Northwest Airlines Flight 85 was a flight from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to Narita International Airport that experienced a lower rudder hardover event on October 9, 2002 when the flight was in proximity to Anchorage, Alaska. - Игры
I was expecting “just before the aircraft stopped completely, it blew up in a fireball killing everyone”.
I said that out loud. I watch many of his vids. And it’s 90% crashes . When it landed safely I said . “Whatch it just explode for no reason .
Yea , Nothing Surprises Me Anymore on These Vids
Same
Lol
I sweat bullets during every one of your videos but just can't stop watching them
To mattimus13: Are you a pilot?
@@lawrencemiller3829 pilots don't sweat
mattimus13 same
Dude...me too.
Same here. I just imagine myself as a passenger shitting myself
I wasn't sure how this was going to end . Thanks to the tremendous focus and teamwork on the flight deck 404 souls walked away . So glad !
And zero injuries! No wonder they were awarded. Well deserved. My only wonder is if Honolulu was closer than Anchorage.
I was praying throughout the video....
Having 2 rudders saved the flight, plus the skilled piloting by a well trained flight crew. That kind of pressure, and they carried it off like true professionals. An excellent job all round.
So glad to see a happy ending this time. Thanks to the pilots.
Yea I’d like to get a happy ending from you, babe
@@lombremic4840 Fucking C R I N G E
Marla, you`re a dumbo but i will jump on your skinny ass anytime.Bark!
Big difference when you have a crew that stay cool and don't just start powering levers and stressing out the plane more. Great job with a real warm and fuzzy ending!
The pilots should of received more of a reward or recognition than they did. They were never trained for a situation like this and jammed or damaged rudder is deadly. I mean, they had two, but still. They did a hell of a job.
I would put this crew on my Christmas card list for sure. Amazing job illustrating how hard these guys work, and the knowledge required, to avert disaster.
I don't know why, but this video made me so anxious watching it...because I didn't know the ending and the Captian did everything right. Most pilots would let ATC push them around. THANKS for another great video.
Ah request denied, Captain says did I not say this is an emergency you dip dog.
Anchorage Control: Heck no, you can't come down to FL14, you are going to disrupt all of our little puddle jumpers trying to get around Alaska, eh!!
99% of 'puddle jumpers' are at or below 12,500, not at or above 14,000. In the U.S., there is no FL140. Standard pressure altitudes normally begin at 18,000' or above. I live about 3 miles from the Cook Inlet and have over 28,000 hours flying time. I have never thought of the Cook Inlet as being busy airspace. Quite the opposite. I suspect that something was misinterpreted for that statement to be included in this video.
@@daveriley6310 thanks for the info
@@senorpepper3405 De nada, señor.
On the edge of my seat as usual!
Sorry Mr. ATC, but during an emergency you can't say "no" to the emergency aircraft. They tell you what they need, and your job is to make sure they get it whether it's convenient for you or not.
I'm thinking it was more of a wait than a no so that they could clear out other aircrafts at that altitude.
Polly Pockets that’s what I’m thinking to. Need to sterilize the airspace and then descend the emergency aircraft
@@pollypockets508 It was and he is overreacting
They had hours to clear out traffic at that altitude. The emergency had been relayed through the other NWO flight, and they wait until the flight is approaching Anchorage to clear out the traffic?
I bet the captain was thinking when the ATC denied their request "Are you kidding? Just get all the non-emergency aircraft out of our way!! That is part of your job,,..
the pilots did an absolutely excellent job maintaining a cool head and a calm demeaner while still putting (literally) all of their energy into safely landing a plane with 404 souls on board.
The pilots where quite lucky to have only have the lower rudder break and the passengers where lucky that they had such professional crew.
If either both rudders had a hardover or the crew wasn't well trained, NWA85 would've been lost to the Pacific ocean.
Round of applause to the crew.
Heroic flying
It’s so cool to be in that piece of Aviation history as the first 744 and the first to ever encounter that type of issue in Atlanta, I’m glad you included that!
my dad was a Capt for Delta.
pilots are a unique and rare breed.
I have always had the utmost respect for them. All the responsibility and always cool under pressure.
Just curious, does that coolness extend to non-aviation pressure too?
I love it when they survive. I knew a couple of Pilots in my day they are a special breed. Their efforts were the difference between life and death.
You have an amazing talent for telling these stories. Thanks
One of the great things about this site is the explanations of the events..making it easier to understand what’s happening..and also giving a greater appreciation of the incredible crews...
Thank God...great job by skilled pilots! I remember being on a flight that was so turbulent that everyone was terrified. After a very hard landing in a bad storm I never heard a greater cheer for those in the cockpit than what came from us!
I love how you don't spoil the outcome in the description or the video. The suspense is thrilling, I just have to fight not to look it up before the video ends!
I loved seeing those beautiful NWA 747's flying over my house close to Minneapolis. What an ultra-professional crew.
An excellent video. VERY beneficial that they had two crews to bounce ideas off one another.
It's a flight simulator, with hardly any real footage ever mixed in, and it is easily the most addictive youtube channel there is. I cannot stop watching.
Happy ending for all. Even the plane itself gets put out to pasture in the end. Great video.
Wow! So glad this ended well! Those passengers were blessed to have TWO sets of skilled pilots to land them safely.
Took this same flight many times from 1999 to 2002. On one trip, someone was smoking in the bathroom and the alarm went off. They panicked and threw the cigarette into the bathroom trash and started a fire. The cabin crew alerted the cockpit "We have smoke in the cabin!" They had to go behind our seat to get the fire extinguisher. I remember looking at the window thinking there is no way we're going to land (I know that sounds crazy, but I wanted to live!) - we were already past Alaska - and that no one will ever figure out what happened. The crew did a great job and saved our necks. After things calmed down, the flight attendant told us that you only have one minute to put out a fire before it's too late.
They do say that smoking can be deadly.
Finally a happy ending. The pilots are hero's. I hope passengers gave them all flowers forever. I would have.
I'm so glad they survived. Great pilots!
So lovely when everyone survives
As it came out later I had about 15 happiest minutes in my life. I clicked on video I didn't know what it will be about, but soon realized that 404 people will be off the life. I watched everything precisely, sometimes rewinding to imagine details (although I am not a pilot). And "BANG"- worst thing was one night in Anchorage.
Really- THANK GOD!
Excellent teamwork and stragegic planning. Bravo to the entire crew and the airline pilot on he ground as well as all ground support. Group intellectual solution finding really paid off here. Grace under pressure and well thought out scientific reasoning and execution.
Glad everyone landed safely..Thank you for sharing...
I've never been on a double decker plane like this. I would like to be on the top deck. But on a smooth flight and no accidents!
Very professional and well-composed pilots. Great job, if I met them I’d just give them a handshake and say thanks.
Nice to see a happy ending. Not every emergency results in a crash. Kudos to that crew for their skill.
Thank God this was a happy ending!.
I'm impressed with not only the aircraft BOEING built I'm even MORE impressed with the airmanship of the crew. Hat's off to all. Happy Landings always.
So you're impressed with the Aircraft that almost killed 404 people?!?!
Really outstanding graphics, essentially photo realistic. It even displayed the lower rudder displaced to the left and the inboard high-speed ailerons differentially displaced to bank right to counter the left yaw.
i been watching a bunch of your vids today, already seen most of the stories on docus but im enjoying them, thanks
It's even scarier with the big 747's cause of more casualties, and the overall size of the beast!
Boeing sold Northwest Airlines a damaged aircraft. No wonder why they start buying Airbus planes
Great job to the crew! I am so pleased to see a happy video after binge-watching a bunch of these.
Incredible video once again, such an intense situation to have occurred. Pilots did a fantastic job with a situation that they had not been trained for.
They did it right
I can only imagine the wails and sighs of relief when the plane stopped.
Man, I'm glad to see a "safe landing" video to offset all the disasters.
Major kudos to the crew. They were incredible!! They totally deserved their award!!!
Damn, those pilots were heroes.
Well put together. Thank you. Glad everyone was safe
8:42 - oh you mean he alerted the passengers to prepare for a RyanAir landing.
Southwest landing.
What kind of landing would that be?
i keep hearing about ryan air on these. is that like the southwest airlines of Europe? and if so, I've probably flown southwest at least 10 times and never had a bad experience.
señor pepper nonono Southwest is alright.. Ryan Air is a dirty budget airline more like Spirit in the US. They are mainly a meme because every landing they make breaks ur back and everything on their plane including water costs money.
They land so hard because their schedule is packed so tight that going around is unacceptable and its better for them to get on the ground as fast as possible. Also their pilots are typically all new to commercial flying.
Amazing work with these recreations! thanks so much!!
I never look for the outcome before watching these videos and always assume the worst so I was so sad to see that it was the first ever 747-400 that was involved. Awesome that the pilots were able to land in that situation and with it being so far away from the nearest airport.
I worked on this bird. It was definitely put through the wringer as part of the Flight Test program as are all new type models or new aircraft.
@TAX COW FARTS ..... i know, right.?!?!?!?
I keep up with 747 incidents and accidents. Absolutely can’t believe I didn’t know about this one. Interesting theory about it being fatigued due to it being tested a lot as it was first-400. But, not convinced as it didn’t happen again for a few years after innumerable hours and cycles on the entire fleet of 400’s around the world.
Wow you could feel the tension building in this one!
Got to say: that’s a very nice looking plane. Love that Red!! 😍
X Pilot produces incredible content! I feel like I’m on the plane every time I watch a video. Thank you for all your hard work. I rarely to subscribe to any channels but you deserve it.
I really liked having a video where everyone DIDNT die lol. I love your videos
Your work is admirable Sir. I learn things.....many thanx
In 20003, the crew of Flight 85 received the Airline Polots Association Superior Airmanship award; the ATC who told the pilot "No" was subsequently fired and now flips burgers at the fast-food joint down the road.
New to your channel.. After watching these videos in other two 'popular' channels for more than 2 months...now I think X pilot is far more better than them because you adds some extra details which makes your videos far more interesting... Good job.. 😍😊
That was an excellent job under difficult circumstances.
These aren't pilots -- they're magicians...but I do NOT understand why the ATC would deny the captain ANYTHING under emergency conditions. Anyone?
ATC cannot deny an emergency aircraft. The pilot tells him what he is planning, ATC advises the pilot of any pertinent information and then gets other traffic out of the way. A pilot with an emergency owns the sky. Even if a runway is closed, ATC can only advise that it is closed and give reasons why that might not be a suitable plan.
@@daveriley6310 Thanks.
Depends. While the ATC definitely knew the plane was inbound that was quite odd that he would simply deny the reason without telling the aircraft that he could expect it once traffic was clear or whatever was stopping him from doing it at that moment of time. The emergency gets all the priority but if the action requested is one that may result in a collision, they cant approve it.
It's amazing how you make these videos and so realistic,so congratulations
Thank you for posting
These are amazing videos. I have a huge respect for the airline industry and pilots as a result, and yet...I’m now scared to death to fly!
I have a 4 hour flight next week... why am I watching these??
Did it went well? I need to know
Me too! Can’t stop watching
Ren Deaust Maybe he can't reply and let you know any more.
Geoh7777 That's what I'm afraid of holy shit.
You’ll probably be fine. Out of all the flights every, crashes are rare. Statistically speaking, you’re more likely to get into a bad car crash, then be in a plane crash.
A wonderful ending! No one hurt and a lovely fitting end to the first 747! Thanks so much for doing this story. I like your videos because you show when aircraft does do things, it looks like a more realistic happenings! Yeah my little airplane! ( as I call all airplanes). Maybe I will see you in Georgia :)
These videos will make you respect a pilot, that’s for sure
Excellent as usual. AND the cowboy rides away. Love it!
imagine you are a pilot and youre flying a 747-400 that's first delivered to NWA, you too are in an emergency landing... Man i can't imagine the stress through these tough situations. Respect for the pilots!
Glad to hear of a safe landing with no injuries!
You are the king of these plane disaster videos. Love you!
3rdcoastnyucka I do hope a plane you're on gets into difficulty .
X Pilot I watched all these crashes on TV and now have a chance to watch them again thanks a lot ✈️✈️🛫🛬🚀.
How is that possible without any narrator? It's not! These force you to stare at a screen every second of every video, it's bullshit!
You know, I really like these videos where the plane doesn't crash and all ends well.
I was on the edge of my seat on this
Great save,your videos always deliver.thanks.....
These videos are intense and very well done! Sub'd.
Excellent, as always
Cool videos, just found out about this channel and will probably be staying for a while. Keep up the good work!
These videos are addictive ,, and I fly pretty often 😬
Beautiful crm and piloting skills!!!!
Hell yeah. I'm glad they made it. These are some bad ass pilots.
What a great crew and what a magnificent plane to recover from that near catastrophe.
Yay! I appreciate successful landings thank you!
Thank you for the great video.
A truly exemplary crew + Northwest team who worked fabulous + foresighted + professional + communicative + level-headed together and became heroes. A role model for every airline.
Dear ATC controller, please feel ashamed of not giving the aircraft clearance to change altitude during an emergancy landing, which was very unprofessional. An aircraft in an emergency situation always has right of way / pre-flight in the air.
one of my favorite channels on youtube
Of All the Places to Have Fight Problems , 32,000ft , Over the Bering Sea , 2 hrs from Alaska , Good Piloting From All of the Fight Crew Saved Themselves and the 386 , Good Ending . . .
Good thing they had backup pilots too!
I watch these without knowing the ending. When everyone survives Im so relieved
I knew it was to be a happy ending. No US airlines JET has had a fatal accident onboard since Fall 2001 through the lone fatality on Southwest Airlines in 2018.
Fine work by you and the pilots
wow they were extremely lucky, this could have easily been a most deadly disaster if the rudder had come off...not very reassuring that the NTSB never managed to find the cause of this.
Handled extremely well by the pilots.
Actually the NTSB did find the cause: "fatigue fracture of the lower rudder power control module manifold"
wow. super experienced and disciplined pilots.
Great team work and a happy ending for 404 souls.. Great video
"Another happy landing"!
The Superior Airmanship Award should come with a $10,000,000 cheque. These guys deserve it.
I just knew as soon as they got close to the runway BOOOOOMMMM
Buttttttt thank GOD they had a safe and successful landing ❤
You are the king THIS IS WHY I SUB :D
hi there, love ur vids m8 as always another dashing video keep it up!
ay dawg ur first
Is there a CVR of Captain Hanson reminding ATC of their duty to an emergency aircraft?
how bout its duty to other lives at stake?
