  • Caleb Williams has risen to the top of college football, and he’s already one of the best prospects I’ve ever scouted. Williams has a Heisman trophy under his belt after just his first full season, and when looking at him through an NFL lens, he’s going to tear up the league. He has rare traits that will immediately translate to produce big time numbers at the next level, so the questions raised: what are those traits? And why is he such a special prospect? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze USC Trojan’s Quarterback Caleb Williams.

I remember the day Rattler got pulled for Williams. I wasn’t watching the game, but I saw most sports networks picking the story up, and I never understood it because I was a big Rattler guy.
Didn’t take me long to realize Williams was just on another level. The plays he made at Oklahoma were nice, but he’s just leapt to another level at USC. I see Caleb Williams as Patrick Mahomes, but if we never saw Patrick Mahomes referred to as a “project QB.” Can’t wait to see Williams in the league.

Young can extend plays and make throws on the run like Williams can but I have yet to see Williams run the quick read kind of play consistently where its 1 or 3 steps and fire with the absolute precision Young does. The way he breaks down defenses, adjusts on the fly, throws to a particular spot, throws off balance, throws on the run, and just runs the ball - period - he's the prototype for what you look for in the modern day QB. I hope he doesn't go to the Rams or Cardinals next season in the draft. As a Niner fan, I'd hate to have to play him twice a year for as long as he'd be with either team.

As a bears fan I am so incredibly torn. I personally think Fields could be an MVP level QB if he had a coach that called plays to his strengths and an offensive line that could give him a clear pocket for more than 1.7 seconds. His decision making can be inconsistent but when he’s on he’s GOOD. Possibly the fastest, most athletic QB of all time. I fear we’ll get rid of him, draft Caleb and suck while watch fields dominate elsewhere. I want MHJ, a better line and a SOLID defensive lineman/end. I genuinely believe they could win a Super Bowl with a good offense and the current defense plus a piece or two. Caleb looks great tho too. Just not nearly as fast or durable.

I think he’s one of the most gifted quarterbacks of the past 15 years, but the fact that he plays in a Lincoln Riley offense concerns me a bit. Mayfield’s a bust, Murray’s okay but often injured and has maturity issues, and Hurts only played in that offense for one year after playing in a pro style offense with Kiffin and Daboll. Outside of Hurts, Riley’s track record isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. I do think that Williams has a lot of intangibles that cover up the flaws in Riley’s system, but it’s something to note.

You don’t “iron out the kinks” in college. That’s something you do in the NFL as it’s an entirely different game. It’s hard to say a guy will be good just because he dominates in college. Seen this movie to many times.
That being said I am a fan of the guy and want to see him succeed at the next level but that story is yet to be written and I think that’s hard for most football fans to understand.
Imagine the best defensive lineman you’ve ever played against in your entire career, every week and there are 4 of them. The best corner you ever played, on both sides, every week. The smartest and most unhumanly athletic linebackers and safeties, every single week. And they all have film on you and work ways to expose the few things you’re not good at and force you to play their game, yet you have to elevate your game and play chess to win, regardless of your physical talents. That’s the NFL.
No one can watch a guy play in college and know what he’s gonna be in the NFL. We have to wait and see him play in the NFL and give him opportunity to evolve to really know if he’s going to be good.

Maye is good, but not Caleb good. Williams has the potential to change the balance of power in a given division on Day 1. True Joe Burrow-style impact on Day 1. Maye should be good. Don't get me wrong, Drake Maye has some GREAT arm talent. But Caleb Williams has the best arm talent of the last half decade, AND has a polished game inside and outside the pocket, AND runs a 4.6. Plus, anyone who can process Lincoln Riley's offense is clearly geared to learn an NFL offense. Even Baker's strength is understanding complex concepts from playbook to field. He just doesn't have the arm to convert. Williams does.
Think Kyler, but taller and without being saddled with one of the worst NFL coaches in recent memory.

Amazing talent but I have some reservations. I know its the scheme that asks him to extend plays while guys get open, but you cant ask a qb to do that regularly in the NFL. if youre holding the ball for 3 seconds or more in the NFL, you're gonna get hit. I need to see more quick timing precision plays that are common in the NFL. Bryce Young can do both with unbelievable precision which is why I consider him the better prospect right now. We'll see where Williams is at a year from now.

Did u not watch the video? He extends time in the pocket... and then makes quick reads. Also his footwork is significantly better than Bryce's and his frame is bigger as well. Bryce does process better but they're both incredibly accurate. There would be no doubt that Williams would be QB1 this draft

Arm strength has a lot to do with arm talent, but it's not everything. Arm strength is your ability to make the right throw in the right situation with the right velocity. If you're trying to loft a soft crosser over the linebacker, if you only have arm strength, you're gonna throw it into the third deck

He will have to put himself into harms way too often. He needs to go to a team with a quarterback guru coach. Then he could possibly play more like a traditional quarterback and use his legs when he needs to and not every other play.
