he even got lars’ pronunciation of “fock” correct
that lars impression was brilliant
Yeah well lars have taken the piss out out of Dave enough over the years so a bit of pay back
Best part of the video
It was fockin brilliant mahn😂
Only, Lars isn't German. That was more of a german accent.
Check this one ^^

Dave: *Plays Sweet Home Alabama*
Lars: HOLY SHAIT WE GONNA USE DAT
Eddie being so tame hearing one of his hero’s bash another hero. Lol
Judging by all of the stories about Cliff, it sounds like he was a really cool person to hang out with.
Metallica: hey can I copy your homework?
Skynyrd: sure just change it a little bit and don’t make it obvious
It definitely wasnt obvious
@@yaboisirdankis373 They hid it sooo good like it should be obvious but don't ask me :D
Metallica: nah, we'll increase the distortion.
"Can I say the F work on this show?"
You already did Dave
😂
"He focking slowed the band down!!"
--Lars
Underrated comment
No, Lars slowed the band down.
Drops the F bomb then asks if he can say the F word..😂
Noticed that too 😂 at least he was respectful haha

I was a big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan before I ever started listening to Metallica. Pretty sure that's why the first four Metallica records are my favorite.
I wish Ronnie was alive when this was written though. I just know he wouldnt have been mad I mean hell he used material from other people too but he would have made some kind of response to this in typical cheeky Ronnie fashion. Probably add a little Metallica riff to a song he was writing
Skynyrd wiped the floor with Metallica
I’m sorry but lynyrd synyrd didn’t influence Metallica’s first album in the slightest. You’re missing the ENTIRE FUCKING POINT of this video. The bands and genres are so different from each other, yet Lars in his love of skynyrd wanted their own riff In the song after wanted to “slow it down”. Again, watch the damn video. Dave explains how Lars wanted to “slow down” mustaines riffs which prompted Dave to joking play skynyrds riff. Half the first album is mustaines work at the very least. If you think one ounce of it is “inspired” by lynyrd skynyrd then you’re more stupid then LARS HIMSELF
Edit: you literally made lars’ same stupid mistake all over again. The joke is that it’s a ripped off riff. You completely missed the point of this video and you know nothing of Metallica or Megadeth if you think kill em’ all was “inspired” by skynyrd 😂seriously dude, take 3 seconds and look up the term “thrash metal”. How the fuck do you hear skynyrd influence in Metallica’s first album? What a stupid take. 100% confirmation that you can have a wrong opinion 😂😂
As a kid, my friend Chad and I use to joke about the "Sweet Home Alabama" break down part of "The Four Horsemen"... now I find out we were just incredibly intuitive. This is awesome vindication.
People have been telling me that was "sweet home Alabama" for years and I had to tell them it was wrong.... turns out they were right.
I never recognized this until now, and I listend Sweet Home Alabama a lot
@@LINKINPARKSPAMPT5 I didn't know it until reading about this online years ago. Never would have realized the Skynyrd influence there on my own, even though it's plain as day to hear once you know about it.
This is the 2nd time i watched Dave tells this story. Can't remember the other but pretty sure it's recently
Syahmie The Rattlehead cant remember where I read or heard it, but before this the story was different in that someone in the band had specifically said the section of the song needed some Lynard skynard.
Yeah, I heard it before not so long along. It blew my mind. It's always great to learn something new about something you listen for 30 years.
@@atb1175I've heard Dave say the story the same way in different videos.
I already knew this, but nice to see Dave taking the piss out of everybody and everything.
Dave is often hilarious when he tells stories.
You can’t do a Lars impression without saying fuck.
*Fock (y).
What's missing is the excessive use of "ummmm"
@@AndE667 And a toothpick
HE FOCKIN LEFT THE BAND!!!!
I always called that part sweet home Metallica lol
0:39 this is the most underrated part of the interview. God Lars was such a Nikki Sixx. The funniest part is Metallica never play that part of the song live, presumably because they don't want to get sued by Skynyrd. The problem is the solo in that breakdown is GOD tier. So it's this blueballs situation.
Not because they are scared of getting sued. If that was the case they would remove from the record. Just because they want to keep the song intensity live
@@maidenslayer that is so stupid. Don't add these slow parts in if you aren't going to use them.
I always thought that sounded like it. Lol
Dave beefing Lars is the greatest thing ever
I just love this
fock man thats fockin brilliant man
I swear when i need a laugh i pull up a video of mustaine dogging lars out...gold!!
of couse they modified it a little in the album version. But now, that is stuck in my mind forever.
Nobody:
Literally nobody:
Dave: *Asks if he can drop an F bomb after he’s already dropped one*
I love both band
I love Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!
the other difference in the Mechanix and 4 Horsemen is the "TIME, has taken it's toll on you..." part. The music to that part is also not in the mechanix....
Which is one of the best parts of the song.
Also, the lyrics and vocals are much better in The Four Horsemen.
@@jonathanm9069 agreed
James and Kirk have said in multiple interviews that they were influenced by Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Obviously the Free Bird solo by Collins is what James has referenced a lot, if you go back and listen to it, there are a few Skynyrd songs that absolutely have a primitive “metal” vibe to them. Even Simple Man, which is more of a country song, has the really powerful distorted guitar riff in the chorus that resembles some Metal Anthems that came later. Those Marshalls Skynyrd was using on the first two albums get surprisingly heavy in some songs. Obviously the uptempo free bird finish has the energy that inspired a lot of metal bands. Epic energy in that song
And this here is probably why Metallica has never complained about John Romero taking a riff in no remorse for the DooM E1M1 theme.
I know Ronnie was long dead but im just debating to myself whether he would be impressed or pissed off by this move if he was still alive
Dave will mock and fuck with Lars 'till the end of time.
I " ve heard him sayin' the main riff is Detroit rock city 's riff but faster...and it fits
Man, it's so fucking obvious when Dave explains it. Did Lars never hear Sweet Home Al. before that?
Lynard skynard hm well heroes got heroes
got herpes
Damn I wish I had smoke pot with Cliff :(
damn some info that has skipped my attention
I knew it
“Can I say the F word” 😂😂😂
Oh my god
I'm honestly surprised he couldn't tell the riff..
Interviewer be like "Wow :D cool story man kthxbye"
It's almost as if I was looking at Lars himself. That totally sounds like something he'd say hahaha
Live, Metallica doesn't play that section of The Four Horsemen, I bet this is the reason why LOL
That isn't the reason, and they have played it live a few times.
The literally played sweet home alabama live
I assumed it was just to cut down on time. They also regularly play shortened versions of "Am I Evil?" when live.
Fade to black is Simple Man.
I always thought Cliff looked like he belonged in Lynyrd Skynyrd.
That part of Four Horseman is so awesome. Obviously Dave rolls his eyes and acts like its the least cool thing in the world because its a Metallica song… also it’s not that hard to pick out, it sounds quite a bit like Sweet Home Alabama riff
ahhh I thought this riff sounds crazy like sweet home alabama, funny that it actually was inspired by this track... and some awful pot :D
I love Metal but with take Skynyrd all day long!
Megadeath fans: Metallica ripped off Dave
Skynard fans: get in line brah.
Things is that Lars is a visonary not a great musician
While Lars is a passable enough drummer now after a couple few decades of practice, (he's ok but there are many better drummers in rock and metal)... Lars was absolutely wretched back in the day as he was entirely self taught. If I remember correctly Cliff Burton had to teach Lars time keeping as he had a bad habit of speeding up while playing. Kids in middle school band have a hard time not speeding up while playing so that should tell you where Lars was musically back in the day. No wonder he wanted Dave to slow down...
How quickly we forget the goosebumps felt the first time Lars' drums on Harvester of Sorrow, or the intro to Disposable Heroes or anything off of Lightning... Lars' drumming ruled the 80s
DarkRenaissance2012 Lars' drumming on Justice was great. Hell, everyone on Justice was amazing. Jason must've been so good that they turned his bass down so people didn't die of excitement when listening to AJFA
@@anthonyzbikowski529 I can definitely see your point about Lars speeding up while playing. It makes sense for him to want to slow it down when you consider Lar's likely weaknesses back then. A song with a break in the middle would be a nice break for Lars to keep things together by the time they get back to the main riffs.
I have been there myself on rhythm guitar accidentally speeding songs up, and have seen novice drummers do the same. Can be easy to do when you are inexperienced. When I started jamming with other people I learned how bad my timing was. Never even would have thought my timing was bad until jamming in bands exposed it. It was kind of embarrassing because everyone else I played with had pretty much the same level of experience/talent as me and didn't have as many timing problems, it was usually me fucking them up.
I had to play it back and man... you can sing to it to! that screwed me up good
Cliff's bass line made it more skynrd
That interviewer didn't have a clue what he was talking about
Go watch some episodes of "That Metal Show"
@@Wagoo Trunk only loves hair metal.
Its so obvious lol
If Lars new Lynyrd Skynyrd The Four Horseman will never be the same
Foking hilarious
"Dave fucking left the band!"
I just listened to the last show with Dave Mustaine and the “Sweet Home Alabama” riff is nowhere to be found in The Mechanjx. So something is not right here
Because they were going to add it in when they recorded the album. Its not in no life till leather version either
Still four horseman better version
Cant agree there but I'm biased as a gearhead
Still written by Mustaine
Why you all saying cliff hated dave
It's called dynamics...
I can tell that Lars has an ear for good songs because of that change the four horsemen is bad ass way better than mechanix
Mechanix is faster but not as technical as the four horsemen
And by the way Dave, cliff did not give a fuck when you got kicked out
He forgot to say um about 40 times…
I bet he still miss his day in metallica
Sweet home sanitarium.
He talks like its a terrible riff but I've always liked it
I think it's more so that he did it as a joke, and Lars took it seriously, so it's funny to him. I'm a much bigger Megadeth fan, but I do prefer Horsemen over Mechanix, and it has a lot to do with the breakdown in the middle. It breaks apart the song. Dave is a fantastic riff writer, but Lars is also has a fantastic ear for arrangements and the song needed to be slowed down and have the interlude. It makes it more epic. Either way, Dave wrote both songs for the most part, but what Metallica does in the middle is gold.
LIES!!!!!!
No pot is "terrible"!!!!
I love it when people troll Lars.
He stinks.
He’s no Lars Fredricksen.
Whomever did not already hear this the first time they heard the four horsemem have no musical memory or sense whatsoever
The other difference is one has good lyrics and one sounds like a 13 year old boy wrote it
