I read the book the series was based on, written by Peggy Anderson, a pseudonym for a real nurse who worked in Cook County Hospital in Chicago. It was the first book written by a nurse about her real life experiences as a nurse.
It's so sad that both Robert Reed and Peter Coffield who appeared in this series died from a diagnosed HIV related illness. Peter had just starred this same year 1981 in an Academy Award nominated movie "Only When I Laugh". In 1983 Peter had just finished completing a Tv movie which was to serve as a pilot for his new series in 1983 called " O'Malley. " Tragically he died just a few months later at the age of 38. A great talent we lost way too soon.
Lucky for her she did not get typecast as Olivia Walton. Unfortunately, Judy Norton did get typecast as Mary Ellen Walton. Judy was very pretty and a good actress who to this day looks the same. Aging well. Michael Learned looks gorgeous here.
Unresponsive and Asystole to Normal Sinus Rhythm, and Conscious and Alert....all in less than 1 minute. Wow, they must of had better outcomes in the early 1980s vs now......
I loved this show, but it is becoming hazy. I remember an episode where she had a stalker, or some nut case after her. I remember seeing her run down the hall with the hospital all dark and creepy trying to get away from someone. Do you remember that one?
She must have liked going through life with the masculine first name her parents gave her; I'm surprised her manager or agent didn't tell her to bill herself as "Michelle Learned."
I wonder why it matters so much to you what her parents named her. She didn’t mind -her 5 sisters had unusual names, too. It certainly hasn’t hurt her career. She’s been acting steadily for nearly 60 years, she’s won multiple awards, and people still know who she is.
@@skipeastport5529 "I wonder why it matters so much to you what her parents named her." What a stupid, dishonest comment. @Snooze King made a perfectly reasonable observation, and you turn it upside down, as if there were something wrong with him. You vain virtue-signaler. But I'll bet you're worse than vain; virtue-signalers always are.
@@skipeastport5529 Her sisters' names weren't that unusual, and they were all feminine names. Michael is the only one who was saddled with a boy's name.

20 years later, and some employees still can be found making personal phone calls all day
I too remember "Nurse". Watched it every week. Awesome show!
Thanks for posting :)
I feel like no one remembers this but me? I loved this show but havn't heard about it since......way to go roundina!
You're not alone. I remember when this show aired. I recently watched an interview with Michael Learned and she discussed this show.
Should not have ended so soon

at 0:00 that's Wizard of Oz star Maggie Hamilton aka the Wicked Witch of the West
Thanks for posting - this was shown in Ireland and I loved it (would have been around 11-12 years old at the time). Clever theme tune too!

Copy that.
5:46 Believed to be the first use of the phrase "It's not you, it's me."
Oh how I wish I could find full episodes.

This plot would never fly these days... a doctor relentlessly pursuing a nurse would land him in court faster than you can say "diagnosis".
Yup...Stalking!
Peter Coffield and Robert Reed both died so young.
Please post more episodes!!!
Is this series available somewhere /
I had kind of thing for her TV persona.

MrRJMGREEN sounds like a good one but I don’t remember it
Look it's Michael Learned the lady that played Olivia Walton on The Waltons

Lorimar Television actually did something about that on the Waltons by billing her as Miss Michael Learned.
@@newstarcadefan I know; I still wonder why her parents thought it was a good idea to name their daughter Michael.
