As they say, relationships are temporary, but nuclear fusion is forever.
why do you say nuclear fusion?

The only Thomas ship I support is Henry x his forest.

So Henry is a treefucker?

Ayo wat?!
@anternet104 be careful with what forces you summon with that comment, dude.
I don't care what anyone says, Toby and Henrietta are an old married couple
Only one i think is cute and works.
I agree Toby and Henrietta being a typical old married couple without being literally in love is a perfect allegory
everyone else in the fandom: Is skeptical wether or not to have vehicles have relationships
Victor Tanzig: Literally has t2 married locomotive couples in his series
I was actually shocked when Henry mentioned to the others that he was married to Emily in Victor Tanzig's video
Thomas isn’t dead he fooled us all
Didn't thomas and lady get divorced in his universe?
@@PilloTheStar
Not quite, they more or less broke up after a rough patch, and then rekindled their friendship, but just as that; friends.

Funny enough, the romantic implications are not the reason I dislike Rosie is Red. Thomas is incredibly out of character here. He knows Diesel, Bill and Ben are meant to be jokesters by this point, so why would he care about what they think?? Also, there is a scene in the episode where he endangers workmen and that made me so mad because it reminds me of the one scene in Wonky Whistle.
Davey Moore is a very talented writer and most of his episodes are some of the best episodes in all of CGI Thomas. But although I do understand what he was going for, I don't think this needs to be a lesson taught in a show about talking trains. Would have worked much better with humans as the main focus instead
This really isn’t all that out of character for CG Thomas given he’s a rather impulsive character in this era of the show.
I can maybe understand the criticism with Bill and Ben even if it’s not all that surprising someone who get all in a twist with their antics given it’s nothin new with them, but with Diesel, Thomas has taken what he’s said to heart before and this is no different.
Yes, a few of those examples are HIT Era episodes, but I'm still counting them.
Also, I should emphasize: context is important for the reasons stated in the video, it’s a natural case to feel flustered.
@@stirlingno.1296 Diesel has gotten to Thomas before. But other times he can completely see through his tricks or manipulation. Here, it's just him teasing about Rosie being his ""favorite"". It's B&B that really get under his non-existent skin and again, I don't understand. TOTB's main aspects involved B&B pranking Thomas and Thomas being fully aware they are just being silly for the sake of being silly. Embarassment is a real thing, I get it, we all go through it at some point. But if they wanted this to be more believable than it actaully was. have the teasing come from someone who Thomas looks up to. Like.. I dunno, Toby? Edward? Have one of the two playfully nudge the idea and Thomas storms off taking it the wrong way. Than the other (like Toby does here) console them and tells Thomas to talk it out with Rosie AND the engine who nudged the idea in the first place. That way Thomas can show a new side to him without contradicting what he knows about these characters before.
Also what about this not really being a story that can work in TTTE in the first place? Again, good lesson, but why use TRAINS to tell this kind of story?
@@fairlyoddenginecreations
I get what you’re saying and that sounds like a nice concept, I just don’t really have as much of an issue with the canon execution for the reasons I stated above.
These trains just so happen to have human emotions, why restrict the concept of love like it’s some unholy sin for these characters to feel? Plus, love is not exclusive to physical intimacy or "ewww sexualization", it can be expressed in a multitude of ways.
@@stirlingno.1296 Yeah, like the reasons said in the above video. The engines CAN express love through their dialogue, not their.. lip contact. I wouldn't be even saying that if it weren't for the stupid, cringe-inducing fantasy sequence. How does B&B even know about kissing? I thought trains weren't fully aware of what the humans (outside of working on the railway) do for a living. Percy in HEA is different because he actually got to EXPERIENCE it and didn't really feel any romance afterwards. B&B tho? Straight up calling Rosie Thomas' "special friend" made me gag when I first heard it
@@fairlyoddenginecreations
My man, it’s not even that cringey, I saw the same sequence myself, and I'm like "…okay, whatever." I just feel like you’re looking at this through kind of a dense lens. Like, you said, and I said, love can be expressed through dialogue, it’s one of the most common ways of expressing love.
Plus, the way I see it, if engines were able to kiss, or "kiss" in a metaphorical sense, that would be expressed through gently tapping each other’s buffers, there’s no lip contact, it’s just them finding a way around that hurdle if they were to ever be intimate beyond dialogue.
I never minded ships! I genuinely love the married idea of Henrietta and Toby!
Personally I don't mind it with the whole relationships. Especially with Toby and Henrietta and Luke and Millie.
Hearing Wilbert talk about the coaches being dutiful wives feels like looking at a trilobite fossil. It's so old-fashioned that it's older than dinosaurs.
Lady Hatt is the real reason why Elisabeth was locked in a shed for all those years.
I answer this question with a theory of my own "Mimic Theory"; the engines have faces because their passengers and crew have faces, they speak because we speak, they feel love and other emotions because they learned them from humans.
In conclusion, watch Wall-E.
WALL•E my favorite Movie!
That is a good theory actually. EVE and WALL-E have such a sweet romance and it is still not s*xual in anyway.
Thomas characters might feel about each other like that.
@@thetechnocrat4979thing is the whole beauty is that they’re robots and are more human than the actual humans in the movie, despite them still being programming and advanced AI, where’s Thomas characters are very clearly organic to a small extent and their bodies are what’s still mechanical/artificial.
That's a great video about love and relationships in Thomas. I believe that romance between trains could work if given the chance to try and in a careful way, It doesn't have to involve kissing or anything, just feelings would do really well.
Yeah like they kiss by bumping buffers or like always hang out
A random list of Thomas characters/theories I wouldn’t mind a videos on:
- How much of Sodor is borrowed from the Furness Railway (Edward, Albert, Vickerstown, connections to Barrow, etc.)
- a view on all the coaches on the NWR
- Stafford
- The Holden family tree (Toby, Molly and Hurricane are technically cousins)
Also, Duck might be related to Bill and Ben
@@brendanhanley2741WHAT? I knew Duck and Oliver are related, but Bill and Ben?
@Duck-wl4kv around 50 57XX panniers were built by W.G Bagnall possible making Duck a half cousin to Bill and Ben
@@brendanhanley2741 That’s correct but they were built by Charles Collett. This universe is confusing
As a nonshipper of Thomas and friends, I will have to admit that I was curious AND glad that you went over it in a more factual way. I was in SHOCK when I watched "Rosie is red". I did NOT think that Thomas and friends would make a lovey dovey episode, but yes I did notice the more descrete flirty moments because it wasn't straight out.
before rosie is red existed i supported thomas x and rosie after seeing rosie is red i still support thomas x rosie
5:40
‘thomas, can you take these new coaches up to harwick?’
‘Sorry sir, but i can’t upset the polycule!’
Very interesting explanation. I do see Toby and Henrietta as a married couple. And I also like Luke and Millie.
I really don't know why love is such a touchy subject in this fandom... especially when love is portayed onto the trains.
IKR!
The same reason no-one does fan art of the engines as humans, because this fandom used to have a p*dophile infestation.
Either that or its because of those people who think a romantic relationship simply can't exist without s*x (vehicles don't have genit*ls)
Saammmee
The part about the relationship between engines and coaches….🤯👌🏾✅
Doesn’t mean the coaches are just “accessories” they too have their uses, yes they have to be pulled along by an engine but the passenger train wouldn’t exist without them. So I don’t believe it’s too sexist to have the males the engines and the coaches females. The roles of both genders are different but are necessary. They aren’t expected to be the same now are they.
@@keanes8608 EXACTLY!!! But I bet it’d be hard to get everyone else to understand that 🙄. But yeah they are very special and important, and the fact that the engines love them so much just proves their worth and value🥰 And when you think about it, any dmu or emu (diesel/electric multiple unit) are basically self propelled coaches, which is why daisy, Pip and Emma are female. Thats why in my head cannon, any engine like that is female.
I think you forgot to mention that in The Great Race, Annie and Clarabel fire back at Thomas and say "We're not your coaches Thomas! We're our own coaches"
toad kinda refers to everyone like alfred would to batman (sir/master wayne) as he says mr/ms (insert character name here) so while hes not really a butler, his mannerism is similar to such

Also Thomas in his early days: You are so fat you need exercise >:(
But yeah, he can't escape the teasing lol
For me the vehicles can have relationships just not in a s**ual way cue in Stories of Sodor logic.
Yes indeed. I don't understand why it is so hard for so many to grasp. Romance doesn't automatically equate s*x. In fact, romance was used heavily as a word for passionate love even when s*x wasn't involved in the past. Ever know the phrase ' romancing the rails ' people? Us railfans romanticise the railways, aviation fans romanticise aircrafts and car owners romanticise their cars. That doesn't mean that we want to f*ck them or ' procreate ' with them.
preach
They’re literally all asexual because they’re real trains ergo no balls or puss
8:05 fun fact, I have friends named Luke and Millie who are dating. And there’s also characters in Coronation Street named Ryan and Daisy who are having an affair.

Smart to stream this on valentines day
You know what, i'm just gonna say it.... i will always be a *Thomily* shipper. 💙💚 The Hit & Nitrogen Eras basically set up that Ying Yang dynamic between them, they had a kind of 'close childhood friends' chemistry at the start and near the end during the Brenner Era it grew to a point where it became like a 'work-wife/work-husband' relationship. Nothing was ever necessarily romantic, but whenever the other was feeling down or struggling with a job you can be sure that despite some bossing or teasing they always looked out for and supported each other, just like good couples should. And to be honest, if your gonna write relationships for engines or any non-human character in this show, that's how you do it in my opinion.
I will say though, and i recommend reading them for anyone interested, the on-going fan-fiction series written by *AaronControll97* is truly something special.
I looked it up and my eyes landed on she likes it when he..
😅
Of course I’ll read the whole thing for context, just in case I read it wrong.
I was ready for apocalypse when you were. :)
And that promo pic of Thomas and Rosie made for that same episode is something I love to call so silly, I kinda like it. 😂
2:33 BUS WANKERS 😂
I think the closest thing the series would have done to imply relationships without being cringe is just have two characters who are implied to “like” each other
But it’s shown through them just enjoying working together and hanging out more than others (maybe slight blushing) and that’s literally it. Gets the point across and still says accurate to the rules of the in show universe
Personally, since henry and emily when he was having boilerache i shiped them the first ship has been Thomas and lady. Then Henrietta and toby i say thier elder couple and finally rebecca and Gordon
To be honest, I seem to Thomas X Rosie shipper myself, even years before Rosie is red at 9:23-11:27.
Rosie is red, Thomas is blue, and my darling lady hat, I love you.
actually while I'm writing my own Thomas theories I use the term of a boyfriend or girlfriend as a partner. I defined this as being something that can be romantic or just platonic. I just write them in just having relationships but not really having the urge to do anything physically together. their love and that's it. no more needs to be said.
still great video guys
Okay, but what about the shunting at night?
Uhh... actually, we'll get to that later.
The way I see it…
Yes they can have feelings…
The engines have feelings, they can feel things emotionally (as seen…Literally anything to do with Thomas, including the RWS *cough* scrap *cough*)
I do believe there is a limit…Like locomotives can’t do anything like…Y’know…
But they don’t have to! Just like real life! (I feel so weird saying something on the matter XD)
The relationship is almost like a sibling one…They just want to be together and have each other’s backs…Reminder, they are machines…The only contact they can make is doubleheading a train or whatever
It’s also somewhat of a play on the fact, many (mostly just European steam engines) look visually appealing and elegant, thus is why people may like certain designs in particular
This is the best thing that RUclips has recommended me
To be honest I think see Thomas and friends as a family united way, then romance, because I have strange feeling that most of us who grew out of Thomas and Friends when separated ways to other Fandoms from different TV Shows and Movies, and in those fandoms are Fanfic Stories, like Kylo RenxReader, Captain America x Reader, the list goes on and on, so when we come back to Thomas and Friends for good old childhood memory, but due to us being in different fandoms we kinda got some of the Fanfic to the T.F.F. as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Note: The reason I see Thomas and Friends as family because they bicker, teasing each other, angry at each other, but when one of them is down, you'll see the squad coming after you or someone who hurt one of them like a normal family can do, so that why I don't get the shipping part. 😅😅
Yeah it’s more of a found family, like at most engines have siblings or cousins because of who they were designed and built with but that’s the most of it
@Nic_2751 that the one, the found family, I knew there was trope but I forgot what was called.
I used to pretend Thomas The Tank Engine was my little brother.
Work colleagues, and family yeah. Even the best friend crap was a stretch
@@keanes8608 actually yes work colleagues is more accurate, but the found family is definitely there and just as valid of an interpretation
Cars and Wall-E had love and it worked nicely, so I don't really see how this couldn't work.
i got a special friend
Happy Valentines day!
I'm not really one for shipping Thomas characters unless if it's characters from other shows that makes me see their pairing as similar to them by their personalities and colors.
"Rosie is red" wasn't the first time Thomas stood up for Rosie.
He did in "Hector the horrid".
Though in this situation it was because of him having problems explaining to Rosie his opinions on her without some engines seeing them more than just friends.
Thomas has had his fair share of his good and bad starts when meeting new girl characters whether it's taking Annie and Clarabel from him or just making him feel annoyed at first.
One example I think would've worked for relationships would've been the fantasy sequence from "Emily's best friend".
The more I watched it, the more I thought, "Edward may old, but I think he can be the perfect boi who can impress a woman".
I feel like there's not really ever an episode or fan made story where Edward was paired with a girl character as its mostly the engines on his branchline or anybody else.
I think in the RWS version of "Peter Sam and the refreshment lady" Agnes, Ruth, Lucy, Jemima and Beatrice said that Peter Sam treated them like a real gentleman.
This is going to be good
Maybe they could kiss if they were one of those cursed spider Thomas things where the face can crawl out of the boiler. Engines kissing is very weird though.
Cool never thought about this…
It would be cool if you plan a video to prepare for April 20th of this year to discuss the topic of drugs in Thomas, such as the jokes about Special Coal from Season 1 and Gold Dust from Thomas and the Magic Railroad, as well a references to Drugs in various fanmade series'
This just reminded me of a lot of questions I've had about the engines for a long time;
1. Do they know where babies come from?
2. Do they *want* to know?
3. The Nostalgia Critic assumed that sentient vehicles are born like humans, does it work the other way as in do engines think hospitals are factories/workshops where humans are built?
4. How aware are they of the differences between machines and living creatures?
Sorry to go off on a tangent.
Nostalgia Critic is an idiot

Believe it or not, the only characters I ship together are Thomas and Ashima, & James and Emily.
Also, I was wondering if you would like to take part in reviewing The Super Mario Bros. Movie (if you've watched it that is).
Personally I don’t think it matters what you use but how you use it. Relationships can work. Like how Victor Tanzig does them.
The point mentioned of "There's no reason for them to be romantic cos they can't procreate" reminds me that the Transformers franchise also has this issue.
For them romance is purely platonic and recreational rather than procreative.
I'll always be a Thomosie shipper .I'm even writing a fanfic where Aeg Thomas is their son and Kana is his Girlfriend
8:22 Ryan RUN! 😂
Im not a fan if shipping either, but something about thomas and rosie being together seems so right to me....
I hc them being the only engines on sodor to feel "love" to eachother. And my hc on how trains have "dates" is that they wanna spend time bonding with eachother, like working together, and just being around eachother
Thomas and rosie just probably has a special connection that makes them like eachother so much, but ut doesnt get any farther than that. And the engines noticed it and started to tease them
I always think Lady and Thomas good relationship
In all due honesty, it makes no sense why fans complain about romance between locomotives being unrealistic: they can talk, but nobody complains about them doing that being unrealistic. It’s completely hypocritical
1:35 rev w awdry like to imagine that real trains can talk wasn't he
Well his books were based on real events he’s probably seen and personifying the vehicles..😅
I head canon that engines can’t have a relationship, but they can have something that’s like a relationship. Also I see that you mentioned something about your Gordon’s family tree video. I remember that you said Gordon had, if you don’t count Flying Scotsman, Gordon had 79 other brothers. Well because of Ethan E-2’s head canon of 3 Gresley A-1’s that survived, I head canon is that more than 81 Gresley A-1’s were built and more than 2 or 3 survived.
Yep definitely happen in school
Rosie is red
Thomas is blue
Happy Valentine's day
for everyone watching this video!
I can see how they could have relationships but the physical stuff no but toby and henreietta are a great case of an old husband and wife
I remember seeing this video of a random kid saying Thomas and Lady should be a couple and they should also get married, one of the cringiest ahh things ever
Agreed but so is saying “ahh” after an adjective.
Was it that video called Thomas in love
I agree with this video
I subscribe to the idea of romance between these sentient engines and coaches as being significantly different to how us humans feel it. I like how Victor Tanzig handles that in his main ' Stories of Sodor ' series.
I don't think that there is any physical aspect to their feelings, it is purely emotional. Hard for human beings to understand and comprehend.
Romance & Thomas are not things I hear about everyday.
And could not substitute kissing with something train related in “Rosie is Red”? I’ve heard Transformers do something like that with vehicle or mechanical related wordplay. Like they substitute swear words with words like “slag” (although that’s an actual dirty word in the UK). Or say “I just put on my makeup” as “I just got my face chromed”. I’ve heard a Transformers comic that substitute romantic phrases with stuff like “I’ll rotate those tires of yours”. Maybe they could say stuff like “snuggling their buffers together” or something.
11:52 how on earth does there exist an XXL statue of Rebecca's woodenrailway model
When I was like 4 years old, i thought Thomas liked Emily
Thomas's family tree (and can you talk about Timothy)
As an asexual woman, I’m glad they avoid romantic relationships. I like the emotional personification of actual engines. They r complex and fascinating. We have enough interpersonal human relationships. This is an interesting dynamic in their relationships and emotions.
I know that this is hardly the right place to discuss this, but I have a bit of a problem with how Rosie was written as a character. Given her class’s background (US Army s100 ww2 era switcher engine), I would’ve thought that it would’ve made more sense for her to be a hardened engine who’s seen the horrors of World War 2 and still has the personality of a soldier from the war, and even possibly tried to write it in as her using that as a method of coping with her war-sustained trauma They really missed many opportunities to write her as the strong female character with some repressed ptsd instead of just a silly “young” engine. They could’ve even made an episode or two about her dealing with ptsd over the things she saw during her years of working at Southampton docks.
Ive noticed, that in kid shows like this use special friends to censor boyfriend or girlfriend because apparently thats to inappropriate but kissing is ok ig
I headcanon almost every engine as AroAce and that being the majority for all engine kind. The one of the only ships I like is Toby and Henrietta.
Thomas has two wives. Wilbert Awdry was a poly ally confirmed.
If a train can get game then you can too
3:49 they are trains with human faces
6:37
Yeah! It’s very probably, Thomas’s actitudes it’s bit similar like a boy 9-13 years, one bit anarchistic, LIKE a boy. And obviously, Annie’s and clarabell’s rolls it’s like a aunties.
What would be very Interesting is the Theory two Engines COULD Kiss. Possibly. If both engines were being worked on and had Their Running Boards Removed they could Kiss. IN THEORY
And then there's Thomas' Heartbreak
More like Thomas's Hatebreak
Happy Valentine's Day, Thomas Theorist!
Mechanical shed he's not blushing on the cover of the great race
Personally I think in terms of relationships in Thomas is mostly whatever. In the Thomas universe they have us an emotions so it would make sense to see how it would work in long-term relationships with each other
6:55 - *Happy ever after
In Victor tanzing case they can get married.
Daisy is the River Song to Ryan
The funny thing about Thomas disliking Rosie (besides it being only one of MANY times the "Thomas hates the new tank engine" trope appears) is that Rosie's basis (american dock tank) is the engine that actually replaced Thomas's basis (the scrapped E2's). So when viewed through the lens of Thomas potentially resenting rosie for her class basically being responsible for his own class being scrapped, their relationship gets a lot more real.
Not to be the "erm ackkually" guy but the dock tanks didn't replace the E2s. That is just a rumor. The crews simply preferred to use the dock tanks. It was actually Salty's class(BR 07s) who replaced both the E2s & dock tanks. Your point could still work though as Thomas could have fallen for this rumor.
I asked this before in the chat and I’ll ask It again. What is you guys’ favourite couple in The Stories of Sodor?
I disagree
I think engines should have relationships cuz it's just really cute and endearing.
Also Britt Allcroft wanted Thomas and lady to be a thing so...
If the relationship is handled well then yeah it's alright I still find it kinda weird but as y'all said times change and we'll adapt to it if Thomas still gets a comeback sometime that could be good stories, again if handled well.
We all know that Stanley is Thomas' special friend.
Let’s be honest, people. Despite all of his controversies, the way Victor Tanzig handles romantic relationships between sentient vehicles in his series is probably the best way to go about it. I’m not saying that romantic relationships are an absolute necessity in Thomas and Friends, but if you’re going to do it, do it like he does it.
idk but when i watched rosie is red, i laughed beacsue it remineded me chidlhood, when you know girls are blegh!
a bit of a tangent here cuz i havent grasped the idea of smaller sentences yet BUT
i think the engines can, in theory, form close bonds past platonic or familial. maybe its just how i see the world[as i am aroace n therefore already view relationships differently] but i never saw the idea of engines being unable to do [romantic thing here] as a reason for them to not be able to form romantic bonds. Ofc i think the show would have had to handle it much better for it to not only be more accepted in the broader fandom outside of like tumblr, but also actually work.
cuz clearly its possible, awdrew AND the show acknowledge it, but it needs to make actual sense in a way ig
like personally, i am a shipper in the fandom, i like weird and silly dynamics that rlly would not happen purely cuz its funny, but if the show were to do it again [pretend it got a new season or smtn] i think it would have to be handled carefully, prolly w toby and henrietta as they are the most obvious example of an implied romantic couple. them also being older/mature would make it more fitting, as theyre a bit smarter than like 70% of the cast
did any of that make sense?? i dunno i just like rambling lol
