Just watched this, it was great, thanks so much! I am looking forward to Spring and warmth, as I expect you are. Plan to do a few splits as lost a couple of colonies over winter. 😊
Very welcome and thank you, yes looking forward to the new season. Sorry to hear you have lost colonies but it does happen unfortunately. 🐝

Once the Queen was found you should have put her in a Queen cage to allow an unhindered inspection of the remains frames. I note your Queen made it onto the very frame you intended to split off. You were lucky to notice her otherwise your manipulation would have failed
Hi there, yes lots of things could be different in any situation with bees. I filmed the situation as it unfolded and the equipment I brought with me. All went well and a very successful outcome with the cells chosen. 😎

Thanks for your reply however the choice of the open cell could have been considered essential information to pass on which could have contributed to a greater chance of success. I accept however that you did complete this manipulation successfully with your choice of capped cell
Hi, if it’s in the same apiary it’s no problem. I moved the new nuc 2 meters from the main hive. If you are to move the nuc further to a new location, close it up with sticks and grass, once placed in new location pull a little bit of the grass out so the bees are occupied trying to clear the hive entrance. They will start orientation flights, learning their new hive location. 🐝
The new queens will not mate with drones from their own hive so no need to include them purposely with your split. Solid video otherwise! By the way, you can also cut around a capped queen cell and attach to another frame. I cut about half an inch around the cell. Carefully take the cell and gently push a part of the area you cut around the cell into the comb of the new frame.
Hi Julian, true but not always the case in some hives. If you can still see fresh eggs you most likely have time. But for the purpose of the video, the swarm cells were left a little to use. 🐝
I am thinking the queen leaving when there are capped queen cell is mythology. I have seen capped queen cells and the queen in hives. I do move the capped cells with a frame of bees to nuc boxes to create more colonies.
Hi, Just a quick question, I had a very calm hive which I have recently split and now both hives have become very agressive. Is this normal? And will they calm down when the new queen takes control of one of them?
Lots of things can trigger a hive to turn, sometimes it sort’s itself out. I find when a hive has no queen they can be more on edge. Once the new hive settles down with a new queen see how they are with the new generation. The weather can affect them also, look for robbing going on there are so many variables. If your hive posits being nasty you may want to re Queen. Give them a little time 🐝
Yes ! they are nice Queen Cells. But please, be more careful on handling the frames. Never turn upside-down an Q.C after she is caped ( unless you know that this is the 11th day of Queen development.)
Yes this hive was left a little longer for established queen cells. But yes that is a good practice to keep in mind. 🐝

Why destroy the Queen cell which was not fully capped. It’s the only Queen cell you know for sure was not made from a larvae that was 4 days or less old
I just chose the best out of the capped on that situation and film, you can as you say go for an uncapped so you know you have a larvae but I stuck with my guns on this demonstration in using Queen cells. If I cover everything in one video it would be 3 days long and nothing else to film after the fact. Everyone has different techniques and ideas. Plus when you have multiple hives you can play. Thanks for watching 🐝😊
Hi Leandro, I was in the hive quite a long time and the bees as nice as they are were starting to all come back from foraging. With nowhere to go they had to bee moved from the frames and calmed a little. 🐝😊
Would be a better Video if you had WiFi Clip Micros see Richard Noel Brittany Bees YT Vids. He has the best Audio. All I hear here is agitated Bees ! Just saying ... Sorry, not much of a learning tool for New Beeks without better Voiceover, or Subtitle prompts. 🤔
Thanks for Reply : good point. Bees make Buzzy noise when opening up a Hive.... 😏 But as a Learning Tool Video Part 1 and Part 2 should be supported by on screen Text and or Points to what's been 'shown'. We can always see Visuals but if you don't understand what your watching as a Newbie Beek : it isn't much of a learning aid. Another Beek with great screen graphics is David Burns a USA YT Beek. 👀
Love it I use them too to make nucs I don’t like swarms but I love getting cells
There great to use especially when you have a good choice 🐝

Hi, many thanks. How far away did you move the nuc. Do you have any general advice on distances when splitting hives?

Hi Temijin, thanks for comment, yes you are right. I have cut cells and used them but for this vid it was not really needed. 😊🐝
Pretty lucky to have the queen in when there are capped queen cells - as a rule, the queen has already departed

I noticed you painted the feeder. What do you recommend to use?
Hi Andrew, we use masonry paint, I believe it was ‘sandtex’ 🐝

What kind of hive bodies are those? Sounds like styrofoam.
Hi Clinton, yes they are polystyrene hives 🐝
Hello! what is the brand of that poly nuc?
Hi Adam, it’s a Honey paw
How much smoke to use
Hi Yvonne, it really depends on the bees, I try not to over smoke them. So just enough to move them out the way and calm them if needed. 😊🐝
whats the difference between larvae & brood?
Brood is to describe all the stages in the cells 🐝
she will leave they have made up there mind
Hi Gray, no in fact she is going strong. As long as you know what you are doing in a situation like this, not all Queens will leave. 🐝
Why are you smoking does bees that much?
Hi Leandro, I was in the hive quite a long time and the bees as nice as they are were starting to all come back from foraging. With nowhere to go they had to bee moved from the frames and calmed a little. 🐝😊

Yes audio via mic would be better, early days still. But then, if you are in an open beehive you are going to hear bees. 🙂

I will say they were overly noisy that day, you have some good points. Thanks for comment 🙂
@@ME_MeAndMyBees Make your own videos then Einstein; this was easy to follow for anyone with half a brain 🏴👍🏼
I stopped watching as soon as he turned the queen cell upside down.
