I like when you, "get to talkin'" you usually teach some great stuff in those moments! Thanks fir the great lesson. We are still freezing up here in the north, can't wait to do my first splits this year...
Always like your videos. Made 3 more splits today from the same hive using the queen cells they produced when I moved their queen out 2 weeks ago. Thats five splits from one hive in two weeks and it is still packed with bees. Your vids really help with the courage to be so aggressive!
I'm wearing headphones.. I was extremely afraid of them.. I'm descencitising myself.. thank you so much.. i. Actually starting to like and respect bees.
Fyi; I have bought 20 of your feeders and I cut the 1/2" bottom nose off for my use and awesome feeder! I will be ordering 10 more. Good videos one arm jack, lol. Cheerios
Could you do a video showing how your attach your fishing line (making an X with the fishing line vs horizontal lines), starter strips, and full sheets of foundation? Thanks for all your videos.
At 5.40 you are missing the queen cup bottom left (if it is polished they are getting ready). Also the first frame you pulled that the bottom edge is wave formed and not a single inverted bell form is also a clear sign.
Hey David, we started the spring off with 6 hives, and we have made several splits when we have seen signs of a potential swarm. My question to you: what steps should I take to keep a strong hive, that will not want to swarm, so we can have a decent honey harvest? One of our colonies was slam full of bees/brood, and it has two deep 10 frame boxes for a brood nest. We added a honey super, and the bees did not show much interest in it. This is just our second year, so we did not have drawn comb for our honey super. At last inspection, we saw several capped swarm cells, so we made several splits off this colony. We are happy with the increase in hives, but we really wanted this hive to remain strong for honey production! Thank you for your time.
I am in Oregon and my bees did very well this year.I have three deeps and the top one was packed with capped honey about a month ago. I pulled a few frames and went back a week or so ago and all of those frames were nearly full of capped brood. we have only had a few days above 60 degrees and I dont want to even open the hive under that. how warm do you think it needs to be before I can do some splits?
Thanx for your videos .......I was watching one where you inadvertently had filmed a very sick looking frame & when you realized it you moved it....... I’dev done the same.....! However why don’t you share with us the negatives and perhaps advise on remedial things to do.....?
I have a single brood box and I had 1 capped swarm cell on the bottom and then I removed that cell. But there is like 4 capped supersedure cells capped on the side of the middle of the frame. Will the hive swarm still with the supersedure cells? Or only swarm from a queen cell at the bottom of the frame? Tnx in advance.
Do you have to split them up? I still haven't started any hives, because I feel I need more education. But, when I do, I just want a couple stacks for personal use... Honey and wax. I don't want to end up with a big huge yard like yours. So you I need to give them away, or can I just let them be?
Once again great informative video. Can you tell me why you use only starter strips in your frames when a lot of people say so much energy and resource is taken up to produce the foundation by the bees and slows down other productivity. look forward to your response.
I'm just starting my splits now from my first season with overwintered bees here in Ireland. If I don't use foundation and add starter strips they will build the frame themselves?
Newbee question... I have caught a nice swarm in a 10 frame hive body, mounted about 8ft high in a tree. I will only be moving the box about 10 feet and placing it on a platform, up off the ground. I plan to move it at night. What can I do to help them with a navigational flight in the morning, so they don't return to the swarm location? Thanks!
Thank you for your great work. Quick question. What would be the best way to do the split and keep both mother hive and new nuc/hive on the same general area/yard?
Put the new Nuc in the same position the original Hive was in. All flying bees out foraging will come back (and increase the new nuc population a lot more. 🐝) Put the original Hive anywhere near by, stuff some green grass in their entrance, after around 24-48 hrs, this wilts, the bees will forget their ex hive location and re align to the new position ! Whether it be 30cm, 3 Metres, or 3KM ! 😉
What is the reason why you use 5 frame boxes compared to the conventional Langstroth 10 frame hive and I also noticed that you don’t add top boxes or honey suppers, how do you get the honey and how do you judge which are frames for honey and not?
This is their breeding yard. These bees only exist for selling, not making honey. They are heavily supplemented with syrup so they can concentrate on hivebuilding.
Barnyard Bees I tried an early spring split when things started blooming. Hive made 6 queen cells. Then we got another weeks of snow and ice. They are now queen less with no hope of making any more cells. I am trying to decide if I should put the bees back in the mother colony or what to do.
I found the introduction a bit long. Needed the information only on the signs that bees are going to swarm. Was frustrated at the fact that I had to sit thru info that I currently don't need or wanted to hear.
Im not a bee keeper but, i love watching your videos and learning about the most amazing thing on our planet.

Just love your videos, can’t wait to get into my hive to find queen cells so I can do a split, so excited to grow my bee family. 💗🐝💗
Thanks again for your help and support Dave!
nice video. made 8 walk aways and 2 with queen cells today.
Look at that nice healthy new comb! Healthy comb begets healthy bees! Another great one-handed video David. Nicely done sir! 🐝🐝🐝☮️
I'm wearing headphones.. I was extremely afraid of them.. I'm descencitising myself.. thank you so much.. i. Actually starting to like and respect bees.

Jimmy that were very nice split, also that were a nice Queen as well.

I use my Arrow staple gun Evan. Seems to work fine.
dave great video.
i currently have 1 8 frame hive packed, not sure to split or put a super on. i can make a few more boxes.
At 5.40 you are missing the queen cup bottom left (if it is polished they are getting ready). Also the first frame you pulled that the bottom edge is wave formed and not a single inverted bell form is also a clear sign.
As always great and informative so dont worry about running long
David thank you for the videos, I have learned a lot from you please keep them coming 🙂

Are drone cells only made and used when swarms are inevitable or are there always some drones about?
Thanks for the great video. I will be performing my split next month should it ever warm up in NH!
Hey David, will bees swarm in August when a dearth is on?
How do you make your nuc boxes?
New beekeepers definitely need to subscribe here....great info!!

Dave, what did you feed the young splits? Just sugar water?
Dear barnyard bee. How you make your bees draw a worker bee comb on a foundationles frames? My bees draw only drone comb. Thank you.

Looks like a queen cup on that bottom drone frame.

Will queens lay on top of pollen, many cells are half or quarter full of pollen what should I do I believe it’s been queenless for a week lots of bees
Where's the video you are referring to around 2.47..??
Do you have to split them up?

i will never ever attempt this 😂 thats what professionals are for😏
but I looooove watching so cool bees are so underated 😊
I tried foundationless frames, but they kep drawing drone comb. What can I do?
Ha David u do a wonderful job with the videos thank u
What would happen if you a accidemtally dropped the frame while they are in this swarm prep state??
I sure do appreciate your helpful videos
Wow great vid sir. How do you manage not being stung sir?
@@davidhaught84 Wow sir you are awesome. Great vid sir!
What does a pollen cell look like?
Do you ever use wax foundation? All the old guys thats teaching me use it so just wondering.
Once again great informative video. Can you tell me why you use only starter strips in your frames when a lot of people say so much energy and resource is taken up to produce the foundation by the bees and slows down other productivity. look forward to your response.
Hi Thanks for reply and I will try this.

Barnyard Bees Thank you sir. Yes, she is already laying and swarm was caught about 2wks ago. Just didn't know when to move it. Thanks!!
Why are your hives so small?
As usual, nice video. My only concern now is where do I put all of these dang bees I got ;)
Thank you for your great work. Quick question. What would be the best way to do the split and keep both mother hive and new nuc/hive on the same general area/yard?

How often do you have a split fail?

Great information. Thank you!
Like always.....Thanks for the information....Keep 'em coming.
What do you do when you have a robbed out have
You doin splits and we can’t get any bees yet. Lol. I’m in West Virginia. Crazy weather.
Thanks for the video. Great information.
How many hives do you all have and how many hives would it take for a person to make a living off of bees full time
Hi, I just installed my bee packages a week ago and they have two queen cells. What do I do? Thank you
Okay sure will
Cold and rain... We got snow again last night and today. 🙃
Never seen shit like this. Its madness to me that they don't sting you
Now could you put that split in a 10 frame box and have a hole new hive
Barnyard Bees hey great thanks for getting back so fast I'm really learning alot from your videos 😁
Excellent stuff thanks for posting.... an ancient Aussie beek
Summer is here already. Crap it's getting hot down here.

Thanks !!
Wow!
Totally confused me sorry

David thank you for the videos, I have learned a lot from you please keep them coming 🙂
