This is nowhere near the Duel of the Fates over even the Mustafar duel. There is way too much focus on the lightsabers themselves instead of the actual fighting. Excellent video as always, just wanted to point out Smylo Ren was wearing a vambrace not a gauntlet. Gauntlets are armored protective gloves with very wide cuffs to protect the hands and wrists. A vambrace protects the forearm and extends from the wrist to the elbow. It can get confused with bracers also since they look very similar but bracers are for use in archery to protect the archer from their bowstring. It’s a common mistake that I see a lot of RUclipsrs make who aren’t familiar with the different parts of body armor and simply repeat what other RUclipsrs said in their videos.
Loving the more relaxed presentation Elaine. And while you remain very even-keeled in your discussion, its good to be able to let some emotion to come across, it gives your arguments more weight, if you ask me. In general, I find that most writers of Jedi combat really miss out on opportunities to integrate force-use into their fighting and fighting styles. I think one of the best examples is Yoda from ROTS where the Force enables him to fight a normal-sized opponent, and in general they did better in the prequels. However, it was probably the Clone Wars cartoon that highlighted the potential the best. Now, as an animated show, its obviously way easier to show Jedi fighting using the Force much more creatively. So, today, with modern VFX I think this could be done. Drawing from another great IP, recall from ST:WOK where Kirk says that Khan is thinking in two dimensions with regard to 3D space maneuvers? The se applies here, where the ability to use the environment, to Force push or pull, jump, etc. seems to be missing. I don't know of, in canon, there is an "exhaustion" factor or stamina like a Souls game when using the Force (I think there may have been something like that in the old West End SW ttrpg), but the fighting styles still seem to generally be limited to "two dimensional" aka real-world sword fighting styles which, obviously, don't utilize something like the Force. Another parallel might be WuXia sword play where opponents fly through the air, etc. Anyway, sorry that was over-long. Your topic kinda pushed me to write this out. Cheers!
Elaine, you are so sweet to watch this garbage, this cultural atrocity to help document it for us. But really, I look forward to RUclipsland moving on from it all to something better. I am going through Rendevous with Rama rn and hope it will get made into a movie despite the odds.
It's hard to judge if it's a good fight scene. When you don't care about the characters and story. Disney played too fast and loose with the lore and writing for far too long. Most people don't care anymore. It's sad when a giant like star wars dies by people that don’t even like it to begin with.
Do what we've been doing. When each new show drops, we put on one of the original trilogy movies and let it run. They're not getting my clicks or engagement in any way. Did the same for Rings of Power and Peter Jackson's first trilogy.
Idk if I'll watch this as I grow generally uninterested with the acolyte and the discussions around it. I know you're a far better channel for videos like this than some others out there. So... keep up the grind m8! Hope the vid does well.
The stunts and choreography could’ve been perfect, the issue is the weight behind the fights that are happening. Nothing from this series is going to come close to carrying the weight that the “Duel of Fates” did. Not even close. It would be hard to find many fights that were that important in regards to the future of the republic and the Jedi order. As far as wasting good characters in a show that doesn’t seem to get much respect to say the least…I agree with that completely. Sol would be an awesome character in my opinion. He’s kind of a Qui Gon type of Jedi. I like that. I a;so really liked his padawan Jeki (sp?). I like her spirit and I like the fight she has in her. And Qimir is a really cool character in my opinion. Or at least his whole backstory would be interesting to learn about. I also like how the Jedi seem to fight like they’re in a training program, since that’s all they’ve known for 1000 years. They’re not going to be able to adjust to fighting someone that is actually trying to kill them. That’s why Yord says what he does about Qimir. He doesn’t even understand that style of fighting or how to defend it successfully. Jeki gets the closest to getting in any real damage to Qimir. Sol does to obviously, but you could almost predict that he wouldn’t kill Qimir just because of his Jedi code. Jeki seemed like she would have killed him if she had the ability to. I’d like to know more about the other 3 Jedi involved with this situation on Brendock. We never will of course. But I’d be interested in reading about that stuff at least after this show. The fights are definitely unique and they are really cool to see. But to try to put it at the level of TPM fighting, I’d take the movies style every time.
The arrogance of comparing the fights in this show to the Duel of the Fates..... Kennedy and her people are determined to scream into the void that their garbage is better than Lucas's till someone believes it and its just pathetic.
This would have been an above average episode if not for the dialogue and story-telling. I kinda nerded out when The Master headbutted a lightsaber, and saw influences from KOTOR in the fights - flurries, power strikes, etc. Too bad for the rest though.
Because as everyone knows the only thing that gets our attention or that matters to us nerds is when flashy lights go vroom, vroom, zap, zap. I guess Smylos ‘Mary Sue’ fuse must have popped after that moment when channeling the sheer awesome power that is the center of Star Wars. Raye. Fml. Edit. If I spelled her name wrong idgaf, I stopped watching at episode 7.4. Left the theatre not halfway through 8. Again. Fml.
First off in regards to the "mystery thriller" aspect of the show it's almost laughable to even be called that. American mystery shows are normally solved by the second commercial, but take a show like Midsomer Murders, Vera or even the French show Magellan, these shows have you going in circles until the very end, those British mystery writers really know how to write a mystery. In regards to the Lightsaber fights, the only one I thought was exciting was the one between Qimir and Jecki.
Not even close. For one it is pitch dark. And duel of the fates was fantastic because you could see every move made, and it was tense from start to finish. And yank his helmet off with the force 😂
Duel of Fates and BATTLE OF THE HEROES for example help tell the story. However, what also helped was understanding the type of lightsaber forms that help give us a better understanding if the characters personality. Sol and Smile O' Ren were actors who talents have been wasted.
SMILE-O-REN took off his/her/they/it mask and revealed............ . . . . . . . ...that the real sith was all the diverse strong lesbian witches we made along the way"....
The best lightsaber fight scenes are emotional moments with a skilled physical performance on top. We remember them because they are not just swinging a sword around. This is why you need to ground yourself in old Samurai movies for the explosive emotions within a true sword fight scene, or... barring that, movies like Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai". You have to understand the storytelling lineage of these things. Otherwise, it's just noise.
the moment Lucas added acrobatics to the fight sequences, they got silly. the fight at the end of ESB was absolutely perfect, and can't be topped. it incorporated action with drama, dialogue, emotional swings, everything. the action took a backseat to the plot progressing, and that's first and foremost.
Old Star Wars: we trained for months Keanu Reeves as john wick: trains for years SW under kathleen kennedy: we spent hours training! Put a chick in it and make her 'happy' FFFFFFFK Star Wars for destroying the characters and blaming the fans
Saw the battle and it was good not gonna lie. The thing that didn’t make epic was the music. John Williams music will always elevate a scene in any movie.
Not even close. TPM is a genuine surprise, has stakes and meaning, and the story is expressed through the conflict. The audience understands "omg, two dead, this is bad, really bad". The Acolyte just has me wondering what the hell the writers thought they were doing. They did pick one thing: for some people SW is just about laser swords and larping. Mae's third or fourth personality transplant is absurd. I half expect her to express undying love to Sol now.
Why is it a crime that some things are obvious to audiences? Are we not trying to appeal to most people? There's still a lot of unknowns here and I feel they are focusing on the events in the past as being the main mystery.
The creator of the show is comparing their effort to that of an established lore icon. It's a downward pressure to get people excited. Nobody that watched it was immediately saying... 'OMG this is so much better than Duel of Fates' These comparisons have to be organic from the audience not from show creators who are desperate for acceptance of the below-average work.
Umm, now I get it: The power of one, the power of two, the power of Manyyyyyy.....Jacinto, amazing work Lesbi Headlamp on how to hint the Sith.... 😏😏🤡🤡
Long post and probably won't get looked at but personally I don't like the show but I have a few fixes that would've made it easier to like it. Set it over 1,000 years before phantom menace. Instead of the twins being born from the force let the witches be adoptive parents to them. Like the planet they're on maybe they are persecuted and blamed for things out of there control simply due to them being witches. Have the twins bio family attacked by a young Qimir completing his last test to become sith, the witches step in trying to save them and fail but find the twins and maybe they have a line about the thread is pulling them together and they adopt the twins showing they aren't evil. Now when the jedi show up to recruit the twins still have basically the same course of events but maybe Osha wants to go with the jedi so she can explore and see the galaxy. When Mae confronts her she force pushes her away into the room (remember Osha isn't good at blocking) and then locks the door, instead of burning the journal she simply sets it down and walks away but the wiring on the door she used to lock it sparks setting the journal on fire. Osha sees the fire and climbs out of a window and when she runs into Mae later the what did you do line from Osha is her blaming for the fire something we were shown is an accident. When they both fall have Mae see Osha also fall but doesn't see Sol save Osha, both twins think the other is dead. Mae survives and sees the witches dead from a lightsaber and so she blames the jedi starting her quest for revenge. Now present day most of the events still play out the same except Mae's mission of killing the jedi without weapons is her proving she is worthy to be sith and wield a lightsaber. When Osha and Mae meet the impact of it is much different maybe Mae goes to hug Osha and she recoils remembering the betrayal and also still blaming her for the witches death which she thinks is a result of the fire Mae accidentally set. Mae still escapes but begins questioning her mission and if it's really what she wants. Show us a flashback of the twins throughout the years with a bit of Mae's training and also that her master is manipulative, then on the flipside show Osha's training and how while her masters are patient they realize maybe being a jedi isn't for her. Now Mae decides to be with her sister because that's all she has left in the galaxy in which is a bit more believable, Qimir is betrayed but let's her go planning to follow her and get revenge. Mae goes to turn herself in but Osha explains why she doesn't trust Mae citing the fire saying you destroyed our home and then Mae counters with why she thinks the jedi are evil citing the lightsaber wounds on the witches and blaming them for their deaths. Before the jedi can answer Qimir show's up at Kalnaccas hut and Mae instead of flip-flopping, helps the jedi using Kalnaccas saber, jedi still die of course but give the main cast of jedi more time to be endearing to the audience so we actually care when then die. During the course of the fight with Qimir maybe from dodging a saber throw Mae's hair is cut. Qimir ends the fight by using the stunner to knock out Osha and Sol and then force pushes Mae off the cliff, he then kidnaps Osha as leverage to use against Mae. Mae recovers and realizes what happened, finds Sol and instead of parent trap he senses her intentions are pure which is to save her sister something he is partly responsible for as he brought her there. Mae still thinks the jedi are evil but through the course of forming an alliance to save her sister she sees that they are peacekeepers maybe a bit naive but well meaning and kind even having Sol say things aren't always black and white there are shades of grey like their current situation. When the catch up to confront Qimir have him beat Sol using his anger at him having killed his fellow jedi against him. Before he kills him Mae steps in and save him leading to Qimir having a monologue about when he was Mae's age he was a better student and talking about his final test he name drops the planet the twins are from and how his test was to kill this family the twins realize he is responsible for their bio families death he then also let's it slip he's responsible for killing the witches. He goes to force push Mae but Osha realizing her sister isn't responsible for the deaths of the coven and that the love she feels for her is genuine steps in and successfully blocks the push. The twins team up using a combo of lightsaber and force abilities in a fight to rival phantom. The twins succeed and both stab Qimir, maybe he has a line about being the last true sith which they think he means is the last sith in the galaxy, but what he really means and is the from his point of view hiding in the shadows isn't what real sith do. Maybe an earlier episode he admonishes Mae for being too sneaky in one of her kills saying it lacked honor or something and she counters that pretty soon that's all they''ll be able to do as the jedi are closing in and eliminating the sith. This leads to the jedi thinking the sith are extinct. Final scene of the show the twins are a funereal held by Sol for the jedi killed by Qimir. He offers both twins a place in the order saying Mae has redeemed herself and Osha has unlocked her potential, they decline realizing they can do more by walking a line between light and dark saying the galaxy is full of shades of grey. Would this still have pacing issues probably, but it would at least be a much more coherent plot to follow.
Magneto Sidous just wants to be free. This show, along with these directors and actors, is so disrespectful to Lucas that it's beyond frustrating and disappointing. This show is about destroying the lore Jedi, not just making them appear flawed. Seoul really wouldn't be able to tell the Dien between the sisters?!!
Love the way you approach your reviews. The shows sucks BIG TIME but you kept it classy. I’ve watched a lot of RUclipsrs go bananas about how bad the show is, which at the end of the day disqualifies their opinion a little bit. Congrats
I get the feeling that this whole storyline came out of a single brainstorming session by a dozen people who never watched the OT or Prequels. As for the fight choreography, Disney Star Wars light saber fight scenes seem to always happen in highly obscured, really dark environments, they’re nothing but light shows in the dark. I’ve seen fan made videos and cosplayers do better. BTW, Sol and imposter OSHA just took off for the ship with barely a glance at all the fallen Jedi, especially Jacki. They showed not an ounce of sadness, and left the bodies all there to rot or violated by wildlife. Who the F wrote this?!?!
I loved the phantom menace... saw it on my birthday, as a teen. Not particularly attached to The Acolyte... but you've gotta be on some good stuff if you think Phantom Menace fight was better. It was good... for its time... but Ewan, and to a lesser extent Liam, were not as coordinated in their "swordplay". Liam was almost 50 so I don't blame him, and Ewan is just Ewan, but star wars has always had goofy fight choreo. Ray Park did a great job but no matter how individually talented he is, when he has to engage with less talented fighters he has to dumb it down to make them not look too out of their element. The Acolyte's fight scene brought a more physical and brutal nature to star wars fighting, think the witcher + very light sprinkles of ong bak or the raid redemption. I've seen the vids of unathletic out of shape nerds telling you how to REALLY fight with a lightsaber... they don't know what they are talking about. Even John Wick looks ridiculous when you slow it down...
People who used to rip on Star Wars now make it... Everything about the writing and promotion of this show suggests that they think the IP is silly and beneath the show runners
Don't care for any of these characters so the fight means nothing to me. For the little time we had with Qui-Gon Jinn (a new character at the time) I cared what happened to him as a character. In part helped by Liam Neeson of course. He acted wise but you could tell he was apart from the rest of the Jedi.
Unlike the duel of the fates, this fight can only look good if you stop at the pretty lights and never go deeper, then you notice characters missing for no reason at crucial times, people swinging at nothing, the inconsistent use of game changing powers, the issues with character motivations and choices, relative power levels that don't make sense both in episode and compared to the previous ones. It's an utter disaster of a fight, barely less embarassing than Obi Wan running helpless from Darth Vader in "his" show.
I felt like they've thrown away all these supporting characters. Jeki could have been interesting, as could have Yord, but they were do-nothing characters in the end.
In order for it to be better, you would have to care about the characters. Everyone cared about Obi-Wan even though we knew he would survive. Who cares about acolyte characters? Its not even close.
Who are these people and who is letting them talk? These people need to just let the show happen and do damage control after if they feel like they need to.
Similar to an adult film, The Acolyte has cliche plot, cringe-worthy dialogue, and subpar acting, leading viewers to fast-forward to the action scenes, which are arguably the only redeeming aspect of the show.
SPOILER ALERT for Rings of Power!!! No worries for me. I have no intent to watch it anyway but that was interesting news. I have no idea who that character is. LOL!!! Darth Smilo Ren... 🤣 Darth Smiley... 😂🤣 All these new words/terms/abilities... I have never heard of those before.🤷♂ The helmet thing sounds like an idea stolen from the X Men. Magneto wears a helmet to prevent Professor X from reading his mind and manipulating him.
Wtf??? The jedi literally nerfed themselves and didn't use the force in the actual fight but the sith does!? Then they use the force outside the fight while fighting is going on !!! TERRIBLE CHOREOGRAPHY!
Yeah nah, the choreo is bad and we don't really care about the any of the characters and the writing is just very poor. I feel like we are being gaslit by the media.
If you were to have something to defend against , well, a sword basically it wouldn't go on your head, it would go on your arms, and it would shaped like a shield or at least be as gauntlets. You take the hand in a sword or knife fight. If you can grab their blade and control it so much the better. That helmet he was wearing, he would have not been able to see or hear anything which is pretty damn important in a life or death fight. If any fight, your eyes and ears are some of your best tools. Especially a fight involving guns.
Do you want better Disney/ Lucasfilm? I have stories to out pace The Infinity Saga! Give Hope a chance and give fans the Lucasfilm movies they deserve! Have Hope fans, Always!
It seems fans are saying this is good because of the fighting. So yeah, they're taken in by the Vader Hallway Effect. Bruh, they're proving dimwitted SW fans only care about lightsaber and blaster fights.

Cheers!
Whenever I see someone say this I know they are a paid schill
Elaine, you are so sweet to watch this garbage, this cultural atrocity to help document it for us. But really, I look forward to RUclipsland moving on from it all to something better. I am going through Rendevous with Rama rn and hope it will get made into a movie despite the odds.
As a Sith, you can only blast away a bunch of Jedi once per long rest.
Thank you, Nerd Cookies.
Manny is too good for this show, completely agree
I watched it. The fight scene was amazing I was totally surprised!
You can tell she really wanted to like this series because she won't even do her usual narrator's voice
The arrogance of comparing the fights in this show to the Duel of the Fates..... Kennedy and her people are determined to scream into the void that their garbage is better than Lucas's till someone believes it and its just pathetic.
At least they didn't talk for half the episode, which by this show's standards makes it the best episode in the entire series by far...
Did this channel upgrade the mic? The presenter's voice is so clear and precise now.
Duel of Fates and BATTLE OF THE HEROES for example help tell the story. However, what also helped was understanding the type of lightsaber forms that help give us a better understanding if the characters personality. Sol and Smile O' Ren were actors who talents have been wasted.
Those lightsaber forms didn’t exist until after the movies and no one needed to know them to understand the movie.
@@JohnFourtyTwo No, they did exist but it was not about understanding the movie but character personality
Their is no polishing this turd
SMILE-O-REN took off his/her/they/it mask and revealed............

...that the real sith was all the diverse strong lesbian witches we made along the way"....
The moment you brought up "The Last Samurai" you lost all credibility.
the moment Lucas added acrobatics to the fight sequences, they got silly. the fight at the end of ESB was absolutely perfect, and can't be topped. it incorporated action with drama, dialogue, emotional swings, everything. the action took a backseat to the plot progressing, and that's first and foremost.
Old Star Wars: we trained for months
Keanu Reeves as john wick: trains for years
SW under kathleen kennedy: we spent hours training! Put a chick in it and make her 'happy'
FFFFFFFK Star Wars for destroying the characters and blaming the fans
Saw the battle and it was good not gonna lie. The thing that didn’t make epic was the music. John Williams music will always elevate a scene in any movie.
It's sad that the commentary about this show is so much more thoughtful & intelligent than the show itself. Why do modern storytellers see as idiots.
And everyone will tune in for Episode 6 🤣
The people who say this must have never seen duel of the fates.
For real. Deluded people
The only thing star wars hate more than Disney is Star Wars
Not even close. TPM is a genuine surprise, has stakes and meaning, and the story is expressed through the conflict. The audience understands "omg, two dead, this is bad, really bad". The Acolyte just has me wondering what the hell the writers thought they were doing. They did pick one thing: for some people SW is just about laser swords and larping.
Mae's third or fourth personality transplant is absurd. I half expect her to express undying love to Sol now.
Funniest headline I've read all day.
Darth Chuckles was Awesome.
Umm, now I get it:
The power of one, the power of two, the power of Manyyyyyy.....Jacinto, amazing work Lesbi Headlamp on how to hint the Sith.... 😏😏🤡🤡
i would of thought we would have been introduced cortosis woven alloys like in kotor
That makes WAY to much sense for Disney to make 😂
It's clear Disney is purposely destroying SW. Hopefully Lucas can buy it back on the cheap.
Star Wars jumped the sarlacc at The Last Jedi. I went to see Rise of Skywalker anyway, a mistake. That's where I parted ways with it all.
Magneto Sidous just wants to be free. This show, along with these directors and actors, is so disrespectful to Lucas that it's beyond frustrating and disappointing. This show is about destroying the lore Jedi, not just making them appear flawed. Seoul really wouldn't be able to tell the Dien between the sisters?!!
if it can block light sabers then it should have blocked his own.
I liken the fight more to the Reylo vs Praetorian guard fight. Very cool in first viewing, but stupid as hell once you rewatch.
Not sure why you'd acknowledge people who say this with an entire video.
Love the way you approach your reviews. The shows sucks BIG TIME but you kept it classy. I’ve watched a lot of RUclipsrs go bananas about how bad the show is, which at the end of the day disqualifies their opinion a little bit. Congrats
So being pationate about an IP they loved that Disney is ruining makes their points non issues? Make that make sense.
The fans of D Star Wars will do all the storytelling and fill in the information that the writers lack the ability to.
People who used to rip on Star Wars now make it... Everything about the writing and promotion of this show suggests that they think the IP is silly and beneath the show runners
Good stuff,Nerd,my son say I should check it out......Yeah,no.
2:42 Absolutely
They are trying so hard to elevate this as the greatest sw ever.
The word *_"Menace"_* certainly is appropriate...🙄
Elaine sounds so done with all of this. Lol
This fight scene is not even close to the level and skill used in the Phantom of the Menace. Episode one's fight scene actually made sense.
What did Mae do with her lightsaber?
The main thing Star Wars fans should be losing their shit over is that there's too much damn Star Wars.
Right.... Not that the content that they produce is garbage. 😂🤡
Who are these people and who is letting them talk? These people need to just let the show happen and do damage control after if they feel like they need to.
The fight was an obvious homage to the duel of the fates. To compare The Acolyte choreography to the prequels in any way beyond that, is laughable.
The best fight was between Yoda and R2D2 😂
The show was super disappointing. They had a great opportunity to advance the cannon but they just ended up reckoning so much stuff.
I like your voice like this
Im not a huge starwars fan but i do not dislike acolyte, dont get me worng it's not great, but i dont think it sucks as much as ppl make it out to
Similar to an adult film, The Acolyte has cliche plot, cringe-worthy dialogue, and subpar acting, leading viewers to fast-forward to the action scenes, which are arguably the only redeeming aspect of the show.
And that's very debatable
It was crazy
No.
Next question?
SPOILER ALERT for Rings of Power!!! No worries for me. I have no intent to watch it anyway but that was interesting news. I have no idea who that character is. LOL!!!
Darth Smilo Ren... 🤣 Darth Smiley... 😂🤣
All these new words/terms/abilities... I have never heard of those before.🤷♂
The helmet thing sounds like an idea stolen from the X Men.
There is a reason this show is NOT cannon.
You'd also probably have a hilt on your swords, but...
Do you want better Disney/ Lucasfilm? I have stories to out pace The Infinity Saga! Give Hope a chance and give fans the Lucasfilm movies they deserve! Have Hope fans, Always!
Essentially the same review as the Drunken reviewer but with your lilt and less anger. Good enough to say don't bother.
It seems fans are saying this is good because of the fighting. So yeah, they're taken in by the Vader Hallway Effect. Bruh, they're proving dimwitted SW fans only care about lightsaber and blaster fights.
No, they said this is the only redeeming thing about the show. Completely different 😂
