KTM R690. I had a 2023 BMW R1250 R/S triple black and traded it in for the G/S and have zero regrets. I have to say that I love all my alphabet bikes but the G/S is truly my favourite ❤️ 🏍️💨
My motorcycling life was over 35 yrs of radical sports bikes (I had sports bikes before they became fashionable) but decided I needed a change of viewpoint so bought a GSA LC in 2014. I’m now on my third GSA (1250 now). My last sports bike was an S1000RR which I did track day tuition on, but I’ve since done more track day tuition days on the GSA’s which are massively more capable than most people expect. For wafting across Europe it’s brilliant. Brilliant range with the 30l tank. When riding mates stop for fuel, every other stop I have a chill out whilst they queue to fuel their bikes - they love watching me chilling out whilst they’re faffing around putting their credit cards in French fuel pumps 😂. It also keeps me (6’1”) fairly dry in the rain if above 50mph, as it punches a bit of a hole through it. I also like the look of it.. I think it looks like some piece of military equipment (especially in black)… very utilitarian! I’m waiting to see what the 1300 will be like? No hurry though. 👍
Age is just a number :). Keep on riding and enjoying your GSA. Im also looking forward to the new GS1300. Not sure what to expect, but the photos aren't really doing it justice in my eyes. only time will tell.
Changed my GSA for a GS.. Like the looks of it much more and the weight difference feels more than it says on paper.. Still both are superb motorcycles..
Agreed, you honestly can’t go wrong with either bikes. 300miles is a bit excessive for me to need whilst only riding in the uk. But again, I do prefer the looks of the gsa and it’s presence on the road over the GS.
I never gave looks a thought. Tried buying a 2022 GS used, hoping I'd save some money, but they hold their value so well, I just went and bought a new R1250 GS Trophy instead. November was a good month for me, they don't sell a lot of bikes in Nov and December, where I live. One test ride in the Santa Monica Mountains, and the bike sold itself to me. Yes, it rides that good. I think my HD Sport Glide is going up for sale, shortly, as a result.
They could be good opposite ends of the spectrum to have in the garage 😁. I had my Fatbob and KTM GT at the same time. Sometimes it was nice just riding something completely different. Glad you got yourself a GS though. Enjoy it out there and ride safe.

You still made a great choice with the GS though. I’d love to get one in black and then black it all out. Some great looking once’s online. Enjoy your new ride mate.
Thanx for the video. I am on a R nine T Scrambler for the last 6 years. Want to get a GS/GSA for some longer trips and better pillion support. At the moment the 1250 gs in on top of my list.
I own the same GS Trophy edition. It's really good. The biggest downside for me is the fuel capacity, every 350km need to fuel up. I'm only about 180cm (5"11") so it's more comfortable to own a GS than a GSA, on the GSA I was struggling to get my feet to the ground properly during the testride. I guess the turn point is about 6"1" like you are.
Owned both models multiple times and loved them. The GSA will give you better wind protection, longer fuel range and wider road presence with the huge tank. If you put same amount of fuel, the weight difference is negligible. When you fill up the tank on the GSA, it becomes top heavy obviously. If I am not going out of town, I usually put 4 gallons of fuel and that last me almost 200 miles. No need to carry 8 gallons of around town.
Weight difference excluding fuel is 19kg (42 pounds). Add another 7.5kg for 10 litres of fuel. Whether that is negligible or not depends on the rider and where/how you are riding.

Les, once again I appreciate the great comment. I’m glad you guys are enjoying the videos. Now if only YT would push it out to more people so I can keep increasing my subscribers 🤣. Even more choice with the GS1300 coming out in September.
I am a tall guy, I definitely prefer the GSA. BIGGER TALL GUYS GSA. Short small frame guys, GS. THE GS LOOKS WHIMPY THIN ANOREXIC, LOVE THE MUSCULAR LOOK ON THE GSA. I AM A BIG HARLY AND BIG GUZZI RIDER. Looking to get a GSA NOW.
GSA will suit you then. You may need to get a taller screen though. I don’t like the GSA screen, weird buffeting on my helmet. Enjoy it when you get it. Ride safe.
50lbs lighter is ample trade off for 3 gallons and 1” travel. I mean this either for the GS or the GSA. Just need to decide which way you want the trade to go.
Here in Canada, we have endless adventure riding with the addition of going north to Alaska. Having owned 2 GSAs and ridden from Alaska to Mexico in 4 1/2 days...my 3 rd bike will be a GSA1250...you learn to ride and if you're not doing some off-road training you just another poser and missing a lot...hit the gym..yes, I am 6 ft.
Do like many of the BMW range For me you have to like the looks and I do like 80 % of the 1250 GS apart from the beak, it's huge, and the crazy price of any extras,
Luckily you don't need to look at the beak when riding, that's the same way I felt about the MT10, couldn't see the front whilst riding and I really enjoyed the riding of it, so I put up with it :)
I have a GSA TE. such a great workhorse.. Though the difference for GSA and GS is few.. Nearly went for the GS Standard but the GSA looks such a beast with the full crash tubes. Done over 5000 miles 2 up full luggage..Never missed a beat such a good alround bike. People say these bikes are like aaaholes coz everyones got them.. YEP.... Azzholes are practical though.. .. its sells coz its good. Thats why other makers try and imitate the look and style towards the GS.
A nice honest review, thanks for that. I bought the GSA last month, toured around Scotland on it & I ate up the miles in comfort. The main reason i went for the GSA instead of the GS, was the extra fuel. That 30ltr tank is fantastic. Yes it makes the bike slightly heavier but once the bike is moving its barely noticeable. I love the look of the GSA with the full crash bar protection, & fog lights. Looks beefy. Because of the types of roads we have in the UK there was a need to filter, especially on the A720 around Edinburgh. Never had a problem with filtering, even with full luggage. I would recommend the GSA to anyone that's looking to get into the adventure/touring scene.
Thanks Ken. I don’t like to bend to dealers requests of only saying nice comments about their bikes. If I like it I’ll say and if there’s room for improvement I’ll say it too. I love my gsa and it’s here to stay for a while. Ride safe.
“Slightly heavier”? 7.5 kg of fuel (16.5 pounds) and an extra 19 kg (42 pounds) of dry weight is not slight by my definition. Sure on a paved road no biggie. Or maybe you just ride paved roads and like the “beefy” looks. Ever notice the GS Trophy bikes are GS and not GSA? Anyway, to each their own. That’s what it’s all about. I had a choice of nearly identical GS and GSA bikes at my dealer. Went in for the GSA. Went home with the GS.
I have an R1200GS. If I were going to choose again? I would buy a GS TE again. I have never really had a reason to need 3 extra gallons of fuel. I live in the U.S. and have ridden all over the country. Having the smaller tank has never been an issue on long trips.
I’ve got the GS TE Exclusive and tried the new 1300 recently but wouldn’t change, not convinced by the looks or the fact it’s not a better bike than what I already have.
Had 2 of the slightly older GS models and reviewed them on my channel, great bikes.... but a just a bit "Vanila" For me. There just wasn't the excitment I need from riding a bike, where as the Multistrada 1200 and 1260 are just an amazing machines! alll the tech you will ever need, 160bhp and the L-Twin sound is just addictive. So personally..... it's the Ducati for my money (plus a lot better value imo) 😁
Granted the new multistrada v4 is an awesome machine. Love the engine and how it handles. At the moment I can’t justify another mid £20k bike in the garage. Maybe in a few years when there’s a few second hand ones cutting around I’ll pick one up. 😁
I much prefer the look of the GS rather than the GSA. I love the Trophy and want one, but may find it difficult to find a low chassis one with heated seats! I'm not quite ready yet so am not in a hurry at all and hope the perfect one will arrive at the right time. I'm wondering if it's possible to get the parts to convert to a low chassis one if I struggle to find the right bike. I decided after watching your video that it really is the Trophy TE that I want, even though I like the white ones as well. Thanks for a great video. 🤗😃👍.
Glad i could help out. Zoe is 5’5 and she fits nicely on the low GSA. You know what you want, one will be around at some point, just got to keep looking. Stick to your guns. 💪
Maybe my next bike will be a 1250 gs, or gsa 😁 Now I have a Honda CB500X. This is my firt bike ever. I have been rideing since 2022 may. Just reached 30.000 km 🙃 Love long distance touring... love to ride 600-800 km /day. I have never tried the gs or gsa...bit "fraid" from the weight of the gsa. How is the wind protection on the gs? Mainly on your lover body...legs, hip. And what is the real life fuel consumption? If you ride in a normal way, is it possible to get 4,5-5 l/100 km?
We all started somewhere mate. Glad to see you’ve put plenty of miles on the CB500x. Once you are moving the weight of the bike disappears. Wind is ok on these bikes. But I’ve added the screen adapter at the top. Personally I’d just get the Puig touring screen. The GSA will give you more protection around the legs and lower half as it has a bigger frontage to block the oncoming wind. These bikes are good for about 250miles to a tank. 350 miles for the GSA 🤙🤙
i have had r bmw r1200gs te/1250 gs te /1250gsa te and now a ultimate edition my honest opinion i prefer the gs i think the gsa feel alotheavier to move and wider filtering but thats just what i found
This is probably why BMW have continued to make both versions instead of filtering one out in favour for the other. You've mentioned about the width and I wasn't sure what the difference was, after some research, turns out the GSA is about 30mm wide rover the GS. Would you have thought the GSA was only 3cms wider over the GS from past experience? What's your thoughts on the new GS1300 coming? Chopping in the UE anytime soon for it?
Sometimes it’s the appearance looking forward that makes you less confident filtering through traffic on a gsa I was told by a certain dealer and I won’t mention names that the new 1300 gs and there’s a gsa 1400? Coming out go figure that one 😉
@hawkslayers1 I’ve heard the GS1300 is confirmed for around September time. Not heard about the GSA1400. I’ll do some digging when I’m back up at BMW. I leave my saddle bags on, I always have to remind myself when filtering that I’ve got them on, otherwise it’s going to be a bad day 🤣
Unless ALL of your riding buddies have motorcycles with 300 miles of range or you ride in the middle of nowhere without services, I don't see the point of a GSA.
There's always a few weirdos out there who love objects a little too much :). Appreciate the comment though Rich. Im off on the 1290 SAS today, lets see how it compares to the GS.
I dont know who would say they're for old people? Another informative review matt, good stuff!,is there just the 2 models?if i were to demo one, which one would should i demo? And could you let me know if you find one that doesnt smell of tcp and have sticky wurthers originals in all the cubby holes.😂
Thanks Mart, I’ll go clean my wurthers out tomorrow 😁. I personally don’t feel the weight difference, others do, as said in the video, I like the big aggressive front side and the extra mileage. Means I can go to my dealers during the week without thinking about spending money I don’t have 😁. You’re welcome to try mine out at our BBQ.
I bought the 2022 gs and sonetimes i think, was it the wrong bike, schould i get the GSA, but this is normal in this world, i am very happy with the GS, ans if i would have the GSA i would ask me if the GS is better for me 😁 I did a testride with both biles on the same day, the only reason i didnt get the GSA was, its to high for me, and to get one with lower suspension was not an option for me.
You honestly can’t go wrong with either of these bikes. Be happy with your GS and just enjoy it mate. Bikes aren’t for life, their just for Christmas 😁
Ok BMW gs /gsa owners Remember to keep your batt on trickle charge when bike not in use Don’t forget to WD 40 all the bikes frame rails as the rust because BMW use a unleaded paint that doesn’t protect the frame rails very well Don’t what ever you do let the battery go flat you won’t start the bike by bump starting it as the fuel pump needs to feed the injectors so the motor will run DONT jump start the bike with jump leads you can wipe the memory of the computer Oh there are not any suspension specialise in who will rebuild the electronic rear shock when they fail
I’m 33 mate, don’t worry about the stereo typical comments about middle aged men on these bikes. Great engine, workhorse that will go where ever you want it to. Enough said 😁
How many miles did you do a day to fill tuono multiple times? I can get around 120 miles before the fuel light when I try to be efficient, haven't dared go more than 150 before filling though. Mine's a base, so slightly taller gearing with a different sprocket, and I'm at high elevation.
I do my best to stick off the motorways and most of the roads around me are back roads / B-Roads in the UK. But yes usually in a lower gear than normal so I can have fun with that front end 😁

What about visits to Starbucks? Our endless adventure riding is just our country roads this time of year 😁. 🤙
Bought the Gs 2022 after one year swapped for Gsa ❤❤❤
I’d heard this quite a lot. That’s why I didn’t even test the GS before buying the GSA.
That bike is now up for sale at Dick Lovett in Bristol
They must be getting ready for the 1300 coming 😁
Do like many of the BMW range
For me you have to like the looks and I do like 80 % of the 1250 GS apart from the beak, it's huge, and the crazy price of any extras,
Luckily you don't need to look at the beak when riding, that's the same way I felt about the MT10, couldn't see the front whilst riding and I really enjoyed the riding of it, so I put up with it :)
When people say the GSA can do it all, it really can. Looking forward to see what changes are made for this 1300 coming out in September.
Never had a problem with filtering,
even with full luggage.
200 miles should be good enough aye 😁. I’m interested to see the new GS1300 coming in September.
@DSR1YT I am also. I never thought the 1250 was bad. It's just isn't the same as some of the new bikes in the class.
@@shawnolson9370 I tested the Ducati Multistrada v4s the other weekend and that thing blew me away. If I had £22k I know where I’d be dropping it
Got a gen1 1290GT…. Thinking of swapping it fir a GS. Going to have a look at BMW tomorrow
You won’t be disappointed, you may feel the difference in power compared to that of the GT. Let me know your thoughts after your test ride.
I have both , Gsa beside big tank is no difference from gs . Love both
Great videos continue the good work! But the main question is, the gs or the multistrada v4 ?
Thanks mate. Appreciate the comment. For road only riding I’m going multi v4 all day long 🤙
Thank you for the information, quite useful and timely in my case.
Liked and subscribed.
Ride safe.
Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for joining the clan.
I’ve got the GS TE Exclusive and tried the new 1300 recently but wouldn’t change, not convinced by the looks or the fact it’s not a better bike than what I already have.
Agreed mate. I’ve got no reason to swop my GSA any time soon 🤙
Make sure you leave the GSA in gear when parked and have a full tank of fuel.......
I usually leave mine in gear as habit. Had a bike roll out from underneath me before. Wasn’t a pleasant feeling 😁
@@DSR1YT the GSA loves to roll away when the tank is full 🙈
@TheDervMan don’t want to be picking that bike up from the ground 🤣. My back would not be thankful for it.
Owned a gsa1200 and gsa1250 … swapped them for a multistrada rally few days ago 🤷♂️
Not going to lie, if I had the cash dollar I’d change mine for the new multistrada v4 aswell. Don’t tell anyone though 🤣
You absolutelly right only tourque!!!
The triumph dealership here basically told me I could buy whatever they had, I had no choice on color or specs.
My software update took a entire day to download for my 2022 R1250GS
Dam. That mechanic had an easy days wage out of you 😁
Maybe my next bike will be a 1250 gs, or gsa 😁
Now I have a Honda CB500X.
And this is why BMW made the GS, for people like yourself to enjoy filling up with your friends 🤣
@@DSR1YT I have a 2019 GS and LOVE it, what a bike. Ride safe!
Yes riding in the middle of nowhere without services is why I love the GSA.
I. Would choose the GSA - but now I’m waiting for the new models…..🤞🏻
GS1300 is confirmed now isn’t it. September I believe. There are rumours of possibly a GSA1400. which would your money be on ?
@@DSR1YT the M version 👍🏻
Taking an Uber on my way to pickup my GS at the local dealership!.🎉
Congrats on the new bike day. Enjoy your ride 🤙
Great video keep them coming 👍 they are great bikes and an all rounder for sure, just not for me but my mate loves his probably too much 😂
There's always a few weirdos out there who love objects a little too much :).
@@DSR1YT thats nice of you!when is the bbq?😂
@mart7798 when ever your set up and the monsters are in the fridge. Let me know when your sorted 😁
As my inside leg is 31 inches I bought the GS rather than the GSA.
Wise choice. Zoe is 5’5 and she liked how the GSA low suspension felt and was comfortable on it. Hope you are enjoying your GS though. Ride safe.
I have a 30 inch inside leg and bought a GSA with the low seat and have the suspension set on auto and manage fine.
I bought the 2022 gs and sonetimes i think, was it the wrong bike, schould i get the GSA, but this is normal in this world, i am very happy with the GS, ans if i would have the GSA i would ask me if the GS is better for me 😁
I did a testride with both biles on the same day, the only reason i didnt get the GSA was, its to high for me, and to get one with lower suspension was not an option for me.
You honestly can’t go wrong with either of these bikes. Be happy with your GS and just enjoy it mate. Bikes aren’t for life, their just for Christmas 😁
Ok BMW gs /gsa owners
Remember to keep your batt on trickle charge when bike not in use
Don’t forget to WD 40 all the bikes frame rails as the rust because BMW use a unleaded paint that doesn’t protect the frame rails very well
Don’t what ever you do let the battery go flat you won’t start the bike by bump starting it as the fuel pump needs to feed the injectors so the motor will run
DONT jump start the bike with jump leads you can wipe the memory of the computer
Oh there are not any suspension specialise in who will rebuild the electronic rear shock when they fail
A lot of Don’ts there. Sometimes you need to let people work things out for themselves :). just get on and enjoy the ride is my Moto.
I have the GS and I want to get the GSA too 😂
Might as well wait a year and get the GS1400 :)
May i ask how old you are? Im 27 and im in two minds in getting a 1250GSA.
I’ve had the fuel light come on at 85miles. I used to ride spirited shall we say 😁.
@@DSR1YT you mean in a low gear and high revs instead of sticking it up as high as possible for highway and when cruising around town.
I do my best to stick off the motorways and most of the roads around me are back roads / B-Roads in the UK. But yes usually in a lower gear than normal so I can have fun with that front end 😁
@@DSR1YT sounds like you have no right to complain about economy/range then 😝
@volodymyrshoniia2424 come on. I’m British. I’ll moan about the rain in winter and the sun in summer. 🤣
I'd prefer the R1250RS
The RS is also a great bike, depends on what you are looking for from the platform as its a solid engine either way :)
I traded my gen 2 xr in fir my gsa 2022 rallye te i test ride a gsa but decided after just sitting on the gs it was too skinny the gsa us the full bag of mashings
XR wasn’t for me. I too like the bulky look of the GSA. 😁
@@DSR1YT for me i took one look and thought madmax
When people black it all out. I’ve got a lot of time for that 😁.
@@DSR1YT i have had 2 hexhead r1200rt one 2022 xr and now a gsa rallye and apart from tbe abomination that is xr all the boxer bikes have needed little mods imo although over 5k since she was new in sept i have noticed tbe bars are not straight enough for the perfect angle for my wrists resulting in severe throttle wrist pain so sadly i need to find a solutiin. Otherwise great bike bmw have crap customer service i am still waiting for my led headlight so no more bmw bimes after this
@austinmatthews347 sorry to hear you aren’t having a great time with the customer care. I’m yet to need it. But it can’t be worse than my experience with KTM. hope you sort your handlebars out soon.
I can easily do 250 miles with my 2018 gs,if I don't push it!
I tested my GSA to fuel failure the other week, ill be dropping this video next month if you want to see how far I can get on that tank in the GSA :P
GSA
You can stick around. Good answer 😁
Same power but lose weight. Choice is easy. GS for me. I wouldn't drive over 250 miles on a car without a break. Why would I on a motorcycle. GSA is for the people afflicted with FOMO. 🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️. Jokes aside. You've made it if your struggle in life is choosing either GS or GSA.
Haha well then I’ve made it. I don’t feel it though 😁. You’re welcome to the GS. More GSA’s for me to pick from then 🤣
Very informative......S.F.A.
Glad you liked it
You made a mistake...
By not waiting until after 28.09.23.
I am 😉
I got my GSA months ago. Needed a bike. Can’t wait till sept 😁. Doesn’t mean I won’t be PX it next year though 🤣
Bit less, of the middle aged old men 😮,
I'm just short of 66 years old ,don't ride a GS
I would love to ride a lot more , too many old injuries and health problems 😕,
Just a observation that middle aged still ride when possible,
I’m not hating on the middle aged riders 😁. I hope to still be riding when I’m older. A lot of people join the GS and Middle Ages riders together which annoys me 🤣. Keep riding Martin. Ride safe.
NO NO NO!!!! The only mistake that you would make is buying that shity, agly GS1300!!!! You know, the one with the chinese headlight shape......!!!!!!!!
Haha. Don’t worry mate. No 1300 sitting in my garage. Let’s see what the GSA 1300 looks like and if they’ve improved the headlights or not 😁🤙
I have a R 1200 GS. Works for me. Got me to the end of the road without running out of gas.
Does the new 1300 intrigue you or are you going to be sticking with the 1200?
@@DSR1YT Beyond my budget. I really like the 1200 so will stick with it for a while. I may upgrade to a used 1250 at some point if I find one which fits. Or wait for a 1300 which has been round the block a few times.
