This takes me back to when I was very young. Looking back , NYPD was a well made police drama and Robert Hooks Jack Warden were the best part of it. I would like to see more episodes, in particular the one that guest starred James Earl Jones.
reelblack is really taking me back. That epic opening and Midtown Manhattan skyline that I could see from my bedroom window as a kid in North Jersey...
OMG, I'm watching & istening to the scene at 16:57 and realized that this is the same actress who played the Vice Principal in "Lean On Me". She had the same projection when confronting Joe Clark (Morgan Freeman) in those intense scenes. Wow! I'm lovin' this show. Robert Hooks' acting is always fire!
Among a myriad of other issues this makes me ponder, from NAT KING COLE and ETHEL WATERS all the way to brilliant actors today, who's shows were cancelled because companies would not buy commercial time, or never got the small or big screen because no one would fund their projects. I'm glad there are Black award shows, because so many BRILLIANT actors and support casts and staffs were never honored. REELBLACK, you honor them by sharing their wonderful work, and introducing this amazing archives to a new generation. I know there are documentaries on blacklisted black artists, but is there one on cancelled black shows from NAT KING COLE to present? Amazing how some of the STUPIDEST ASININE CRAP out of Hollywood can run for years making millions on mediocrity and mindlessness. I miss JET MAGAZINE under direction of JOHN H. JOHNSON! "In Memoriam" always showed who'd passed, who's work we knew, even if we didn't know their names and faces. JOHN knew they deserved to be honored. REELBLACK, you are doing the same. I'm thinking about the retired musicians in New Orleans who lost everything to Katrina. I'm thinking about all the Black musicians and actors who became STARS, but struggled all their lives, some dying in poverty. Once an artist touches our hearts, they are never forgotten! Our history makes me so damn proud. That's why some people are scared of it. THANK YOU REELBLACK!!!!!
Thanks for posting this episode. I watched NYPD with my father back in the day. It is not on DVD or any of the streaming sites so this episode will make do. Reelblack is the best RUclips channel!
I never knew abt this series, but I recognize the opening credits referenced in the Zucker Bros. early 80s cult series Police Squad (basis of the Naked Gun franchise). It's pretty damn good. I'm impressed. Great ensemble cast, electrifying. Robert Hooks is a great thespian. And in the IMDB I learn that Al Pacino made his tv debut on this show. Thanks for the uploading!
Question (not related to this) - wonder if you know how to find a Muhammed Ali interview that appears to be scrubbed from the internet? He was being interviewed by some reporter and spoke on "the white man is the devil". It was such an Ali classic, maked no sense it can't be found. Help if you can... this deserves to be accessible.
Directing's off in first couple scenes...too much yelling/stiff over-acting. Probably a white director. Thankfully, it improves, there's some great acting talent throughout this episode. Thanks for the upload!!
Without this show there is no NYPD Blue or Hill Street Blues Al Pacino made his television debut on this show. I think it was only on in 1967 and 1968.
Robert Hooks one of my favorite underrated actors. The Karate Kick he took at 14:12 though!
Robert Hooks was a great actor!! And later his son inherited his talent and became an outstanding actor!!
Kevin Hooks, Directed Passenger 57

Sad how relevant all the issues presented in this show are today.

Good day.....Hats off to the casting director, all the actors seem perfectly cast for their roles.
This show and Burt Reynolds Hawk series were the epitome of NYC detective series of the late 1960s .

Robert Hooks and Frank Converse , past co stars of the movie Hurry Sundown , along with other famous folks in the cast .
That karate kick was almost as hard as anything even Bruce Lee did, damn!
11:37 = The importance of a father is felt in this scene. She listened to her daddy.
My uncle Richard Ward,is standing by the black board,I was eight years old when this movie came out,Thanks Slybear, for finding this movie.
I recall seeing this episode in 1968.
Damn even in the 60s snitching was not allowed

The Karate Kick he took at 14:12
