Ive had my Allant +7 since this spring(2020) absolutely love this bike. I had a heart attack a few years ago, so my doctor suggested i get an ebike for exercise. I go out everyday on my bike , i put about 40-50 kilometres each day on it. I find i can easily ride about 25 kilometres an hour with ease. The bike is not that heavy compared to other bikes on the market 47 lbs. i find for extra exercise i shut off the motor during the ride and just pedal like a regular bike.when i tired i put it in sport mode and basically pretend to pedal and it zooms along just fine. Best thing i ever purchased for my heart health and loads of fun. I can now keep up with my 25 year old son on his Giant Roam ,road bike with ease, haven’t been able to do that for years.
This Trek Allant+7 E-bike was broken down & detailed very well! You hit all of the most crucial/technical (selling) points that aren't shown in detail throughout alot of other channels including Trek themselves! Please keep up the good work & if possible can you review the Trek Domane E-bike as I'm using the Allant review as a slight basis off possibly buying that 1!
Great review, thanks a lot. Want to buy this bike for my mum and i discovered so many things that weren't written on their site, so you were really helpful.
Wow, that was the best most concise ebike review I’ve seen. I’ve test driven the Allant+ 7S Stagger and I’m seriously considering a purchase for $4007.00. The shop only has the large frame and I’m 6’2”. Also, they only have the quicksilver color.
I just bought it. I absolutely love it. Gravel, commuting and riding it without motor turned on and power repeats. I love this machine. Dual Sports! Absolutely. Brilliant machine. Buy in Silver! Buy one today you will love it. If you are in metro NYC come ride with our ebike club.
I was able to try out the Bosch Performance Line CX system (the motor) on a Scott bike earlier today and can attest to the reactiveness of it. As soon as I was putting down pressure, the motor was right in line with me. Helpful from starts especially when in or crossing traffic. Adds a lot to the ride experience and made me feel more powerful even though I could see I was going the same speed as the specialized before it! thanks for the review. this looks like a great option! I'll have to try out the S version.
Trek's Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) makes it impractical to remove the battery when transporting the bike. Since the battery and cover are a single unit, when the battery is removed, the battery compartment is exposed to the elements. This is not ideal when transporting the bike on back of a vehicle. One possible solution would be for Trek to offer a cover for the battery compartment.
You point out the two handed battery attachment but it looks better than the struggle with Vado batteries. Nice to see a good solid engagement with no effort or doubt about if it’s in properly
That's a great point, Joe. It does feel very secure, and I didn't hear it rattling or anything. Just trying to be thorough, do you feel like I over-emphasized this point?
What a nice bike - well executed design! The step-thru option is super nice for those of us over age 60. Personally, I don't need a lot of bottle cage mounts. One mount for my lock is enough - I'll have my insulated water bottles in my panniers.
Sweet! Glad you liked this one, Trek always does a good job with their bikes. They're one of the "big three" so I put a lo of energy trying to eke out the details and scrutinize their designs. I like the way this bike looks.
You know, I stopped watching video reviews a couple years ago because I had issues with being paid by the manufacturer to review products, especially when the owner of the company was there for the entirety of the review and criticisms were muted or sugar-coated, however this was a terrific, top notch review, very thorough. Nice! Yeah, I'll keep my eyes out for the Domane+ LT. I was really impressed with the road models from Specialized this year and had mixed feelings about the Fazua motor on the BULLS Alpine Hawk EVO electricbikereview.com/bulls/alpine-hawk-evo/
Great review. I am really interested in this as a future step up from the Trek Duel Sport e that I have now. My only concern is the engine sound you mention which there is none of on the Duel Sport. I notice other folks here dont mention the noise as a concern however. It looks amazing.
Great review as always, thank you so much. I was looking for a Verve 3+ 2020 review but enjoyed learning all about the Allant+ 7. Do you plan to review the Verve 3+ this year? Is the Allant+ 7 somewhat similar?
A very excellent review. I already own a trek electric, but does not have a front fork suspension like this one. I am considering this one, because I believe this would be better on my shoulders.
You said the weight was just over 47 pounds but I rode a + 7S and it was about 57 pounds which was quite heavy, heavier feeling than the + 8 S that I also rode
I was wondering why this video is playing really well without buffering then I noticed this was before you switched to the 60fps. Instead of 60fps, why not just use a higher resolution (2k or 4k) on your newer videos?
What's up Court been checking out Chris videos from Propel when you guys going to do another ride along? Really enjoyed the one you guys did in New York.
Great question, I was going to visit Chris in Long beach this month, but changed plans based on flights and lodging stuff going on. Hopefully a bit later this year we will connect :)
How does this compare to Gazelle Medeo T10, Bulls Iconic Evo 1 750 Diamond? Which one would be easier on hills. I’m a casual rider that use to go mtn biking when I lived in Vanc Island as a kid. I’m 58 now in Vancouver Canada and has gone through open heart surgery recently. Thx
Great question, Santiago. I bought these on Amazon a while back and here's the link: amzn.to/2wYMG96 They are called Global Vision Eyewear Classic-2 Anti-Fog Goggles
Fabulous review. What year was this model? Seems that current ‘23 is using different wheels and tires (and possibly some other changes) and the motor I believe is 85nm. Thanks.
How does one decide between an Allante and a Powerfly for a commuter to work? I want to be able to power up all the long hills to reduce my overall commute time. Is the Allante significantly faster because it’s a bit more road oriented?
I'm not too sure about the gear shift sensing of the Bosch. I have two e-bikes, one with a Bosch CX with supposed shift sensing and one with the Yamaha PWSE and I can't tell any difference in shifting gears between the two motors.
Thanks for the review very helpful. I've been looking for a commuter with the new gen 4 performance CX motors. I have a few questions, can you clarify why a cx motor doesn't have the eMTB mode? Ive tried one on a mountain bike, and oh boy the first thought I had was this would be very useful in a daily hauler commuter. I love the dynamic assist in that mode, standing at a red light on a high gear... I just dont understand why its not available, the hardware is ready for it, why not give us emtb mode?? If that mode is not going to be avaialble in non mountain bike CX motors, whats the point of getting it vs a regular performance motor? Im glad to see that trek has switched to an actual rear rach rather than that weird rack that is lower than the fender and we cant put a child seat on it. Which brings me to the next question, can you fit a Yepp Nexxt Maxi on that rack, are the bars aprallel and I heard you said rated 45lbs, so just need to know if we need another adapter. The dipping top tube is very helpful when you have a child on the back and you cant swing your leg around to get on the saddle. Was there a place on the underside of the frame for a more robust double leg kickstand? I'm still waiting for that perfect ebike for my needs, hanging tight to see if Tern updates the GSD with the new motors anytime this year, otherwise, this looks like a promising alternative. Thanks.
Good question, Serge. My friend Chris at Propel once mentioned that dealers can update the software for Bosch... and my interpretation was that you could switch to the eMTB or Sport with the help of a willing dealer. Now, it seems like Trek locks some of their systems down, like the headlights on the Allant+ 7 here. Even with the standard Sport and Turbo here, you still get dynamic power output from the motor, which I was trying to demonstrate late in the ride test when the bike was in Turbo but the motor wasn't blaring, because I was pedaling gently. For me, the point of getting a CX motor is the sporty feel and higher torque (though I realize the lines are getting blurred with 2020 models, I haven't actually seen any standard Performance Line motors yet). Good call on the rack improvements here, you are correct that the older ones weren't compatible with trunk bags or child seats... I'm not sure this one could handle a child seat either. I actually just called a Trek dealer to ask about child seats like the Yepp! Nexxt Maxi, and the dealer wasn't completely sure, so I'm going to ask Trek directly ;)
@@ElectricBikeReview Thanks for tall that info, do let me know what you find out from Trek as it could be nerve wracking putting a child seat on that rack without knowing if its designed for it or not. I wouldn't hace cared too much and gotten an after market rack, but the seat stays dont look like they have side eyelets for attachment.
I'm shopping for a e-bike and my two favorites are Trek Allant+ 7 and the Specialized Turbo Vado 3.0. In your opinion, which one is the best option for commuting?
Hi Stephen, my understanding is that you can use the PowerPack 500 as a second battery for the Allant+ 7 as long as it's the high-step and you can use it for the Allant+ 7S for high-step and staggered (what I call mid-step). I don't know for sure on the Verve 3+ but I'll get info when I look at that bike later this year :D
its just like a regular bike in that respect nothing different or difficult when it comes to fixing a flat since this is not a hub drive basically a regular wheel that most manual bikes have hope this helps
Just brought Allant 7 + step through. Love it. Have done three 50 km trips.Road and bike paths The bike E performance excellent . The only thing is should have come with seat suspension post standard to complement the front suspension forks. I will need to buy it.
Trek is the best! I currently have a DualSport 2 and am looking to buy an electric bike in leiu of my car; thanks for the thorough info on this Allant model😊🚴♀️!
Amazing Court. Trek is a big name. Them getting into eBikes will help in the revolution. Can you also add the weight numbers in KG or grams whenever u say pounds! Also can you confirm if this has a Torque based PAS or a Cadence PAS? Will help your international viewers. Awesome job. Keep it up.
Nice bike, but not upright enough for me. Center drive ebikes are much more pricey than real-wheel drive, but I'm also told that anything below 2K is garbage (this is from bike mechanics).
Is there any way to porotect the battery contacts on the bike? Say outdoor parking and rainy days when you take the battery in to work to charge? I am nervous leaving a lithium battery in a parking lot that is over 100F+ in the summer.
So any comment on how long one can expect an EBike to last at 2,000 miles a year? I understand a lot of variables involved, I just don't want to lay out $5k and be broke in year with big bills. in 5 years - okay.
If it helps, I've had my Trek Super Commuter 8s for 2 and a half years (over 6,000 miles) I'm on my second chain, cassette and tires and brakes pads. No breakdowns or repairs other than routine maintenance. I highly recommend as a daily Commuter.
@@rangerreese801 I pulled the trigger today. Went into the LBS looking for the 2020 Allant 9.9s (carbon model, $6k). The 2019 Super Commuter 8+ is my size was there -$1k. $4259. No 3-7 days from remote warehouse wait (and now with everything non-essential closing) - the 2019 model became all the more clear to get it TODAY. I kind of was expecting a slightly more aggressive mountain bike position like my hardtail.
@@rangerreese801 1 year later, 1074 miles. One of the rear rack bolts started to works its way loose. Fix that today. Had 1 rear flat. Took 3 hours to fix that. Most of which was figuring out how to get the rear wheel out, and another 2 hours to figure out how to get the tire back on the rim.. The Schawble guys told me the rim tape Bontrager used is too thick. I did get the computer upgrade last fall. Felt smoother out of the shop, now I can't tell a difference, The computer appears to display range miles remaining that are more realistic with that update.
Thanks for the excellent and informative video. I am considering purchasing a new pedelec and your video provided some very useful information. My current bike has a rear hub motor which is totally silent and it seems like the motor on this Trek model is very noisy. Does it sound that noisy when you are riding it?
Hi Senachie! The sound is noticeable, but if you listen to different parts of my ride in the video here, you can see that when the camera is mounted to the bike it sounds different than when I hold the camera in my hand and point it around. When you're actually pedaling, there's air passing by your ears, and there's also the sound of the road and gravel... so the motor noise is drown out a bit. For me, it's not too bad, but this motor is definitely louder than some of the Brose motors that I covered on BULLS ebikes recently, check out the LACUBA EVO LITE here for comparison: electricbikereview.com/bulls/lacuba-evo-lite/

Active line+625Wh could make this a decent touring bike. But once again, a 500Wh battery... with subpar components. Better to get a CX+625Wh since you´re getting basically the same range, but with much better components. Adapting it for touring is pretty easy. Like Giant, they should be ashamed to keep releasing 500Wh batteries with 2020 models. Other manufacturers have had 700Wh batteries since 2018!
@@cramerlong2276 I wasn´t talking about price, I was taking about a meager battery and lousy components, which is precisely the case. BH bikes or Bulls have been offered those for the last couple of years. I recommend using a detailed e-bike search to find brands that suit you.
@@1650million Not sure what you are talking about: I see no Bulls or BH Under $4 K With Bigger Batteries : Plus an Active Line Bosch with 625 Battery would be an enormous Range : Most of the ACTIVE LINE Bosch Equipped Bikes I've seen were Under $3.000. Why am I paying 3500.00 for a bike that only goes 20MPH?? I can do 20MPH on my regular bike. That works out to $175.00 for every mile per hour. Seems lame.
Good review, Court. So which would you recommend more? Dost Kope or this Trek Allant+ 7? Seems like the feature set, ergonomics and price favor the Kope, but the dealer network for the Trek is a big plus.
What’s the maximum slope grade this will be comfortable on? I live in a town with some 30 degree slopes. I am looking for a ebike which makes it slopes bikable up
I have the one of the higher spec Allants from 2019, and I love it. But it hasn't been without it's problems, namely the computer mount snapped within a week, then the rear hub crapped out after 400 miles which resulted in a few trips back and forth to the retailer, after some confusion that the motor might have been the cause of bizarre grinding noises, also the brake pistons seized up after 3 months of riding. Any way, those problems got worked out in the end but frustrating that I had to worry about it all, given the premium you pay for a Trek. I can relate to the observation about the battery mechanism being irritating, removing it at a bike stand where I leave it locked for the day, I wish it was simpler with the battery ejecting from the same side as the lock mechanism, but it's a minor niggle and the carbon frame and higher spec drive train on my 9.9 model is a joy to ride, no doubt the 7 is sufficient for those who don't want to stretch to premium components, I know I would be happy with this spec if I had to buy again. The only thing that concerns me about the bike is that the rack, mudguard and headset systems are propriety and I worry about how easy it will be to source parts in the future as the bike ages. On the plus side, Trek do a lifetime frame warranty, so presumably any serious frame issues will be honored, but 'consumables' could still be problematic.
I try to cover a mix of ebikes, like from different categories and price points. Sometime soon I'm planning to put a survey up on the forums where people can request and vote for ebikes and then we will buy them, review, and create a giveaway. Are there any specific ebikes you'd like to see?
ProseColored Glasses yeah well 500-1000 dollars is still money I’d like to spend wisely even to casually mess around, which is exactly what I intend to purchase one for
ElectricBikeReview.com I’d love to see any model from any of the budget brands that you haven’t covered yet, ecotric fat tire and/or the folding bike, the hyper e-ride, swagtron eb-6 or eb-8, the new ancheer cruiser, there are a bunch, any nakto models
@@ElectricBikeReviewBoth bikes rock, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Vado. I love the Brose motor, super smooth, silent, and more torque than a Bosch gen4 motor. Bosch dominates the e-bike motor market, in terms of market share, but do they make the best motors? It will be interesting to see how long Bosch can maintain their dominance as the competition continuous to improve their offerings, Bafang comes to mind.
That is a high price for a bicycle with an electric motor, battery powered with an auxiliary battery as an option. . Notice, the video shows use on a rural trail, on gravel, but there is no protection for the chain drive from sand and grit. Even on a city street, I would want to have a protected drive system. Poor design, in my opinion!

Thank you for the very thorough review.
Great review man 🔥
Another great review!
Excellent review, it was a big help. Can you share the the helmet model you are using? Thanks
Can you please do review for Allant+ 7 2023 version? I know it's mostly same but it has few upgrades and different colors.
you should cover the new trek alliant that came out
How does this compare to Gazelle Medeo T10, Bulls Iconic Evo 1 750 Diamond? Which one would be easier on hills. I’m a casual rider that use to go mtn biking when I lived in Vanc Island as a kid. I’m 58 now in Vancouver Canada and has gone through open heart surgery recently. Thx
Agreed that this was a well-done review.
Why can't the lights set to blink and saving me buying severate front and rear blinkers for both day and night rides?????
Hi! What brand of glasses you’re wearing thks
Great question, Santiago. I bought these on Amazon a while back and here's the link: amzn.to/2wYMG96 They are called Global Vision Eyewear Classic-2 Anti-Fog Goggles
Appreciate your review.
Fabulous review. What year was this model? Seems that current ‘23 is using different wheels and tires (and possibly some other changes) and the motor I believe is 85nm. Thanks.
Lumins, Lux. What's the difference in light measurements for bike lights. What's best?
Thanks for the review. What's the difference between this and powerfly4. which one do you recommend.
Really nice bike. Tires choices in this size seems limited though, unless I'm missing something.
Great review. Thanks
Awesome review. Is that the Bontrager City Shopper Pannier? Thanks.
Between this bike and the Specialized Turbo Vado, which one do you think is more comfortable? Which one sets you up higher in the front?
Nice.
Almost 50 million views 😲👍♥️
Thanks!! :D happy Friday
I wouldn't hace cared too much and gotten an after market rack, but the seat stays dont look like they have side eyelets for attachment.
pretty good review..though it would have been better on an all paved surface (stone noise between tires and guards)...hard to hear then motor.
I'm shopping for a e-bike and my two favorites are Trek Allant+ 7 and the Specialized Turbo Vado 3.0. In your opinion, which one is the best option for commuting?
What's the spec of the rear thru axle? I'm trying to figure out what adapter to get with the Burley kid carrier.
Court am I correct that you cannot use a powerpack 500 as the 2nd battery on the Allant or the Verve 3+ ?
Hi Stephen, my understanding is that you can use the PowerPack 500 as a second battery for the Allant+ 7 as long as it's the high-step and you can use it for the Allant+ 7S for high-step and staggered (what I call mid-step). I don't know for sure on the Verve 3+ but I'll get info when I look at that bike later this year :D
nice review, would like to know how hard it is to fix a flat? Is it doable, are the wheels and tires easy to get off, or does it need to go to a shop?
its just like a regular bike in that respect nothing different or difficult when it comes to fixing a flat since this is not a hub drive basically a regular wheel that most manual bikes have hope this helps
What e-bike brand is better on your opinion: specialize or trek
Awfully picky on this weren’t you? Maybe I am too, as always did appreciate your insight.
Just brought Allant 7 + step through.
Love it.
Have done three 50 km trips.Road and bike paths
The bike E performance excellent .
I’m looking for an electric bike for my wife. Do you know if the battery in the Allant is interchangeable with the battery in my Dual Sport +.
Is the suspension decent? Could I go off a curb and be fine?
do you think the rack works with normal paniers (arkel)
Yes, it does, that’s what I use
@@rangerreese801 Thanks. Sounds like they hold up. I've had my other 2 bikes 17 years... I could see the next 10 years with one of these.
Congrats...I think you'll love it!
Very cool, does the whine ever become annoying to you? It seems super load in the videos
The motor whine is there in ECO mode but as you switch up to TOUR and SPORT modes the whine disappears.
@@ElectricBikeReview Maybe you will answer : I noticed when you reviewed the Specialized Vado 4 You commented how quiet it was : You also appear to have a blast on that Bike : Of course maybe that was due to Charlie. Who appears to be Someone you enjoy the company of: I just thought You showed a lot of Enthusiasm for the Specialized Vado and Como series : I've been waiting for this Trek ,as all My acoustic Bikes have always been Treks. Now I think I may just go with The Vado or Como : Even though These Alliants are nice : They look clumsy compared to The Vado : I know you don't endorse : But you must have preferences ????
can it hold a trunk ?
Active line+625Wh could make this a decent touring bike. But once again, a 500Wh battery... with subpar components. Better to get a CX+625Wh since you´re getting basically the same range, but with much better components. Adapting it for touring is pretty easy.
Like Giant, they should be ashamed to keep releasing 500Wh batteries with 2020 models. Other manufacturers have had 700Wh batteries since 2018!
!650million *What bikes are you referring to with 625 or more Batteries in the 4K Price range?
And none with Bigger batteries : I see Bulls and BH with the larger batteries well over $4,000. I just hate when someone makes an Open ended comment and doesn't support it it facts : What do you mean you weren't talking about Price ?? You are implying This Bike Is crap for what you can get elsewhere in BH and Bulls : Why wouldn't price be a Factor ? Your statement is 1/2 True : As you left out It costs an Average of $1500.00 more to get what you say these Treks don't have???? Over and out.
can i get the speed in Canada?
can you charge the battery when detached from the bike?
Hey tom, yes. You can charge any Bosch battery on or off the bike.
Why am I paying 3500.00 for a bike that only goes 20MPH?? I can do 20MPH on my regular bike. That works out to $175.00 for every mile per hour. Seems lame.
Is this an upright comfort config?
No, its a forward riding position.
Good review, Court. So which would you recommend more? Dost Kope or this Trek Allant+ 7? Seems like the feature set, ergonomics and price favor the Kope, but the dealer network for the Trek is a big plus.
Hi Jeff
Did you say 280 mm rotors?
I heard it too, but it is two 180mm. But of courses what bike wouldn't have 2!
It doesn’t have a rear motor hub.
@@queenzoey69 Of course it does. All wheels have hubs. That's what spins around the stationary axel.
Come on man, every bile you review it is best, how can I make a decision?
Hey Court, how come you never reviewed Allant+ 8s?
Suchintan spelled it wrong...
The lectric xp is the last e bike under 1000 bucks you reviewed, are the cheap ones not worth your time?
Looks very similar to Specialized Turbo Vado, with a Bosch motor instead of a Brose motor.
Yeah, that's a good observation. Which one do you prefer?
@@ElectricBikeReviewBoth bikes rock, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Vado. I love the Brose motor, super smooth, silent, and more torque than a Bosch gen4 motor. Bosch dominates the e-bike motor market, in terms of market share, but do they make the best motors? It will be interesting to see how long Bosch can maintain their dominance as the competition continuous to improve their offerings, Bafang comes to mind.
Why would one buy this when Monday Motorbikes and Super 73 Lithium Cycles exist?
This bike actually weighs 54 pounds not 47.4 pounds.
You spent $3,500 and within 30 seconds you're talking potential upgrades? You lost me, geekazoid.
\\\New Subscriber/// Great video's . I'm very new to the E-bike market, however I am trying to get as much information as possible to crunch the numbers in order to pick my new/first ebike to commute to work "sometimes" and for leisurely rides from time to time. I want POWER because I'm old and very large so I need comfort torque reliability and functionality in the bike. I am aware that this will not be a cheap package, but I would really appreciate your help in giving me options that I may not be aware of from my research.
At present, the bikes on my short list are; Specialised Vado 4.0, and 5.0 2022, Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625 2022, Cannondale Tesoro Neo X 3, Haibike Trekking 10 i625 2021, Raleigh Centros CB 2022 Hub, Ridgeback Advance 3 2022,.
Now I know it's practically impossible for you to choose for me, however can you whittle this list down and/or add a bike which is not on this list which I should be considering...
Thank you very much for your help.

For that price and its features,I am really underwhelmed.
