Some times I wish I knew about Asia more a lot earlier in my life. Feels like a regret of mine almost. One of my dreams was to shake John Wetton's hand and to finally met the band or to see them live. However, I grew up not knowing much about things like tours and such until I got a lot older. Certain Mr. Wetton passed around the time I was struggling with third grade, where I was constantly moving. I'm in love with Asia, their music especially. If I never knew about it, I don't know where I'd be right now. I hope John's doing well even after he has passed on. Asia inspires me in ways I cannot easily describe.
Love a musician today, and remember the great ones we've lost but will join again one day! Rest in Power, Chris, Greg, John, Keith, and sadly, recently, Vangelis and Alan White. You will all be missed. Till we meet again~
Carl Palmer is an absolute beast of epic porportions on the drums here. i caught a show with he and the standard ASIA lineup a couple of years ago and he performed a stunning drum solo during the 'fanfare for the common man'... unbelieveable.
Saw them during the Asian Invasion '82 tour at Kingswood Theatre, Toronto. I still recall Carl's drum solo in the middle of the tune - then the kit started rotating. Highlight of the show. RIP John Wetton. Epic voice and musical talent. Thanks for all the great music over the decades.
Reminiscing about my Memories in the past when the Music hit in City of MALANG Exchange cassettes among friends & discuss .. ASIA is The Best Rhythm Music. Japan Fantastic Concert .. 👍👍👍
this is the 1st time i ever say this video,i recorded this concert back in 1983 on m.t.v. after i saw them in pittsburgh on aug 27th with john wetton, but what really got me.steve howe didn't use his danelectro coral sitar on this tune in pitt.just listening to him play this on this video, harkens back to the close to the edge days.
Talk about beautiful music. This one was made to be Heard. I wonder "How"e" The Europian Song Contest Crue would think ..., after they had Heard this one. This is To brutal . Carl Palmer is the one that finaly makes the finish of touch...
If they would have continued with Gregg Lake, I believe they would have come up with great songs..Gregg Lake fit in perfectly...he sings very similar to John Wetton...
Greg Lake was a perfect replacement for John Wetton, and he could have stayed with ASIA for a long time, but Wetton makes "the scene" like one would say about any other band, so, Lake is good, but no one can replace Wetton.
Why the hell the keyboard was turned onto a wall.... was it a prank? Was that guy grounded? Too much drugs? A bet? Too stupid for this world? Craziness? By the way, everything else was amazing, as Asia always is!
Bragging rights. He'd had stacks to all sides in the previous tour and he ran out of sides! Downes was always a first-rate keyboard orchestrator and he didn't want to give up what he was doing in the studio. Now, to an extent this is overkill in that if there were such-and-such keyboard he wanted on one hand and another keyboard on the other hand, he'd locate them on the same stack or at least adjacent stacks. This is essentially pre-MIDI so he couldn't just have a small number of controllers running racks of instruments. So this is overkill but you know, in progressive rock, "more" generally equals "good."
No. it is Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (as in Asia drummer Carl Palmer). Lake joined the band briefly after John Wetton left or was fired depending on who is telling the story.
I though Greg Lake was okay as a replacement for John Wetton, but this lineup didn't last long. I do think Wetton is the better singer. He was also the first person I ever remember seeing using a pick on a bass guitar.
Yeah, I agree. Lake was great for ELP and stuff he did, but for Asia, it is as though Wetton owns it. Not really a 'Crimson fan, so I like to think Asia is his thing.
Pick on bass in the 1960s was very much a British thing. McCartney always used one, Entwistle used one part of the time, The Nice's Lee Jackson used one. So did the Experience's Noel Redding, Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott. Fingerstyle came primarily from American rock and R&B in my estimation
Greg Lake . one of the best voices in the UK, but not suitable for Asia's sound, John Wetton is the right guy for the group. Greg should have stuck to Tarkus
Absolutely my favorite Asia song. The jam at the end is incredible!!!!
Mine are Here Comes The Feeling and Midnight Sun
My favorite Asia song. R.I.P. John Wetton.. We miss you dearly.
Yes definitely has a full band AND another band on the bench that is loaded with all world class players.
E.L.P. IS INCREDIBLE !!! Palmer was my fav in high school... then you have YES on the bench BWAAHHH. SO much talent . All excellent !!!
People who don't recognize the greatness of ASIA, and the talents and gifts of musical genius, are fools. Period.
But we do so.... Kind regards from México... A huge fan here...
I couldn't agree more, saw them in the mid 80's, awesome show😅😊

How did you like the three original-lineup reunion albums?
Howe's solo is a work of art. 100% Balls and feeling.
Open your eyes is a masterpiece!

Hooray! It's ALP! (Asia, Lake & Palmer)
Or YLP (Yes, Lake & Palmer)

Crazy seeing Greg Lake fronting for 3 shows in Japan.

One of the best live versions
Damn....Greg really nailed down all Asia songs
Wetton was great! Greg is immortal talent!
Greg Lake has an awsome voice, reminds me of the crimsom king!
RIP Greg Lake, 7 December 2016 :-(
the best rock band of the 80s rip john
R.I.P John! You was allways my Inspiration! I mis you! And Greg Lake to!
Howe and Downes are underrated
Reminiscing about my Memories in the past when the Music hit in City of MALANG Exchange cassettes among friends & discuss .. ASIA is The Best Rhythm Music. Japan Fantastic Concert .. 👍👍👍
Love John Wetton but MAN this is just too cool. :D Lake sounds awesome singing these tunes.
Hoping that, some day, this will be released on blu ray!
Not a lot of point since it was recorded in SD. There might be some AI-based upscaling available now but I doubt the result would be very pleasing.
Great!!! What else can I say...
" 2:13 You have looked at magazine girls, wishing that they were you" Brilliant!
really good, I never saw them in concert in france, lucky you're all of you....
thanks for video!
Great, just to remenber groups and music that will never be made again

This is one best progresiive rock group
Watchign Geoff Downes manage that keyboard rig during this concert is one of my favourite spectator sports.

Steve Howe was on fire on those Gibson ES-Artists during this show.
God created over a Trillion musical notes. I think Steve Howe knows most of them.
No, God knows all the notes, Steve just knows where to put them. Love.
Jarvis Bonner In fact it‘s 46 or 48 on an electric guitar with 22 or 24 frets. Anyway: He is one of the greatest guitarists in rock.
@@HarryGuit yep, up there with David Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix.
The best oh yes band and ELP
Makes me wish they had done a studio album with Greg Lake. What if.....
Yeah if they would have done just one album and a tour with Greg Lake Man that would have been history!
Hard to believe there are still some very nice people who don't have a clue who ASIA is.
He wasn't but was sitting in for John Wetton for this concert. Their voices are similar and apparently Greg can also play bass, so it worked well.
Greg was an amazing bass player so yes, he could play bass.
este tema es aor con cositas de musica clasica en el tecladio mu bueno
Steve howe e Greg Lake juntos 🤩🤩🤩🤩
RIP Greg Lake
rolon una obra de arte todo letra, interpretacion ejecucion++++++
Asia = GOAT
Super..
FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!
Why isn’t ASIA in the HOF? Let’s go, let’s go, lets go already!
That rock and roll "hof" is a joke. Kinda xucks.
GREEEEEGGGGGGG
I'm sorry. You are saying that Greg Lake, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer are crappy? Who would you prefer, may I ask?
I think Geoff Downs needs more keyboards. You know, to REALLY pull this off...
He had nine when I saw him. You're right - another eight to ten more would fit perfectly!
Baru tau Greg Lake jd vokalis Asia..wow
If they would have continued with Gregg Lake, I believe they would have come up with great songs..Gregg Lake fit in perfectly...he sings very similar to John Wetton...
I don't remeber Greg Lake ws used to be in Asia.

@szikcsova- What a comment! At least you have an opinion, more people should be independent thinkers ;)
And no, it is not their best set.
Greg Lake FTW
ok...my favorite song...but.... tJW was in the orig. --his voice very very good nice nice nice nine of teen

Greg Lake....BAH!
I dont know but the song lacks something. Dont get me wrong the song is very good.
Yeah, it does not have Wetton's voice.
HOWE is not at his best on guitar; but is that lead vocalist from the MOODY BLUES
No. it is Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (as in Asia drummer Carl Palmer). Lake joined the band briefly after John Wetton left or was fired depending on who is telling the story.
Same hair as Justin Hayward - but no.
Howe is not at his best???? WTF?? Absolutely brilliant and gutsy solo!!!
@@arleco12 ikr?? This concert is basically peak Howe. He was on fire on those Gibson ES-Artists.
Why is the keyboardist have his back facing us?
Because his keyboards' keys are facing us.

Странно слушать эту композицию в исполнении Грега Лейка, хотя знаем , что он был приглашен, как сессионный музыкант.. Но все же..

Until 2017 Roger Waters used a pick on the bass guitar.
Chuck Panozzo of Styx used a pick as well

This is not john wetton
Wow.. How did you guess... It is Greg Lake.
why did not join wetton?? too much drunken??
