Heartbreaking. Such a little doll and his life is over before it really began because of a truck driver not paying attention to his driving.

I'm 67. Do you know how many YEARS I've heard various officials across the country say that they would "consider" adding seat belts to buses after a deadly crash!?!?!
May he rest in peace forever.

so far we have all of the information on the crash except the name of the truck driver and the company the truck belonged to, why.
Man this is absolutely heartbreaking
Seatbelts would be great but the reality is that the kids won’t wear them and you would have to have a monitors ever other seats to enforce it. As a former school bus driver children will be children and if one kid starts not wearing them ( here we go)and also if in the event of a fire or a high water rescue children trapped. It’s really a no win situation. You should see how many cars don’t even stop for the flashing light at the bus stops.
As an active bus driver I wouldn’t like to deal with kids and seatbelts. There will not be supervision on who’s wearing it, it’s something that could be used to hit another student and in an accident like this or worst, the little ones would not be able to release the belt if they’re under a panic attack. I agree it’s a no-win situation.

I do find it messed up that the other person who died is pretty much an afterthought not worth mentioning.

While everyone else seems to be showing compassion to the kid, you at least have my compassion as well.
As a teenager who uses ADA paratransit services to get to and from private autism school in Arizona, I have always been concerned about a bus crash happening, especially since my school is 5 minutes away from a public high school with 1700 students, so that causes a lot of traffic, and whenever I see a car passing in front of the bus, the first thoughts that run through my mind are that a crash is going to happen. Crashes are not very common in school buses and I'm pretty sure they're a lot less common with paratransit buses/vans, but knowing that a kid as young as 5 just died in a school bus crash makes me heartbroken. May Ulises fly high and rest in peace!

Seatbelts can be dangerous on a bus because the seatbelts don’t all ways come off and if a fire happens then they could die

School buses and regular buses don't have seatbelts at all never have had.
When they are issued a DL it should have a DWI and suspension already on record.

He is so little. I wouldn't have him in my car without, at minimum, a booster seat but apparently, a bus doesn't need any seatbelts, even when carrying pre k children.
Sorry, but kids that age need mini busses with seatbelts. Thy sure do not need field trips down expressways.

Why are safety measures taken only when something tragic happens. Seatbelts on a school bus should be a no-brainer.

Seat belts are not safe for school busses. In the case of a fire or accident where students need to escape quickly young children would likely have difficulty releasing the selt belt without assistance. Even transit city busses don't have seat belts. So incredibly sorry about this tragedy. 😢
