  • Midnight Shadow is a 1939 film with an all African-American cast. It was directed and produced by George Randol, who was also African American.
    The mind-reading Prince Alihabad courts a girl from Oklahoma played by Frances E. Redd. Her parents want to make her happy, but they do not like that Alihabad worships Allah. A killer is on the loose and locals fear that it might be Alihabad. - Wikipedia

    This movie is 82 years old. My Mom was 7 years old when this movie was made

    I love a classic film with an all black cast,& doesn't have any racial stereotypes,& not a single blackface in one!!!!!

    Strange, but many interesting details. The Ali Haban character referring to Allah, for instance; the Wilsons’ formal, but touching way of speaking to each other; the notion of setting aside oil land in favor of the future, rather than gutting it now & emptying the piggy bank to go shopping & a character named “Langley” who wants to work in fingerprint ID-ing for Mr. Hoover. Thank you, again ReelBlack, for a forgotten retrospective of 1939, during The Depression, too! When you think about what could’ve been accomplished had the progress been uninterrupted, if the filmmakers had ever had real support & real access, so much achievement & dignity could’ve been generated.

    Wow! I never knew that black film existed in those days the 1939 only movie I know "Stormy Weather" with Lena Horne that was in the forties.
