The amount of practise Emmet must’ve done on his locked hands and his spicy chord voicing is insane. It’s so good at such a quick tempo. Argh I love it, it makes me sick!
starting at 1:23, the bass player, Philip Norris, starts a vamp with the root note and you can literally see on the projection screen Emmet stopping himself from finishing the line to go along with the vamp. Little "telepathic" interactions like that is what makes jazz so fun and lively. Kyle Poole immediately plays the same rhythm was Emmet's line... so on and so forth
You're right that these moments are magical (just like it happens in their After You've Gone with the drummer's rhythmic idea towards the end of the sax solo), but I don't think this is what happens here. I'd say this was planned in advance as a kind of turnaround, which is quite common in order to close the melody exposition. Glad to see everyone listens so carefully though!
Emmett’s playing has completely reinvigorated my love for Jazz. I feel like he’s brought us back from the beginning to the present day and incorporated everything that matters bravo Emmett
Same here. I’ve played it behind horn players, but decided it’s time to commit to memory. Also memorizing the contrafact, Fried Bananas. Two for the price of one(sort of)😉
Despite breakneck tempo, the cohesion, tuneful improvisation, harmony, expression, all too divinely inspired dear 'Emmet Cohen trio'. I can only pray for you ! Thanks & God bless.
It's like listening to Beethoven piano sonatas - a million musical ideas, thrown away as if they are nothing, bubbling over with joy and inventiveness. Stonking
More than technically excellent;the solo swings, sings, and takes the listener on a joy ride! Jazz as it should be...not simply amazing, but a joyful experience for the audience! Yay.Jazz lives in good hands!
Invites listener in without a passport! You don't have to "understand" Jazz,or know all the chord changes to enjoy it. I continue to smile knowing that the future of jazz piano has not ended up in the "intellectuals only" part of the jazz world!
I love this version very much - but I don't get, what they are doing... Obviously it's in F - did they put an Interlude between the chorusses? 4 measures at the beginning, 4 in between and 8 measures at the end on C7??? And at the end they play one Chorus 1/2 step up and the next one 1/2 down again? Is this right?? I somehow always get lost and somehow get in again 😩... Can anybody with better ears help me out?? Thanks everybody!
yes ur right about the modulation but they aren’t playing the changes haha i’m not really sure about the form myself because they played 24 of the key change and then 16 of the regular sooo the form is kind of wonky little bit. I’m not sure about that.
The only young cat on the piano I listen to often. You swinging and inserting the Blues very well without tricks. You don't view the Blues a scale nor bombard with lots of notes that don't relate to other forms meaningless to the Black created originally called Jass.

You know the deal, hat's off to hard work and dedication.

The vamp and hits are from Monty's version!
it's a pretty classic sound, and they'd probably done/planned it in rehearsal
When everything is cooking it's just far beyond fun.
Wow! That intro really reminds me of how Bud Powell would pull and stretch at the different parts of this tune.
You guys are illegal😢🔥🎹🥁🎸
Subconscious levitation going on here. The world got a little bit lighter. Many thanks.
Emmet Cohen The Best 🎼🎼

Every moment is beautiful, thank you very much for your talent and energy!
Been learning this tune recently, and now my favourite current jazz pianist releases an arrangement for it - a lovely surprise!

And here✌️
Emmet is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Always refreshing and travelling at light speed. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic playing, Emmet Cohen Trio! The people of Warsaw that visited this consert must be happy.

Wonderful “It Could Happen to You” so joyously played by the Trio. Didn’t want the song end. Bravo!
Lively, swinging, original .. always amazed at the genius of Emmet’s improvisation 🎹😊🎶
Tasty licks. Real cooking. A great tune with wonderful lyrics. Plus a superb practitioner of the art of jazz improvisation.

yea they’re subbing out the last 4 bars of the form with the vamp and adding 4 on the top before playing from the top
yes ur right about the modulation but they aren’t playing the changes haha i’m not really sure about the form myself because they played 24 of the key change and then 16 of the regular sooo the form is kind of wonky little bit. I’m not sure about that.

What’s the intro they’re quoting at 3:50?
It's Milestones, which is also quoted in the Monty Alexander version of the song that they're playing
Best of his generation. Inexhaustible invention.

I hear a Monty Alexander influence here, which is always a good thing
