There's a story behind the song "Never Enough", the actress isn't the one singing it, it's a young woman named Loren Allred who was one of the singers who sanged it in rehearsals and to help the actors with the singing. But the actress decided that she should sing it in the movie because she was amazing.
Rebecca fegruson actually trained to sing it for months but couldn't do it to Loren's level, in the end they filmed her actually singing and dubbed over her. That's why it looks so realistic and people don't realise its Loren's voice not Rebecca's, because you can see the strain in Rebecca's face and neck muscles. Loren appeared on BGT and made it to the finals.

The undertones of Jackman sorta taking advantage of the circus characters is warranted, since the character he’s playing in the movie certainly has good intentions but the real person he’s based on, PT Barnum, was absolutely taking advantage of the circus performers he hired.

(No spoilers, just explaining a bit of the characters) Phillip Carlyle (Zac Efron) is the son of some uppity high society people and by joining the circus he's basically dishonoring his family name. He's also kinda depressed before joining the circus I think? Or at least an alcoholic (so basically depressed) He would only drink and work on his plays. Phineas T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman) starts the circus off with good intentions but kinda loses himself and the meaning behind the circus throughout the musical, at the end he realizes he was being a little bitch and tries to fix himself. Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson) is a professional opera singer, her singing is good but we don't like her (I don't at least) (edited because I was writing these as I was watching the video)

So about Hugh Jackmans power ballad in From Now On- I’m pretty sure he was not supposed to sing that song. He got skin cancer or something (if anyone who knows this better wants to correct me go ahead) but the doctor said take it easy and don’t sing hard songs like this- but he did it anyway
it was for when they were filming/singing the songs trying to get the movie greenlit! they had someone else there originally to sing it but jackman decided to sing it anyway (and i believe he'd had nose surgery or something and wasn't allowed to sing because he had stitches or something similar)
He had nasal surgery to remove a skin cancer the day before they were getting the movie greenlit, and his doctor told him not to sing at all. The lyricists for the movie asked Jeremey Jordan (who played Phillip Carlyle in the greenlight version) to sing Jackman's parts while Jackman did everything else. In From Now On, he decided to sing after Jordan sang a bit of the beginning of the song. There's a video of it on youtube and I highly recommend watching it :)
The bartender in the other side was actually the choreographer not just some background actor. I absolutely love the other side. My friend did a parody to it for one of her college projects and this project was for world environment day. I took the part of Hugh and lip synced his parts and my friend did Zac's. In the parody I was trying to get her to be more environmentally friendly. She just cut out the price negotiation and it worked perfectly.
The thing I remember from From Now On the most is the choreo and the drums. The actual MVP of The Other Side is the bartender actually. But Zac and Hugh are stellar no lie. The irony of Hugh’s character saying earlier in the scene that he wanted to give the audience something real for once but Rebecca Ferguson isn’t even the one doing the singing for Never Enough. It makes me laugh every time.
Fun fact: I've got a special attachment to From Now On cause when I was in High School I was part of the mens choir and not only did we sing this song, but it was also the final song in the show and EVERY SINGLE CHOIR GROUP SANG TOGETHER. It gave me friggin goosebumps, and it's stuck with me ever since.
Loren Allred is the one actually singing Never Enough, which has been noted on here. Loren had been a contestant on The Voice previous to doing this. She is actually the reason that I stopped watching The Voice, because she was robbed on that show. The show broadcasted multiple people that did not make the cut, but did not show Loren's audition. They did not show her next performance either. They showed her for the first time in the knockout round and it ticked me off because she couldnt develop a fan base for rhe next round which was the first round that the fans voted on, and she wound up not getting enough votes. I never watched rhe show again. The knockout round rhat they showed was an Amy Winehouse song and she was phenomenal.
My dad was an amazing banjo player. Banjos being me such joy, and I hate how people discount them as instruments. Watching my dad with his banjo picks singing for me really helped me develop my love for music.
You should totally watch Hairspray if you haven't because Zac Efron sings in that, too and it was supposedly the film that proved to the people directing High School Musical that he could handle singing on his own after having learned. (And also the other actors / actresses have pretty great voices, too.)
Every time I watch this I always get caught off guard with the word choice at 4:51. “Right at the start” makes me get Running Home to You flashbacks every time.
Love this! There’s a medley of this by Voiceplay that I highly recommend. Voiceplay in general. Also their member, Geoff, if you’ve never heard him.. prepare yourself. Fair warning. He’s got amazing solo stuff as well. Anyway, thanks for this! Looking forward to more, especially more JATP. Cheers!
In my opinion the most underrated song from this movie (and my favourite) is Tightrope. I hope you can check that one out at some point too. I love watching your reactions 🥰
13:50 Ironically, it's not just the vibes of the show, but also from history. People can whine all they want that people in his circus were put on a show, but in their times it was still shitload better than lots of the alternative which were being put on a show by medical people, random person in a shop or begging on the street.
After that, you should listen (maybe off camera) to the album The Greatest Showman: Reimagined. It's basically the songs of the movie sang by famous artists like Pink (with her daughter), Kelly Clarkson, and others! I think you could really enjoy it!
And I already said it in the previous video, but Jeremy Jordan "The Day I Saved The Greatest Showman" is a must watch too. Obviously his voice is amazing, he's famous on Broadway, but the story he told is very interesting!
Great Reaction !! Fun Fact: The lady who sings the song "Never" (The one he reacts to at the end) actually didn't sing the song. Someone else sings the song :)
Love this soundtrack!! If you are looking for more songs to react to I would recommend some Scooby Doo songs. Here are some good ones: Scooby Doo: Pirates Ahoy- “That’s the Way We Go” Scooby Doo: Pirates Ahoy- “Blow Ye Winds” Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase- “Hello Cyberdream” Scooby doo and the Goblin King- “Goblin Oogie Boogie” Scooby doo on Zombie Island- “It’s Terror Time Again” Scooby doo and The Alien Invaders- “How Groovy” Scooby doo! Mystery Incorporated- “Trap of Love” Scooby doo and the Witch’s Ghost- “Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air” Scooby doo and the Witch’s Ghost- “I’m a Hex Girl”
now you need to listen to “The Greatest Showman” but the one at the beginning of the movie, the one you listened to in the first video was at the end of the movie!
13:50 Well, that was the original PT Barum guy, who the film was based on. Thats what he did. The musical is just.......a musical, and a beautiful idea But yes, it has THE best musical songs ever!!!
Sad fact :When the movie first came out me and my family bought the CD and showed it to my grandpa who is sadly dead and when Never Enough came on it was the first time I ever seen him cry that’s how nice the song is
Personally, my favorite part of the video was the minute long tirad (not negative) about never hearing Zac Efron sing and the lore of him not actual singing in the first high school musical movie 😂😂 Also, i would absolutely love to see a reaction video to the whole movie. see how the songs connect
Rebecca Ferguson was playing the part of a historical figure - Jenny Lind (known as the Swedish Nightingale) and her acting was awesome. Loren Allred's voice was perfect for the song
Fun fact! If you go back and watch The Other Side, yoi can see that Hugh Jackmans character isnt actually drinking most of the shots, but Zac Efrons character drinks every single one hes given. Implying that Hugh got Zac drunk enough to lower his inhibitions to get him to agree to a deal.
Drew Seeley Sings HSM1, but Zac Efron fought for the right to sing in HSM2 & 3 and it was amazing. This is why you should watch all the movies. BTW "Never Enough" is sung by someone else.
You need to watch the live versions of how the movie got greenlit one of em hugh sung from now on he wasnt supposed to sing during the movie only act as he had a cancer cut from his nose the day prior to filming but it got to that song and he said f it and sung he ruptured his stitches and had to get new ones but he did and its him singing all his songs in the movie thanks hugh
I cannot emphasize this enough, you NEED to watch the movie. The story is incredible, it's such a comfort movie for me. All of the characters are played so well and obviously the music is beyond. These clips don't do it justice. Genuinely, when you get a chance, watch the musical in full. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Im happy you got to hear From now on and Never Enough but im still mad Tighrope didn't made the cut for neither of two videos. Great video though! its great to see your reactions to my fav songs
Zac's character is an original character named Phillip Carlyle. In the movie, Phillip was the son of wealthy parents and if I remember correctly ran his own playhouse? So he was always going to plays and attending fancy dinners and events, and he somewhat enjoyed it, but he also felt hollow and unfulfilled. Once he joined the circus with Barnum, he found creativity, wonder, love (in Anne Wheeler - Zendaya's character - but also general familial love and friendship with the rest of the circus acts). And his relationship with Anne has ups and downs - in Never Enough, the people that looked over at them were Phillip's parents. He knew they were judging him and, in a momentary lapse of judgement, he cared about their opinion and dropped Anne's hand. He regretted it, and tried to make it up to her and even stood up to his parents for her, risking being disowned and disinherited. (The implication, if it wasn't obvious, is that his parents are racist, which is what Rewrite the Stars is talking about as well, Anne saying they can't be together because they'll be judged, Phillip saying he doesn't care and will happily endure it if it means he can be with her)
5:33 if you pay attention, in the background, you can see that the pounding kick drum sound is coming from the tall man getting on the bar counter and hitting the ceiling lol
No, in the first one he only sang on the balcony when he went to see Gabriella. Every other time it was Drew Seley (Another Cinderella Story) who sang it. If I remember correctly, Drew was chosen to play Troy but he wasn't available so instead they made him record the songs. I think it's because Zac was going through puberty at the time that they didn't make him sing. After HSM1, he did Hairspray which proved that he indeed knew to sing and that's why it's real voice in HSM2 and 3.

Phillip Carlyle (Zac Efron) is the son of some uppity high society people and by joining the circus he's basically dishonoring his family name.
Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson) is a professional opera singer, her singing is good but we don't like her (I don't at least)
(edited because I was writing these as I was watching the video)
Why don't you like Jenny Lind?
@@trixicenby999 (spoilers)
because she kissed Barnum on the lips in front of camera knowing he's a married man and his wife would see to "say goodbye"
@@lostisfound5130 Hi, I’ve watched the scenes She’s in, she never kissed him and it was never really shown if she had a romantic interest in him or not. She did saw what he was, someone using her talent for his own gain
@@trixicenby999 She created negative press against him of "cheating", which caused his wife to almost leave. That is NOT how to handle being used for his gain 😂
@@gachatana9656 I think that what she thought of him, she got vibes that he was into her and its not like his wife wasnt frustrated and sad towards him
It’s so much better watching a musical commentary when the person actually knows what they’re talking abt and has a musically inclined background 😂
0:11 My Manager and coworker have decided to name me Patrick Star because I didn't know what lmao and whatever those things are called mean. All the people who say they're 'old' because they don't know what 'slang' people are using nowadays or something is basically me despite having just graduated university at the time.
There's a video of it on youtube and I highly recommend watching it :)
fun fact about the "other side" scene, the bartender is the choreographer for that scene
I am a 29 year old woman, watching a video from 6 months ago and shouting to my phone "WATCH THE MOVIE MATHEW, WATCH THE MOVIE!"
Fun. Fact Never enough was lip synched a women called Loreen alred sang it but it's favourite song by far second to this is me
The bartender in the other side was actually the choreographer not just some background actor.
I love how humorous Matthew is.
Another video of watching Matthew react to musicals, another day to recommend Ride The Cyclone
I second this, RTC is so

They really need to give the bartender a raise for putting up with them XD
You should totally watch Hairspray if you haven't because Zac Efron sings in that, too and it was supposedly the film that proved to the people directing High School Musical that he could handle singing on his own after having learned. (And also the other actors / actresses have pretty great voices, too.)
Every time Mathew uploads his quality gets better and better
If you want to hear more of Zac singing you should defo do vids on HSM2 & 3 and Hairspray 2007, where Zac plays Link Larkin!
I loved the greatest showman a few years ago and just watching someone react to it made me cry. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.
Every time I watch this I always get caught off guard with the word choice at 4:51. “Right at the start” makes me get Running Home to You flashbacks every time.
definitely my favourite musical thanks for always making me smile 😁
Cheers!
“OMG.. ZENDAYA!!” is everyone’s reaction to seeing her
You need to hear the second time "Never Enough" was sang with all the emotions and her trynna hold her breathe not to cry on stage. It is BREATHTAKING
In my opinion the most underrated song from this movie (and my favourite) is Tightrope. I hope you can check that one out at some point too. I love watching your reactions 🥰
YES
2:08 Okay, but does ANYONE ELSE think he looks like Alfred Molina playing Doctor Octavius in Spiderman 2?😂
0:52 Ik I’m late but u haven’t seen anyone else saying this, but in high school musical 2&3 it is Zac singing
Love this soundtrack!! If you are looking for more songs to react to I would recommend some Scooby Doo songs. Here are some good ones:
Scooby Doo: Pirates Ahoy- “That’s the Way We Go”
Scooby Doo: Pirates Ahoy- “Blow Ye Winds”
Scooby Doo and The Cyber Chase- “Hello Cyberdream”
Scooby doo and the Goblin King- “Goblin Oogie Boogie”
Scooby doo on Zombie Island- “It’s Terror Time Again”
Scooby doo and The Alien Invaders- “How Groovy”
Scooby doo! Mystery Incorporated- “Trap of Love”
Scooby doo and the Witch’s Ghost- “Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air”
Scooby doo and the Witch’s Ghost- “I’m a Hex Girl”
PLEASE I WOULD KILL FOR THIS
now you need to listen to “The Greatest Showman” but the one at the beginning of the movie, the one you listened to in the first video was at the end of the movie!
7:04, I am only here for 'The Otherside'.
Me to
Honestly you need to watch the movie. between musical pieces the context and composition adds so much more to the experience.
13:50 Well, that was the original PT Barum guy, who the film was based on. Thats what he did. The musical is just.......a musical, and a beautiful idea
But yes, it has THE best musical songs ever!!!
Sad fact :When the movie first came out me and my family bought the CD and showed it to my grandpa who is sadly dead and when Never Enough came on it was the first time I ever seen him cry that’s how nice the song is
YESS! These are by far the best songs! Glad you did part 2
‘Never enough’ gives me chills and makes me want to cry it’s so beautiful!!
Personally, my favorite part of the video was the minute long tirad (not negative) about never hearing Zac Efron sing and the lore of him not actual singing in the first high school musical movie 😂😂
Also, i would absolutely love to see a reaction video to the whole movie. see how the songs connect
Rebecca Ferguson was playing the part of a historical figure - Jenny Lind (known as the Swedish Nightingale) and her acting was awesome. Loren Allred's voice was perfect for the song
i love it when people appreciate good music
One of my favorite memories is watching my son watch never enough for the first time. He was maybe 7/8 and had stars in his eyes.
Ah, finally he's reacting to this ❤
In never enough the lady in the video isn’t actually singing it a different lady named Loren Allred
Gotta love the greatest showman
Come Alive is one of my go-to “get yourself amped and GOOOO!” Tracks. Especially the Years and Years version from the Reimagined album.
words cannot describe the pure homosexuality that ran through my body when i first watched the other side scene
Same lmao
i dont know if you have hear it already, but you should hear Les Miserables songs, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway sang in that musical
I didn't know it wasn't Zac Efron signing in HSM
_I've been living a lie_
he sang in the sequels
he definitely sings in that movie, just not most of it.
the other side is such a vibe. i adore that song. it’s definitely my favourite from the film
YEEES MATHEW BACK WITH ANOTHER THE GREATEST SHOWMAN VIDEO 😲😲😲😲
Now I would love to see you react to Jeremy Jordan performance at 54 Bellow explaing how he saved the Greatest Showman, you’ve heard his voice before in the Tangled The Series songs too.
Well. Now you have to react to the songs in the other HSM movies, where Zac Efron sings
At 5:22 there is a man beating on the ceiling while Mathew describes the excellent percussion. It is my personal belief that "drywall" should be added to the list of instruments which Mathew is expected to comment upon.
Tightrope is a really underrated song from this movie.
I was yesterday years old when I found that that Loren Alred isn't Jenny Lind
OMG YAY i was hoping you'd listen to more of them!
Im happy you got to hear From now on and Never Enough but im still mad Tighrope didn't made the cut for neither of two videos. Great video though! its great to see your reactions to my fav songs
I’m just patiently waiting for more Sophia the first songs lol
Same!
(The implication, if it wasn't obvious, is that his parents are racist, which is what Rewrite the Stars is talking about as well, Anne saying they can't be together because they'll be judged, Phillip saying he doesn't care and will happily endure it if it means he can be with her)
I recommend watching the British Got Talent version of Never Enough by Loren, she does such an amazing job at changing up some of the notes!! 🤩
5:33 if you pay attention, in the background, you can see that the pounding kick drum sound is coming from the tall man getting on the bar counter and hitting the ceiling lol
The comment about Zac Efron not singing in HSM 1 was ironic because he reacted to never enough where the actress isn’t the one singing 😂
3:35 YES OMG i’ve always been trying to put my finger on what this song sounds like and IT’S EXACTLY LIKE AN AVICII SONG
He sings in high school musical but his voice is mixed w another guy
No, in the first one he only sang on the balcony when he went to see Gabriella. Every other time it was Drew Seley (Another Cinderella Story) who sang it. If I remember correctly, Drew was chosen to play Troy but he wasn't available so instead they made him record the songs.
I think it's because Zac was going through puberty at the time that they didn't make him sing.
After HSM1, he did Hairspray which proved that he indeed knew to sing and that's why it's real voice in HSM2 and 3.
@@sophielem59 Ik but his voice was sometimes mixed in
EVERY SONG ON THAT MOVIE IS TOP TIER 👏🏻😭I will ALWAYS cry my eyes out every time I hear “Never Enough”. It’s just so good
Matthew I hate it to break it to u the person who you think sings never enough is not her she is just lip singing buuut the person who actually sings it has brown hair😢❤
13:50 I think it’s important to mention Hugh Jackman is playing P.T Barnum so yes
