As a big Q1 enthusiast, let me share my knowledge. The Q1 class were built with modified Lord Nelson boilers that were either left unused or built under that design. It contributed in the incredible power Q1s that they were known for. The Lord Nelsons were just super King Arthurs both in size and looks. Neville is still distant cousin to Merlin, but much closer than any other Bulleid steam locomotive, even to Rebecca who has Bulleid boiler.

TBH, I actually like Rebecca too; it was a nice breath of fresh air to see a T&F character with a positive optimistic attitude. But I do agree that she was brought onto the TV series too late and too quickly. They should've brought Rebecca on earlier and slowly. This was done with Emily and, though she's a misunderstood character, she's a fan favorite.
Little known fact about Oliver Bulleid: he used to work for Sir Nigel Gresley and had a hand in developing some of Gresely's engines like the A4 (Spencer's basis). So, like the Maunsell family tree, the Gresley family tree is somewhat connected to Bulleid's. So, Rebecca and Merlin could somewhat be related to Spencer, Gordon, and Flying Scotsman.

Oh man, I am glad you did Rebecca's family tree! I knew her direct linage and you hinting Merlin being her distant cousin of sorts, but I had no idea the express coaches and Percy's mail vans are cousins on Merlin too. That has me laughing so much and I think just the fact they are considered realted is has funny story potential. I think Gordon would just be dumbfounded how his prestige express couches are realted to a ecestentic character like Merlin. I never even thought of rollingstock characters being related to engines, till now. This is 10/10 for me.
In defense of Dennis and Norman exisiting in the same universe, well Awdry has made up extra engines that never existed before such as Bear. It's not that bad.
It's really a shame there was nothing done with Norman. Like I read his wiki before and according to it, he wants to be popular with the engines regardless of what fuel they run on and is such a overworks himself because he loves working, despite breaking down a lot. Like it does sound simallar to Derek, but unlike Derek, Norman was on the bad guys side fro a bit, while Derek would never doing such a thing. Perhaps, Norman saw that steam engines seems to get special privlage in his eyes while diesels like him get shafted.Of course, he is wrong, because Topham loves all his engines, but still. It would've been great to see Norman try to impress everyone and agree with everyone's veiw points just so they could like him, only learn that that isn't the way to go to have true friends and be true to your own self. Heck, they could've borught Dennis back and interact with his brother. THey are both opposite charactrs and would've been interesting to explore thier realtionship. Apprently. Norman was thrilled to find hsi twin was on Sodor, but how does Dennis feel about Norman? Paxton, Sidney, Den, and Dart got character to them in the Brenner era while poor Norman got a crumb. It just sucks.
Hmmm as for another family tree, I think Duck would be a fun one. I know he and Oliver are cousins based on having the same designer. However, if you take into consideraton of builders....oh boy there is a whole lot to work with. I'll say it'd make Bear, Dart, and a few others that we know his cousins. Heck, I'd be interested in seeing a Diesel family tree video. It would say it could be too predictiable seeing we know all os his brothers in the show, but you know, since the curve ball with the rollingstock, I'd be interested if there was another curve ball thrown in there when it coems to Diesel's family tree.

I have no evidence for this, but this is the headcanon I had for Dennis and Norman:
Dennis is the real life diesel, he had the exact same stories, the real life one, except when he was about to be put up for scrap the fat controller bought him (Fatt Hatt has a affinity for prototypes.)
Kervens gate fixed a lot of the issues the diesel had, even if Dennis would still occasionally breakdown. However, despite his engine being more-or-less fixed, Dennis was a very lazy diesel, meaning that the fat controller commissioned a diesel of his same class to be built to help even out the workload. Luckily, it turned out. Norman was a far more eager to work engine.

    • @jonathansmithCrabAuthor

I love this idea, and it makes sense, considering that Gordon (whom Awdry confirmed was a fictional prototype to Nigel Gresley’s A1 Pacific class), Percy (a heavily hybridized tank engine with several real-world inspirations), Daisy (a single-unit railcar whose real-world equivalents were multi-unit), and Stanley (another hybridized tank engine based on two different classes) all found a home on the North Western Railway.

I feel that the reason a lot of older fans of the show dislike Rebecca (and likely Nia) Is because their introduction resulted with removing some of the OG characters from the main team in order to balance the gender representation of the crew. There would likely have been better received if they had been added to one of the secondary crews for example the "little Western" or being based in one of the other locations like Vicars town as most of the engines are currently associated with the Tidmouth /Knapford/ Farquarr area at the other end of the island or the Brendham branch and quarry, building a new crew near the mainland would have allowed more interaction with non-sodor engines and given the new additions their own spotlight and opportunities for the writers to make stories revolving around some of the less seen engines like they did for the Mid-Sodor and Skarloey engines in the model series.

I don't mind the fact that two BR 11001s somehow canonically exist in the Thomas universe. I'm sure there's people out there who have made some kind of theory to why two of them exist, but since by like Series 8, or heck, even by Series 6 or 7, the universe seems to be its own thing with things that occur in real life being nonexistent for the most part, it doesn't matter all too much to me. I mean, in the same universe, characters like Carly, Cassia and the Chinese diesel exist despite being 21st builds and Ian McCue confirming that the show takes place in the late 50s-early 60s. Besides as controversial as this opinion may be but I don't thing characters real life/Railway Series build dates apply for the characters in the TVS. That last sentence didn't have anything to do with the video, I know but I thought it would add to my thoughts on Dennis and Norman coexisting.

Dennis was designed by Oliver Bullied of the Southern Railway, and the LB&SCR was one of the companies that became the Southern Railway.
Thomas is one of Dennis' distant uncles.

@@Sudriantank743it’s an engine that runs on peat instead of coal, but I’m sure that’s not what you meant. Turf Burner (also known as CIÉ CC1) was an interesting locomotive. Think of him as a green Leader with weirdly slanted cab edges or something. You’ll know what I mean when you see a picture of it.

6:07 true words have never been spoken because if we had a battle britain class in the model series then it would be introduced in season 3 where we'd get a battle Britain class named Rebecca who would make for a great season 3 character who would make a return in season 21.

The whole Norman and Dennis co-existing never really bothered me. There’s precedent for that in the series prior. Donald, Douglas, and most of the numbered diesels in the series shouldn’t exist; their numbers come after the irl last numbers of their classes. Skarloey and Rheneas are both fictional duplicates of their one-off bases as well. What does boggle me a bit more is the idea that they’re supposed to be twins. Their faces look so different, and Norman’s clearly has an older look to it compared to Dennis. It becomes especially weird if Dennis is indeed to original 11001 and Norman is the fictional duplicate (“11002,” you might say), cuz that’d mean Dennis is older. I have a whole convoluted headcanon for how that works out, but left as is, it’s weird

I really enjoyed watching this video, Honestly Rebecca is kind of mid to me. She was sort of just there to sweep Emily “under the rug” if you know what I mean. Along with Nia, Both Of them have done nothing but sort of just dare to entertain the kids and makes us feel kind of bored and somewhat annoyed of their episodes spotlight. One day I WILL Make an AU For Rebecca along with Kana and Bruno. Both of these characters must have potential. And if not it's like we're just throwing them into the bin without giving them a chance. I can’t promise if I make an AU video Mostly because I'm busy in life right now BUTT With a little hope, Maybe I'll have a chance. If I get one of course.
