What a remarkable upright bass solo! Absolutely amazing - no punches nor fixes - live. Kudos Brian!

Flawless intonation. Hats off to the person "on the board"...the mix is perfect :-) Will definitely come out to see this trio, if they're ever in North Texas.

Dear Brian Bromberg, a well-known bass guitar player (I won’t say who) has referred on his Facebook page to your performance here as exemplary of fantastic tone, note choice and overall tunefulness. Certainly, watching/listening to your acoustic trio perform here is five minutes really well spent - very enjoyable! A discussion has ensued on the said page regarding achieving great tone. Do you think of your bass tone specifically, meaning that you define the tone your are looking for as a description in your head and then set out to produce it. Or is great tone, instead, symptomatic of your attention to other aspects of your playing, such as pitch accuracy and playing technique? Also, how aware are you of well-controlled room acoustics supporting or hampering achieving great bass tone? How do you think your tone differs when comping behind the other players and taking a solo? Are you conscious of your great tone at all, or is this just second nature = something achieved from many years of playing?

Hey David, great questions and happy to answer them, just give me a bit as they are not quick answers. Thanks! Brian

@@BrianBrombergBassI play bass and I really want to hear your answers here. Please remember to give us something. I’ve always been fascinated by the tone you get on the upright (it’s the tone I’m always working towards) - yourself and John Patitucci as well. How do you get the ‘ringing’ tone especially when you solo- Lower or higher register. I also hear it when you play a walking bass line it’s there and then pops out a bit more when you solo. I think it’s more left hand generated - but not totally- and a lighter approach on the right hand. Well that how I get close to it.

That's the way a bass should be in the mix. Nothing sounds better than a acoustic bass. Its worth more than that piano...
