    Quel swing , quelle musicalité , quelle rigueur dans le tempo, quel sens de l'impro....quel musicien, un big band à lui tout seul . Depuis le Live at Bradley's (I & II) je n'avais pas entendu aussi beau avec ce sens swing qui lui est propre. Bravo Kenny Barron, un pianiste exceptionnel !

    There are many great jazz pianists, but for me, Barron is among the greatest because of the razor-sharp clarity of his lines, harmonic ideas, and their execution. It all seems so logical and exciting at the same time.

      I love Kenny very much, but I can't understand why he is considered downright "great". He always seemed to me a wonderful, bright mainstream musician. But his musical language is not as unique as Evans' or Jarrett's.

    • @jazzlrdx9944
      @jazzlrdx9944 Год назад +3

      @@Robert63675 I think that his greatness stems from the utter mastery of jazz traditions that he possesses. If one goes a bit deeper into his ideas, the seemingly simple or traditional ideas he plays actually show remarkable depth and innovation. While his language may not be as instantly recognizable as Evan’s or Jarrett he still shows such elegance and mastery over the jazz language that it is difficult not to grant him a spot as one of the jazz greats.

    • @markshorter76
      @markshorter76 Год назад +1

      @@Robert63675 Yes, you have a point. Barron is not as innovative as the ones you mention. The reason why I think he is among the "greats" - which is a rather loose category - is for the said reasons in the above. I would also add that his touch is very delicate and especially in his live recordings he can get pretty experimental. But this is of course ultimately a matter of personal preference.

      When you hear it, it's so effortless and pure and simple, it flows almost linearly. Then you try to play it and wonder how wasn't the complexity and nuance already evident in the first place. Truly marvelous player.

    おお、懐かしい日本公演だ。当時これがFMで流れたとき、カセット・テープにダビングしたものです。今回その時の演奏と比べてみましたが、You Tubeの方が相当音がいいです。音もいいですが、映像まで見られるとは! すぐさまダウンロード。この名曲のお手本のようなスイング溢れる演奏。本当に素晴らしい。リズム隊も(地味ですが)最高です。

      I agree. Hart's lyrics were witty and urbane. Hammerstein wasted Rodgers' talents with saccharine and sappy fluff.

    Had a change meeting with Kenny Baron on a Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn walking with a friend...we both were. No need for selfie, it was his time off stage. I respected that. Thanked him for his music and kept it moving. Certain neighborhoods in Brooklyn are like this, you just never know who you'll cross paths with...
