- Kuwait has no animal shelter, leading to a widespread issue of cats being dumped outdoors. Individual rescuers are stepping in to help these cats, who are often Persian, Scottish fold, British shorthair, and Arabian mau, and typically seeking homes for them abroad. Thank you Laila (@rescueforwinston) and Mona (@mcclq8) for sharing your stories, and for all you do to help cats.
Mona should have a donation website. Bless her and Laila heart’s. Thank you to you as well!😘❤️
Agreed. Both are very kind souls and the cats are very lucky to have them.
Thank you so much, Layla and Mona, from the bottom of my heart for saving the lives of so many of these furry baby darling kittens and cute darling adult cats. May God continue to blessvand protect you for the most noble work that you both are doing for these darling furry angels. So sad to know know that people just dump their cats and kittens at a different environment just because they have decided not to keep them any more. I hope and pray that God in his Divine Wisdom will bring about a change in the attitudes of these kinds of people.
If you go look at their instagram which is in the description box there is a way to donate

We lived in Kuwait and brought home two little street cats to the US when our assignment in Kuwait was over. We love our Kuwaiti Arabian maus!
They seem like wonderful cats. As a long-time feline rescue volunteer with chronic health problems, I would love one. I need an affectionate baby to love when I’m stuck in bed. My Burmese just passed away at 19…he was the cat I was closest to in life. A constant cuddle companion! I’ve had two random bred cats just like that, though. I adopted them as seniors, so I didn’t know them as long but they bonded very closely with me. Both looked like they had British Shorthair in them. Big bones…big teddy bears! I guess I felt closest to the Burmese because he followed me to every room, and advocated for my needs with my carer, when I was ill. He would not eat until I was fed.
Tq for your kindness 🇲🇾♥️

I'm in Bahrain right now and have 4 that I'm taking back with me for sure when it's time to go back to the states. Arabian Maus are great cats!

Isn't Kuwait a rich country?
people are rich but not all of their mindset towards the environment & preserving other living organisms. That's why Kuwait needs more people like laila.
I live in Kuwait .. I and my Aunty also feed stray cats for so many years now as a part of our daily routine.. we really love all the fur babies. Last year I rescued a abandoned puppy from a roadside and now he is in India having a great happy life with my other dogs n family 🥰

If youre feeding them youre helping the street cat population get bigger and bigger. Is that your goal?
WELCOME TO KUWAIT! I recently took in a kitten from the streets and I could easily see that she was dumped as a kitten bc someone tried to breed their cat and was unable to care for her. I took her to the vet she's clean and healthy, and I am in the process of getting her all her vaccines. She has long fur and is pure white, probably wasn't a street cat for too long she was 5 months old. I heard some rescue organizations here are trying the TNR strategy I hope it works
Tnr?? Trap nuture. Release???
I just can’t understand why anyone would buy a cat from a breeder when there are so many beautiful pure bred cats that need to be rescued now. Thank you for driving awareness of this important cause 😽
Same.
they think that the ones from the breeder are healthier or cleaner in some way, unaware of the reality that all pets need consistent veterinary care
I got my cat from a drain at the station thought it was a rat, luckiest cat, yet she bites me a lot. My first black cat.
One thing I never get either, especially after I found a kitten on the street (which now has a loving home). I think a good start would be a breeding ban, especially backyard breeders and breeding mills.
breeders and purebred cats aren't the problem of overpopulation. It is all the alley cats, that owners refuse to spay or neuter and then let them roam the streets, or just dump them in the streets per this video. Look at ALL these cats---99% random bred, not purebred. The Arabian Mau breed she talks about, not purebreds either. A purebred is a cat that you KNOW several generations of it's ancestry. Boy there are a lot of eye infections in all those cat 😢 I really liked that smoke/tabby young male cat and the one she pointed out as an Arabian Mau---they looked fairly healthy.
The Kitten Lady of California meets the Cat Lady of Kuwait! That shelter is wonderful; I know the cats are all happy to be there! Thanks for sharing!
I have a Kuwaiti kitty. He's a purebred Scottish Fold, brought to the US by the South Texas Persian Rescue, operating out of San Antonio, Texas (they've Adlai brought over lots of mixed kitties from there). He is the sweetest, most loving cat I have ever met. He took a long time to understand what laps were, but now he never wants to get out of them. My life wouldn't be the same without him, and I can't recommend these sweet children enough.
Why rescue cats from other countries? Surely it makes more sense to recuse cats in your state/town/country? :/
I can't recommend Scottish folds at all, it's not fair on them with the arthritis
@@jenesisjones6706 if there is an abundance of cats in one place, and not many in another, it makes sense to rescue from the place with the abundance of cats to relieve some stress off of where that cat lives. if I lived in Georgia and there aren’t many stray cats in my area, I may rescue from somewhere overloaded with cats.

We’re starting to have a similar situation here in Saudi Arabia. Many people adopted cats during the pandemic due to boredom and not being able to go out, and now that life is back to normal they’re claiming they’re way too busy to take care of them so they throw them out.
My mom and I try bringing food to those cats especially in our neighborhood, there were usually 3-5 cats but these last few weeks the numbers are increasing and I think we see over 12 cats just in our neighborhood. Really heartbreaking to see
not just during the pandemic. I've seen it happen way before that. People see it in western movies, social media etc so they want pets. Just not the responsibility.

This is so heartbreaking. I cannot imagine dumping my furbabies somewhere, for any reason. When I adopted my two, it was a commitment I made for life - no matter what. I get that times can be hard, but in my opinion, that’s no excuse to not at least find a good home, or just don’t get a pet at all if you know your situation could become precarious in the future unless you aren’t all in. It’s that important.
I’m glad these ladies are doing what they can to help.
My three fluffballs are mine forever.
R.I.P Izzy & Twotone
Unfortunately, these cats are mostly dumped when people travel during the summer...nobody can find anyone to take care of the cats and it is very hard to bring cats with you on the plane (it is too hot during the summer for cats to travel unless it is in the cabin which very few airlines allow). So, most people either put the cats in a cat hotel which costs about 30 USD per day or they have to sell them or release them outside. It is a very sad situation.
I too can never do to another animal, such a horrible think😫.
I have a cat which I take care just like My own child.
Thoughtless people dump their cats, especially when moving, just as frequently in the USA, and creating the same type of problems.
That’s most of humanity .
I live in Florida. We also have lots of free-roaming cats. Twelve years ago, I was feeding 57 colony cats. Today that number is down to 18---a 68% decrease. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but it is essential to fix them. My motto is: First fix, then feed.
Those man eating iguanas will help you lol
That is a great moto and thanks for helping!
Lol maybe they just stopped coming back for food after you snipped their genitals. Did you consider attributing the decrease to that?
You mean castrate them..imagine you as a person having to undergo that without your consent. I have seen some of the ill effects cats undergo after castration
Thank you for helping the cats!
If I lived in Kuwait, I'm pretty sure I'd be a cat hoarder. Seeing so many of them on the street, especially the ones that were abandoned, breaks my heart. I hope more Kuwaitis will open their hearts and homes to these beautiful kitties ❤️
Its ppl like you who go to kuwait and hoard cats and then dump or abandon them when you leave. How shameful.
We are!
Well they are a lot of people helps cats
They simply need to neuter them to keep the population down if they don’t want to take them in. None of those cats will leave more than a few years due to diseases and poor health since are known to inbreed.
Laila and Mona you guys are amazing! Keep up the pawsome job!
It's really sad that people abandon their pets like this.....

Thank you so much for using your platform to bring awareness about this especially at other countries. This happens so much abroad as well. In Sudan (and other countries) there’s so many stray cats and dogs. Growing up in America I know about animal shelters, vet care, spaying, neutering & etc but in Sudan (and other places) it’s not known. I have cousins in Sudan who rescues cats & care for them which is great but it’s so many to handle. There needs to be more animal rescuers, adopters & fosters around the world. This is why I continue to foster animals in need.
Maybe you should tell your Americans not to abandon and discard their pets like that on their way back.
In America, including manhattan, there so many street cats (and rats) especially around garbages.
Such a rich country but no aninal shelter.. you can judge a society by how they treat the most vulnerable. Bless those ladies!
There are plenty of animal shelters in Kuwait. Unfortunately, they’re almost always full and can’t take in anymore cats
It is amazing how friendly those street cats are .. 🙂

We have the same issue in saudi arabia even with cat rescue organizations, it is not enough to make impact, when you walk in the streets, you will find alots of street cats looking for food, or shelter. I hope gulf countries get togother to make an effort. They deserve to live just like us.
Neutering/sterilizing cats is the only thing that is going to solve the problem
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Do these awesome ladies have a NEUTERING programme going at all? Without that it's hopeless. No matter how many they send overseas, the birthrate will obviously increase and continue.
I saw some ear tips missing, so i think so
Laila (the first lady interviewed) commented in reply to a similar question. She and other rescuers try to neuter as many cats as they can, but it's difficult to keep up because every day people are dumping cats.
The ones there are too few compared to the number of cats. They do their best, but it's like swimming against the tide.
Thanks for bringing awareness to this. I noticed only a small handful had ear tips, but there was no mention in this video anything about spay and neuter efforts. Can you say more about if they are doing that and what are the private veterinarians charging for this? Did the women with the rented space have her cats all fixed?
She probably did. All of the cat rescuers that I know here in Kuwait do neuter the cats that they rescue
i am sure she had them fixed, if she had them also vaccinated and operated on
Laila here! A few rescuers including myself tried to spay and neuter as many cats as possible in the first location but because they get dumped everyday it was tough to keep up but we still continue to TNR in other locations too!
@@DarkWorldQ8 I do! Rescuers do not allow breeding, or the spread of diseases. That is animal hoarding.

I am so so glad to see you teaming up with Laila and using your platform to spread awareness about this! I've followed her on instagram for years and the work she and others in Kuwait do is harrowing. The situation is so overwhelming I can't imagine doing what they do. We adopted one of our cats from a rescue named Bridges from Kuwait; I'm glad to have helped take one of these poor babies off of the street 🥺
In Saudi Arabia we have the same problem, I try to educate everyone on how important it is to Spay/Neuter and care for your fur baby. They are helpless souls that needs our love. Shout out to all the great rescuers out there!!
If the Arabian Mau is anything like an Abyssinian, they are the sweetest, most devoted cats. These rescuers are amazing and I hope they're able to provide education to help people understand that dumping a house cat on the street can be a death sentence because they don't have the survival skills of a cat born on the street. 🐾🐾 Thank you for sharing your experiences Hannah.
Of all the kitties we saw in this video, I thought they were some of the cutest.
I love the white cats with different color eyes, too.
Like Christina Duval we lived in Amman for several years, we've since move homed to Australia, we brought 6 street cats back with us to Australia. They are the most amazing cats ours are all Arabian Maus - fancy name street cats. We desexed another 20, took sick street cats to the vets and wiped the puss from dozens of kittens eyes (calisi virus) to prevent blindness. They are amazing cats and the misleading information about street cats being dangerous is sad, many cats are dumped pets and even the born street cats just wants food, a warm dry place to sleep and and in the occasional case a scratch The situation is overwhelming, fantastic organizations (with no funding!) like Tabbani Jordan, The Basboos Project and Al Rahmeh for Animals try to help but sadly there are just so many. Disappointingly the locals are indifferent. We've been gone 2 years and there is not a day i don't think on how i can do something to help the problem.

It amazes me that these cats are worth 100s even 1000s of dollars in the US. But there just abandoned there.
Literally brakes my heart 💔. I wish I could adopt them all , they seems so cool each and everyone of them
I have always felt this way! In the US, I used to teach cat care classes to rural and urban communities, through 4-H. We’d hold free cat shows to reward good care and socialization of random bred cats, after the education series. I’ve seen kids and parents grow so much in their relationships with animals! I also do feline rescue. People dump cats near farms and in cities, thinking they’ll find shelter and a food source. They live painfully, and die horribly. Statistics in the 2000s said if we each adopted 3 cats, we would solve the problem. I know it’s not an opinion for everyone but, if it is, please adopt! ❤️🩹

I am glad that the cats are sent overseas to loving forever homes. ❤ I saw you using eye cream for infected eyes. Thank you to the animal rescuers who are choosing to make impactful changes.
Sending dumped cats overseas to be adopted is not an impactful change. It is shifting the burden onto other countries (in this instance, America), where additional animals (cats in this instance) must be euthanized because the American didn’t adopt a cat from the shelter down the road, but from Kuwait instead!
p.s. I know this sounds mean, and I am not intending that. It’s just that we must all wake up and realize that globalization does not solve anything, it just shifts the misery away from one country onto another, at the expense of the animals, and allows our leaders to remain unaccountable for helping solve pet overpopulation.

He's so friendly and loving but was in bad condition, had severe inflammation, and needed surgeries on his jaw. I'm so glad I found him. There are people who really want to help, but there aren't many resources available and the number of cats is overwhelming.
This just goes to show that because Kuwait is a wealthy nation doesn’t mean they have things figured out or that the Kuwait’s use common sense when it comes to properly caring for domesticated animals. Some male cats are visibly not neutered. That just means dumping your cat so it can produce more. These are obviously wealthy people who don’t care to think for themselves. This is an incredibly disturbing video.
Some people are so ignorant and uncaring to leave these poor kitties..
We hope, someday, people will leatn to spay/ neuter so that uncared for cats will be diminished...
We have so many house cats have been abandoned in the streets with no action by the government.
Its soo heart breaking when you see this and can only do very little to help.
I hope you spread the knowledge of these poor beautiful animals around the world so may be just may be people in charge could do something to safe them. Thank you very for coming and i hope this is only the beginning for a big hope❤❤❤❤
Thank you kitten lady to bring up this issue to the world stage. The problem is Kuwaiti people buying kittens and cats for their children to play. And thus getting abused my kids .
I live and rescue cats here in Kuwait . As an expat living here and caring for them where people doesn’t even support our work. We get scolded for helping and threaten us to put in bars.please raise the issue of closing the Friday pet market forever. Please more videos to raise awareness about animals situation in Kuwait.
Why would you be arrested for taking in stray cats? Is that illegal there?!
@@lotus_flower2001 In some of the Gulf states it's against the law to feed street cats or get veterinary care for them, although thankfully this is often not strictly enforced. I don't think there would be any law against rescuing or adoption.
@@kenmccormick8059 I can understand if it is against the law to feed street cats but why would it be against the law to get veterinary care for them? Lol, that sounds ridiculous.
@@ebynmatthews From some quick research I did, it appears to be the case in Dubai. It's very inhumane, but unfortunately some of the Gulf states have very harsh policies towards street cats and dogs. They are regarded as pests and in some places companies have been employed to trap and poison them.
These cats are dumped abd abandoned by the western expats when they leave the country. It's the spoilt brats of the expats who want the pet while in kuwait and then don't take them along on their way bk. Shame on these American/European expats
Rescuers must feel so helpless there. For every one TNR cat I saw, I saw twenty who hadn't been fixed. So hard!
Surprising to me that Kuwait has not implemented a program to protect the cats. I think after seeing this that catowners purchase a license and have them microchipped. They must have their registered cat spayed or neutered. If they can be traced back to their owners, they should be heftily fined for abandonment and abuse. I know for fact that people in various areas of the globe do not view animals
compassionately the way most of us do
I adopted 3 cats from Kuwait in 2003 while I was working there. I brought them back to the US once I returned home. 2 of them have passed but I still have one. Best cats 🐈 I have ever had.
Bangkok has a lot of street cats and dogs too, not quite as bad as this I don't think though. People do feed the cats and kittens and even adopt them sometimes, but there isn't much of a spay/neuter effort. There is one cat shelter that I know of, Paws Bangkok who is amazing. I wish I'd known about spay and neutering when I lived there, I don't know why it never occurred to me! Thank you for bringing awareness to this, I now totally understand much more about it. Xx
We all learn and grow in our efforts. The fact that you want to help is what’s important! ❤
t's really tragic when there is no spay/neuter activity taking place. Then the cats inbreed which does not make for healthy animals.
I was deployed there back in 2013 and I was surprised how many street cats were living at the beach in the rocks.
OMG this is horrible! And we think the cat problem is bad in this country! Bless those people who are helping! I don’t know how they do it! Thank you for this great video!
Well, you should see the situation in Egypt. It's a living hell for both cats and dogs
Not long ago when I was living in Kuwait I found a stray cat in very good condition which was obviously dumped. We tried to get someone to adopt it and I also tried to get my parents to let me adopt it but in the end all I could do was feed it some food and water every weekday. 😔
You remind me of my ex gf 😹
These poor babies. Brakes my heart. I wish I could help them all.
My house and yard looks like this on a daily basis. It started as one cat and at one point I had roughly 36 cats inside/outside my house in various stages of growth. I love my cats. Every single cat in this video I have had at one point regarding breed and color.
You are truly blessed having so many kitties as your companions, even if you have no more room indoors for another. Felines, big and small are my favourite animals!
God bless you 🙏.
This reminds me of the situation that I just adopted a cat through an agency here in Canada. The cats were rescued from Egypt. He was shaved down when I saw his pictures but since getting him and looking after him it is very obvious that he is some type of Persian/Himalayan mix. He’s absolutely beautiful and sweet (white and fluffy with cream points and crystal blue eyes). He’s so sweet and gentle, it’s hard to imagine that he was living on the streets of Egypt.
Hi, I'm American and have been living in Egypt for 17 years, and yes, so many cats in the streets in Egypt. Makes me sad. They don't believe in desexing, most Egyptians are afraid of cats, unlike the old days of Egypt where they were worshipped. Also, life is so hard here for common people that they say, "let's care about people first". They have no compassion for cats... at all. Sad to me. I always greet and talk to cats on the street
@@judemorales4U hi I m from Egypt and most of the cats dumped on the streets in Egypt are owned by French, British, American and other European countries and when these ppl leave they shamelessly dump/abandon/ discard their pets behind
@@muslimandchristiansexposin7386 You have yet to prove your assertion that westerners are doing almost all the dumping. That is just not true. I’m sure some westerners have, but the main problem, as in every country, is it’s own irresponsible citizens!
I will 100% be adopting one asap. I am wanting a cat and this is heartbreaking to see.
Even in Saudi Arabia, a lot of beautiful cats on the streets not only in Kuwait
This is heart breaking. Donation on the way!
If I had a billion dollars I'd give it to help all these meowers
