Love your channel. My bees swarmed while I was off doing good things for an animal rescue. The little buzzers were kind enough to stay in the apple tree until I was done. Managed to find them, shake them into a box. Thought of you whan I saw the queen and managed to cage her. The "march" was beautiful. Even said "Thank-you Jesus" when seeing that beautiful young yellow queen. Truly a lovely moment. You are an excellent influence, Jeff. Watching you has taught me so much.
Hi Mr. Ed. Canada here. I’ve been binge watching your videos and just love watching how you save bees. You give good information. It’s amazing. I get so excited when you find the Queen! You’re God’s bee keeper. Thanks for all you do. ❤️
Finally! After watching your channel for the last 3 years, I was able to quickly spot the queen on a frame before you pointed her out. Thank you, Jesus!
I grew interested in bees when the news stories mention the shrinking populations. By producing honey, bee keepers seem to be doing a win win result of increasing the population and making honey. Thanks Jeff!
Mr. Ed, you and Randy, The Dirt Rooster, are in the beekeepers dream area! I'm learning that I'll have to take a slightly different approach being in SW Missouri, we can get much colder and the flows of nectar are nothing compared to yours. Somethings are still universal though, Thanks for putting out the videos.
Closing comment, that tiredness comes from a good day of being good. enjoy your reward. All good beers, ale, stout and such comes from well cared for hives of bees. Aloha from Oahu!
Hello there, Jeff. I enjoyed watching you video very much. That was a beautiful buxom queen. You and Charlie worked very hard. May all your hives prosper. God bless and see you soon.
Had a swarm January 9th and no swarm cells just empty cups and very small drone production. Strange year so far. Enjoyed the video and about age and working hives I'll be 71 Saturday and still going strong. God bless.
Mr Ed. . .i love your channel Before my hubs unexpectedly Passed in 2012-we had visited His sister in Silver Spring, MD Who is a hobbyist beekeeper. He was interested in hobbyist hives. . . But sadly, suddenly passed. Unable to afford living independently, I moved from Ohio to Utah to live with my daughter And it’s TOO densely populated here for hobbyist hives (Average size of lots are 1/10th of an acre to 1/8th Of an acre. . .though I’m game to try.
I strongly support your effort to become a beekeeper, the world needs as many as it can get. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 450 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video almost every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Patricia. Mr. Ed
Charley gets my vote on this one. How anybody can work a camera as good as he does and bee covered up in bees deserves some credit! You're in and out all the time which is no small feat in itself but I'm in it from a bystanders viewpoint and Charley gets my vote, as well as you. And yall need a Ralph video to round things out. Jesus weekend and GBWYall!
Thanks for sharing. Doing my first split on Saturday. Will have all my tools ready to go tonight. Update This morning we split the hive. I picked up a queen from Bee Weaver yesterday. I keep saying our goal is to find the queen. Frame after frame of brood seeing eggs and larva I knew she was there. We found our ginormous queen. I was shocked to see her. Thank you for your RUclips channel. I was calm and got the job done.
You guys are Ninjas! Wowee 21 splits! I can’t tell you enough how rewarding your videos are Mr Ed and good time Charlie! Oh and Wrecking Ralph! I learn something every time I watch! Sally from Dorset UK. 🐝🐝
Hey Mister Ed! I just built my first beehive and my bees are waiting for me at the post office. I'm finally going to be a beekeeper, thanks to you and Dirt Rooster. Happy Easter!
Your videos always have such a wholesome vibe, and I love it! I used to not be able to watch videos of bees just because, of my fear of them. But now I binge watch your videos 😅❤
I've been doing some splits using one of C.C. Miller's methods. I'm on Round 2 Now. I should be splitting about 3-4 off every 9 days. Thanks for Sharing!
Great video. This year I'm doing my splits by swarm, not by choice, bee's will be bee's. And my cutout partner Lucy says the queen bee isn't fat, she's just "a sturdy girl". God bless.
You guys are great , loved the video, man those boxes had so much bees and not to have swarm cells was crazy. thanks for making it, keep on making them and I'll keep watching , God bless
Hi Jeff from Montana, just wanted to share something related to wax rendering, I used my reciprocating saw to scrape the crud off the bottom of my wax (the same saw you use on the sheetrock bee removals) wow soooo much easier!!! quick fast and easy on the hands :)
That is hard work. Looks like your honey crop is going to be good. Looking forward to keeping up with your honey flow. Always learning from your videos. Thanks guys. God bless.
The video was really, interesting. 21 splits is insane! What happens when there are no brood and swarm cells? What will happen to the queenless hive? This video was really well made and I can’t wait to see more! You have been uploading way more consistently which I like, a great job well done.
Jeff thanks for doing that first hive split like that walk away. The one that does not have a queen how long after everything should it take the new queen to start to laying eggs . As always thanks for all you do. We have had a lot of rain so I know this is keeping my queens in a little longer . Thanks 🙏
You do a lot of cutouts. You said you manage about 150 beehives. What do you do with the extra swarms you catch and your cutouts? I believe you have a contract with all the church yards? How much beehives do you keep in 1 Yard? Great videos! Love it all!! Thank you Jesus!!
Aloha Jeff, With each location, comes it's potential. With your area, there is a limited window for Swarms to succeed and you portrait it well. My location, Hawaii, had also 'windows' of opportunities for bees and honey production, just without the death of a colony for failure. They may Abscond to an area within their queen range of flight or flights ranging from a few hundred yards to up to 8 miles, weather permitting. If she tires over water, as do many swarms of windy North Kohala, local fishermen benefit. This one area was famous for it's Splashed Down Swarms that the fishermen named it, ' Honeybee'. If you were out trolling here and we're to find a swarm of bees, it was where you stopped trolling and we're to start casting over the splashed down bees to catch the Mahimahi fish feeding on the bees . Since the bees wouldn't be abandoning their queen, now wet and drowning, one by one the swarm would try to save her. Well. I guess you can guess the outcome. A happy fisherman.
21 splits in a single day👍 super good job (see what I did there?) Too bad we don’t have the energy like when we were young, but good to push yourselves now and then. Interesting video, my friend.👍😊💕
Aloha Jeff and Charlie, Just wanted to note how Queen less hive sound here that may be different. To me, if I hear a Sad droning hum, I know something is wrong with the queen or the brood and making a through inspection revels it. Inspection shows a old queen's faultering laying pattern or that she has outright failed and now is just a drone layer. Other things about either the queen or the brood show up and focusing on these saves you from a Absconding Swarm and lose of a colony. Have you noticed this Sad Song that a Troubled Hive sings?
Thanks again for a great video! Quick question, have you ever had your split drift back into the original hive when setting up in close proximity? Thanks! Rachel and John from Ohio, God Bless!
I can't find the episode, when there is more bees than than the box, or something like that, watch that where all those dead bees were, those bees are really fighting, I don't know much about bees buy it looked to me like they were trying to kill each other and the queen too, please explain please
I don't know how you do it. You have a gift. Can I ask you a question? This year I have my hives supered early and the colonies are getting quite large. Should I split or keep adding supers so they don't swarm? Thoughts?
Hey Bug Farmer ! 😏 You could do either. Just check the Boxes on a eg, x7 day cycle, to check for any Queen Cups or Queen Cells. Better to management your way out of a Swarm, than to have to lose a Swarm ! Hope this helps. Sure Mr. Ed will answer. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Can't wait for the Bee Season to Start here in Scotlnd 🏴 . Its been really cold here for April, just getting 7C or Mid 40's. Come on Spring, spring ! 🌼
Brood that has been capped for more than a week and the cappings have turned very dark. Great question, thanks for asking and for watching. God's peace Greg. Mr. Ed
If you want more bees I can hook you up with a couple that has a huge hive in the wall of their shed near poplarville ms. Or if you know someone who does rescue/extractions I'm that area ,please let me know. I'm a beekeeper in Iowa and it's too far to transplant otherwise I would get them.
So neat. I still don't understand the whole "split" idea as if they don't have a queen in the hive, won't they just die off if they don't have a queen cell ready to go? Again, just things I don't understand. I'm learning though...but I'm old...and learning is hard now. :) The REAL question we're all wanting to know the answer to. Number of Swarms for Jeff and the Number of Swarms for the Dirt Rooster? Need to know the score Jeff.
Bees can make a queen from any fertilised egg or larva less then 3 days old. They just pick a specific larva and just give it so much royal jelly its swimming in it and as it gets bigger they expand the cell to cater to the new queen.
If it gets to be close to swarm time why not just putt boxes out for the swarm bees to find that's close to the original hives. Let the bees do the work from the start? Just curious that's all
As my goal in keeping bees is to harvest the surplus honey the bees produce. However, if the bees are allowed to swarm, they produce no surplus honey for me to get. But, if I split them I keep the swarm AND get the honey, a real win win for me. Thanks for watching and asking. God's peace Sheri. Mr. Ed
Charlie has the smoothest voice. Great helper for Mr. Ed.

Good to see you're taking notes for Fred!!! 😉
God bless you. Getting all those bees into the right place is no easy chore. Thank Jesus you got the queen.

Mr Ed, I feel your pains! I started keeping bees to get off the couch and now because of the bees I can’t get on the couch! lol

Hello Jeff and Charlie. Nice job with the bees today. Good luck with the splits. Thank you for the videos. 🇺🇸

How long does it take for the capped brood to emerge
What type of bees do u keep? They seem aggressive.
What is the benefit of nettle for bees?
I need your help getting some bees in my box tomorrow. It's at jazz fest.
Never mind I got them
What do you mean by old brood?
Brood that has been capped for more than a week and the cappings have turned very dark. Great question, thanks for asking and for watching. God's peace Greg.

How many actual ways in a number... are there to split a hive. I'm looking for a number not an explanation.
I'v e never seen an actual number for the different ways to make a split, but I bet it's over 30. God's peace C.J.

Give me a call when you can.
You're rught abiout there being no 100% gaurentee with splits. there's no 100% gaurentee with anything when you're working with bees.
You do well, but far from religion, get to know Islam.
