I'll just say this- this was the game plan. Chrysler has been foreign-owned since the Chrysler honchos got in bed w/the Germans to hide the takeover as a "Merger." The UAW, with their demands & sh!t attitude last summer only hastened the demise. Stellantis was the first to ratify the contract with the union because they knew what they're move would be and it would force GM & Ford to hurry up and saddle themselves with UAW demands, which will only help to weaken them, playing into the European's hands.
Looking back at the celebrations the UAW & the rank & file had when the contract was ratified, I remember laughing. I knew it was going to backfire- how insane is it to demand more & more in an era of spiking interest rates, lowering sales/inventory staking up, banks not lending, and a piss-poor economy? Now you all will not have a job.

In 1980 I worked for a company that was bought by a German company. The president came to us and told us he would be laying off 25% of our staff. When asked why (we were profitable), he said he had German families to support. One of us yelled out that we have families also. Crickets. Afterwards, one of my colleagues explained that to Germans we were Auslanders (outsiders, beneath them.) I left the company a year later. At the same meeting the president announced we would no longer be selling our equipment design, only their German design. Our customers didn’t want it, they wanted our design. I saw the handwriting on the wall and found another employer. Orders dried up and a year later the Germans shut down the US company and opened a 2 man sales office for their design. The Stellantis situation is eerily familiar.

They fired almost all of the management team that were direct FCA employees. They then offered the same individuals jobs, doing the same thing with less pay and benefits working for their contract house. • @DesertStateNevada
      @DesertStateNevada Месяц назад +6

There are many examples of europeans being absolutely terrified of having to compete with American brands on a level playing field.
And the best example IS Dodge and Chrysler. Like you said, they're destroying them by design.
In the V8 sedan category, europe has NOTHING that competes with the Charger and 300. A 4 door V8 sedan for around $40K.
      Europe, has, nothing.
The cheapest one that comes even close in price is the C63 amg which starts at $65K, and the one that comes close in size is the E63 amg which is even more expensive.
And the "german engineering" nonsense has been debunked over and over again. You can ask any real car mechanic who works on these cars daily, they'll tell you exactly how much german engineering is worth. Theres a good reason the german brands hold the record for depreciation.
Shortly, if the Charger and 300 were officially imported to europe, the entire C and E class of Mercedes would go out of business. So far europe has kept American cars from selling, in artificial ways with taxes and fees to push the price up. Europe has a history of doing this.
Whats about to happen is 2025 january, when its highly likely that the previous administration is coming in the US, and the previous guy will likely be pushing for American products to be sold in europe. Stellantis knows this, so destroying the US brands they can, while they can, is a strategy to save a few european automakers from losing a massive chunk of the market.
Before anybody starts screaming at me that "eUrOpEaNs dOnT bUy American vehicles", take a look at the netherlands. 9 out of 10 pickup trucks in the netherlands are the typical American trucks you see in the US. Thanks to a tax advantage, if people register their vehicles as part of their business, they can buy them for a proper price, no nonsense taxes and fees.
And will you look at that, when the playing field is leveled, the dutch choose to buy American.
The same thing would happen with the Charger and 300.
If europeans are so sure that these cars wouldn't do well then let the market decide.
I'll even take it a step further. If the Challenger, Camaro, Mustang were imported to europe, maybe they wouldn't dominate the 2 door coupe category, but they would sure have their own market share.
Like I said, europe is absolutely terrified of having to compete with American brands on a level playing field.

If they can close the United States headquarters and move those jobs overseas Neatherlands, then they can follow by moving the production jobs to places where labor is super cheap too. The United States Government gave Chrysler a second bailout. After repaying the bailout they now pull the jobs out too. No Government bailouts to companies who lie when they say are saving jobs and then move them overseas. Stellantis is not an American company. He operated the sluices and the skippers, who passed the sluice gates, paid the sluice man a small fee for the service. Things went well and the sluice man had a decent income. Then someone decided to put a bookkeeper in so the sluice man did not have to worry about the accounting and could focus more on collecting fees from the passing ships. In order to cover the costs, the fees were raised by 50%. The next step is that it was decided to put a manager in charge of the operation and fees were raised again by another 50%. Three months later it was found that the operation was losing money at a rapid rate as very few skippers went through the sluices and the first cost saving measure they took was…… fire the sluice man 😉

I love America deeply, and it saddens me to see the country I admired slowly falling apart. I have a great appreciation for American cars, architecture, streetscapes, and the entire culture. It’s painful to watch the direction your country is heading.
But let’s talk about cars: there were two major issues, and everything else is just additional trouble! First, Elon Musk has had a very destructive impact on American car culture with his “rolling iPhones,” causing irreparable damage! Second, it was a huge mistake to hand over the American automotive industry to European manufacturers and conglomerates. I don’t know if you can find a way out of this, but I’m rooting for you to bring back iconic, genuine American cars! Take care!

There is a class action lawsuit against gm for this. It's not just Chrysler doing this. I made it to 187,00 miles and then I found an older 5.3. removed the existing harness computer system and put a basic full time v-8 in. oh yea the transmission went shortly there after too. Rebuilt the transmission with heftier parts. And I will continue to drive. it. I do upholstery/paint work to keep it looking nice. Some people think it's only five years old when I tell them it's 18. They are surprised. I ran amsoil in everything and took stellar car of my vehicles. Before this surburban I use to get with that kind of care 350,000 plus miles and never before changed and engine or transmission.
